California Oaks: Quaker Meeting in a Google group video Hangout, Nontheist Friends, Meditating Together with Friends (atheist Quakers too) and vis-a-vis World University and School, List of online Quaker Meetings

Dear Nontheist Friends/Quakers,

I'm writing to explore developing an online NtF Quaker Meeting in a Google group video Hangout, first as a kind of experiment in truth, - and especially as a NtF Friendly leading.

Nontheist Quakers in Wikipedia -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nontheist_Quakers

Nontheist Friends (atheist Quakers) -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Nontheist_Friends_(atheist_Quakers%3F)

I'm also curious to contribute to facilitating and developing a language for Nontheist Friendly Quaker Meeting itself, and perhaps coming into Quakerly conversation with the online Quaker Meetings in this blog post below ... as we NtFs have so fulsomely over these many years.

I'd like to hold the first Meeting line next Sunday, August 16th, at 8am PDT (California time), which is 11am Eastern Daylight Time, and 4pm - tea time - in the British Isles and Scotland, for example, for about 30 minutes. (See, too - http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html).

If you're interested in participating, I think Google group video Hangouts work better if you add people back, so please add me on here -
https://plus.google.com/u/0/+ScottMacLeodRainbow/posts - and I'll add you back.

I may eventually initiate this from this G+ Profile page as well - https://plus.google.com/u/0/+MeetingWorldUniversityFriends/posts - so please add this as well.

I've posted some information about other online Quaker Meetings in this blog post -
http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/08/california-oaks-quaker-meeting-in.html.

Would you like to join in this? (Please let me know if you'd like assistance with Google group video Hangouts beforehand as well).

Friendly regards,
Scott

Ants and Koh!
How nice to hear from you, and looking forward to getting together sometime soon-ish perhaps. Decided at the last minute not to head into SF yesterday, somewhat uncharacteristically (since I usually meditate in Quaker Meeting near Japan Center in SF).

A Japanese Festival in SF yesterday!

Perhaps when you've tied your hair in a bun, and are attending a Japanese Music festival sometime, we could also meet online in Google group video Hangouts in our smartphones and vis-a-vis Japan World University and School -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Japan - and eventually even in Japanese
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Japanese (but which isn't yet in Japanese) ... I haven't found any MIT OpenCourseWare in the Japanese language for one.

And thanks for your best wishes endeavour-wise here ... just about to explore playing a tune or two daily my Scottish Small Pipes in video to post to this G+ Profile page ...
https://plus.google.com/u/0/+ScottMacLeodMusic/posts ... and to further online music-making eventually in real, real time in group video, and online in the World University Music School ... http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University_Music_School ...

Please remember, Ants, that Italy World University and School
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Italy is yours for the taking / developing ... and especially in Italian ... http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Italian_language - as is Japan WUAS. Let's stay in touch about this in particular, President Ants, and President Koh! :)

Kind regards,
Scott

Hi Ants and Koh,

Just played my Scottish Small Pipes here

and also posted this to my G+ Profile Music page here -

To further online music-making eventually in real, real time in group video, and online in the World University Music School ...

Hi Quim (and Lydia and Markus),

Very nice to Skype with you, Quim, last Saturday, August 1, for about 30 minutes in Europe, about CC World University and School, and eventually accessing CC Wikidata in many many languages, as well as about the Wikimedia project you're heading up - "Wiki Loves Open Data." It sounds from our conversation that you don't think "Wiki Loves Open Data" is the right fit for the project wiki CC World University and School is planning.

As we talked about, World University is seeking a Wikidata volunteer team for a Knight Foundation Prototype Fund grant due by Monday, August 17th.

In WUaS's applying to the Knight Foundation to their Prototype Fund, we'd like to try to coordinate with another organization, Wikimedia, - which you also said is funded by the same Knight Foundation.

In seeking to develop CC WUaS's Knight Foundation grant application further with planning to develop in CC Wikidata, and in seeking a programmer's name or two as a Wikidata volunteer team, could WUaS possibly develop a small nation-states-specific pilot program - for example, in the Netherlands World University and School and in Dutch (about which there is a recent thread on the Wikidata email list) - e.g. with databases specific-to-this-country, - and, for example, with 2 other countries (e.g. English and the USA and Spanish and Spain, or even Swedish and Sweden)?

As we touched on, CC World University and School seeks eventually to be a growth story for the internet, and especially for Wikipedia, Wikidata, Creative Commons' and online accrediting CC education, such as CC MIT OCW and CC Yale OYC, and planning university degrees' accreditation in all countries' main languages (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Nation_States and http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Languages), and with wiki schools in all 7,929+ languages. And WUaS also seeks to develop an all-languages' Universal Translator (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/WUaS_Universal_Translator) and develop in significant ways over the decades with Artificial Intelligence.

Thank you again for our Skype conversation, and looking forward to further communication about this.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Scott

Hi Carl (and Juan and Larry),

Here's some further baby step World University information technology history:

Have you glanced at the main SUBJECT TEMPLATE - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/SUBJECT_TEMPLATE - which is the basis for most of the 720 wiki "schools" at World University, and Information Technology-wise. Wikidata is a database and and this SUBJECT_TEMPLATE in Wikidata will allow anyone to add databases to WUaS's "schools" and integrate them into WIkidata. Wikidata will interface with something like the following MediaWiki "front end" (which is currently offline because it's buggy) - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/mediawiki-1.24.1/index.php?title=Main_Page (and which is accessible here http://worlduniversityandschool.org/).

It's particularly in these following sections on each WUaS TEMPLATE page which we'd like to build fully into Wikidata ...

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/SUBJECT_TEMPLATE#Q_item_in_Wikidata

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/SUBJECT_TEMPLATE#Select_Wikidata_Queries

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/SUBJECT_TEMPLATE#Wikimedia_Commons

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/SUBJECT_TEMPLATE#Wikipedia

... and the few other wiki sections here you'll see in the SUBJECT TEMPLATE.

While I'm unfamiliar with the structure of databases, but having generated all of the WUaS wiki-pages thus far over about 8 years, I'd like to work with a Wikidata volunteer team to move the current WUaS wiki in WIKIA into WIKIDATA using these TEMPLATES as a basis for each school or university -

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/LANGUAGE_TEMPLATE

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/LIBRARY_TEMPLATE

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/NATION_STATE_TEMPLATE

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/SUBJECT_TEMPLATE

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/MUSEUM_TEMPLATE

The implications of building with these are great, because these each will be in all 7,929 languages and expand; Wikipedia again is in 288 languages and the Wikidata database was written for these - and these will hopfeully facilitate a wiki basis for universal education.

Each Library Resources' main page, for example, in each of 7,929+ languages (plus invented ones, dead languages, etc.) becomes a way to aggregate all online open free libraries and library databases in each language - and the Knight Foundation has a significant libraries' focus.

So the assumptions I / WUaS want(s) to test, in 200 words in the Knight Foundation grant, have to do with building the above altogether newly in Wikidata.

In the 'makers' world of the internet - given "Wikidata,""Wikibase," and "WUaS,""MIT OCW in 7 languages,""Wikipedia in 288 languages" so far - we'll seek to test the assumptions of, having built this, how to best generate robust wiki student bodies of makers - which we'll measure online through usage statistics (Wikipedia's and Wikidata's usage statistics are detailed).

Again the "baby step" realism of WUaS will give rise to the realism of a new "platform" integrating if you will the realism of "Wikidata,""Wikibase," and "WUaS,""MIT OCW in 7 languages,""Wikipedia in 288 languages" etc.

In your language, Carl, the Knight Foundation, which already funds, in part, the unrealism or fantasy of "Wikimedia,""Wikidata,""Wikibase,""Wikipedia in 288 languages" will fund the unrealism of WUaS's Prototype.

While the above hopefully is a new clarification for you, I'm getting into territory of repeating myself in these last sentences ...

I think the implications of your emails, Carl, is that the "young adults" of "Wikimedia,""Wikidata,""Wikibase,""Wikipedia in 288 languages" are all unreal - but I'm not sure you're understanding this, which I've said before in a number of ways. And again I have the sense that you're not understanding or haven't read, for example, the Google Impact Challenge grant | Bay Area with its budget, which can be extended. Remember, "Wikimedia,""Wikidata,""Wikibase,""Wikipedia in 288 languages" all have budgets too ...

Friendly greetings,
Scott

Thanks, Carl,

People-to-people Wiki-communication where we're all potentially teachers, in addition to MIT/Yale faculty, rewrites the idea of an university profoundly, as does plans of becoming accredited in 200 countries' main languages. Yay too for MIT OCW in 7 languages and Google + group video Hangouts for 10 people interactively and which can also broadcast to a million people with Q&A, for example.

Online WIKI "campuses" for real time interactive idea-sharing and rigorous research are a curious emergence of I.T. and WUaS.

Thanks,
Scott

Pendle Hill: Online non-theist Quaker un-programmed F/friends' Meetings, First one on August 16th in a Google group video Hangout, All are welcome, Emails with Oz

Hi Robin, Annette, Marie, Rosemary and NtFriends,

So glad to hear of your potential interest in an online non-theist Quaker un-programmed F/friends' Meetings.

Here's the public event invitation - https://plus.google.com/+ScottMacLeodRainbow/posts/Pn4eCRhsfrz .

And this is the nicest G+ events' page, but I don't think I can share it publicly yet ...

I've posted my initial email to all of you and some further information about other online Quaker Meetings in this blog post - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/08/california-oaks-quaker-meeting-in.html .

Rosemary, I'm planning to hold/facilitate this Nt Friends Meeting this August 16th at 8am PDT in a Google Hangout then head to the Friends' Meeting I regularly attend in SF soon after this.

Marie, you'll find my somewhat fulsome engagement with NtFs - particularly vis-a-vis NtF language and eliciting loving bliss neurophysiology in atheist Quaker ways, over the years, in these blog labels -
among other blog labels here
... and also in this Google group archive, and in any archives that precede this. Not entirely sure what you are meaning with your email.

Annette and Robin and friends, what are some potential weekend east coast (EDT) times that could work schedule-wise for you to meet for about 30 minutes in a Google group video Hangout for Nt Friends' Meeting explorations?

In terms of this NtF online Quaker Meeting, I see NtF language as a kind of musical score, metaphorically, that differs from un-programmed Quakers' musical scores in each individual Meeting, and, in an innovative way perhaps, am also interested in engaging/exploring the related un-programmed (improvisational?) musical scores of Grateful Dead and Raga concerts, for example, among other bliss-producing (for me) improvisational musical scores vis-a-vis Nt Friends' online Quaker Meetings ... at least in terms of what I think of as the de facto relaxation response or releasing action meditation that occurs in Friends' Meetings in widespread ways and the Quaker sharing in language which has lead, as I see it, to so much caring and sharing over the centuries. But I'd like to explore this in the form of sitting in silence together and sharing as moved as Friends seem to have done since the 1650s.

Hoping to explore this online in NtFriends' Meetings in, for example, Google group video Hangouts.

Friendly greetings,
Scott

Dear Friends Journal,

I'm posting below, and attaching a PDF for, a letter to the Friends Journal forum, with a due date of today.

Thank you!

Friendly greetings,
Scott

Dear Friends,

As a nontheistic f/Friend and a member of San Francisco Friends’ Meeting, I greatly appreciate Quaker vision and community and caring, as well as the centering and gathering of unprogrammed Quaker Meeting
with F/friends. My positive experiences with a) evolutionary biology (thinking about this as salutary, personal experience), and b) the, for me, parallel-with-Quaker-Meeting, ‘relaxation response meditation, as
biology’ in the Harbin Hot Springs’ warm pool (my actual anthropological field site for ethnographic books that I’m writing), inform my nontheistic Quakerism and move me toward nontheistically Friendly shared
seasoning. The notion of God -- for me among Quakers since the mid-1970s -- has never held much meaning, whatsoever, and I’m sympathetic, and find some unity, with the more than a decade-long active
conversation focusing on ‘nontheism’ on the nontheistic Friends’ email list, as well as in face-to-face NtF gatherings.

I continue to learn to experience centeredness and gathering while connecting inwardly in unprogrammed Quaker Meeting, and among Friends generally, in the light of nontheistic f/Friendliness - which I
personally think of and experience as f/Friendly biological 'relaxation response’ meditations. And it's particularly the enjoyable parallels between a) soaking in the Harbin warm pool, and b) sitting in Quaker
Meeting, in what I'm calling, again, their "de facto 'relaxation response’ meditations, biologically," that are significant for me and that I'll continue to enjoy exploring with Friends.

Os,

Thanks for your ever so skillful edits. I might have added the word 'neurophysiologically,' in lieu of one 'biologically,' a theme, and focus of inquiry, I'm exploring vis-a-vis Quaker Meeting, omega 3s, the Harbin
warm pool and especially MDMA, and in many other ways, but am happy there's a chance this may get published in FJ.

I hope your 'poetry' does as well.

Hi Os,

Thanks. I have fond memories of taking MDMA about 4-5 times in around 1981 - the neurochemistry and biology of intense love - but also of an intensity in my jaws toward the end of each journey (on the beautiful, Reed campus, not a rehab center), which might have made me a little wary of it ... but remarkable and even wondrous experiences, nevertheless, in hindsight ... and due to molecules in conjunction with individuals' neurobiologies, but possibly with a similar effect for all, in terms of affective euphoria, love and ecstasy, for 75% of those who take it ... I suspect I could learn more from such neurochemistry
journeying, but have stayed away from that and alcohol, too, basically, for more than 30 years.

As you may glean, biology and neurophysiology are significant to my thinking, especially about love and meditation, and other aspects I might also think of a cultural (or even countercultural, perhaps) - but love or meditation, for example, do not seem that considered in Quakerly / Friendly culture/discourse/language in terms of biology and neurophysiology, - perhaps due to the specific religious culture or Quakerism, as it unfolds through the centuries.

Concerning FJ and submitting to them, the form that Martin and Friends Journal asked me to fill out also asked whether my writing had been published anywhere else, and my letter was, in a sense, through sharing versions of it in the NTF email lists, which I wrote on the form, ... but I have also posted two different versions of it to my personal blog, which I didn't say. Shall I take these versions down, I wonder? I'm posting Martin's email below, for information's sake, about possible publication timing, which letter you possibly also received.

How exciting to both author and publish a nontheist Friends' book - yours - and as a scientist, and to have it up and available for purchase online already! You are a focused and skillful writer! The cover is beautiful, too ... I haven't yet been to MonteVerde, but would love to go. How was dropping in to the Quaker world there for 20 years for you? I almost just added your new book as reference to both the 'Nontheist Friends (atheist Quakers?)', as well as the 'Quakers' wiki subject page at World University and School (here - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Nontheist_Friends_(atheist_Quakers%3F) - and here -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Quakers_-_Religious_Society_of_Friends ) but thought I would wait to ask you if it would be ok to do so, especially since these wiki pages for open teaching and learning aren't yet that active (so they wouldn't necessarily help get the word out that much). I look forward to looking through it! Have you thought of creating a 3 minute Youtube video, or similar, characterizing it, by simply talking to your web camera for free, and posting it? I think that might help it to reach another potentially interested audience. It's very exciting to give birth to so many aspects of a book :) I'm so glad your thinking through science from a NtF Quaker perspective. (After looking through it a little, I also wondered whether I might add it to WUaS's 'Philosophy of Science,' wiki, subject page ). I'm curious to see too how online, public, Quaker Libraries take shape relative to larger endeavors like DPLA and Europeana - the latter accessible here at WUaS Library Resources ... http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Library_Resources ...
while some former - e.g. Earlham, Haverford, Swarthmore, and Bryn Mawr's beginnings - are accessible on the above Quaker wiki page - and how this will effect Quaker book selling (I worked in the Pendle Hill Bookstore for some years ... might be worth contacting a bunch of Quaker bookshops), - and especially for QaNT :)

I enjoy your writings in general, as well, and look forward to seeing how you begin to introduce this book to Quaker bookstores, for example, - and vis-a-vis my first, Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic book, which I hope will be published within the year (with the making of the virtual Harbin the focus of a second, ethnographic volume).

Nice to be communicating, and thanks for your ongoing NtF creativity :)
Scott

Scott,
Several points lead me to respond, so I'll quote you...

but have stayed away from that and alcohol, too, basically, for more than 30 years.
That's a major relief to read. Wise choice. Bobby Fisher was asked if he had tried brain altering chemicals and he said his neurobehavioral accommodation was such a delicate one, and so important to him, that he would never assault it that way. I took acid or mushrooms about six times over a period of many years, never more because it was an obviously dangerous jolt. Stayed away from cocaine and heroin because I knew it would be a temptation the rest of my life (I pick up habits easily), and I avoid all but a little alcohol because it makes me sick. However THC was a good friend for about 30 years, but finally it was clearly disturbing my performing at peak level (not just while racing to the bottom of the baggie, but a week or more anticipating that and the same pulling my behavioral horses back into their traces). Tho an addict of THC consumption when available I was not an addict of shopping for it and so it was a manageable issue. I'm happy to still be an addict but not a user these last 19yrs 4mo 6da 20hrs.
the form that Martin and Friends Journal asked me to fill out also asked whether my writing had been published anywhere else, and my letter was, in a sense, through sharing versions of it in the NTF email lists, which I wrote on the form, ... but I have also posted two different versions of it to my personal blog, which I didn't say. Shall I take these versions down, I wonder?
My guess is that email lists, like letters we mail each other, are private correspondence. Some blogs function as private messages circulated among friends (tho technically open to the public) and some are similar to online newspapers. I assume your blog is the former until there is clear evidence it is something much bigger. As a courtesy, and to avoid possible confusion, I would avoid pre-publication posting on your blog. Afterwards, I do not publish online something of mine that FJ has published for six months or a year. I think they ask authors of articles if we wish to retain the copyright (and I said yes), but I don't think that is done with letters. Later, when I post online or re-publish any of my writings from their pages I ask them if it would be O.K. to do it with a note like this: "Published in Friends Journal, July 2009, 55(7), 5. © Friends Publishing Corporation. Reprinted with permission. To subscribe, see: www.friendsjournal.org" They have always immediately replied yes.

How was dropping in to the Quaker world there for 20 years for you?
That's like asking "how was it being married 20 years?" Monteverde was extraordinary, complex, sometimes too much. In ways, like camping in a mindblowing setting (for 20 years), or like spending years on a journey to the east in Marco Polo's time. Now, being 72, I like living where things work. Recent pictures are atwww.picasaweb.google.com/oscresson
I almost just added your new book as reference to ... but thought I would wait to ask you if it would be ok to do so
Good call. Don't tell anyone until we can also say/write that they can buy it from QuakerBooks. I imagine they will be quick to decide. When you read about it on our list and website, then go ahead.
Have you thought of creating a 3 minute Youtube video, or similar, characterizing it, by simply talking to your web camera for free, and posting it?
No way, Scottay. My preference is to have no contact with other people and I only make exceptions to help special projects through writing or, ugh, in person. No video, but posted announcements will be fine after QuakerBooks acts.
I'm so glad you're thinking through science from a NtF Quaker perspective.
It staggers me to see new age anti-science so prominent in QEW, the only U. S. Quaker science related organization. Addressing that has been a multi-year project and is ongoing (sigh). Science has been my love as long as I can remember (specifically since the age of six or seven). For those who care, it's important that my assertions are not about the universe but about our methods of studying the universe (e.g. our methods are wholly deterministic, but I do not need to go further and say whether the universe is wholly deterministic.) This is the "methodological naturalism" of Quaker philosopher and biologist Robert T. Pennock (an interesting person I need to meet some day) and the philosophy of science of B. F. Skinner (who I met and studied, and whose closest colleagues I worked and studied with for many years).
Nice to be communicating, and thanks for your ongoing NtF creativity :)

Hi Os,

Thanks for your great email below. And I'm glad you're focusing well the upcoming NtF book so capably, - and with a Friendly, connected understanding of so many people and their interests on the NtF email lists.

Perhaps when I'm up in Oregon on the coast sometime, naturally  ... great learning possibilities, as well as explorations of love, care and loving bliss can unfold, :) ...in ways that move across thresholds of boundedness ... I enjoy visiting Multnomah Monthly Meeting in Portland again and again.

I'm skeptical that Friends Journal will publish my brief letter to its Forum, due to what I perceive as a kind of closing of the Quaker mind and even vis-a-vis QMeeting-informed-explorations ... but thanks for your great editorial suggestions!

I'd love to visit Monteverde at some point, and possibly linger there for awhile, but I'm even more interested in dropping in around the world visiting UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as well as alighting at Quaker Meetings all over (and perhaps also to let Friends know of free, MIT, CC WUaS). Your photos are so great ... nice to go there 'virtually' ... is that your son in some of them?

Quakers and science have so many potentially interesting articulations, but somehow this gets lost in QMeetings' process through time . Would you like to be the initial science publisher at World University and School Press - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Academic_Press_at_World_University_and_School#World_University_and_School_Links - vis-a-vis MIT OCW ... http://ocw.mit.edu/index.htm - and WUaS's STEM focus ... http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/STEM_Education_-_Science,_Technologies,_Engineering_and_Mathematics#World_University_and_School_Links - and to help get the WUaS Press up and running? WUaS would like to become the MIT / Harvard / Haverford / Swarthmore / Cambridge / Oxford of the internet, and pay salaries, accordingly, but WUaS needs help becoming financially operational.

In a related vein, in my blog post today, I was wondering about how specific Societies might adopt and develop specific wiki subject pages at WUaS, eg Nontheist Friends or the American Chemical Society -

"Beach Sheoak - casuarina equisetifolia: Different Societies to adopt specific WUaS, wiki, subject pages, - that are becoming schools? For example, the Nontheist Friends' (atheist Quakers?) wiki subject page at WUaS, an open school in the making, might be flourishingly adopted by the Nontheist Friends' group, Similarly the MIT OCW-centric, Chemistry, wiki, subject page might readily be adopted, for example by American Chemical Society, which has a significant education focus, ... even as WUaS seeks to develop further collaboration with MIT, especially as WUaS grows into all 7,105 languages and 242 countries, Similarly with Physics, Biology, Mathematics, plus ..." ... http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2014/03/beach-sheoak-casuarina-equisetifolia.html

- as a form of organization. MIT OCW-centricity and seeking Friendly high achievers for free, online university are remarkable openings and potential leadings.

May I add as QaNT reference your book to WUaS's NtF page now that you've announced it on the list ... http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Nontheist_Friends_(atheist_Quakers%3F) ?

I'm heading in three main directions these days (in addition to wanting to begin a family ... with AEW or similar? ... 2-3 kids) ... namely: WUaS, my actual/virtual Harbin book project, and Piping / music (keyboard) ... informed by exploring how to generate loving biss neurophysiology naturally ...

Still looking for ways to grow WUaS significantly ... here's a possibly very relevant set of ideas I came across today in the LinkedIn social networking site from a fundraising group mailing -
http://thefbooksite.com/2014/02/03/how-to-start-a-movement/ ... I like the video especially ... it's only actually 3 minutes long, and I posted this video a few years ago to my blog, as a great (and positive) example of a meme (replicating, cultural unit, as a first definition only).

Os ... very nice to be communicating with you :)

Friendly sympathies,
Scott

Hi Scott,
Have you spoken with members of Multnomah Meeting about their current relations with members of Redwood Friends Church? The joint worship sharing group they had that Margery Post Abbott described in Pendle Hill pamphlet #323 is one of the only ones I know of. We have just begun such a process here in eastern Iowa.
As to Monteverde, there is a meeting and a Friends school there ( http://mfschool.org/ and http://vimeo.com/64059061 ), and another fine bilingual school, the Creative Learning Center ( aka Cloud Forest School http://cloudforestschool.org/ ). The pictures show my great-nephew and others show his sister. The older pictures show two girls, and their Costa Rican relatives, for whom I was a temporary but important foster father about 15 to 20 years ago.
Thank you for thinking of me regarding the World University activities. Right now I am trying to do less, not more. There are many worthy efforts that have to get along without the (mixed) blessing of our participation. You certainly have caught a wave. I just saw that Coursera has over 7 million students!! That's phenomenal. Thirty and more years ago behavioral psychologists developed courses that emphasized practices similar to ones I read about today: arranging it so that students go through at various rates all reaching high performance (instead of what is thought to be right and necessary: going through at one rate and reaching various levels of performance); use of written material to pass along critical information rather than relying on everyone being present and listening and taking notes during lectures supposedly appropriate to the needs of everyone in the room (the etiology of "lecture" shows what a primitive word and concept it is: it dates from the days before printing when the way you got the course text was to go to a "lectura" which was the professor reading from his notes; in Spanish today "lectura" means "reading"); exams when each student is ready rather than when the prof says its time for everyone; relying on motivation derived from the usefulness of the material rather than the threat of grades, and so on. There was even a university in Monterrey Mexico that adopted this approach in its entire curriculum (I think it is the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Education, which now has a related project: NROC,
http://www.montereyinstitute.org/ ).
Now what is this line about: "(in addition to wanting to begin a family ... with AEW or similar? ... 2-3 kids)". Who or what is AEW!?
Os

Hi Os,

I'll explore talking with Marge about some of this. I can't make the Reed reunion this year in June after all, although I signed up for a free room in time, due to piping for a wedding at Grace Cathedral in SF, so I may have to call the Abbotts (and Reed, too!:). I'll look for the pamphlet tomorrow at SFFM. Reed College is right across the street from Reedwood Friends' Church, as you may know.

Thanks for the video and great Friendly-related educational links that I'll look to add to related WUaS wiki pages, and beginning, online schools and universities, for example, here - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Quakers_-_Religious_Society_of_Friends - and here - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Mexico - plus.

There are a lot of flourishing online educational projects these days. I think WUaS's MIT OCW- and great universities-centricity, as well as our all-languages and all-countries, wiki schools for open, online teaching and learning, as well as accredited universities for free, C.C. degrees in large languages/countries, will distinguish us, and perhaps attract the highest achieving and thinking/thoughtful (hopefully f/Friendly, as well) students, - in the world. Free and MIT in all languages opens great possibilities for learners and students, - and open wiki schools can help to generate much creativity in teaching and learning.

Amy Whittle (or similar), with whom I've corresponded only a little 5 years ago, and who, at that time, invited me up to Lake Tahoe, but later called meeting off, in an email is who AEW refers to. I see a 'soul' / personality in photos I potentially would like to be with for a long time, and perhaps with whom to have children. You can see a picture of her here, for example -
http://www.aapca1.org/storage/april-2014/April%20Web%20version%202-12-14%20Final.pdf - but I'm awaiting an invitation or similar to say hi face-to-face, - or to meet someone else who might be
(co-)inspiring.

You seem inspired (and are inspiring in a f/Friendly way) in your NtF and Quakerly engagements and writings ... I hope you can find a degree of measure with such Friendliness with all your good ideas.

Dear Fred, and friends of my Harbin book publishing,

I'm interested in exploring publishing my actual-virtual Harbin manuscript vis-a-vis this Google Books' video -
https://www.google.com/googlebooks/partners/ - and web page, which says Google Books will be back soon. But Google Books has been "down" for about 2-3 months or so.
I'm curious to explore possibly publishing through Google Books, since the realistic interactive 3D virtual Harbin I hope to write about for my 2nd Harbin ethnographic book may find partial form in Google Earth.

I think Google Books would allow me to reach a more general audience (worldwide) than a specific publisher of sociocultural anthropological books, such as Berghahn Books. And publishing with Google Books could dovetail with both a) a WUaS Academic Press in all 7,929+ languages, b) an universal translator in same languages, and c) a virtual Earth/Harbin as unfolding wiki book.

See, for example - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/07/jerdons-courser-visit-harbin-gate-now.html.

(Might Google Earth somehow take on the form of a new kind of wiki-book even in the future?)

I'm curious for Google Books to be working again soon, and to explore what's possible there.

In the meantime, I'm looking for other publishers ...

Thanks,
Scott

Conversation about piano learning, Theorizing and thinking about learning, Enjoyableness is key for me

***

Hi Scott:
I was thinking about our music-making session and you at the keyboard.  I did not feel I really responded to your question as we were in the midst of playing.  A while back, you asked if I would give you piano ideas.  I'm still happy to and have been thinking of some ways..  Would you like to continue with that, or do you prefer to continue on your own?  I say that as in fiddle club, folks oft do not want others' input.
I read the Yoyo Ma practice suggestions from the link you sent yesterday.  I resonate with most of what he says and note that the first one is 'seek private instruction'.  Myself, I feel that this is key to playing with freedom.  I"ve had lots of private lessons on piano and quite a bit on violin - and hopefully am not done.  I see all the work you have put into the pipes.  It's most impressive, so I can't help intuiting that you likely agree.
Anyhoo, let me know if we should do some piano together with you in mind.  It's good for me too as I've always been interested in teaching and am open to new ways to do this.  Keeping in mind of course that I'm moving into new areas with paino, myself.
All for now,
Barb

Guidelines for Practicing a Musical Instrument
By Wynton Marsalis and Yo-Yo Ma

http://scottmacleod.com/GuidelinesPracticingMusicalInstrument.htm

*

Hi Barb,

Thanks ... successful instruction is an interesting process as a learner (as well as thinking through what this is)... yes, I'd like to take piano lessons and probably engaging the structure of and coming into conversation with Tricia Woods' blues piano book, Vols 1-3,  even (because I like playing the blues - another lyricality thing)  but socially (and with SCD piano playing in the back of my mind as well) ... but ... so won't entertain the idea of lessons for awhile.

I'm also seeking instruction musically that works in the very moment that I'm asking the question with understanding (and not with a kind of "authoritarianism" without understanding for the learner which often seems part of instructing).

The daily (*social) very enjoyable lesson if feasible has much appeal. (And the web increases feasibleness in many ways).

Let's talk further about this with time.

Hi Scott:

Well, your reply is more heady than I was expecting -  but plenty of food for thought in your comments.  My offer was really just a heartfelt offer - no monetary exchange.  I thought it would be just a once in a while thing for brief moments (e.g. before we all play together)  a something to work with for you to add to whatever else you do.  I do hope you do not think I would be authoritarian, that sounds dreadful!  I agree it is nice to ask questions in the moment, however, in practical life, that is not always available to us.  I know at camps, I've oft had to note my questions and think about who to ask later on.  I think many styles of interactive learning can serve us.  You seem to be so familiar with internet learning.  It's still new for me.  I'm open to it but not familiar with it yet as you are.
I'll take a look at Tricia's blues books as I don't know them but might like them myself.  I'm trying to learn new ways of playing and approaching learning myself.  Right now, I'm just experimenting with playing and learning in different ways on my own.  It's been fun.
Ok, we can continue with time.

*
Hi Barb,
Thanks for your thoughtful and engaging reply.
Co-lessoning is a novel idea vis-a-vis RC (Re-evaluation Counseling) even ... but how best to explore this so it's generative and even conveyed through the music-making itself ... ?
A regular internet music playing space might allow for such co-lessoning as question-asking and answering in more frequent ways than once a week.
Here's a blog post about Music Playing Spaces - with an internet video - from a few years ago ... http://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2012/06/music-playing-spaces-on-wednesdays-and.html ... but I'll explore asking some questions of you occasionally when we making music together if I may.

Music Playing Space 1 December 2012

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LX79AzS-c4Q

A first question of mine ...
How do I get both my hands going - playing - rhythmically - so probably slowly -  but very simply so that it provides a basis for further development of two-handed playing with other instruments, say in the context of Monday evening SCD? It's possible in the waltzes etc but I can't build this basic two hand rhythmic basis with the faster music yet ... so much so that developments haven't occurred .. but I could if I learned how ... say with 1 finger on each hand even, so very simply :)
What I like about SCD on Mondays playing base lines ... is that it happens so easily ... but it hasn't otherwise for me in almost 3 years surprisingly become the basis for two handed rhythmic playing with all of you for example ... so ...

How do I get both my hands going - playing - rhythmically - so probably slowly -  but very simply so that it provides a basis for further development of two-handed playing with other instruments, say in the context of Monday evening SCD?

One answer is kind of in Yo-yo Ma's Guidelines -

Looking forward to finding a key to unlock this puzzle :)

And looking further to communicating further about this with time :)
Cheers,
Scott

Hi Barb,
Interesting that Marsalis and Ma say this:

"5 Relax and practice slowly.

6 Practice hard parts longer"

(here - http://scottmacleod.com/GuidelinesPracticingMusicalInstrument.htm)
and not "Play hard parts slowly" - which I had thought they meant ...
I also have ambivalence to practicing in general which is why great lessons and these guidelines are great.

On with recording my piping tune today (https://plus.google.com/u/0/+ScottMacLeodMusic/posts) ... and perhaps I'll get into recording a piano tune eventually for daily play and focus ... :)

Musical cheers,
Scott

Very cool and for a virtual Harbin and from our bathtubs even -

and for ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy and even meditation.

Such a Head-mounted Display with smartphone could also be a "meeting place" for Non-theist Friends' Quaker Meeting (Quaker Meeting in the manner of un-programmed Friends), which I think of as meditation with sharing ... and I'd explore this from my bathtub for deepening the releasing action or centering of Quaker Meeting.

I had a vision in the Harbin warm pool this morning - of combining the virtual earth of Google Maps / Google Earth with Google group video Hangouts with 10 live people speaking and interacting together IN Google Earth and even in a virtual Harbin Hot Springs' warm pool ... kinda great.

I'd guess that Google folks have already envisioned this and the infrastructure code could even be written for this at Google but I'd also like to explore it for

a) ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy,
b) soaking in the Harbin warm pool virtually, and
c) NtF un-programmed Quaker Meeting, and from my bathtub even, virtually
d) even "entering into" Grateful Dead videos virtually, for example

Could we also enter into, for example, a 1960's Grateful Dead concert video in Google Earth with a modified Google group video Hangout and be there?

Hi Chas,

Looking forward to talking with you after Meeting tomorrow, and thank you!

In general, my questions are 5:

1) How best to publish my Harbin manuscript to paper, and also via Google Books and Google Library project, for example online
 (more about these here -

2 What's the structure of a publisher like Inner Light Books (http://innerlightbooks.com/) vis-a-vis our startup WUaS Academic Press?

3) What's the financial structure like of a publisher such as Inner Light Books ?
Fixed costs to print a book? How many in first run?
For authors?
Editors?
Distributors?
Retailers? Plus ...

4) What are best steps for scaling bigger in your experience - eg working with multiple editors, graduate students as editors, +?

5) How could WUaS be of help to Inner Light Books ?

WUaS is seeking to become a kind of great multilingual Academic Press in the sense of esp. the Grateful Dead.

Thank you!
Scott

World University and School’s Business Plan Update (and with calendar in development)

http://worlduniversityandschool.org

https://www.guidestar.org/organizations/27-3105368/world-university-school.aspx

- Mission statement

The mission of World University and School is to facilitate all levels of teaching and learning through open, editable wikis. WUaS plans to do this at the university and high school levels. WUaS’s wiki will involve open and editable teaching and learning but also non-editable courses prepared under a Creative Commons’ license. WUaS will facilitate the use of such free CC courses as credits toward degrees. Due to the rapid spread of broadband worldwide, WUaS plans to make this accessible to underserved parts of the world and to poor people everywhere. WUaS will explore the possibility of using universal translators to extend the project automatically to any language with time.

- Why World University and School and WUaS’s team?

World University and School’s team’s international focus makes possible WUaS’s plan to offer accredited, Creative Commons’ licensed, free, best STEM-centric, online, university degrees (e.g. C.C. MIT OCW in 7 languages and C.C. Yale OYC) in many languages and countries: Bachelor, Ph.D., law, and M.D., as well as I.B. high school diplomas. WUaS’s team’s international focus also facilitates open wiki-schools, for people-to-people teaching in all 7,941+ languages and 242+ countries.

- Why should we believe WUaS? (i.e. what is your track record)

World University and School incorporated in 2010 as an educational organization in California, and received federal, 501 (c) (3) tax exempt status in 2011, and has approximately 700 wiki, subject pages. Accreditation, first in California and with BPPE and potentially with WASC senior in its new “incubation policy.” WUaS has a long track record of institutionalizing as an online, startup, best STEM OCW-centric university, and long term goals and plans.

- Why WUaS?

WUaS will benefit a lot of people with free, best, C.C. STEM-centric, online, university degrees, planned in most countries’ main languages, as well as with schools in all languages. Since these schools, universities and degrees are Creative Commons’ licensed, they will be free, particularly benefitting the poor as they get mobile computers. WUaS also has a specific educational focus to provide free, online education in the developing world.

- How and why WUaS will run its business: from infrastructure, to customer relationship, to maintenance.

WUaS develops wiki pages are the platform, and WUaS will move to the new Wikidata repository (being written for Wikipedia’s 288 languages). WUaS aggregates great universities’ OpenCourseWare, such as C.C. MIT OCW and C.C. Yale OYC, and eventually in all languages and countries. WUaS plans to accredit on these Creative Commons’ licensed resources, in all 200+ countries.

WUaS information technology department will do I.T. maintenance and handle related Wiki and I.T. developments, planned for all languages.

As a startup, online university, WUaS’s graduate student instructors will be one way WUaS develops relationships with customers, that is students. WUaS is also planning to hire technical support people, perhaps with office hours in a Google + Hangout.

WUaS uses monthly business meeting process in the manner of Quakers as its locus of decision-making, and will thus inform how WUaS runs its business.

- Financial analysis, from how much money you think you will make and how, to how much you will need to finance the business and whether you are looking to raise funds.

WUaS seeks to build a $20-$50 million dollar endowment as a 5 year target. Within 5 years, WUaS plans to acquire the endowment base necessary to sustain this business with 100,000  students and 2,000 instructors. ... $20-$50 mn ($1mn-$5mn revenue).

WUaS plans to raise funds from governments, universities, philanthropic foundations as well as individuals.

WUaS is also planning an online bookstore / computer store and in all languages and countries, for textbooks, intellectual resources, musical instruments for students at WUaS, with a plan to charge 2% less than the competition in various countries (probably on the order fulfillment side).

WUaS also is planning on-the-ground bookstores at some point in the future, perhaps near Apple Computer stores in cosmopolitan cities of learning around the globe.

- Market analysis looking at how big your market is and who your customers are.

Markets are numbers of people willing to spend the hours studying at best C.C. STEM-centric WUaS for free degrees.

WUaS’s market includes all countries and people in their main languages.

Since WUaS is free, Creative Commons’ licensed and accrediting, our current competition / peers include the free edX, Coursera and Udacity. But WUaS plans to become a Tier 1, online university, the MIT / Harvard of the internet, and remain Creative Commons’ licensed.

- How many people will WUaS hire, when do we need them, how many thousands of hours of instructors' time?

WUaS may eventually hire 100s of thousands of people. WUaS would benefit greatly with 5 interns this autumn 2015. In the autumn of 2016, and depending on the number of matriculated, undergraduate students, planning to take 36 MIT OCW-centric courses for an undergraduate degree, - ideally 2000 1st year students, first in English. WUaS would like to hire graduate students for 30 different undergraduate classes, each class having a maximum of 10 students per section.

- Implementation roadmap: how are you planning to grow in the future and the financial forecasts.

Core US pilot program Year 1 developed concurrently with a number of country -specific programs and focused on 30 initial C.C. MIT OCW Audio - Video courses -
http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/audio-video-courses/ - introductory courses, in Google + group video Hangouts - https://plus.google.com/hangouts.

-  Risk analysis to demonstrate you have considered risks and that you are prepared to tackle eventual challenges that may arise.

Market risk: Insufficient number of students - MODERATE

Operational risk: failure/lapses in delivery of courses to students - HIGH

Legal risks: reputation, non-delivery, Intellectual Property - LOW

Financial risks: liquidity, insolvency - MODERATE TO HIGH

WUaS doesn’t have plant, equipment, or brick and mortar costs.

- Revenue Sources

Hi Prasanna and Friends,
This "Online Program in Digital Marketing" you shared has special merit especially in a large variety of languages in India and around the world.

WUaS could draw from CC OpenCourseWare for this, focus on specific aspects of web - as our matriculated student bodies grow for free CC University degrees - and concurrently offer a certificate for a single course, if donors and governments could help finance this.

World University is beginning the process of accreditation for online CC Bachelor's degrees (e.g. CC MIT OCW-centric and 36 courses, with students first graduating in 2020), but could explore offering single certificate courses too!

13,700 Rupees' donation per student doesn't sound like it would be too much for donors and governments. WUaS plans to remain Creative Commons' licensed to draw on CC Yale OYC and CC MIT OCW in 7 languages, so we can't charge students.

Best regards,
Scott

Hi Ravi and Prasanna,
Thanks. In looking for "Digital Marketing" courses per your emails, I went to the Sloan School of Management at CC MIT OpenCourseWare - http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/sloan-school-of-management/ - but didn't find any undergraduate courses in "Digital Marketing." And CC World University is planning an undergraduate major in Business (where students will take 14 MIT OCW-centric courses in their major out of about 36 total courses over 4 years, graduating in 2020), first online in English.

This MIT OCW course however may come closest, however ...
Management Communication for Undergraduates -
http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/sloan-school-of-management/15-279-management-communication-for-undergraduates-spring-2005/
So I created a new wiki subject at World University and School - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Marketing - to which I added this course, and about 7 other MIT OCW graduate courses, mostly about Marketing Management, which I cross-linked with http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Business_Management

To offer a single semester course - as a World University and School course - that would teach digital marketing and give the skills to anyone taking the course, besides matriculated undergraduate students, would be World University and School's goal at the CC MIT OCW-centric and CC Yale OYC levels.
Then I searched in the Open Education Consortium - http://www.oeconsortium.org/courses/search/?search=marketing - and found this course by Rob Stokes - "eMarketing: The Essential Guide to Online Marketing" - which actually seems to be a textbook - http://www.amazon.com/eMarketing-essential-guide-marketing-digital-ebook/dp/B00I9FJENM - and a good start for a WUaS course ...

Stokes, Rob. 2014. [https://www.redandyellow.co.za/courses/textbook-digital/ DIGITAL MARKETING TEXTBOOK]. (5th edition). Quirk eMarketing (Pty) Ltd.

So the next step for WUaS would be in what ways we could further develop a Creative Commons' licensed course for our undergraduates beginning in autumn 2016 - and how would this articulate with the online course you shared for 13,700 Rupees - and what could WUAS matriculated or certificate students learn in a 17 week course that would be helpful and contribute to their degree and major?
Additionally what web skills would be helpful? I think Web Page production skills would be very helpful - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Web_Page_Design_and_Production - but wasn't able to cross link this page with the new WUaS Marketing page.

So the upshot is, let's not contact the "Digital Marketing" course you shared at this point on behalf of World University.
Thank you and looking forward to further communication.

Sincerely,
Scott

Hi Prasanna, Ravi and Friends,

I just found this Google Digital Marketing course for free -

http://www.google.com/onlinechallenge/dmc/
Since WUaS was Google-verified on May 8, 2015, I hope WUaS will offer this course as part of our CC undergraduate business degree (36 courses).

I've added this Google Course as well as our correspondence about a WUaS course here in my blog post from today -
http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/08/lily-pond-emarketing-and-wuas-best-stem.html
I've also added this Google course as well as other related resources (e.g. http://www.diygenius.com/10-free-online-courses-in-social-media-and-inbound-marketing/ and http://www.wordstream.com/blog/ws/2014/08/19/free-online-marketing-courses) to the Marketing wiki subject page at World University.

Google's role in shaping the internet and social media is for me important in defining a kind of MIT OCW-centric excellence, and their online resources are also very student- and learning-centric

Sincerely,
Scott

Loving and becoming tender ...

While there's a literature among Quakers about loving and becoming tender that goes back centuries - in Friends' journals and writings - I'm curious as an anthropologist how Friendly discourse or culture can generate love, care and tenderness - both among Quakers and more widely - and when it's also not there. Quakers aren't by any means solely focused on becoming tender as expressions of love and care, but softening in response to hardened positions is something that may emerge for Friends out of Quaker Meeting itself. For example, Friends' social witnesses in prison reform can raise tensions, as can witnessing to peace / non-harming, but Friends have also sought to open to these witnesses by learning from Quaker Meeting itself, and thus perhaps to become tender in the process, and in so doing perhaps seek to connect with others (who may not at first be tender or caring) to effect change.

I appreciate the distributedness, as well as fluidity, of Monthly Meetings among Friends - it's a very decentralized process which can lead to the emergence of new meetings - forms of troop bonding in an evolutionary sense, so connecting within a group - which can also open ways to becoming tender and loving, for example, when a Monthly Meeting has tensions or has gotten into some "hard" places.

While the language of love and becoming tender come out of Quaker history and trajectories in specific ways, and thus are a kind of generator as discourse (a good definition here for me of culture) already, it's partly the "meditation" (for me a kind of relaxation response) in Quaker Meeting itself, which facilitates this becoming tender in unfolding ways, as human primates who identify as Friends ... and this can also spread - meme-like (as replicating cultural units), and it's this too that is one kind of a generator of love and tenderness.

In seeking for these ways of becoming tender and loving to open in the ecology of human social life (and communicatively especially), I seek a kind of light through discernming to lead to such openings in connecting with people. (Urban life, cities, modernity can all, in my experience, influence kinds of hardenings, or lack of connecting communications, leading to the kinds of easing I'm writing about here).

In my ongoing interest in eliciting loving bliss neurophsyiology, however, for which there isn't an abundance of Quaker language, for example, or much other language in science or in other discourses that I'm aware of, it's exploring this Loving Bliss generation {and as biology}, in different languages eventually even - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Loving_Bliss_(eliciting_this_neurophysiology) - that is one approach to its further generation, which I think will help a lot of people if much better understood.

Here too is the "Caring and Loving" wiki subject page - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Caring_and_Loving - at World University for open teaching and learning and planned in many languages.

*

In what other ways will the universal! education of Friendly-informed World University and School - with STEM, enjoyment, excellence and careers' foci - also help facilitate becoming tender and loving, while also facilitating great learning in hopefully ever growing flourishing ways?

Trillium: Oxford Business School (Said), WUaS is Creative Commons' licensed-centric, Service Innovation Triangle (SIT) Model - and information-focused companies, CC WUaS will accredit on CC MIT OCW in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC in all nation states -http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Nation_States - if possible for free university degrees while also developing wiki schools in CC Wikipedia's new CC Wikidata database in all 7,900 + languages - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Languages - where Wikipedia is in 288 + languages and we all wrote it , Here are the current main business/revenue plans

0

Richard (at Oxford) and Peder,

Thanks very much for your very edifying ISSIP Service Innovation Triangle Model ISSIP presentation today.

The question I posted into the chat area is -

How does or would an explicit information-focused group of firms add to, or come into conversation with, your consumer-service-firm model?

As a specific case, I'm thinking in terms of Creative Commons' licensed World University and School, which is like CC Wikipedia in 288 languages with CC best STEM-centric OpenCourseWare (eg CC MIT OCW in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC) ... and also articulates with, for example, the free-mium information-oriented Google, - and World University was Google-verified in May 2015, so we'll also collaborate with Google, in addition to the other two companies above.

Besides WUaS' explicitly information-technology company focus, a) Creative Commons' licensing is another unique aspect of WUAS, as is b) wiki (group web page editing) WUaS vis-a-vis your model, as is being c) an online university planning to accredit in all countries' main languages, while also facilitating wiki-schools for open teaching and learning in all nearly 8,000 languages.

Will WUaS's a) CC licensing, b) Wiki, and c) (great OpenEducationalResource) university also enhance service innovations in unforeseen ways?

For example, would this explicit information focus also be able to offer greater-than-other information-oriented organizations measurable approaches to innovation in your model?

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Scott

*

Scott,

Thanks for your question – and sorry we did not get enough time to discuss online yesterday.

I think information-focused group of firms, such as the World University and School, fit well with the SIT model. In fact, we have modelled a number of them, such as Google. I think I mentioned that the model is not only to be used by consumer service firms; this is just the dominant logic in business today

If you participate in the WebEx in a couple of weeks, we’ll explain further how the model can be used and I think you will see the application to any firm, regardless of sector.

Happy to discuss further at the next WebEx.

Regards,
Richard.

Hi Richard,

Thanks. I think Creative Commons' licensing (CC) in contrast to copyright vis-a-vis information consumerism adds a new significant dimension to consumer service firms - and possibly in your model. CC is a new licensing arrangement for sharing information for free; see Creative_Commons_Law at WUaS

CC WUaS will accredit on CC MIT OCW in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC in all nation states -http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Nation_States - if possible for free university degrees while also developing wiki schools in CC Wikipedia's new CC Wikidata database in all 7,900 + languages - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Languages - where Wikipedia is in 288 + languages and we all wrote it.

Looking forward to your next ISSIP presentation in WebEx.

Regards,
Scott

Scott,

Headliners in this dept.--

No-cost, accredited degree-track credits

High-level STEM subject and liberal arts courses, taught online by professors of a major university,

Google hangouts available for student-student, student-instructor, student-administrator/counselor interactions (?)

Courses available in all or most of world languages (?)

Wide-spread availability to many of world's underserved populations, especially those prevented from access otherwise by limited resources, social or caste/gender hierarchies, and other forms of prejudice (?)

Competent academic & personal advisors available to deal with course-counseling, financial assistance questions and personal issues as they arise(?)

Question marks denote services that may not yet be active yet, but should be in the future.

Just add to & revise as appropriate.

Carl,

These are a great seven-ten things to talk about with possible donors to World University, which I'll add to only a little below ... per Paul Jolly's Jump Start Growth recent July 30, 2015 email "One of my clients has a list of ten (10) priorities to explain the agenda to donors." ...

And here again is the %10 Letter of Agreement for WUaS - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1s_GBHW0gC1LPSbKNgwZz0_F2WVec_OgcWVK0WNtdkO0/edit?usp=sharing - for expenses to you or other Universitians for fundraising.

1
No-cost, accrediting degree tracks (for planning purposes not transferable at this point)

2
High-level STEM subject and liberal arts' courses, taught online by professors of a major university (with CC MIT OCW in English only having approximately 150 courses in video in English currently and CC Yale OYC having 42 courses in video)

3
Google - group video - hangouts available for student-student, student-instructor, student-administrator/counselor interactions

4
Courses planned by WUaS in nearly all of the world's countries' main languages, and open wiki schools in all 7,929 languages

5
Planning very wide-spread availability to many of world's underserved populations, including broadband and potentially computers for the poorest, especially those prevented from access otherwise by limited resources, social or caste/gender hierarchies, and other forms of prejudice (?)

6
Competent academic & personal advisors available to deal with course-counseling, financial assistance questions and personal issues as they arise(?) - will probably be graduate students and possibly their university faculty in the very very beginning in most smaller/the smallest languages for degrees ...

open wiki schools in all 7929+ languages where anyone can teach or add great online teaching and learning for free

The other language here for donors that could work is: that giving to World University is like providing SCHOLARSHIPS for deserving students from poor backgrounds ... but this would need to be stated carefully since CC WUaS will be free - so everyone will be receiving a scholarship in a sense which doesn't really make donors' giving money like giving for actual scholarships ... so this idea is more a way of conversing with potential donors ...

Integrity of language will be important in fundraising and for building World University's reputation ... CC and free and best STEM-centric for these planned degrees - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Admissions_at_World_University_and_School#World_University_and_School_Links .

Scott:

There is no way to responsibly raise money for your concept alone!  You must have a clear, demonstrable and efficacious structure at a minimum with supporting documentation, previous fundraising successes (but how to get the first one?  That's a good question.), some actual personnel, and much of the beginnings I've already discussed with you.  Otherwise it's all a fantasy.  But go ahead!  Raise some money in your own way.  Get the Google Challenge Grant or anything like that!  Then I'll believe you, and I'll say, "You were right, Scott.  You can pull money off the 'net with just a neat idea!"

Carl,

Yep ... baby steps ...

Yet what you mention also already exist albeit in very limited ways ... and are not substantial enough to fund raise on substantially:

"supporting documentation" -
700+ wiki pages, 2 wikis, a main page, a Sign UP form, STEM CC MIT OCW in 7 languages, CC Yale OYC, CC Wikipedia in 288 languages, letters of incorporation, ByLaws, 501 c 3 status, Guidestar (https://www.guidestar.org/organizations/27-3105368/world-university-school.aspx)

"previous fundraising successes" -
a couple of $1000s each over the past 3 years +

"some actual personnel" -
a few core volunteers, such as myself, Larry ... you I'm glad to see ... a Board of Trustees, some 2000 folks on monthly email lists

Do you want to take on developing Guidestar's further fields -
https://www.guidestar.org/organizations/27-3105368/world-university-school.aspx - as part of furthering the documentation and planning side of things - with its much practical business foci?

With Friendly baby-steps,
Scott

North American river otter: Dear Quaker Institute for the Future Friends, QIF Publications at "Economics" and "Quakers"' WUaS, "Cooperatives" and "Ocean and Climate Change Management Plan," Mondragon and Finnish Team Academy Blog Posts

Dear QIF Friends,

Very nice to meet and share with you these past few days in Berkeley.

I've added the QIF publications - http://www.quakerinstitute.org/?page_id=5 - to World University and School's Quaker wiki subject page for open teaching and learning - "Quakers - Religious Society of Friends" - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Quakers_-_Religious_Society_of_Friends - if this is ok.

And since I've heard much talk about economics in QIF over the last few days, I've also added this collection of QIF pamphlets to the Economics' wiki subject page at World University -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Economics - with much CC MIT OpenCourseWare and CC Yale OYC (but will look further into this). It's these CC STEM courses and related that WUaS plans to accredit on first in California, and this Economics' wiki page is also a good example of an academic subject page at WUaS which could grow to 100s of pages, and into many countries' main languages for free CC university degrees - and Friendly-informed.

And here's the "Cooperatives" wiki subject page -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Cooperatives - at WUaS. Here, too, are two links to blog posts - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/04/senna-siamea-cooperatives-wiki-subject.html - and - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/05/cassia-genus-cooperatives-and-academic.html - of mine exploring focusing on creating Cooperatives by online matriculating students at World University and in collaboration with Team Academy Mondragon and Team Academy Finland too from some video conferences this spring with Mondragon and Finnish Team Academy representatives. You'll find them both linked to the Cooperatives' wiki page as well.

Lastly, here are the open World University teaching and learning resources I shared yesterday with L and S concerning the WUaS Ocean & Climate Management Plan wiki subject page -

and a related blog post resource on urgency vis-a-vis Global Climate Change -
http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/global%20climate%20change .

Friendly regards,
Scott
