Red Macaw: Zapotec, The Bible/New Testament as a basis for the WUaS Universal Translator, WUaS Business Plan

Jim,

Interesting ISSIP talk just now by Cambridge University's David Price.

For an Universal Translator -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/WUaS_Universal_Translator - in all
1,329 of the largest languages (100,000+ people - 99.9% of the worlds'
speakers, I thnk), finding the most-translated-book-ever, the New
Testament/Bible as an UTF-8 document in 1300+ languages will be a good
project for interns, and WUaS may have to travel with scanner for
these, but there's a good chance many of these are already accessible
on the web; brilliant idea, Jim (see too:

)!

Here are some initial UTF-8 multi-lingual Bible resources I've found

Any chance you could possibly please focus some IBMers on some of this?

Dear Markus, Jim and Jim,

World University and School hopes tomorrow, Wednesday, March 3, to
begin moving from Wikia to MediaWiki in a Hackathon at Code for
America/Code for San Francisco at 155 9th St, SF, a block and half
away from the WUaS Hive meeting space at the AFSC / SFFM building
at 65 9th St. Here below is my letter to Logan Jewett, who may help
with this project, possibly asking questions of Jason Lally and
Jesse Biroscak, who are more experienced coders there. What further
steps should I plan for in potentially engaging
Wikidata/Wikibase/SemanticWiki/WikiCommons and for the semantic
web, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and in planning
for all 7,870+ languages and 242+ countries/regions, and a
universal translator, both CC and non-CC?

Thanks, Scott

Hi Linda (from AFSC!) and Universitians,
I'm not seeing you here today at the WUaS hive meeting space at AFFSC / SFFM on 9th St. but wanted to make further contact with you here.
As WUaS begins to grow in many of these languages - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvXsWjm5CIcbdGM2cGJuZ0dzMWlMdEg3S3U3clJfaHc&usp=sharing - the first translators of all these WUaS languages may well become heads/presidents/presiding clerks of universities in their languages, and even for accreditation for online CC degrees (MIT OCW and Yale OYC) in the large languages in their countries.
And all of this will also become the basis for developing WUaS in many, and eventually all, 7,870+ languages - and eventually in CC Wikidata / Wikibase - an interlingual database - for an Universal Translator.
For an Universal Translator -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/WUaS_Universal_Translator - in all
1,329 of the largest languages (100,000+ people - 99.9% of the worlds'
speakers, I think), finding the most-translated-book-ever, the New
Testament/Bible as an UTF-8 document in 1300+ languages will be a good
project for interns, and WUaS may have to travel with scanner for
these, but there's a good chance many of these are already accessible
on the web; see too:
http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/02/native-flax-seed-plants-very-cool.html )!
Here are some initial UTF-8 multi-lingual Bible resources I've found
Let's find more in all 1329 languages!
Cheers and see you soon here at the WUaS hive meeting space at AFSC / SFFM. Thank you!
Best,
Scott

Hi Linda at AFSC (and Gantt and Board and f/Friends),

I just updated again the General Manager wiki page at WUaS

adding this updated WUaS Business Plan -

"WUaS's Business Plan's 6 Foci - Updated, In all 7,870 languages and 242 countries, MIT OCW, Yale OYC ...1) Fundraising for 501 (c) 3 WUaS, 2) Bookstore/Computer Store, 3) Governments' collaboration for CC Academic Degrees, 4) Academic Press, 5) Non CC Music lessons and tutoring, 6) universal broadband internet connectivity"

... and WUaS, as I think about the General Manager position, as well as the COO position, Gantt, would probably involve focusing the hiring of the first few interns also in terms of revenue generation for WUaS Business Plan vis-a-vis the above. This would also involve writing job descriptions - and WUaS getting a job website (ideally like Kaiser Permanente's for secure medical records, or IBM's - both of which I applied for jobs at last year, but possibly somehow also in Google ... I'm going to ask the de facto technical leads I'm a little in touch with about some of this too - Jim, Jim and Markus ) but which WUaS People web site would also be for academic transcripts and registration, and also connect with the bookstore - so kind of Admissions and You at WUaS all in one - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Admissions_at_World_University_and_School ...

I'm attending a Hackathon on Wednesday evening at 6:30 down the street (at 155 9th St. SF) where I hope WUaS will change wikis from Wikia to MediaWiki with WikiCommons/Wikidata/Wikibase, and with Korean and Mandarin Chinese speakers I met at a Hackathon there on Saturday to start also building in those languages. (Would you like to come with your knowledge of Zapotec and Spanish?). The first step in the multi-language process will be to translate the headings on the SUBJECT TEMPLATE page - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/SUBJECT_TEMPLATE - into these languages. (Would you like to come to this Hackathon for the Zapotec and Spanish languages?)

And what would you add to this General Manager page?

There's a Quaker focus through much of these intern positions ... http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Internship_Program_at_World_University_and_School ...

Cheers,
Scott

Banyan tree: Loving Bliss, Harbin warm pool, and Quaker "Faith and Practice" book language updates?, As I wait to hear back from Duke University Press about publishing my actual / virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic book, In what ways might F/friends add language to F&P that queries and possibly teaches (in the manner of Friends' schools) about eliciting loving bliss far-reachingly and as Quakers?

I recently received an email that {Quaker} Pacific Yearly Meeting and San Francisco Friends Meeting are revising their "Faith and Practice" which is all about Quaker Meeting process, and includes queries, for example, for reflection and discernment, but much more. I appreciate the flexibility of Quaker language, - and its respect for the truth of both individuals and the group in words - and for the language itself to become very inclusive through careful consideration of this by Friends as a corporate whole (and for me as an atheist Friend, or nontheist Quaker).

So in Quaker Meeting earlier today I shared that I would like to see more in "Faith and Practice" about eliciting Loving Bliss neurophysiology - e.g. http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Loving_Bliss_(eliciting_this_neurophysiology) - (and the existing F&P book already offers a corporate decision-making process which is fairly caring and loving {http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Caring_and_Loving}, impressively - and includes characterizing process for consensus decision making, or discerning the sense of the Meeting, as a kind of far-reaching democracy).

The loving bliss I have in mind, as I shared in QMeeting with F/friends, is very much informed by, for example, the effects of music of the Grateful Dead, and the communitas and the bliss that was generated at Dead concerts (from 1965-1995), almost naturally, thanks to the GD's music, - but, possibly in a more Friendly manner, these days (not many Quakers quake when sharing their leadings these days, for example), the loving bliss I have in mind which might be included in the revised F&P, could have more to do with a kind of releasing action or relaxation response meditation, and related l.b. for, that emerge in the Harbin Hot Springs' warm pool due to the warm waters, and the sense of serenity from soaking together.

As I shared further in words with Friends in Western Shore Meeting, I said that as I wait to hear back from Duke University Press about publishing my actual / virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic book with them, I see parallels between "Faith and Practice" as text which characterizes Friendly process and how Quakers make decisions together as a group, and much more, and my Harbin anthropological manuscript which characterizes Harbin, - and especially in terms of kinds of sharing and connecting.

In what ways might F/friends add language to F&P that queries and possibly teach (in the manner of Friends' schools) about eliciting loving bliss far-reachingly and as Quakers?

I think the following offer ways into developing in different languages in Wikipedia/Wikidata, very relevant to CC WUaS's plans to develop wiki schools in all 7,870 languages - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Languages ...

*

In the next RFC meeting we will discuss the following RFCs:

* AuthManager
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Requests_for_comment/AuthManager>

* Allow ContentHandler to expose structured data to the search engine
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T89733>

The second one is not a proper RFC page on mediawiki.org, because
Daniel Kinzler felt like being an anti-wiki rebel this week ;)

The meeting will be on the IRC channel #wikimedia-office on
chat.freenode.net at the following time:

* UTC: Wednesday 21:00
* US PST: Wednesday 13:00
* Europe CET: Wednesday 22:00
* Australia AEDT: Thursday 08:00

Tim: Can I please ask a general question about AuthManager and ContentHandler, since I'm a little unfamiliar with them, and in terms of Wikipedia's 288 languages? How do these work inter-lingually? And in what ways arehttps://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Requests_for_comment/AuthManager and https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T89733 - anticipating adding further languages? Thanks.

Are you familair with https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Localisation ? That
explains how MediaWiki i18n works in general, and it's very unlikely that
new features would not use that existing mechanism.

For UI elements, AuthManager will likely be suggesting i18n message keys
for a form field label and for an API parameter description. Actual use of
those keys would be up to the caller.

For errors and such in responses, AuthManager would again be returning i18n
message keys and parameter lists.

AuthManager is mainly an internal backend refactor that has nothing to
do with language support.

Brad, Legoktm and All,

Interesting and thanks. And how does ContentHandler - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T89733 -  "Allow ContentHandler to expose structured data to the search engine" work generally, and particularly vis-a-vis adding further languages to Wikipedia's 288, for example? What's the process for "wiki-adding" languages here hypothetically?

Thanks,

Scott

Each page has a defined language.  By default it is wgContLang (a global variable).

However, ContentHandler has a getPageLanguage method (https://git.wikimedia.org/blob/mediawiki%2Fcore.git/631186747a916454c71ee49c7d078c5faa1a009b/includes%2Fcontent%2FContentHandler.php#L641) that allows customizing how this works.

MediaWiki interfaces (menus, tabs, button text), etc. are also documented into many languages.

Separately, the WMF process for adding new project languages (e.g. NewLanguage Wikipedia) begins athttps://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages .

Thanks!

Landing Pages for Wikidata Partners

Landing pages for partners[edit]

Hey folks :) In my job I get approached by institutions, companies and so on about getting involved in Wikidata. Over and over again I have to explain the very basics like "no you can not just dump your data here" or "yes it will be open to editing by anyone" or "yes you can use our data but it'd still be awesome if you give credit". Since me telling this over and over again does not scale any longer I started two landing pages - one for partners who want to use data from Wikidata and one for partners who want to donate data to Wikidata. They're in my user space at User:LydiaPintscher/Donating data and User:LydiaPintscher/Using data. This should also be a great resource for anyone else who gets approached about such topics since I am sure I am not the only one. It'd be lovely if you would help me expand them and make sure they reflect community consensus. Edit away. Depending on feedback I'd love to move them to the project namespace next weekend. --LydiaPintscher (talk) 09:58, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

Haluk, could you possibly please post my presentation to the top of this main ISSIP page, if you and JIm think this is a good idea ?

My experience with LinkedIn with my posts is that after LinkedIN says that one has posted successfully, some posts take 15-30 minutes to show up and others take 24 hours.

And I wasn't able to post this ISSIP presentation announcement yesterday to either of these LinkedIN pages -

Hi Logan, Jason, Yasuhiro (Android and Japanese) and Linda (AFSC, Zapotec languages and WUaS Languages' General Manager?) and friends,

Thanks again, Logan and Jason, for helping with the key next steps of installing WUaS in MediaWiki and beginning to develop the universitian database last Wednesday, March 4, here -

This Wednesday, 3/11, it would be great if we could begin to develop the WUaS
1
You at WUaS - Admissions - Secure Academic Registrar - WUaS courses for degrees - wiki pages at WUAS ...

in two languages (English and Japanese) and in Android (with Yasuhiro's help!)

anticipating all 7.780+ languages (think Wikipedia / Wikidata)

- with MediaWiki GlobalUserPage ?

-with think Google + Profile with translation function, for example -

Google for Education as well?

and anticipating -

- all 7,870+ languages

- with an universal translator and with machine learning / machine translation / AI

- bookstore computer store -
WUaS Bookstore ... with Intuit products like Multi-store?
- Quaker Earthlight Bookstore

- using probably a Guidebook and a Test approach to building the componentry of an universal translator, e.g. California Driver Book and test or the New Testament and Tests in terms of machine learning, machine translation and natural language processing

- and defining Creative Commons' licensing vis-a-vis non-Creative Commons' licensing in terms of the WUaS universal translator ... e.g. in terms of an Universal Translator What's open free and CC ... and what can be used commercially, and by whom?

- Hiring e.g. Reed College Reedie interns or Cal Berkeley? -

which employment jobs' software might we use, e.g. IBM's, Kaiser Permanente's, Google's jobs' site itself?

I hope to be able to talk us through all of this as well on Wednesday :)

Best,
Scott

Jason,

Great to meet you, and thanks for your skillful coding, organization and energy yesterday at Code Across and as a key data person for the city of SF.

Hoping to come to the Hackathon this Wednesday at 6:30 and explore beginning World University and School in MediaWiki / Wikidata (anticipating A.I. machine learning and an universal translator, as well).

Here are some key wiki email lists for this -

California tiger salamander: WUaS in MediaWiki / qLabel / Wikidata / Wikibase / SemanticWiki accessing Wikicommons in the process ... potentially in 3 or 4 languages to begin, British Friend Programmers, Guidestar Gold level, Erinn Andrews, Former Stanford Admissions Officer who is GuideStar’s "Senior Director of Nonprofit Strategy," Inspiring Stanford University's Guidestar profile

(and reated resources -

Calendula species: WUaS technical lead questions and the semantic web, artificial intelligence and IBM Watson, WUaS Information Technologies and Data Plan

and -
WUaS_Information_Technologies_and_Data_Plan

It would be great to begin the multi-lingual aspect of this, for example, in Korean (with Byeong Seo Seon), German (Max) and Mandarin Chinese (Bonnie), whom I met yesterday, and others, on Wednesday, as well, if possibly.

All-languages WUaS itself will become a far-reaching digital synchronous city per your - https://twitter.com/synchronouscity :)

Best regards and thank you!
Scott

Do you know Ffriends who have worked with MediaWiki / qLabel / Wikidata / Wikibase / WikiCommons / SemanticWiki accessing Wikicommons or who might be involved in the Wikidata / Wikitech / Semantic Wiki email list communities?

A specific course in 1000 + languages, such as the California Drivers Handbook and related Test is a far-reachingly great idea for many reasons:

a - it's a building block of an universal translator, both CC and non-CC

b - it could be used to create courses and generate languages and textbooks for languages and innovative ways to learn languages that are dying

c - it could be used to study how students learn at WUaS, inter-lingually and comparatively and with machine learning eventually ...

Hi Universitians,

At Wikidata communications' person Lydia Pintscher's invitation - https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Project_chat#Landing_pages_for_partners - I just posted how WUaS would like to donate to and use data in Wikidata:

Hi Lydia, CC World University and School, planned for all of Wikipedia's 288 languages plus more languages, would like to partner with Wikidata to use Wikidata data as WUaS grows with developers, particularly in terms of these main areas: Languages, Nation States, You at WUaS, Subjects, Courses, Musical Resources, Library Resources, Museums, Hardware Resource Possibilities, Educational Software, and Research, and in many languages, as inter-lingual wiki - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - and multilingually, if possible please. What this data is will significantly unfold as WUaS grows. Thank you for offering this "talk" opportunity to explore this further. --Scott_WorldUnivAndSch (talk) 22:50, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi Lydia, CC World University and School, planned for all of Wikipedia's 288 languages plus more languages, would like to partner with Wikidata to donate data to Wikidata - focusing on its basic level of useful information about the world - as WUaS grows with developers, particularly in terms of these main areas: Languages, Nation States, You at WUaS, Subjects, Courses, Musical Resources, Library Resources, Museums, Hardware Resource Possibilities, Educational Software, and Research, and in many languages, as inter-lingual wiki - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - and multilingually, if possible please. She says she hopes "to move them to the project namespace next weekend." Looking forward to seeing what conversation emerges between Wikidata and WUaS.

Camellia sasanqua: 9,000 Languages and their Countries in a spreadsheet is an amazing WUaS development because each of these languages, in this list, will become an open editable wiki school in that language and the larger languages will become accrediting universities in their nation states and also the basis for an Universal Translator, Suggestions for adding their populations of native speakers to this list?

Thank you, William, Jim and all,

This list of some 9000 languages (and their countries) - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jS7aKMoUgWokzJVW2VSXDfDRoFJGdBnVwSWbas3oS7c/edit?usp=sharing - in a spreadsheet is an amazing development because each of these languages, in this list, will become an open editable wiki school in that language (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Languages), and the larger languages will become accrediting universities in their nation states (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Nation_States), and also the basis for an Universal Translator.

If we can identify the size of the populations of the largest 1400 languages (which about 99% of the worlds' speakers, I think), this will become the basis of a Course in 1000+ languages ... see - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/03/beluga-whale-course-in-1000-languages.html - where you'll also find the audio recording and slides of my ISSIP talk on Wed. March 11, 2015.

Suggestions for adding their populations of native speakers to this list? (I can give you access to this spreadsheet in the cloud if needed).

Thank you!
Scott

cheers,
Scott

Dear Larry and Universitians,

Nice to talk with you in WUaS monthly business meeting just now, Larry and friends.

Here are other main links to online courses from Yale, some of which are free, including CC Yale OYC (http://oyc.yale.edu/). Creative Commons' licensing is WUaS's main focus in order to offer free online courses:

Online Yale.edu courses -

Coursera / Yale -

It's interesting that Yale went with Coursera (https://www.coursera.org/yale), with is for-profit, and that Yale isn't a partner in edX - https://www.edx.org/schools-partners; (see, too: http://harvardmagazine.com/2013/05/harvard-mit-edx-adds-15-partner-institutions).

Here's discussion of Yale's mission for knowledge generation online - http://news.yale.edu/2012/12/19/report-committee-online-education

Since Coursera is a for-profit organization I recently heard, I want to learn more about edX's mission and licensing (https://www.edx.org/about-us):

Since the following goals and principles are from edX:

"Our goals

Expand access to education for everyone
Enhance teaching and learning on campus and online
Advance teaching and learning through research

Our principles

Nonprofit
Open source platform
Collaborative
Financially sustainable"

.. and since edX principles include being a "Nonprofit," an "Open source platform," and "Collaborative" I would think WUaS might be able to post free edX courses to our developing WUaS website/database for credit for matriculated students. Further research needed.

Sincerely,
Scott

March 14, 2015 Monthly Business Meeting Minutes, Agenda and Blog Entries from WUaS and Scott for World University and School

Minute –

WUaS has started moving into MediaWiki, without advertising. Part of the reason to do this is to respect the wishes of our Creative Commons' licensed partner, MIT OCW. WUaS has begun to add Open Yale Courses that might co-constitute one or more extra majors in addition to the three we've identified - focusing on CC video courses. WUaS is considering exploring adding non-CC free edX - https://www.edx.org/course - and free online Yale courses - http://online.yale.edu/courses-online - to WUaS developing database/website of courses (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Courses - planned for large languages in most countries), for credit, for matriculated students.

Minute –

WUaS created the form for prospective students to enter their contact information - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/. Please add your name if interested. WUaS needs to develop and post holistic terms of service.

Hi WUaS Board Members and friends,

You now have access to this developing "Courses" spreadsheet in which Larry has been developing WUaS majors - with six currently.

Govind, would you like to develop an Economics' major?

WUaS is currently planning to draw video courses from

CC MIT OCW - http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/audio-video-courses/,

CC Yale OYC - http://oyc.yale.edu/courses,

edX with its open goals and principles - https://www.edx.org/course,

Yale online courses, with some free courses - http://online.yale.edu/courses-online,

and other developing sources for free online courses, and with stable URLs.

See this blog post - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/03/trillium-grandiflorum-yale-oyc-edx-and.html - where I'll also add this email.

Please email Larry or simply begin to add a major, and then come into further communication with Larry, myself et al.

Thank you,

Dear Tracy Bell, and DFCI at Harvard,

Thank you for hosting this very helpful and informative G+ Hangout "Navigating Clinical Trails" conversation just now today.
If I may, I'll add this video-recording and conversation -
https://plus.google.com/u/0/events/c029hrrrv49p1v0rha6s88fivfc - to the following World University and School (WUaS) wiki Subject pages:

Clinical Trials at WUaS (for all languages) -

-

Cancer Biology -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Cancer_Biology -

Research -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Research.

Startup WUaS is like Wikipedia with best, STEM-centric OpenCourseWare (e.g. CC MIT OCW in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC), and WUaS is planning to be in all 7,870 languages and 242 countries, each a wiki subject page to begin, as accrediting universities and wiki-schools, and eventually for online Clinical Trial studies and research - e.g.
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Clinical_Trials_at_WUaS_(for_all_languages) - and potentially first in large languages, thus potentially helping to generate large possible populations for clinical trials.

Tracy, I've just followed you (https://twitter.com/tjbell24) and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute (https://twitter.com/DanaFarber) on Twitter from here - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivandSch.

I'm curious to come into communication further with you and DFCI about possible collaborations. How would you possibly suggest proceeding in these regards? I'll email you about this as well.

Thank you.

Best,
Scott

Hi, Jim H, Jim S, Wendy, and All,

Thanks. I added your TEDx talk, Jim H., to World University and School's Artificial Intelligence wiki subject / school - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Artificial_Intelligence - a few weeks ago, and enjoyed it (check out all the CC MIT OCW on this page too). And I just added this conversation - "Another discussion on AI - good or evil?" - itself to this page/school, only in English so far. Let's construct AI for the "good" - and at WUaS especially, planned for all 7,870 (living) languages, and accrediting in large languages first (e.g. on CC MIT OCW which is in 7 languages, for example, for online university degrees), we have the opportunity to shape AI for the good in far-reaching ways.

Jim and Hamid,

Thanks for these slides - http://www.slideshare.net/hrmn/cognitive-assistants-vision-and-open-challenges (accessible here: http://cognitive-science.info/community/weekly-update/) - which I've added to World University and School's Artificial Intelligence wiki subject / school - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Artificial_Intelligence - which didn't have very much on "Cognitive Work Assistants," and related, prior to this:

Nezhad, Hamid R. Motahari. 2015. [http://www.slideshare.net/hrmn/cognitive-assistants-vision-and-open-challenges Cognitive Work Assistants: Vision and Open Challenge]. March 9. San Jose, CA: IBM Slides.

Glad to see too in slide 28 that "cognitive work assistants" can draw significantly from Wikipedia (now in 288 languages), - and especially vis-a-vis wiki WUaS planned for all 7,870 (living) languages, and accrediting in large languages first (e.g. on CC MIT OCW which is in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC, for example, for online university degrees), which plans to be the wiki university knowledge generator (paralleling Wikipedia as wiki encyclopedia), and in all languages.

I'll also add this LinkedIn conversation as well to the wiki WUaS "Artificial Intelligence" school, in English only so far.

Could you also please add WUaS at - worlduniversityandschool@gmail.com - to this CSIG talk's email list in order for WUaS to be able occasionally listen to/participate in these electronically mediated talks, if possible?

Thank you,
Scott

Hi Jean and Carolina,

Very nice to talk with you yesterday evening at Civic Hack Night at 155 9th SF, and thank you, Jean, for this possibility of volunteers.

As an overview:

In addition to planning for a "You at WUaS" - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/You_at_World_University - database for 11 billion people in 100 years (per Hans Rosling) and 9,000 languages as schools - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Languages - each a wiki subject page to begin, WUaS would be interested in fixing the spelling error here -
http://worlduniversityandschool.org/mediawiki-1.24.1/index.php?title=Main_Page - when someone creates an account (e.g. the "uniersityandschool" database is missing a "v"), and developing and adding a logo based on the image I'm attaching ...

... and which will also reduce to a light-ish blue rectangle on its side (a little like National Geographic's yellow upright rectangle), among many other things, including developing our courses for student applicants wiki page applying this autumn 2015, as if applying to MIT / Stanford etc. Developing "You at WUaS" with registrar and multilingual courses' databases are highest priorities.

Looking forward to making another pitch at Hacknight SF next week for universal education based on highest quality OpenCourseWare, as well as for open teaching and learning in wiki schools in all 9,000 + languages (extinct ones too) and in each of these languages! WUaS would like to become the Harvard / MIT / Stanford / Oxbridge of the internet and in all 7,870 living languages and 242+ countries, offering free since CC online accrediting degrees in large languages.

Thank you again!
Scott

Hi Jean,

Thanks for your email, and guidance, and I'll prepare some slides for next Wednesday, per:

1) why is this important?
2) why should I care?
3) how does this work help users?

Concerning Hack Night SF/CfA Volunteers:
WUaS would love! to have some volunteers (e.g. http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Volunteers - think Wikipedia volunteers, too) help with WUaS User Experience (UX) development for - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/mediawiki-1.24.1/index.php?title=Main_Page - especially as we port (if possible) WUaS over from - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/ - and see too, for example, the main Subjects' page - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Subjects - as an example of what we'd like to port. But porting over to WUaS MediaWiki may be best done in VisualEditor only available to Wikipedia's MediaWiki projects, and WUaS would like to integrate with Wikicommons / Semantic Wiki / other Wikipedia assets as we develop in interlingual Wikidata. (VisualEditor for MediaWiki from the Wikitech folks in Wikipedia just got 30-40% faster yesterday, but again is only currently available for Wikipedia-related things, and soon will be available for the broader MediaWiki community. It's also designed for many languages - see, for example - https://rest.wikimedia.org/).

So in terms of developing UX at WUaS, would you like to help co-author and co-develop the current Volunteers Wikia page - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Volunteers - with what's there, what's fun and what you think would work best? You could even invite people to help us co-author this page as our goals become clearer through conversation. I think the very fun aspects of developing WUaS include teaching to / editing / thinking through UX in any of the Subjects' page - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Subjects - which Wikia pages would also be a great place for volunteers to practice developing UX and in anticipation of moving all these Wikia WUaS pages over to MediaWiki WUaS.

WUaS's main goal is to prepare the UX for matriculating undergraduate students applying this autumn 2015, matriculating 2016 and graduating in 2020, so, knowing all of the above, it would be really great if you and I could focus this Volunteers' page - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Volunteers - for those Hack Night Volunteers who really want to help, - and since you know the CfA Volunteer community, please try editing this page yourself if inclined - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Volunteers - as a kind of organizing-for-this beginning to learn what you might suggest to other Volunteers next Wednesday, for example.

I welcome your thoughts and ideas about all of this, either in email or by editing the WUaS Volunteers' wiki page.

Thank you and cheers.

Best,
Scott

Hi Jean,

Thanks for connecting in LinkedIn just now. Great to see you'd like to start schools in Burma.

Re Burma WUaS and the main Nation States subject at WUaS:

After looking at your LinkedIn profile, I thought you might like to see the Burma World University and School - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Burma_(Republic_of_the_Union_of_Myanmar) ... (accessible here at the main Nation States wiki page - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Nation_States - at WUaS) - and not yet in Burmese, - and WUaS hasn't also yet found any OCW in Burmese. You could become its head, if interested, and help develop its UX into thousands+ of pages, and facilitate teachers there teaching Google + Hangouts as well, for example. I share this with you to give you some further insight into how WUaS works, and where WUaS is heading. If possible, WUaS would like to offer accrediting best STEM-centric online degrees in ALL countries and in their main languages, with these degrees - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Admissions_at_World_University_and_School#World_University_and_School_Links - while remaining wiki schools for open teaching and learning in each language and nation state. You could thus also potentially inform/guide eventually the building out of all countries world universities and schools in Wikidata, and inter-lingually - just a little project :)

I've also added some of my recent emails to you in my blog as a resource - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/03/ocelot-you-at-wuas-database-for-11.html - and all of which in turn has many WUaS resources in this blog label - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/global%20university .

Time to network further with the Wikidata / Wikipedia community ... :)

Cheers,
Scott

... just deliberated in my first "JuryX: Deliberations in Social Change" HarvardX / edX course session in a MIT UnHangout group video conference in Harvard Law Prof. Charles Nesson's HarvardX / edX / JuryX online course. It was enjoyable and the course and edX platform are well done At the end of the session's deliberations on the Palsgraf tort case, I mentioned beginning 2 new law schools for Brazil and Mexico, to Claudio S in Brazil and Erick in Mexico.

I also just added the following 5/5 star review to the JuryX edX course front page -

(and to a number of other social networking sites as well):

Harvard Law Prof. Charles Nesson, aka Eon, dean of cyberspace!, is inspiring.

I enjoyed taking his "CyberOne: Law in the Court of Public Opinion" course on Harvard's virtual island in SL in 2006, so I'm excited he's now teaching JuryX (http://juryx.net/) at HarvardX / edX. I also was a juror in his mock Burning Man trial, also on Harvard's virtual island a few years after this, where he got to be the judge! Charlie innovates with digital technologies in fascinating ways.

The HarvardX / edX platform is great for JuryX, - and inspiring too for startup online CC World University and School - http://worlduniversityandschool.org - which is like Wikipedia with best STEM-centric OCW (e.g. CC MIT OCW now in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC) and is planned for all 242 countries, with online law schools, and WUaS is also planned for all 7,870 languages.

Thank you Charlie, for this juryX course ... Perhaps we can start teaching JuryX in many languages at WUaS.

Cheers, Scott

As I was re-watching Prof. Charlie Nesson's JuryX intro video, I found, too, this video with the Egyptian Director of the Library of Alexandra Dr. Ismail Sarageldin, who has a Harvard Ph.D. from 1972, meeting with edX -

edX Welcomes the Library of Alexandria

See, too -

Here's Dr. Ismail Sarageldin Twitter:

I hope the spirit of the late 1960s and early 1970s, which informs both the time when Dr. Sarageldin lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts, studying for his Harvard Ph.D. '72, as well as the freedom and openness orientation of edX, CC MIT OCW and CC Yale OYC will generate very fruitful collaborations and conversations with World University and School .

WUaS hasn't yet become financially operationally to speak of, whatsoever, and this may help. (Here are WUaS's monthly business meetings' most recent minutes and agenda - http://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2015/03/march-14-2015-monthly-business-meeting.html?view=sidebar).

I'm pleased too to say that WUaS's presentation proposal to Friends Association for Higher Education gathering (http://quakerfahe.com/2015/01/12/2015-conference-request-for-proposals/), which theme is "Truth and Transformation", in June, at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon (and last year at Haverford), has been accepted, and WUaS may also be seeking resources from the Gatherings Assistance Fund for this as well, unless WUaS can generate resources in other ways for this. Suggestions and guidance are welcome in this respect.

Please invite teen and young friends to add their names to the new Sign Up Form here - http://worlduniversityandschool.org - if they might be interested in beginning an undergraduate degree online in 2016 at Friendly-informed WUaS (accrediting on best, STEM-centric OpenCourseWare

Dear A,

It was very nice to talk with you today after Meeting at San Francisco Friends' Meeting. It was great too to see the Meeting's newly renovated and very nice Rausch Street property. I also made a food delivery to the poor at Mercy Housing SF on Mission after this, I'm glad to say, - as part of the SFFM food pantry project.

Per our conversation, I'm sending you World University and School's business plan which I've attached, and here is a link to it also - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jKN6wGRNHXWZkEZpGHSx71CGSHoA5r0qmFoakMklAY0/edit?usp=sharing. I'm including L.V. in this email, since he's both WUaS's CFO as well as Treasurer presently.

What please is the best way to meet and talk with the Meeting's bank, New Resource Bank, as well as to follow up with you about our conversation, and realize a loan or even grants / donations to 501 (c) (3) WUaS?

Thank you! Very nice to talk with you today. Friendly-informed wiki World University and School will help so many people with highest quality online education.

All the best,

As a followup, I wonder if WUaS might come under the care of SFFM, and in a sense become its asset (just a little online multi-lingual university), somewhat like SFFM's Food Pantry, serving meals to the homeless and poor, or even the Rausch Street Property and then explore the possibility of borrowing like the Rausch Street property did, toward the following revenue streams:

- an online bookstore / computer store for text- and course books, and learning resources, planned for all 7,932+ languages;

- fundraising from individuals, foundations, companies and governments plus, both in the U.S. and internationally;
- collaboration financially with governments in all 242+ countries in main languages in them, for free (since CC) and best STEM OCW-centric, such as CC MIT OCW in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC University (Bachelor, Ph.D. Law, M.D., and I.B.), and high school, degrees - e.g. get on governments'"education budget lines."

- an Academic Press - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Academic_Press_at_World_University_and_School- as well as academic journals planned for many of all 7,932+ languages.

These above are the 4 main areas of revenue which WUaS is planning, also in the strategy section of WUaS's gold label Guidestar listing, with much other WUaS financial information:

Friendly regards,
Scott

Hi A,

In terms of target students, I hope Quaker high school students, for one, will benefit around the world with CC free best STEM--centric education (e.g. CC MIT OCW in 7 languages and Yale OYC) and degrees at Friendly-informed CC WUaS.

And in terms of the dollar value of a WUaS education, compared with a MIT or Stanford education at $40,000 a year for tuition alone, WUaS will be a far reaching opportunity.

And edX is a good open platform information technologically for course's for comparison's sake. Might CC WUaS, CC MIT OCW, CC Yale OYC and edX all collaborate?

Friendly greetings,
Scott
