Dear Katherine, (and Nancy),

Thanks for your excellent Stanford Anthropology talk yesterday: "My Life as a Spy: Investigations in a Secret Police File" - https://anthropology.stanford.edu/events/colloquium/my-life-spy-investigations-secret-police-file - and great to meet you right before your talk. (I went to Reed from '79-85 and lived in Portland until '87, majoring in Religion, and to some degree in German too). What did you major in at Reed? (I just noticed in Reed's Iris directory that you majored in Anthropology in '70 - a fascinating time in Oregon, I'd think ... https://iris.reed.edu/directory/alum/130781).

I wanted to ask you both about CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare-centric wiki World University and School, which is like Wikipedia in ~300 languages with MIT OCW in its 5 languages, and planned in each of all 7,097 living languages, and my actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic project re your talk, but the opportunity didn't present itself, so I hope to ask you further about these when we meet again.

Here, by the way, is where you'll find the Romania World University and School - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States - as well as the Romanian language wiki subject for open teaching and learning - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages - planned in Romanian, when they begin.

Julian Dumitrascu in Transylvania / Romania is the named CEO of the WUaS Press / Co as well - https://twitter.com/IuliuDumitrascu/status/1062408823137320961 - and it would be great to talk further about the WUaS Press / Co in Romania and Europe too.

And do you happen to know Nancy Larson (O'Sullivan) - https://iris.reed.edu/directory/alum/121899 - who spent a year, I think, in Bucharest in the early 1980s? (She's a friend from Reed, and I went to Mike and Nancy's wedding at the Quaker Meeting in Portland).

And re your talk, here are two wiki subjects at WUaS, to which, for example, we might add your book -

https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Surveillance

https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Privacy

- to give you an idea about how WUaS works, as well. Check out how MIT OCW which students will be able to take for credit, eventually in all ~200 countries' languages online in group video, and eventually in a realistic virtual earth, to give you an idea of how WUaS works.

Is this you - https://twitter.com/kmverdery1?lang=en?

Am seeking a position in the Stanford Anthropology department, and one book ahead I'm planning to write will compare the STEM innovation ethos at Stanford with that of MIT from the '60s & '70s forward. Might I possibly please talk with you at some point about Stanford in the '70s re its alternative culture aspects especially? As a child of the '60s too (I was born in 1960) - which you introduced yourself as yesterday - I'm particularly interested in the '60s and '70s' in my Harbin ethnographic project, at Stanford, and with regard to its freedom-seeking movements as (counter-)cultural influences in so many ways, in my academic work especially.

Very nice to meet you and looking forward to connecting again at some point.

All the best, Scott

Hi, Scott and Katherine,

It’s nice to hear from you. I recently checked Katherine’s book out of the library, as recent political events have raised memories of living in Bucharest and fears for our democracy. I worked at the American School of Bucharest from December 1981 to June 1982, between my second and third years of Reed.

Katherine, if you are ever in San Diego, I’d love to take you out for dinner or coffee, and if you speak in San Diego I would love to hear your talk. I’d love for more people to know what’s at stake when we edge away from democracy, the rule of law and a commitment to civil rights.

All the best,
Nancy

Hi, Nancy and Katherine,

Thanks so much for your note, Nancy. And likewise, Katherine, if you are ever in the San Francisco Bay area again, I’d love to take you out for dinner or coffee, and if you speak at Berkeley or another university in the SF Bay Area, I would love to hear your talk. World University and Schools is planning to offer online Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, and M.D. degrees, as well as I.B. high school diplomas online, accrediting on MIT OCW - https://ocw.mit.edu/ - and MIT High School - https://ocw.mit.edu/about/media-coverage/press-releases/highlights/ and https://ocw.mit.edu/high-school/. Is the American School in Bucharest I.B. Nancy?

Concerned here too about democracy, social justice and human rights (see wiki subjects below with MIT OCW) in all ~200 countries and their official and main languages, and am thinking that WUaS will be able to hire the faculty online, hopefully Stanford and Reedie graduate students for example, to teach this as graduate student instructors, to begin.

Thank you again so much, Katherine, for your Stanford talk.

All the best,
Scott

Thanks, Claire, Pamela, Amanda, KayR, JohnM, Anita, and Non-theist Friends,

As a further leading in this f/Friendly conversation ...

I went into an independent Apple Mac Computer store yesterday in Berkeley to get a replacement electrical cord since mine has two holes in it which I had patched with electrical tape, and in talking with the person who worked there, she mentioned - in a Mac store - how computers still weren't very friendly (e.g. the file structure etc). I asked about whether she thought voice technologies would change this, but she thought that interacting more with people was the important thing re computing and the internet, and machines. She was encouraging folks, and me in our conversation, to cultivate the people side of life, vis-a-vis computers and machines. I appreciated her perspective (and even teach about inquiring about this social scientifically - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html - with a focus on the 1990s when computing was becoming widespread due much to the graphical user interface in browsers, re questions of alienation vs sociality, where, in a Castellian vein, many sociological studies were showing that sociality was increasing online, but in a very decentralized way - think the plethora of social media sites with email today, s well as the distributed information technologies of the internet.

So then I asked the lady, whom I was getting the power cord from, about whether face-to-face group video would bridge the people-machine questions she was addressing. (I also asked whether she felt the same about cars as about computers, re machines and people). And she said she hadn't been in group video before. But that she, working in a Mac store, had gone to meditation workshops in Berkeley on loving kindness (and peoples in the SF Bay Area in 2018 have their own relationships with questions of alienation re work, post the freedom-seeking movements of the 1960s/1970s and related envisioning of a better world / new society) with her partner (a man, she said explicitly), and thought with regards to this loving kindness workshop that people (i.e. people skills, soft skills?) re computing were what are important in life, again re the ubiquitous machines in our lives. In this day and age, who'd a thunk? :) I mentioned something about developing World University and School ( https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nontheist_Friends_(atheist_Quakers%3F) ), and how even re the workshop she had taken, that TEACHING loving kindness online - that is people skills - would be a possibility, and also thought to myself how Quakers have long somehow taught a related kind of friendliness, which they / we sometimes capitalize as Friendliness, and to which we NtFs perhaps add non-theistic thinking to (but different from a Buddhist practice of teaching loving kindness). (I think the owner of this store is both Asian and quite 'Berkeley,' and possibly attuned to the 'spirituality' of Berkeley - re meditation - which has a quite long history itself).

It also occurred to me that Quaker Meeting and Quaker schools have a long history together. Kids sit in Quaker Meeting at Westtown School, and Sidwell Friends' School in DC, for example, and most all of the other Quaker Schools as well. It's part of Friends' education. And I think Quaker Meetings in school settings are learning opportunities for both adults and kids as well.

What I appreciate also about Quaker Meeting - and online especially, having now participated in, and sat in Meeting in, a fair number of online Quaker Meetings - is very similar to what I appreciate about on-the-ground Quaker Meetings / Silent Meetings ... the centering down (a kind of inner releasing action - what I think of a de facto relaxation response), the attuning, the community, friends ... the sharing ... the connecting. And I see, re this woman's thoughts, an opportunity in online N-t Quaker Meetings to even teach or explore further kinds of

Quaker Meeting
Satori experiences
meditation - relaxation response
meditative courses - eg on loving kindness, and other Quaker and NtF themes
Friendly SPICES (simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, stewardship)
... as well as centering down, plus.

(As I've mentioned in the past, I have challenges with the 'worship' word re Quaker Meeting, and not only with my NtF leanings).

I also think if an online NTQuaker Meeting were held regularly - Sundays at 9am Pacific Time, for example? - that a few people and NtFs would begin to participate in this, and that this would grow with time. (I'd perhaps do some Yoga asana and breath explorations during this while online as well, unobtrusively). And re World University and School, too, it might be an opportunity even with regard to teaching about NtFs, in and around NtF Quaker Meetings online ... as well as and especially for teaching online friendliness re computing / the machine world we live in ... in group video, for example ... simply by beginning to sit in Quaker Meeting together online, for example, but this could also be a way to bring NtFs together more fulsomely and harmoniously, for those who might be interested. (I'd eventually like to explore facilitating music-making online ... parts' singing in real time, for example, with related learning, and where IT might help ... and as a far-out way to increase friendliness - singing together in parts - SATB - as human information technology itself).

Just adding my 2 cents to this NtFriendly conversation.

Friendly cheers,
Scott

Hi Pamela, KayR, Amanda, JohnM, and NtFs,

Am not sensing a lot of interest in an online Nontheistic Friends' face-to-face Silent Meeting in the manner of Quakers on this list. If you wanted to explore facilitating one, click on the "New Live Event" from your gmail account here - https://www.youtube.com/my_live_events?filter=scheduled - in the top right of this page, and explore getting into a free Google group video Hangout yourself. Then when you'd like to invite NtFs (Nontheist Friends), send out an email to this list.

Friendly greetings,
Scott

Hi Jess, (am including Laura, Jim and Krish here, since they as Stanford faculty were at your great talk),

Thanks for your brilliant ethnographic talk about education in Africa re the ALU (https://www.alueducation.com/) especially ... https://events.stanford.edu/events/813/81356/ ... "Africa Table: Scaling Decolonial Consciousness? The Reinvention of 'Africa' in an emergent 21st century Neoliberal University." Appreciating too the realism in your talk re questions of emergent online education, corporate culture, and leadership in Africa - and in multiple African countries, including Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. (While I've visited both Mauritius and South Africa - both on an university on a ship, Semester at Sea - I haven't been to any other sub-Saharan countries in Africa). I also appreciate the great somehow "grounded" knowledge of African education you shared today, - especially since you grew up in South Africa, Jess.

The questions I wanted to ask have to do with both accreditation and consciousness which you talked about in a variety of ways (and partly with regard to MIT OCW-centric online World University and School - which is like Wikipedia in ~300 languages with MIT OCW in 5 languages - and with which your talk resonated in amazing ways).

Am curious, how the accreditation processes you touched on for ALU in Mauritius (and Africa too), with regards to Scotland and Glasgow Caledonia University, and accreditation, might compare with Stanford's accreditation and re California's BPPE and WASC senior, (as accrediting agencies) - and for which degrees. Accreditation can be a remarkable way of developing highest quality education. So the question I wanted to ask of the people at your talk, and you - particularly the African students in the room - was to what degree did they matriculate at Stanford for explicit reasons of Stanford's accreditation (or implicitly, because of the link between Stanford's quality and its accreditation via WASC senior - https://wasc.stanford.edu/ - somehow re Stanford's reputation) .

Am also curious re questions of de-colonial consciousness, and from your role as ethnographer. and professor, in Africa, what implicit (as you see this) or explicit plans both the ALU as well as McKinsey have for questions of online mental health services, and specifically re MD psychiatry, with regard to consciousness, and medical care (online particularly), taking into account the history of psychiatry in Africa re "decolonizing consciousness" there (intertwined with social science and political science critiques and understandings of consciousness) but also with regard to research into how consciousness works both biologically (am thinking Stanford psychiatry here) and philosophically (am thinking David Chalmers here) - and even newly in terms of a conversation between the actual and the virtual, the physical and the digital. So how are these universities planning online mental health services - perhaps also in a research vein - to help their students, and to what degree are conceptions of consciousness part of this planning by ALU and McKinsey Consulting, for example?

I also ask this last question with regard to World University and School, which is planning the online degrees of Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, and Medicine (defining medicine anew perchance), as well as I.B. high school diplomas (in ~200 countries' official languages). And since MIT has neither a Medical School nor a Law School, WUaS is seeking to develop in collaboration with Stanford Medicine and Law for OpenCourseWare or similar. Since WUaS is planning online medical degrees, with online teaching hospitals, for online clinical care, in each of all ~55 African countries (indeed online in all ~200 countries' official and main languages) - and also with a research focus, eg re brain science and questions of consciousness (e.g. re David Chalmers' philosophy of mind work), WUaS is seeking to focus on decolonizing consciousness in a wide variety of ways (Paulo Freire-wise too). Am in communication with Robert Harrington, chair of Stanford Medicine, about questions of online WUaS medical schools as well. And WUaS would seek to accredit all of our planned online degrees with WASC senior, or similar, and potentially online in all ~200 countries' official / main languages, such as Mauritius's French and Kreole, depending partly on use. And WUaS seeks to develop online Wiki schools for open teaching and learning in each of all 7,097 living languages, and cultivate flourishing online learning communities in each of these (but not for degrees in all 8k languages). And this wiki-approach would facilitate both inclusiveness, but also importantly, facilitate everyone becoming a teacher at WUaS, eg teach to Youtube etc, and add it to a Wiki subject page at WUaS.

So, brainstorming-wise my question is how could de-colonializing consciousness in Africa, and with regard to economic development (eg re your focus on Africa developing corporate leaders) and re online education - work with regard to studying biological questions of consciousness in Africa, re language too, as WUaS develops graduates African students for each of these degrees, too?

So, further, re teaching MIT OCW-centric Robotics - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Robotics - at WUaS, for example, WUaS would seek to build up from the ground for this, and with inspiring Lego robotics - and as way to de-colonize consciousness (and both physically and digitally, actually and virtually, too eg think physical Lego robotics eventually in a realistic virtual earth).  And as an example of how robotics' schools in Africa might work in these regards in each of all of Africa's countries, do you happen to know, or know of, Claudia Mueller in South Africa, who teaches Lego Robotics - using Lego WeDo 2 & Mindstorms' EV3 robotics - to elementary age children at the Redhill School, by any chance? https://twitter.com/Claudannmul/status/1055510264311934976 ... WUaS will seek eventually to cultivate a kind of de-colonizing consciousness, by facilitating the opportunity for all African countries to develop their own Robotics' schools with even potentially WUaS educational services' stores (like the Stanford Bookstore) for what they create eventually on-the-ground. Robotics is actually a great way to teach programming as well, and beginning in January 2019, Lego Robotics will work with the Scratch 3.0 drag and drop programming language, which I just learned is also planned in potentially many/ even all languages. See, this Harvard GSE Scratch 3 meetup video
Scratch 3.0 Webinar | 12:00-1:00 p.m. Eastern Time
November 8, 2018
with Eric Schlling and other Harvard / MIT Scratch folks

And also ...
Scratch 3 Tutorials? today's 3 webinars are great in this regard - here's the 9am PT / 12 noon ET video - https://youtu.be/OblR5TEErFE  - #Scratch3Webinar ... https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1060583944029069312 … & https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1060589494837989376 … ... https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects   /Programming /Languages /Robotics @WUaSPress ~

World Univ & Sch is seeking too high achieving African students ... and defines high achieving here as those who might apply to and get into Stanford or UC Berkeley, both of which are accredited by WASC senior, from African and other countries, or MIT ... and perhaps newly online ... and I'd think that you would have great ideas about how to reach out to high achieving African students for free-to-students' online MIT OCW-centric and Stanford-centric degrees - with regard to the Stanford African students in your talk especially. And WUaS seeks too to create major online universities in each of all 55 African countries' official / main languages, and eventually hiring tens of thousands of African faculty members (potentially graduates of WUaS), and also staff in our robotics' school and educational services' stores.

Re WUaS accreditation too, WUaS may seek to get 100-500 online undergraduate students, beginning in autumn 2019, who might have applied to UC Berkeley or the 10 University of Califonria's and Africans would be welcome to apply as well. Classes would be taken from home online in Africa. See, in these regards,
UC Berkeley: "Well said! We encourage veterans to share their life experiences and lessons learned in the Personal Insight Questions section on the @UofCalifornia application. These experiences are what make you unique as an applicant and help our readers get to know you."

Jess, I also just blogged about fellow Reedie Katherine Verdery's talk about Romania in the Stanford Anthropology department on Monday - (Katherine went to Reed College graduating in 1970 - where I graduated in '85, - and then she got a Stanford Anthropology Ph.D. in 1977) - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/11/oregano-stanford-anthro-talk-my-life-as.html - as perhaps a parallel to your Mauritius and Southern Africa ethnographic approaches.

So some somewhat lengthy questions, Jess, but your excellent, timely and topical talk which dovetailed in so many ways with online MIT OCW-centric accrediting World University and School, - and even WUaS's plans to collaborate with Stanford - bring them out :) Thank you.

All the best, Scott

David, Hugh, Henry, Lillian, Rob and All,

Not enough kindness in the world (in my opinion). Curious how best WUaS could facilitate a single worldwide cryptocurrency with blockchain ledger backed by all ~200 nation states' central banks (think the Euro, 20 years or so in) ... and at a key moment of coding World Univ & Sch's new WUaS Miraheze Mediawiki as "front end" with Wikidata/Wikibase as "back end" for wiki learners / teachers in all 7097 living languages, - and indeed for all 7.5 billion people on earth as end users / Universitians at WUaS via an Universal Basic Income (UBI) ... https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University ... in order to distribute this new currency (to smartphones and via bank cards) ... which would be taxable, so nation states would benefit too ... https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/05/neemtree-stanford-asia-1st-annual-us.html ... Would be kind too re potential singificant loss of jobs from automation and robotics worldwide. And students in WUaS's online Law Schools (see blog entry) planned in ~200 countries' official languages as part of 200 major online CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare-centric WUaS universities could help write the code in each of all these countries for this (CS grad students too!). Free-to-students' CC-4 MIT OCW-centric degrees (reimbursed though from their nation states) would be an act of kindness as well.

I suspect you as a very high level software engineer, David, would know other great software engineers who could help with this as well.

'Twould be historic too, Hugh!

Cheers, Scott

And double drat - that you won't be able to make it (from this end too). Will be hunting the wild Fern Cake at The Scottish Gathering and Games in Pleasanton, CA - hosted 153 years / times by the Caledonian Society out west here ... And will keep my eyes peeled too for the unspoiled Scotch (sic) Egg which doesn't make people sick :) Whisky could be a tonic in these regards ... And both Fern Cakes and Scotch Eggs sound creatively Scottish! :)

Heading out for a walk now here in Canyon, CA, to see if I can spot some wild ferns, and potentially then even make my own fern cakes - while thinking of you, Susan. Fern isn't so dear when you pick it yourself! :)

Touching on Scottish freedom, and Bits-to-Bricks' Lego robotics in an innovative way for Scottish Country Dancing, I blogged a bit about some of this including piping here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/08/juglans-regia-153rd-scottish-highland.html ... Thinking about creating some online Scottish small pipe competitions and at World University and School - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Scottish_smallpipes_and_borderpipes ... (I did win a Piobaireachd bagpiping medal competing at the Pleasanton Games a few years ago :).

Further Bits-to-Bricks' Lego robotics - eventually scalable - in an innovative way in the blog post that follows - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/08/deserts-of-california-archaeological.html - some with Scottish foci :)

Hi M,

I did actually make it to Stanford at 8am, went to the mini-Stanford book fair of Stanford authors, Met and talked with John Cronker MD '74 who wrote a book about chimps and parenting, and where Jane Goodall was his mentor in Gombe in Tanzania in the 1970s too. Interesting ... Met and talked briefly with Alexa Fitzpatrick, who went to Bowdoin, but didn't know Mary Lou, ... and then headed for a talk at 8:30 am by senior Stanford faculty member and Harvard Ph.D. about how to stop climate change - very edifying and comprehensive. No other talks today are open to the General Public, but will hang out for a while too, because Stanford and Homecomings are interesting, albeit tired.

Met some very nice alums too. One asked what I'd like to teach at Stanford, after my mentioning to him that I'm seeking a position here, and I further developed the idea for this third course - 'Programming & Robotics for Anthropologists: Scratch drag & drop language with Lego WeDo2 MindStorms EV3 in the field & in water' - which I've been thinking about (https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/10/field-and-water-programming-robotics.html) partly from the talk I gave at UC Berkeley on Friday - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/10/lewis-river-washington-state-uc.html ...

Realism at Stanford (thinking Lacan and George A here in terms of realism), and Stanfordians' larger-than-life-intelligence and the culture (very Stanford international it is) that has kind of emerged from this is fascinating to observe. I enjoy the ethos of Stanford's excellence and smarts, and appreciate too the social conscience that's still in the woodwork and air emerging from the '60s / '70s which decades played a huge role at Stanford too. Stanford-ites since then have explored a lot a lot a lot, and probably pushed the envelope in fascinating ways ... but I don't know how much I'll learn about any of this in an upcoming planned book comparing the STEM Ethos's of Stanford and MIT - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/03/biocoenosis-fascinating-mit-media-lab.html?

Free-to-students' CC-4 MIT OCW-centric degrees (reimbursed though from their nation states) would be an act of kindness as well.

Scottish Country Dancer ROBOTS that 'GIVE WEIGHT'?
November 4, 2018

Alas, David!

Would be great to explore Scottish Country Dancing from the Niagra Falls' dance next May in #VR or #AR #AugmentedReality (with a realistic virtual earth as platform! - thinking Google Street View with time slider +) so you could join in from Seattle, but I don't think WUaS will have this together by then ... but eventually, and where 'giving weight' in SCD might be with robots eventually from home !

This is probably not a dance on the St. Catherine's SCD ball program, but who's that lass in 3rd position - https://youtu.be/tmcE0ttJBoQ and https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1059239130004185088 - and is that her Mum in 2nd position? They both dance so beautiful ... all eight of them do - from Newcastle, in the north of ... well, in Northumbria ... And might any of them be dancing at St. Catherine's next spring? (The dance program isn't published yet - http://www.rscdsstcatharines.ca/upcoming-events - but good to know that Don Bartlett & the Scottish Heirs are playing the music - whom I don't know ... Sioux or Rob, have you heard them?)

This side of the Atlantic changes people - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/08/cardoon-freeuniversaleducation-at-wuas.html (check out too the longevity article here from MIT Media Lab Director Joi Ito re gene editing ... ) - and possibly for a long time :)

Am still a bit into the Grateful Dead pre 1979 I have to say, however ... but hope to get into the parenting mode before long, like you :)

Appreciating your email, David,
Scott

And if you didn't know the SCD dance band, Don Bartlett & the Scottish Heirs - https://www.scottish-country-dancing-dictionary.com/video/fyket.html - now you do, or could, or what ever ... :)

Sioux ... see you there (contingent on finances here ...) ... Rob? :) Anyone else? There's probably enough time to join an introductory SCD class near where you live in January ... to learn the footwork (& for Fun Fitness Friendship to echo some British Isle's SCD sentiments ... https://twitter.com/RscdsYD/status/1058896596488912896 ... https://twitter.com/RSCDSOxon/status/1058141062340980741 ...  ) ... Ongoing interest in developing SCD music-making for bliss-generation here ... quite explicitly and consciously and technologically ... how? is the ongoing main question (pour moi:)

My tastes head in some ways to Grateful Dead concerts (alternative culturally too:) in the 1970s for Fun Fitness Friendship in Augmented Reality eventually ... but SCD is an interesting exploration in these regards (having begun SCD in the 1970s - avec certains d'entre vous)

Thanks, Prof. Hennessy, Mark, Rob, Hugh and David, and All,

Am continuing to seek a faculty position at Stanford, had two scheduled video conferences with Stanford Peace Innovation Institute's Mark Nelson about this fairly recently about this agenda doc, have been in communication with and emailed recent Stanford President/now Chair of Alphabet John Hennessy my MIT Media Lab faculty application earlier this year (which I'm attaching), have been in touch with Stanford Dean Larry Lagerstrom and an Associate Vice Provost Paul Marca there about this as well. Also gave a talk in the UC Berkeley Tourism Studies' lecture series on Fr Oct 26, 2018 in these regards, which video, related resources and slides you'll find interesting - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/10/lewis-river-washington-state-uc.html - and I'm grateful that UC Berkeley Professor Emeritus Nelson Graburn, who organizes this, wrote the Forward to my actual virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic book - http://www.scottmacleod.com/ActualVirtualHarbinBook.html - and my third book is coming out soon this autumn.

Seeking to teach the first of 3 courses beginning in January at Stanford - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html (the other two you'll find here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/10/field-and-water-programming-robotics.html).

World University and School as major online MIT OCW-centric universities and high schools in all ~200 countries' official and main languages, planning Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, M.D. and I.B. degrees, is a remarkable opportunity for Stanford in these regards (especially since MIT has neither a Medical nor a Law School) - and CC-4 MIT OCW is in 5 languages to begin. California and Californians would get MIT for free (in a sense - since WUaS would seek reimbursement from all ~200 countries' Ministries of Education per student per year) - an amazing opportunity for both Stanford and California. WUaS is currently waiting to begin accreditation with the CA BPPE -

https://twitter.com/CaBPPE/status/1024666814989488134 (and then WASC senior). And World Univ & Sch is a A) non-profit, and incorporated as a forked parallel second legal entity, the WUaS Press / Corp, a B) for-profit general stock company, in 2017, two further great opportunities - both planned in all ~200 countries and in all 7097 living languages with machine learning and machine translation.

All the best, Scott

Hear ye, hear ye,

Univ of Edinburgh Professor Gary West (of BBC Pipeline renown) will have given the Hamish Henderson Lecture earlier today - https://twitter.com/EU_SSSA/status/1061221257864196097 ... Hamish Henderson was a defining Scottish ethnologist, (a Quaker too, I understand), and one who got to know the "wee folk" and write about them in a way few have done. Gary was my advisor at the University of Edinburgh in 2003-2004 in the School of Celtic and Scottish Studies, when I studied the island archipelago off the west coast of Scotland called St. Kilda as nascent online 'place,' and as part of two networks - the internet, and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This St. Kilda project is a harbinger of my actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' project (~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~), as well as a realistic virtual earth and universe, at the cellular and atomic levels too, and for a new social science / humanities' / STEM method I'm calling ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy ... or which Scots in academia might call anew ethno-wiki-virtual-world-ology, since Scots seem to focus on ethnology in lieu of anthropology or ethnography :)

Here by the way is the Scottish_Gaelic_language wiki subject at World Univ & Sch - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Scottish_Gaelic_language - planned in Scots' Gaelic ... along with all of the 7,097 living languages (per Ethnologue) at WUaS, each a wiki subject or school in that language for open teaching and learning - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages.

And David Chalmers, philosopher of mind, who gave a  great philosophy talk on the actual and the real (which is a long time ongoing focus of mine - eg https://twitter.com/search?q=%23ActualVirtual&src=typd& https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/virtual ) at Stanford in May 2017 - and whom I heard too in Edinburgh on Thanksgiving 2003 - gives a version of his actual-real Stanford talk here in December 2017 - https://youtu.be/QMLojOcOJFI :) I hope somehow we might inquire of him to help please code for actual-virtual physical-digital questions of consciousness (and esp. re all languages), as World University and School seeks to develop a realistic virtual earth with avatar bots, of humans and other species - of individuals as well - for brain and cognitive science and questions of consciousness, and at the cellular and atomic levels.

Want to know about Scottish philosopher, David Hume and his passions - https://twitter.com/TheOpenBand/status/1050096718438522880? On first glance, The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy touches on this question more than most resources I've found online :)

So hear ye, hear ye, Univ of Edinburgh Professor Gary West will have given the Hamish Henderson Lecture earlier today ... :)

As aye,
Scott

Good morning, M,

How did your book reading go? How are you?

Really really nice Scottish music last night at Patti's and Bruce's played by Chris Duncan and Catherine Strutt ...

https://youtu.be/bioMh7CHCG4 and https://youtu.be/yXtlubYZKoM - a bit of joie de vivre with good musical synergy emerging (Maybe it's a California ethos that at times makes me worried ... and combined with an Australian ethos too ... both have frontiers in them in relatively recent history, but I also really enjoyed the music itself). Both Catherine and Chris played very well together ... Glad to see Jonathan and Ellen Lovell there, and Scot Linda Henderson who lives in Berkeley, as well.

...

Other reasons to wait ... maybe robots will emerge for cleaning ... e.g.

https://twitter.com/Soonfeed/status/1054285022075719680 ... and robots which WUaS students can design even in Lego for learning purposes and in a realistic virtual earth (but Toyota and Sony and Walmart too for ex.) ...  and furniture at Ikea even will change a bit in response to robotic cleaners ... (In conjunction with Stanford how to become a network excellent manufacturers on par with Toyota for robots ... and a bit re Walmart, for ex. which I think networks manufacturers?:)

...

Holding a WUaS Hangout on Air soon at 10 am ...

World Univ & Sch: Actual-Virtual Lego Robotics & Twin Studies in a Realistic Virtual Earth

https://youtu.be/RJGEeU0Eo5c
https://youtube.com/user/WorldUnivandSch ... may head to Stanford for 3 talks ... Have fun at your last courses this week.

Hi M,

Smokey at Stanford too ... big couple of burns in the SF Bay Area, I'd guess ...

front room's floor is clean :) ... so I'll unpack my sofa bed this evening probably :) ... nice to have a clean front room ... am interested in advancing a house-cleaning robot (out of something like Toyota research, for ex.) for everything (like filing papers, etc. and clean high places ... outside 2nd story windows) ... including equality questions especially ... (but concerned that robotics will put a lot of people out of work as well ... one of the main arguments for planning for an Universal Basic Income ... ) Ethics can get quite convoluted as information technologies develop  ... :)

Hi Non-theist Friends (NtFs), A-religious Quakers (ArQs), Friends, friends, and All,

Re NtF Meeting online, blogged a bit about this further -

Valerian (herb): People vs Machines/Computers, Went into an independent Mac store yesterday in Berkeley, She was encouraging folks, and me in our conversation, to cultivate the people side of life, vis-a-vis computers and machines, Would face-to-face group video bridge the people-machine questions?, Would TEACHING loving kindness online - that is friendly people skills - be a possibility, and also re how Quakers have long taught a related kind of friendliness?, What I appreciate also about Quaker Meeting is the centering down (a kind of inner releasing action - what I think of as a de facto relaxation response), the attuning, the community, friends ... the sharing ... the connecting, Just adding my 2 cents to this NtFriendly conversation, Friendly SPICES (simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, stewardship) - newly online, and non-theistically re NtFs?

Hi Lucy, Dick, Ma and Alden,

The smoke here is abundant and keeps coming. Am staying in much here, where air is cleaner.

Echoes Harbin Hot Springs' burn of Sept 2015.

End of season, very dry,

... upwind of Harbin Hot Springs,

.... upwind of the SF Bay Area

... hoping it isn't the work of arson, or someone or some group even with psychiatric problems.

Could possibly be partly planned to prevent house and property damage otherwise. The scale is g inormous. Here's a picture from friend (& MIT & Yale graduate) Jim Spohrer who lives near San Jose -

https://twitter.com/JimSpohrer/status/1063884921104519168
And a separate, related Tweet

I guess we'll have to wait until the dry wood all burns, or they put it out.

Urban echoes of the gas fires in greater Boston area homes earlier this year?

Some news from the SF Bay Area.

In further news ...
I have the sense World Univ & Sch is coming to fruition. It looks like a coding team is emerging out of Stanford's graduate school of education, and that accreditation first with CA's BPPE will be possible online in upcoming months, esp. with better web site. Online students from UC Berkeley's admissions perchance, matriculating in autumn 2019.

I read the air is a bit cleaner in Monterey and Santa Cruz, a travel opportunity.

Warm greetings amid the particulate :)

Hi Barbara,

Thanks, you too!
Re what is going on here? ...

https://twitter.com/TheOpenBand/status/1064240132109172736 ... much I'd hazard ...
Thinking it could be construed as an interfaith dialogue by comedians in a Christian conversation / discourse / culture / milieu (anthropolocially speaking too) by a thinking atheist comic, Cleese, who's a bit of a reasoning philosopher too, and a film producer, and all within the norms of British civil argumentation (by 5 smart 'wits' or 'elders' there in 1979) ... where all 5 of them had just lived through the explorations of the '60s & '70s mostly in Britain, and with some hippy echoes, - hitchhiking to do the film in Tunisia, ways of seeing things  :)) a bit hippy blasphemous too, where the flag of blasphemy is eroded into British good courtesies

Strawberry eaters unite! We have nothing to gain but our health and sweetness ...

https://twitter.com/JohnCleese/status/1064910084348747776 ...

There's freedom in Cleese's words :)

Re further brilliance, here's Monty Python, "The Meaning  of Life," the sex ed scene, and in a Fettes College (high school in Edinburgh, Scotland) lookalike classroom ...

Am reminded of IT sociologist Manuel Castells' middle book "The end of the millennium" (2nd edition) in his major trilogy "The Rise of the Network Society" - which he said he named because he couldn't think of a better nane. ... he was an UC Berkeley professor for 22 years, I think, before returning to Catalan / Spain ... may dip into this again (since I teach about the IT revolution :) ... http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html ... am a bit of a Castellian.

On with publishing my third book here, not nearly as funny as Monty Python's humor wagon ... Cleese is so 'on' in these clips ... a bit extraordinary :)

Thanks for your email too.

They're all taking the piss out of religion and identity, - and themselves by extension - and they're all pretty aware or conscious of this too (back in '79, represented on the telly) ... and they do so so nicely  ... "thems fighting words" ... so let's all sit down in a Television interview on the bbc.co and have a good row about this ... 'comic debating rules' here ...  advantage Cleese :)

And some are here taking the piss out of their own crossover or cross-wired religions ... it's all very muddled, and hilariously so ... (religion and identity, am agin it :) ..  agin is a Scots' word, n'est-ce pas?

The power of the word? :)

Hi Barbara,

Tempest in a teapot ... and here re Malcom Muggeridge, a satirist, and one of the interviewees (in reverse Wikipedia section order ...:)

Criticism of Life of Brian[edit]

In 1979, along with Mervyn Stockwood, then Bishop of Southwark, he called John Cleese and Michael Palin "dishonest" during an edition of the chat show Friday Night, Saturday Morning. Muggeridge declared their film Life of Brian to be "buffoonery", "tenth-rate", "this miserable little film" and "this little squalid number". Muggeridge regarded the film as blasphemous, despite having arrived late for the showing, according to Palin, thus missing the two scenes in which Jesus and Brian were shown as two separate people at the same time. The comedians expressed disappointment in Muggeridge, whom all in Monty Python had previously respected as a satirist. Cleese said that his reputation had "plummeted" in his eyes, while Palin commented, "He was just being Muggeridge, preferring to have a very strong contrary opinion as opposed to none at all."[19]

Conversion to Christianity[edit]

An agnostic for most of his life, he became a Christian, publishing Jesus Rediscovered in 1969, a collection of essays, articles and sermons on faith. It became a best seller. Jesus: The Man Who Lives followed in 1976, a more substantial work describing the gospel in his own words. In A Third Testament, he profiles six spiritual thinkers, whom he called "God's Spies", who influenced his life: Augustine of HippoWilliam BlakeBlaise PascalLeo TolstoyDietrich Bonhoeffer, and Søren Kierkegaard. In this period he also produced several BBC religious documentaries, including In the Footsteps of St. Paul.
Muggeridge became a leading figure in the Nationwide Festival of Light in 1971, protesting against the commercial exploitation of sex and violence in Britain and advocating the teaching of Christ as the key to recovering moral stability in the nation. He said at the time: "The media today—press, television, and radio—are largely in the hands of those who favour the present Gadarene slide into decadence and Godlessness."[18]

Lived in Edinburgh, Scotland the first time from 1976-77, so am familiar with the Zeitgeist and British characters it produces ... in these clips ... the British 'do drama' so brilliantly ... a cultural expression I'd hazard ... anthropologically ...

:0)

Glad World University and School has begun in Google Sites anew - https://sites.google.com/view/worlduniversityandschool - with all the machine learning, and so much more I.T. which is part of the Google / Alphabet platforms and technologies. (WUaS is waiting on a NSF grant, the lion share of which will go to Stanford graduate students, as well).

Am meeting with a Stanford Graduate School of Education Project Manager to develop WUaS further information technology-wise ... which is all very momentous.

Ma,

Very nice to talk with you yesterday evening.

Looks like the rain to clean the air will begin between 8 and 10 this morning, according to -
https://weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/l/Canyon+CA+94516:4:US - but I already hear it on the roof now at 4am! And the porch is damp.

I've been mostly staying indoors to avoid breathing the smoke in the air for about 10 days now.

Hoping to connect as friends with L. Social norms are very different in the country she comes from than here ... and can seem to head toward the harmoniousness (Goethean?) as part of the societal contract, and in the work world too - very differently from the US. and both places experienced the freedom seeking movements of the 1960s, with their alternative and protest cultures, profoundly questioning and thinking about societal norms, interestingly.

Happy Thanksgiving. And have a great trip to Portland...

Bon voyage, and love,
Scott

Dear M,

Nice to see my 92 year old Quaker friend Sanjiv Kamath in Santa Barbara, originally from India for the first 20 years of his life, still holding a reading and self-study group -

When I similarly searched on

May add the 'reading' and 'self-study' words to - http://www.scottmacleod.com/yoganotations.html - after reading them re Sanjiv. Self-study is a yoga word ...

Happy traveling and stay warm !

How are you?

Would love to head up to Harbin again with my friend Ed (above) at some point when Harbin re-opens in 2019. (Am continuing to seek to begin a family ... )

May I invite you also to Thanksgiving here in Canyon tomorrow at noon or 1, Sunheart? Four other friends are coming over from San Francisco.

The Harbin ~ Esalen parallels are far-reaching ... and I hope to explore some of these further in my blog today, as well.

Hoping you are well, and thanks for opening up a chat-channel in Youtube.

Dear Rinpoche,

Thank you for your excellent and brilliant Stanford talk "Dream Yoga: Lucid dreaming from the Bön Buddhist tradition of Tibet" - https://events.stanford.edu/events/784/78487/ - yesterday.

My questions have to do further with the Yoga side - vis-a-vis the significant Buddhist understanding of mind which you shared - and the bodymind brain science side (where and how do dreams work in the brain and with languages, and how can we study this scientifically ... and could hypothetical brain science / meditation studies even include you?)

I found this related video of your teaching online -

... and I will seek to add it to these wiki subjects at World University and School -
I wanted to let you know as well about MIT OCW-centric Tibet World University and School -
- planned in Tibetan - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Tibetan_language - for online free-to-students' degrees (Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, MD and IB). World University and School is seeking online students - from Tibet for example - in the autumn of 2019, as we proceed with accreditation with the state of California (and are seeking to become accredited by WASC Senior, which also accredits Stanford and UC Berkeley and the other UCs, for ex.)

I noticed too this
Interesting location for your workshop earlier this year ...

Deeply appreciative of the logic, wisdom (and humor) in your talk, and your thinking and practices.

With very best wishes,

Curious whether the centered bench will come thru... I think this park is also called Adobe park ... could it have been called a Doobie park too at one time? :)

Not boring but also not interesting Youtubes, AND online video in general ... data HEAVEN in SO SO many ways ... and Video will get even more interesting as they become interactive etc., e.g. it would be great to talk interactively and in new ways with Stanford Philosopher and Professor of Comparative Literature Richard Rorty in this 2000 Dutch interview with the Dutch Wim Kayzer -

https://youtu.be/bTSdyxKyHrU ... and as avatar bot in virtual Harbin. Rorty mentions a focus on bliss at the 3 minute mark, etc.  ... and his engagement with TEXTs seem to be a kind of practice of aesthetic bliss.

See, too:

Would love to talk with him creatively again, in completely new ways ... and perhaps via a Richard Rorty avatar bot ... and perhaps also create a completely new interview from 2000, for example, compared with this one, with him in 2000. I'd be happy to interview a sophisticated Richard Rorty avatar bot in 2000 ... and in a realistic virtual Harbin - think Google Street View with TIME SLIDER / Maps / Earth / Hangouts / Translate / TensorFlow.

Here's this - https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/rorty/ . He moved from the University of Virginia to Stanford as a philosophy professor in 1998, and this video above again is from 2000.

Am seeking to become a Stanford Professor as well, and potentially in January, thanks partly to my actual-virtual Harbin books re 'how did you get it all together ?'

Happy Thanksgiving!

Would get a 3rd room with this re my place in Canyon, and a place to stay overnight at Stanford too ...

Ans a LL Bean's Woodland Screen House 10x10 tent on porch here would give me a 4th room as well, esp. for those who like to sleep outside :) ... a hybrid Toyota van could even be only car (they're so well designed).

Painting job opportunity ... chickens on the roof, - for eggs and veggie protein ? :) ... shower would be sweet, but not in these (Stanford has gyms)

Hi Robert, Bruce, Jack and All,

Thanks much for your note, Robert. Am not seeking to join the UUCPA choir in situ, but would be interested in staying on the email list - and re eventually exploring growing a virtual choir - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Virtual_Choir - re World Univ & Sch - e.g. on Thursday evenings PT, and Sunday mornings PT - with simply a tablet in front of you, Bruce, so that interested folks from around the world - UUs and Church choir singers especially - could explore singing with in real, real time online, either muted or not, post Eric Whitacre, and such that we could develop new voice singing information technologies (building on something like Rosetta Stone 3's language learning software +) ... and perhaps also with Stanford / Google for I.T. innovations and developments.

Would it be ok to remain on the list (with both emails) please? Thank you, and nice to be in touch!

Friendly regards, Scott

Creative Robotics' school online at WUaS

Hi Byron,

I've got a Creative Robotics' school online idea going, maybe eventually in the shop next door, and am wondering if I could please hypothetically drone-deliver some early prototype products to you (via perhaps a realistic virtual earth as well) 4.3 miles away, but not as the crow flies over East Bay MUD. :)

Just Tweeted:

Although many matriculated students at WUaS might be doing something similar from all over the world, I won't encourage them to drone-deliver their early prototype products to you too :)

Hi Byron,

Have fun in the snow in Tahoe this weekend. I heard lots of snow may be falling - it's raining a lot here, and felt a lot like Portland as I just walked down to the Canyon, CA US Post Office.

Also won't be sending any creative robotics' prototype products via drones - like a Lego Mindstorms' EV3 cross-country telemarking skier :) - to you in Tahoe for a long long time probably. Batteries for 'there and back again' have a ways to go, for one. :) And here are new drone standards, as well -

Would be great to figure out the recycling of robots now too. I read Lego is doing an exhaustive research project into this, but cars missed the mark.

Any Toyota robotics on your radar? Many good related robotics' ideas here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/robotics - .

Dear Jonathan, Paul and All,

Thanks for meeting on Wednesday at French Baguette in Millbrae for an interview for an hour, Jonathan. Am including my MIT Media Lab faculty application from last December 2017, and a recent CV for you, Paul (https://www.linkedin.com/in/drpaulkim/), especially (in that I'm seeking a Stanford faculty position), and since you're assistant Dean in the Stanford Graduate School of Education. I've already shared this with President Emeritus of Stanford, John Hennessy, another Dean, Larry Lagerstrom, a Provost, Paul Marca, and Stanford Peace Innovation Institute's Mark Nelson, among others.

With regard to the WUaS web platform development questions In Google Sites on Wednesday, I've now successfully created 4 web pages, but the 3 new ones aren't working publicly yet. I'm writing to ask for some help in figuring out how to make these, and this whole system and platform, work please.

This World Univ & Sch Home page is working in Sites:
A)
501 c 3 non-profit World University and School wing -

but these new WUaS Corp pages aren't:
B)
for-profit general stock company WUaS Press / Corp -

The latter three are all on the B) WUaS Press / Corp for-profit general stock company wing, and I could make these two books available in PDF format for sale immediately, if I get the payment system working (planned from all ~200 countries). And these web pages on the B) WUaS Co wing should eventually feed into a publicly traded stock price, after this wing goes public with an IPO.

Please remember that both A) and B) are separate legal entities in the state of California, and it's important for them to remain separate platform-wise I think (so the above new Press and Books' web pages could be considered mockups).

And WUaS already has Intuit Quickbooks for non-profits in the cloud - which correlates to non-profit A) ... but can't work with for-profit B.

My hunch is that the latter 3 web pages are not working publicly because the TXT verification with host Gate.com hasn't worked yet for days, but the CNAME verification did work starting a few days ago with Gate.com, and this has allowed me to publish successfully all 4 pages to Google Sites, so that I can see them and develop them further, so -

TXT verification in DNS setting - NOT VERIFIED

CNAME verification in DNS settings - VERIFIED - allowing me I think to PUBLISH all 4 pages to Google Sites.

But beyond this, the Google platform is technically beyond me, and especially with planning for machine learning and voice and finance, etc., for example, - and WUaS is seeking professional guidance here.

Again, I'm continuing to seek a faculty position at Stanford, had two scheduled video conferences with Stanford Peace Innovation Institute's Mark Nelson about this fairly recently about this agenda doc, have been in communication with and emailed recent Stanford President/now Chair of Alphabet John Hennessy my MIT Media Lab faculty application earlier this year (which I'm attaching - with my updated CV), have been in touch with Stanford Dean Larry Lagerstrom and an Associate Vice Provost Paul Marca there about this as well. And the course I'm co-teaching at World University and School with Larry Viehland (above) is proceeding - at not-yet-accredited World University and School, but with our first matriculated online undergraduate class.

Please remember that the two WUaS wings A) and B) are a remarkable and unique GROWTH & revenue opportunity to create online CC-4 MIT OCW-centric (in five languages) universities in ~200 countries' official/main languages, and wiki schools in all 7,097 living languages, with academic presses / bookstores / computer stores (Ikea / Walmart) 0 where Wikipedia is in ~300 languages, and WUaS has too Wikidata/Wikibase with MediaWiki. And WUaS seeks to hire a remarkable number of Stanford graduate students, beginning with the pending WUaS National Science Foundation grant, and potentially eventually hire possibly 2.2 million people in all ~200 countries and ~7,100 living languages - to become the Stanford / Harvard / MIT / Oxbridge of the Internet.

Looking forward to learning how best to proceed with, and scale, the WUaS information technology platform, and with the faculty position as well.

How best to communicate about this further?

Thank you very much, and looking forward to further communication about this soon.

Thanks, Tony,

Let's plan for this as we begin to develop World University and School in WUaS MediaWiki / Wikidata/Wikibase here in the World University and School Law Schools -
https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Law_School (and in the beginning planned online law schools below, planned in all ~200 countries' official languages).

Hope to begin a 'Blockchain ledger' wiki subject at WUaS soon too, but in the meantime people can wiki-add blockchain resources here - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Law and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Artificial_Intelligence and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Banking_and_Money (accessible from -  https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects), - each subject planned in each of all ~200 countries' official and main languages.

Not too many blockchain ledger or related courses at MIT OCW (https://ocw.mit.edu/search/ocwsearch.htm?q=blockchain), or at WUaS (https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/w/index.php?search=blockchain&title=Special%3ASearch&go=Go), so looking forward to developing such curriculum out of Stanford Law CodeX and Stanford Law re World Univ & Sch.

Tony, where do you see the blockchain ledger and law playing a role with the development of a single cryptocurrency in all ~200 countries, and backed by all ~200 countries' central banks - and re MIT Digital Currency Initiative's Executive Director, Neha Narula - https://twitter.com/neha - if at all? Have blogged some about this - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/07/himalayan-brown-bear-world-univ-sch.html - as well, and with regard to Stanford too and developing approaches to alleviate poverty in Africa, for example, but all around the world (https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Poverty_Action). World University and School is seeking to plan for all 7.5 billion end users as we develop our 'main You at WUaS' (https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University) for learners in all 7,097 living languages, and this could dovetail with the development of a single cryptocurrency in all ~200 countries.

Jonathan, talk with you soon about this.

Thank you, Tony.

And World Univ & Sch is seeking to facilitate a realistic virtual earth for ALL libraries ever - conceptually think Google Street View with TIME SLIDER / Maps / Earth / Translate / TensorFlow + -  where we can all add libraries to this. For example, take a video of a physical archive - say an aisle of books in a library - convert this digitally from video to 3D interactivity (program not written yet), and add links to any given book or newspaper to the actual readable printed content. You can see some pictures of how this might work here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/10/cetonia-aurata-how-many-further-ways-we.html - and here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/12/san-gabriel-wilderness-libraries-in-all.html and https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/11/lions-in-trees-all-libraries-all.html and https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/11/lilies-in-garlands-can-world-university.html (and a realistic virtual earth for all museums ever as well).

4

World Univ & Sch may be heading toward getting a coding team in collaboration with the Stanford Graduate School of Education for WUaS - in order to develop

A) a plan and platform for improving this - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - with machine learning on the university side in multiple languages and with machine translation ...

B) the Academic Press / Bookstore at WUaS - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html - with machine learning and voice with machine translation with these two books re the WUaS bookstore - http://www.scottmacleod.com/ActualVirtualHarbinBook.html - http://www.scottmacleod.com/HaikuishPoetryBook.html - as examples.

5

World University and School is planning Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, M.D. and I.B. degrees, as major online CC-4 MIT OCW-centric universities and high schools in all ~200 countries' official and main languages, and is a remarkable opportunity for students in these regards - and CC-4 MIT OCW is in 5 languages to begin. California, Californians and Students from all ~200 countries in the world would get MIT for free (in a sense - since WUaS would seek reimbursement from all ~200 countries' Ministries of Education per student per year) - an amazing opportunity.

WUaS is currently waiting to begin accreditation with the CA BPPE - https://twitter.com/CaBPPE/status/1024666814989488134 (and then WASC senior). And World Univ & Sch is a A) non-profit, and incorporated as a forked parallel second legal entity, the WUaS Press / Corp, a B) for-profit general stock company, in 2017, two further great opportunities - both planned in all ~200 countries and in all 7,097 living languages with machine learning and machine translation.

Seeking to grow World Univ & Sch into a Stanford & a MIT in each of all ~200 countries' main/official languages - w combined numbers of faculty & staff -& wiki schools in all 7097 living langs growing from Wikipedia's staffing growth in ~300 languages - 2.2 million Universitians?

Thanks - very grateful, Tony.

Greetings Jameson. Looking to developing a lot of course ware, and eventually online law faculty positions, in all ~200 countries' official / main languages.

It would be interesting to bring you, Tony, and MIT Digital Currency Initiative Director Neha Narula into conversation.

Here's a fascinating interview with Neha Narula, director of the MIT Digital Currency Initiative - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/09/sequoia-sempervirens-cones-stanford-law.html - and who may be involved in thinking through a single cryptocurrency (with blockchain ledger) backed by ~200 central banks.

As World University and School begins to code our wiki for matriculated students in all ~200 countries' official languages, and for wiki-learners and teachers in all 7,097 living languages, WUaS would like to explore further coding for an Universal Basic Income for all 8 billion people on earth (taxable so nation states would benefit with new revenue streams - potentially with the block chain too), and as a way to distribute a single cryptocurrency backed by most of ~200 nation states' banks (post Euro in ~19 out of 28 nation states, and backed by these central banks). WUaS would like to do this too as an assistive technology, defining assistive technologies anew - and potentially working with Intuit TurboTax re their approach to assistive technologies (and Ted Drake at Intuit). Fortunately, the Euro has a ~20 history as a regional currency which lessons' learned could positively benefit the development a single cryptocurrency backed by 200 countries' banks - since this would be an enormous change in the world's finances. Hopefully World Univ & Sch's planned Law Schools - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Law_School (see below too) - and WUaS's planned Computer Science Departments - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Computer_Science (emerging from CC-4 MIT OCW in 5 languages - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/electrical-engineering-and-computer-science/ and https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/translated-courses/) in each of all ~200 countries' online will be able to help facilitate such a ginormous undertaking - and potentially emerging from Stanford as well (https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/10/northern-spotted-owl-comparing-stem.html).

The issues you raise in your email note, Tony - "public policy on privacy / self sovereign identity and data justice/governance in the big picture and the underlying synecdoche of money as a bundle of naming rights" - would all play out, conceptually, in ~200 countries, and for 7.5 billion end users/learners/teachers - You at WUaS (https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University) - at World University and School, and either on 7.5 billion individuals' smart phones/mobile phones (and much of the developing world has mobile phones), or on bank cards with chips, for example ... and, also, for ex, the largest refugee camps in the world, with about 300,000 people in them, mostly in eastern Africa, already have systems of currencies on bank cards or similar, as I understand this, so there is some precedent.

Jameson, how might we best develop law open course ware, or similar, in all ~200 countries' official languages, for online law schools?

Best regards,
Scott

Thanks, Tony,

Let's plan for this as we begin to develop World University and School in WUaS MediaWiki / Wikidata/Wikibase here in the World University and School Law Schools -
https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Law_School (and in the beginning planned online law schools below, planned in all ~200 countries' official languages).

Hope to begin a 'Blockchain ledger' wiki subject at WUaS soon too, but in the meantime people can wiki-add blockchain resources here - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Lawand https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Artificial_Intelligence and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Banking_and_Money (accessible from -  https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects), - each subject planned in each of all ~200 countries' official and main languages.

Hi Jonathan (and All),

Have had some success with Google Sites in beginning to revamp World University and School's landing page - https://sites.google.com/view/worlduniversityandschool - as a starting point. Google Sites said that, upon publishing, I should be able to go www.worlduniversityandschool.org and get to this new site, but this hasn't worked yet however, .

Thank you for the generative conversation, Jonathan, which is leading to these new much needed WUaS web site developments!

As a heads' up, WUaS (which I think it's valuable for all of you to know) is comprised of two wings, an
A) World Univ & Sch, a non-profit 501 (c) 3, as of 2011, and
B) the WUaS Press / Corp, a for-profit general stock company, incorporating as a forked parallel second legal entity in  2017,  - both planned in all ~200 countries and in all 7097 living languages with machine learning and machine translation. Here again are the planned revenue streams for both wings - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html .

It was in and after a Stanford Law CodeX presentation that WUaS was able to incorporate legally as a for-profit general stock company in California - (and the named CEO currently is Julian Dumitrascu in Romania) - with an AI chat bot, thanks to presenter, lawyer Tom Martin. As WUaS begins to develop both wings, WUaS would like to plan too for the blockchain ledger. And the Stanford Law school has a new academic blockchain journal. Jonathan, and All, do you happen to know Stanford Law CodeX Tony Lai (same last name as yours Jonathan!) - am introducing you here in this email - originally from Hong Kong and Oxford, I think. He's spearheading in part Blockchain endeavors at Stanford Law, and it might be good to talk all together with him about how to begin to build in the blockchain ledger re both of WUaS's wings - i.e. for textbook sales to matriculating WUaS students, if appropriate.
Within Google Sites, I'd like to begin to develop with this 4 column approach - https://www.harvard.edu/ - especially for WUaS's ~12 main areas:

1 Languages (in all ~8,000+ - each a Uni or Sch with WUaS Universal Translator: https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/WUaS_Universal_Translator)

2 Countries/Nation States with map (in all ~200+ countries, each a Uni or Sch in official/main languages)

3 You at WUaS & Admissions/Registering at WUaS for free, accrediting, best STEM-centric CC OCW, online Bach., Ph.D., Law, M.D. and I.B. degrees

4 Subjects (using SUBJECT TEMPLATE to create new subjects)

5 Courses & Schools

6 Music School at WUaS (planned for all instruments, and for all languages as wiki)

7 Library Resources (all museums in all languages in a realistic virtual earth - think Google Streetview with time slider)

8 Museums (all museums in all languages in a realistic virtual earth - think Google Streetview with time slider)

9Hardware Resource Possibilities

10 Educational Software

11 Foundation at WUaS

12 Research (best STEM CC OpenCourseWare-centric - in ~200 countries official languages, and in all 7097 living languages as wiki schools).

How best to begin the "backend" planning for applying / registering / matriculating students in all ~200 countries' official languages - and first with accreditation and via the state of California's Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education ... ie course catalog connected with matriculated students ... and all of this while tooling for machine learning.

Thank you !
Scott

HI Paulo,

Very nice to talk with you this evening.

I just noticed that you're affiliated with the Graduate School of Education at Stanford -
https://lemanncenter.stanford.edu/sites/default/files/PauloAdeodato_Resume_2017_03_28_v05_LemannCenter.pdf. World Univ & Sch seems to be getting a coding team from there, which is momentous.

Here, by the way, are the (again) beginning Brazil World University and School -  https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Brazil - not yet in Portuguese - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Portuguese_language - and Brazil Law School at WUaS https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Brazil_Law_School_at_WUaS. Check out the initial MIT OpenCourseWare here. What do you think? What resources would you add? I'll keep you posted as they emerge in Portuguese (e.g. their subsections, thanks to Wikipedia/Wikidata/Wikibase).

Bon voyage, and looking forward to staying in touch.

Warm regards, Scott

Telomere: Stanford-Duke Cardiology Symposium

*

Dear Helen,

Thank you for your excellent and far-reaching Stanford-Duke Cardiovascular Research Symposium talk "The Long and the Short of it: Telomere Length as a Hallmark of Cardiac Failure" yesterday - http://med.stanford.edu/cvi/mission/upcoming-events/stanford-duke-cv-research-symposium-2018.html (http://med.stanford.edu/content/dam/sm/cvi/documents/pdf/stanford-duke-program-2018.pdf).

Here's MIT Media Lab Director Joi Ito and per Harvard's George Church and gene editing - https://web.archive.org/web/20180605002848/https://www.wired.com/story/the-responsibility-of-immortality/ - and re longevity (and the wiki subject for this at MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Longevity - of which I'm the startup founder), - re the longevity article mentioning telomeres which I mentioned. With regard to "Eternal youth, eternal old age, or having our cryogenically frozen brains thawed out 2,000 years," George Church is doing gene editing research now with dogs, having moved on from mice, as well as mentioning 9 main scientific approaches to longevity:

"He is currently experimenting with age reversal in dogs using gene therapy that has been successful in mice, a technique he believes is the most promising of nine broad approaches to mortality and aging—genome stability, telomere extension, epigenetics, proteostasis, caloric restriction, mitochondrial research, cell senescence, stem cell exhaustion, and intercellular communication"

The prospect of many people living beyond the 122 years of the longest known living person (Jeanne Calment) is fascinating in terms of especially emergent social problems per Joi Ito's article, "The Responsibility of Immortality: Welcome to the New Transhumanism" - https://web.archive.org/web/20180605002848/https://www.wired.com/story/the-responsibility-of-immortality/. I wonder if a realistic virtual earth with avatars bots for planning purposes could help (https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/08/auk-what-is-arcore-by-google-you-can.html), and am thinking here Google Street View with TIME Slider / Maps / Earth / TensorFlow - at the cellular and atomic levels with all species and even all individual organisms, conceptually - for STEM research, clinical care, and as medical school / research classrooms.

I'm curious especially how your approaches to studying telomeres, and the 8 other ways to study longevity mentioned in this article will all emerge in such a SINGLE realistic virtual earth for STEM research, and even in collaboration with something like Project Baseline.

What do you think? And what please is the name of the researcher you mentioned?

Very nice to talk with you and thank you for your excellent and exciting presentation.

Best regards, Scott

Thank you, Svati, for your excellent and far-reaching Stanford-Duke Cardiovascular Research Symposium talk, "Project Baseline: Return of Results - Seek and Ye Shall Find" yesterday - http://med.stanford.edu/cvi/mission/upcoming-events/stanford-duke-cv-research-symposium-2018.html (http://med.stanford.edu/content/dam/sm/cvi/documents/pdf/stanford-duke-program-2018.pdf).

In talking with Svati after her great presentation about Project Baseline and communicating results, she encouraged me to email you, Rob, as co-founder of Project Baseline (and re our communication after your UCSF talk in April 2018 here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/04/lady-slipper-orchid-uscf-duke-univs-rob.html - too).

What I was mentioning and curious about, Svati, has to do with exploring how
A
i) Project Baseline might develop into online hospitals for clinical care in ~10 years (possibly longer or less time).

ii) How Baseline might develop into a comprehensive STEM Medical research site as well, and as a SINGLE realistic virtual earth (part of the Google platform/ecosystem - I'm thinking here Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth / Brain / TensorFlow - and at the cellular and atomic levels+) - for everything actually.

iii) And how Baseline might also develop into avatar bots eventually for actual-virtual, physical-digital direct correspondence, and for even tele-robotic surgery - and potentially for all species and all organisms, a ginormous data vision and project. This would include potentially eventually even the possibility of virtual gene editing (CRISPR into Baseline/StreetView?) and genomics, so that per Rob's recent Tweet that "Genetically Modified People Are Walking Among Us" - https://twitter.com/califf001/status/1069041413461962752 - this gene editing and these people could "walk" VIRTUALLY / DIGITALLY too (am thinking Second Life / OpenSimulator avatars here, but realistic ones, not cartoon-esque). (See too this blog post with an email to Dr. Helen Blau and her work on Telomeres from Friday, and re longevity questions - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/12/telomere-thanks-helenblau-for-your.html - and where I hope to post some of this email as well).

Communication here would include completely new forms of publishing, including participant communications, as well as patient records, from within such a Project Baseline realistic virtual earth as hospital.

B
I also mentioned, as a heads' up, Svati, the possibility of

i) Project ECHO (MD specialists to rural populations with a mentoring aspect in group video) becoming online medical schools in ~10 years (more or less)

ii) with NEJM Continuing Education Modules (CME) as a basis for the first 2 years of online course ware - and subsequently translated into ~200 countries' official / main languages, for online Medical Schools

C)
In developing MIT OCW-centric World University and School (of which I'm the startup founder), WUaS seeks to develop online Medical Schools with online teaching hospitals for online clinical care. And in WUaS's new wiki, and in developing "World University and School: Online Medical Schools and Teaching Hospitals in ~200 countries’ official languages," and re - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States - WUaS seeks to generate, conceptually, Medical Schools in each of all ~200 countries' official / main languages from a Template like this - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University_Medical_School - with CC-4 MIT OCW in 5 languages and CC Yale OYC course ware, but MIT and Yale don't have any Medicine OpenCourseWare for online medicine degrees (newly defined potentially). Linked to each of these medical schools would be an online teaching hospital, e.g. - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Hospital - for clinical care. As I've mentioned to Bob in our meeting in the autumn of 2017 in his office, Stanford Medicine in creating Medicine OCW could ask reimbursement from nation states' ministries of health, based on GDP, of something like and some percentage of the $63,080 per student per year that it costs to attend Dartmouth this year - https://geiselmed.dartmouth.edu/admissions/costs-and-financial-aid/ - for CC-4 Stanford Medicine OpenCourseWare in all ~200 countries' official / main languages where applicable. (Starting with Canada and California/North Carolina, for example, could have merit, since these are probably prosperous states).

D)
And here's an example of how this might work in Zimbabwe in Africa with a specific disease in this blog post:

Claytonia virginica: online Zimbabwe Medical School with online Teaching Hospital for Clinical Care, Stanford Africa Table "Human Papillomavirus Screening in Rural Zimbabwe," April 25 2018, Thanks too for replying, in response to my question, that Zimbabweans are hungry for medical education, Google/Verily's and Stanford and Duke's Project Baseline and eventually into a map for health for Zimbabweans, Concerning the realistic virtual earth for STEM research, I mentioned - think Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth / Translate / TensorFlow / Brain - and at the cellular and atomic levels too, possibly emerging out of Google's Project Baseline itself - online hospitals might emerge uniquely in this in the future, and even with avatar bots (that correspond to the 10,000 real participants in Project Baseline) for clinical care, research, bioengineering, genetic therapies, and eventually even actual-virtual remote tele-robotic surgery

E)
And such a Project Baseline hospital in a realistic virtual earth could even be developed for clinical trials - with speakers of all 7,097 living languages - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/07/cypripedium-lady-slippers-orchid.html.
F)
You'll find further, mostly Stanford, talks about Project Baseline and Project ECHO in this compendium blog post - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/02/lithops-collaboration-between-stanford.html - as well.

Very nice to talk with you Svati (and Bob), and looking forward to further communication about this re this remarkable Duke-Stanford collaboration and with great regard to Project Baseline.

All the best,
Scott

Dear Annie and Juliana, (and could you please forward this email to Annie),

Thanks for your great "Give People Money: How a Universal Basic Income Would End Poverty, Revolutionize Work, and Remake the World" talk and conversation about an Universal Basic Income at Stanford on Thursday - https://events.stanford.edu/events/797/79792/. Thanks too for your US economic (and political) realism perspectives, Annie. (And nice to have met you first, Juliana, in February of 2017 at another Stanford UBI talk).

And thanks, too, for your responses at the close of this conversation to my individual questions about whether - per the MIT Digital Currency Initiative's mission to "empower individuals by making it as fast and easy to move value across the world as it is to move information" (https://dci.mit.edu/) - we could develop an UBI for all 7.5 billion people in each of all ~200 countries, and in their official and main languages, and indeed to peoples in all 7,097 living languages (re MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School), on smart phones and on bank cards, etc., as a way to distribute a single cryptocurrency with blockchain ledger backed by ~200 countries' central banks. Annie, I appreciate your observation that "the money would have to come from somewhere," and, Juliana, that "banks are predatory," and that when I asked whether you meant nation states' central banks, that you implied they are too. And that when I asked further, Juliana, whether a hypothetical "Bitcoin" or similar could emerge as such an international currency (post US dollar as a current de facto international currency, and post Euro, in its ~19 out of ~28 nation states, as a new regional currency, backed by ~19 central banks), that you implied a wariness of central banks as being predatory here too.

In response, I wonder if the money could actually come from non-predatory central banks (and I realize that that may be an oxymoron, Juliana, in your thinking). But in planning in very broad strokes for an UBI for all 7.5 billion people (see this recent blog entry https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/11/damson-blockchain-ledger-open-course.html - for other aspects of how this might work), what do you think about planning to give ~ $1000 for a year to the rich people in the rich countries of the world, and a ~$1000 to the poor in the rich countries of the world too, indefinitely, and a some proportional amount per GDP (or similar) per country to the poor in each of all ~200 countries (with a focus here on helping the poor in the poor countries especially, and indefinitely, but - per what I learned in your Stanford talk, Annie - building on the existing social welfare schemes and programs in the US for the 320 million in the US, and building similar social welfare schemes and programs in the countries that have them and which may have been operational for generations, and also to develop new related programs in the countries that don't have such programs in relation to an UBI?

I think that it could be possible to connect giving a hypothetical $1000 in 'Bitcoin" or other smart cryptocurrency to all 7.5 billion people (proportionally per country or similar) to their smart phones / bank cards / accounts / etc., for a year with all ~200 countries' central banks, and importantly, especially as a way to distribute a new single cryptocurrency universally. I'm also a bit in touch with the President of the World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim and Stanford Professor Condoleezza Rice, 66th U.S. Secretary of State, whom I heard at another Stanford talk, "Human Capital and Technology: Building the New Social Contract" ... https://events.stanford.edu/events/804/80416/ on October 2, 2018, and who could be very helpful in these regards as well. I'm including in this email the MIT DCI Director Neha Narula, as well as President Jim Yong Kim, Stanford Professor Condoleezza Rice, and Larry Viehland, who's the Chair of the Board at MIT OCW-centric World University and School (https://twitter.com/JimYongKim - https://twitter.com/CondoleezzaRice - https://twitter.com/neha).

I hope too that CC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School could help facilitate coding and teaching/developing the international law for this, in each of all ~200 countries' official and main languages - and potentially in conjunction with Stanford Law (and even eventually Stanford Medicine). World Univ & Sch is seeking to create major online universities in each of all ~200 countries' official / main languages, and offer online Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, and M.D. degrees, as well as potentially online I.B. high school diplomas.

How might we best communicate further about these questions of facilitating an Universal Basic Income?

Looking forward to the Stanford UBI talks in January and March, Juliana, and thanks again for your timely, topic and thoughtful talk about an Universal Basic Income.

Thank you.

All the best, Scott

Will add this to yesterday's blog post (1 Dec 2018) ...

Good morning, ma mere,

How was your day yesterday? Did you go to symphony, hear music otherwise, or go to one of your book groups?

Both 'The Desiderata' and Stanford philosopher Richard Rorty's talking are also kinds of songs :) as is Jefferson Airplane's 'Surrealistic Pillow." Richard Rorty kind of roars as well. But in the KQED talk -

https://youtu.be/Fx9Pu2ZYcKQ - he speaks of both hope (at 30:30 min. mark) ... "as coming from utopian dreams ... got married to a certain person ... same for a nation ... we dream dreams " - a career, partner and family - and imagination (at 31:50 min. mark), - and I could read World University and School here, as well as a realistic virtual earth.

Rorty also speaks much about freedom (and is quite against religion for good reason here too) ... but I'd like to suggest that secular non-theist Yoga (Angela & Victor inspired too) offers freedom as well ... and re Rorty's thinking? ... a different expression of freedom ... Rorty is a Stanford prof of comparative literature, and a significant philosopher / public intellectual (in 2000 and 2006) here.

...

Glad to have heard back too from Stanford researcher Helen Blau Ph.D. (who's about 70 yrs old, English, and has a Harvard PhD) - to this email in this blog post:

"Dear Scott,

So glad you enjoyed my talk and our work.

Warm regards,

She gave a stellar talk at Stanford Medicine on telomere extension - which may be related to questions of extending life.

Sometimes I feel disconnected, so I appreciate getting such communications, and positive forms of connecting.

Soup was delicious last night. Hope you have a great day and talk with you soon. On with book and Stanford today ...

Hi M,

Have sometimes wondered too what in "The Desiderata" - http://mwkworks.com/desiderata.html - a "wholesome discipline" means ..

"Take kindly the counsel of the years, ...
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself."

And I can construe this as a bit of daily Yoga exploration - both asana and perhaps as philosophy.

Just listened too to Stanford Philosopher Richard Rorty's talks here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/11/northern-cardinal-doubt-toyota-humanoid.html - and re philosophy too. The first one is with a Dutch interviewer and touches on ecstasy, very unusually in philosophy -

https://youtu.be/bTSdyxKyHrU - and the second one is with a SF Bay Area interviewer - https://youtu.be/Fx9Pu2ZYcKQ (embedded above) - where both interviews are pretty inspiring. Rorty is amazing in a variety of ways, and you might enjoy these Youtube interviews as well, and there's also a label for Rorty here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/Richard%20Rorty.  (George A MD, a Lacanian psychiatrist let me know both about The Desiderata and Rorty's 1979 book "Philosophy and the Mirror of Nature" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophy_and_the_Mirror_of_Nature. I think Rorty was informed by the '60s too, and in far-reaching ways. And you might find his thinking fascinating in these interviews because of his political insights especially, M.

Am enjoying presently Jefferson Airplane’s Surrealistic Pillow

https://youtu.be/cEY9deRvV2w ... which you might as well.

Hi M,

Am keeping my fingers crossed ... Started cooking a lentil soup I like this evening. Should be done in 20 minutes. Back to whole foods, and hearty natural soups.

By song, - and getting World University and School for this - I don't mean my blog, but that could contribute to this idea. It's an idiom for a very low price https://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/buy+something+for+a+song and https://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/for+a+song and https://www.wisegeek.com/what-does-it-mean-to-get-something-for-a-song.htm (but not necessarily an euphemism, I just learned).

Hoping you had a good Saturday! How are you?

L, Scott
