Mohammad,

Thanks for your great talk and response. Here are the questions I posted and asked.

With regard to the focus of your talk - disparate data sources - how will data science move toward real, real time - for, for example, a) ensemble music making, and b) a realistic virtual earth e.g. for real, real time brain research at the 1) street view, 2) neuronal (cellular)  and 3) nano (atomic) levels? How will one increase speed, but also with regard to any given item, how will we move between very disparate data sources at very different scales? In your example with Warfarin, will some statistical approaches be faster than others, while retaining the robustness of your WHOLE system/model/example? In a holistic hypothetical  real virtual earth e.g. in a Google Street View/Maps/Earth with TIME SLIDER with OpenSimulator, conceptually, for example, with WIKIDATA (Wikipedia's 4 year old database developing for 358 languages), and at the street view, neuronal and nano levels - and retaining the holism - how can one increase acceleration?

I'm developing World University and School, which is like Wikipedia in 358 languages with CC MIT OCW in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC, accrediting on these to offer free CC online university and I.B. high school degrees planned in all countries' main languages, as well as facilitating wiki schools in all 7,943 languages.

Looking forward to staying in touch.

Best, Scott

b Active pathways within the whole of the system

Hi Daniel, Markus and Wikidatans,

Thanks for your interesting "modeling elevation with Wikidata" conversation.

Daniel, in a related vein and conceptually, how would you model elevation change over time (e.g. in a Google Street View/Maps/Earth with TIME SLIDER, conceptually, for example) with Wikidata, building on the example you've already shared?

For example if one wanted to use Wikidata to model the 9 levels or 46 sublevels of Troy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy) and when they were excavated and how (so a time horizon with a place horizon), how would one do so?

(On behalf of CC WUaS I'd like to explore facilitating doing this eventually in a realistic virtual earth, something like Google Street View/Maps/Earth with time slider with OPEN SIMULATOR, conceptually, and as a World Univ & Sch "classroom" and as a way, for example, for archaeologists and related scientists to add each of their own videos and photographic data, say, from all of their digs in 1910 of level X and contrast this with each of all of their own videos from level Y in 1958 (if digs were happening in these years) -https://radalma.wikispaces.com/file/view/troy-the-nine-periods-of-troy-cross-section-map.jpg/337471010/troy-the-nine-periods-of-troy-cross-section-map.jpg (e.g. https://radalma.wikispaces.com/Timeline+of+Troy) - with great STEM precision of time and place elevation, - and also in ANY language, so involving Wiktionary and translation?)

Would there be a wikidata Q-item for all 46 sub levels, for example?

Thank you.

Bests, Scott

You would use the "point in time" qualifier. We use this a lot with population data, see for instance <https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q64#P1082>.

> Would there be a wikidata Q-item for all 46 sub levels, for example?

That's a question of desirable modelling granularity. I would suppose that for troy, we would have one item per sub-level, since it's such a famous site. But we would probably not have every sub-level of every archeological excavation.

This is always a question of balance, and always a matter of debate.

Guidelines for practicing loving bliss vis-à-vis practicing a musical instrument

Articulating 12 Guidelines for Practicing a Musical Instrument (by Marsalis and Ma) with developing how to practice loving bliss
Friends,
Here are some practices to elicit loving bliss with which I'm beginning to articulate these 12 'how-to' guidelines below:). And here are what I think is love in some of its best senses. In the following ideas and explorations of how we might 'practice' loving bliss, as we would practice a musical instrument, I assume our bodyminds are like musical instruments. {Feel free to print, below, and add to this}. As I'm presently thinking about this, I'd love your thoughts about this ~ scott@scottmacleod.com.

INSPIRATION
~ Keep the vision of making {loving bliss} 'music' in mind
~ Make eliciting loving bliss, as practice, enjoyable (e.g. omega-3 fatty acids, 1000 mg flax seed oil with food, 3 times per day, plus a multivitamin, may be helpful biologically)

1 Seek out private instruction.
> ... for modeling and teaching qualities of loving bliss
> With whom?
> Might interactive media via the internet help give shape to this, without private instruction?
2 Write out a schedule, a plan with goals. (Choose pieces you enjoy playing – S.M.).
Yo-yo Ma says, never make a sound without hearing it first; hear it in your mind.
> Are there 'loving bliss' musical pieces?
> What are the skills of loving bliss?
> Develop techniques of loving bliss, such as 'tuning' {e.g. via the relaxation response},  expressiveness/
performativity, breathing, relaxing, eliciting, remembering
> Questions vis-a-vis 'flow: the psychology of optimal experience' - choose learning situations for this
> Reading and engaging 'loving bliss in its best senses'

3 Set goals to chart development.
> These qualities of brain neurophysiology, then those qualities of brain neurophysiology?
> Engage a teacher for this goal charting
> Use a technology (what machines exist now that measure, or provide biofeedback about, loving bliss?)
> Use language, as a kind of technology
> Use your own inner sense of loving bliss 'response,' and then build on this
> Synthesize arts like Watsu {water shiatsu} with loving bliss, to develop ways to chart development

4 Concentrate when you practice.
Yo-yo says join feelings into your music when you feel bad, to integrate your feelings with your mind and body.
> Use feelings to integrate you as a musical instrument when you feel bad, then ~>
> Relax into the relaxation response
> Elicit the 'bubbling up' biology (bodymind releasing and welcoming) of loving bliss neurophysiology
> While listening to music
> While dancing
> While exploring positive emotions
> While eliciting loving bliss with a friend

5 Relax and practice slowly.
> Relaxation response, breathing, eliciting, 'practices to elicit loving bliss,' with your bodymind releasing
> Find pools of warm water (like at Harbin Hot Springs, or your bathtub) in which to practice eliciting loving bliss, with ease and focus
> Find a friend to do this with

6 Practice hard parts longer.
> Go into, or release richly into, loving bliss?
> For transcendent & heightened experiences of loving bliss, focus on these often, and with depth
7 Practice expressively.
Be serious – invest yourself expressively.
> Let go into loving bliss fulsomely, imaginatively, exploratorily, performatively
> Bring emotion and 'verve' to this practice
> Engage music (especially favorite - for me the Grateful Dead, Raga and Mozart all take me there) as reference experiences

8 Don’t be too hard on yourself.
Learn from your mistakes.
> Focus, after not concentrating, - and care for yourself, while generating loving bliss

9 Don’t show off.
> A kind of Taoist approach {mask the brightness - (Feng and English 1975: #56)}?
> Don't put your loving bliss on display
> And also let your loving bliss shine out, especially when regenerative, and with friends who are also exploring this

10 Think for yourself.
Don’t become a robot, but don’t dismiss what you’re taught.
> Innovate vis-à-vis eliciting loving bliss
> Learn loving bliss techniques, as if learning Watsu (water shiatsu}, and with focus

> Don't repeat loving bliss 'techniques' by rote (e.g. by listening to Mozart's "Magic Flute" or dancing to elicit loving bliss ~> cultivate loving bliss with relaxed intention)
> I think all of the above have quite explicit biochemical, neurophysiological correlates, that, when known, we might begin to orchestrate profoundly, - keep thinking

11 Be optimistic.
Nothing sounds worse than pessimism coming through a horn.
> Cultivate optimism with loving bliss - it might be difficult not to

12 Look for connections. (Make the social aspect of practicing regenerative - S.M.)
Music washes away the dust of everyday life from your feet.
> Orient your mind to connecting with
  • your own neurophysiology of loving bliss
  • to other people~friends who are exploring this
  • to innovating vis-à-vis generating loving bliss
> Explore doing this in multiple networks in your life (including playing musical instruments together:)
> Let's create a remarkable & profound language and socioculture for this

Warm regards,
Scott

Pom Pom crab: Glad to have had the first meeting in the UC Berkeley Law class today at noon for my World University and School for the second semester in a row +

Hi M,

Glad to have had the first meeting in the UC Berkeley Law class today at noon for my World University and School for the second semester in a row. I hope this will further facilitate my career, many others' careers in ALL 8k languages, and a career for me at the MIT Media Lab, as I continue my Harbin research.

I'd like with this tenure track MIT Media Lab junior faculty position, if I make the short list and eventually get the job - and because the greater Boston area is a very expensive place to live - to get a beautifully designed house within a mile or so of a T stop, for around $50,000 through MIT.

As I wrote H yesterday after ordering 10 copies of my book for readings and signings and for resale ...

"Hi H,

Thanks. I just ordered 10 copies of my actual-virtual Harbin ethnography that should arrive around Th 10/13, so Robert Messenger should have a copy in hand the following week.

Writing and publishing a book and developing a reader community - and a virtual Harbin visiting community for a new social science method I'm calling ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy even (e.g. visit the Harbin gate in Google Street View here - https://twitter.com/HarbinBook - with link in the profile description, and "walk" down the road to Middletown) is an unfamiliar journey for me. Eager to get back into the field, perhaps as early January, if Harbin is open again then.

So I'm very grateful for your letting me know how to send W book editor, RM, one of my Harbin books. Thank you.

Waiting to hear if I made the short list for a tenure track MIT Media Lab junior faculty position. Will head back to Cambridge, MA, to give a talk and for interviews in late October / early November if I do.

Upcoming schedule of readings here - http://bit.ly/HarbinBook - with none scheduled online yet :)

Thanks, Scott"

My field work at Harbin which will likely begin in January again, weekly probably, but may only take place possibly over 4-5 months on-the-ground, if I can move back to a house in Boston in May or June of 2017.

But this field work is a most ENJOYABLE aspect of my Harbin ethnographic project - which is kind of a "hippie to the hot spring" ethnographic project, - and being "on the road" doing this. After May or June 2017, I'd have to do field work virtually - in the making of virtual Harbin which has been part of my project all along - and fly too to CA from MIT with budget for field work.

I'm think I'm aiming to get a tablet for the first time ever - a third digital screen device in my life - and for reading sheet music (and saving on printer cartridge costs too), and perhaps as a Kindle reader device too. I'm currently thinking of the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 which came out in Jan 2014 and looks like it's available refurbished for $336 plus shipping here - https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-inches-processo-Android/dp/B00HWMPSK6 . Here's a helpful video description - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGs4jqCpQTk - with some possible peripherals.  (Here's the Kindle Reader application for Android for free - https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201245160 - but which may make sense waiting on for a while longer).

I'm planning to send S a birthday present today - since 10/5 is coming up soon - and it will probably be my Harbin book, which could point to some interesting architectural questions for him, or at least he might enjoy the photos of buildings (part. the Temple and Domes). This will be a homemade gift in a way. :)

I hope you have a great day, Mm! Headed to Stanford yesterday to get further emails from my back log sent.

L,
Scott

Lakes in Lake County, CA: UC BERKELEY LAW NEW BUSINESS PRACTICUM - Thank you!, Realistic virtual earth that World University is planning, The somewhat undeveloped "time slider" feature here in the top left in Google Street View at the Harbin Gatehouse, I write about this in my new actual virtual Harbin book - http://bit.ly/HarbinBook and http://twitter.com/HarbinBook - as a new method I'm developing in the social sciences and STEM fields I'm calling ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy, "Grateful Dead Live at Greek Theatre - University of California on 1968-10-20,""Dear Great Bookstore Manager in Palo Alto ...", Upcoming Harbin Book Readings/Signings' Schedule, Heartsong at Harbin Book Release Parties?

Hi Abboud, (and Philip, Arvind and Prof. Bill),

For your interest, Abboud, you asked about the realistic virtual earth that World University is planning, which conceptually will be like Google Street View/Maps/Earth with TIME SLIDER and OpenSimulator (for group building, like in SL too). You can see the somewhat undeveloped "time slider" feature or functionality here in the top left in Google Street View at the Harbin Gatehouse in the first link here (which I see in Chrome browser) - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/04/peacock-spider-archaeology-in-video.html - and with which you can toggle between 2007 and 2012.

(I write about this in my new actual virtual Harbin book - http://bit.ly/HarbinBook and http://twitter.com/HarbinBook - as a new method I'm developing in the social sciences and STEM fields I'm calling ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy with ongoing Harbin ethnographic field work ahead in these regards).

I also added my 2001 photo of the Harbin Gate (it's a slightly washed out photo) - in a kind of wiki adding process to Google Street View. It isn't possible to go into Harbin in Street View, but it is possible to "walk" down the 4 mile road virtually to Middletown, the closest town.

When we all in our own 7,097 living languages can each add our own videos and Youtube videos to Street View as a field site (e.g. Archaeologists adding film from Troy excavations in 1910 and 1958 - and patch this all together year after year - or someone adding their Grateful Dead videos from 1966 at the Greek in Berkeley (https://archive.org/details/gd1968-10-20.sbd.miller.9071.shnf) and 1979 in NY, and have them digitally become part of the realistic virtual earth, topographically and historically, this will also become a very interesting STEM and Humanities'"classroom." And it's when the people in such realistic Youtube videos can become avatar bots < > and vice versa, that the research possibilities for digital robotics will become fascinating. When they become autonomous that will be even more fascinating - re avatar agency).

Wikimedia/Wikipedia/Wikidata uses OpenMaps so there are open Street View/Maps versions on the horizon, but Google Street View /Maps' integration with Earth, in a topographically accurate way as well as with a photographed Google Earth is unparalleled as a base for all of this.

Hoping to get the For-Profit Business Model canvas plan to you soon, based on the CC handout Bill gave me at the close of our meeting at Berkeley Law on Monday Oct. 3. (Arvind - thank you again for last semester! Would you like to meet for a coffee or similar to talk further about WUaS planning a For-Profit business side, including seeing how this would work on paper?)

Thanks again, Abboud, Philip and Bill.

All the best, Scott

Dear Great Bookstore Manager,

Someone who works for you at "Books" in Palo Alto yesterday gave me your Booksstore's flyer re consignment, and after looking it over, I'm emailing to greet you, and say that the Academic Press at World University and School (http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html) has a policy against management fees ($30), as well as that we generally do not release a book on consignment (due to shop wear, etc., issues).

That said, my Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic book lists for $64.95, has about 180 full color photos, is printed on 8.5 x 11 inch pages and would make a wonderful gift book too. It's a very lovely and original book, in addition to being an actual-virtual ethnography of a fascinating place in northern California. Have you been to Harbin?

"Naked Harbin Ethnography" is also now available in many distributors' online inventories, and if doing an event or reading were possible with you at Books Inc., I would list this on the book's web page - http://www.scottmacleod.com/ActualVirtualHarbinBook.html - as free advertising for your bookstore.

I'll have a few copies on hand soon, and could offer it to your bookstore. for slightly less than the wholesale distributors' cost, if you'd be interested. I would also gladly bring some by the next time I'm at Stanford (which is often).

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Scott MacLeod
(Author, and publisher of new Academic Press at World University, planned with machine translation in all countries' official languages)

Hey Heartsong,

I just heard back from the Lakeport head librarian that I have the meeting room booked in the Middletown library on November 5th, at 11am, for my actual virtual Harbin book release party / reading! I want too to give you your birthday present of my book.

Will you be around? Would you like to come over to Lakeport library too for the other release party / reading which begins at 2 pm.

While the Kindle reader app which works on ANY device is supposed to be free, and the Kindle edition of my Harbin book lists for $24.99 - https://www.amazon.com/Naked-Harbin-Ethnography-Counterculture-Clothing-Optionality-ebook/dp/B01M1S3NMD/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8 and accessible from here - http://amazon.com/author/scottmacleodworlduniversity - I think I'm going to try to figure out how people can get the Kindle version of my "Naked Harbin Ethnography" book for $19.99 if they use a special code, all of which I may print on a piece of paper and hand out.

It would be really fun to talk with you with folks in the Middletown and Lakeport libraries about Harbin on Sat Nov 5 at 11am and 2pm, if you'd be interested.

Jaima, Scott

News and Agenda

World University and School has officially begun its second semester in a row in the UC Berkeley Law "New Business Practicum" course, this time to file For-Profit legal papers with the state of California and the US government, FORKING in the process to complement our current 501 c 3 Non-Profit status. WUaS's forking will take shape around these 14 Planned Revenue Streams -http://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html - with WUaS.com or similar offering shares potentially to be traded publicly. WUaS is planning to become CC Universities on its non-profit wing in all ~200 countries' main and official languages - the "Harvards of the Web."

WUaS's newly emerging For-Profit wing will grow out of this Strategyzer business model canvas - https://strategyzer.com/canvas - which we'll discuss on Saturday at the WUaS Annual Meeting. Attached too is the diagram UC Berkeley Law Professor William Kell detailed on Monday as we talked about this forking of WUaS, ostensibly into WUaS.org as Non-Profit and WUaS.com as For-Profit, and eventually, after graduating our first class as WUaS accredits, to become WUaS.edu, even as we remain forked in perpetuity.

Scott will help to host the Wikidata 4th birthday party in San Francisco at Red Door Coffee SF at 111 Minna Street -https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Fourth_Birthday. WUaS, having donated CC WUaS to CC Wikidata last October 2015 around this time, will also celebrate its own birthday in Wikidata.

Hi M,

Thanks for your email, and great work re "downballot" candidates in PA. (How to improve the quality of candidates in politics in general?). Information Technology could help.

The word "commonwealth" is an interesting way of constructing or construing the "state" - from the "inside" re your email.

I suppose one could do that for other entities organizational entities; When I searched on "Is Canada a commonwealth?" I got: "The Commonwealth of Nations is made up of 53 countries, including Canada, that were for the most part once part of the British Empire" (http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/commonwealth/).

Are companies or universities commonwealths? Not here -
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth

In what ways can World University and School become a kind of commonwealth I wonder?
WUaS seeks to create "Harvards of the Web" in all countries - with a related for-profit side in each nation state.

Check out my blog post from yesterday re Harbin Book Releasing/Reading Party -
http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/10/outamba-kilimi-park-sierra-leone-very.html - and will get out WUaS's annual meeting minutes soon.

Music making for Scottish Country Dancers in Berkeley with the Open Band was fun last night.

Hi, A, S and K,

"One Straw Revolution" is very Taoist ... Chapter 1 section 4 is
Toward a Do-Nothing Farming ......

for instance ... ~ http://www.appropedia.org/images/d/d3/Onestraw.pdf ~
translated from the Japanese as it is ... :)

Hope to see you tomorrow evening in SF, Ants, at the salon.

Am heading into the field for Sierra Hot Springs' field work now (Harbin's sister springs, about 3.5 hours from here, and before the frosts come!).

Friendly wee cheers, Scott

Monday, 10/10

I'm curious how MIT undergraduate and graduate students might read Fukuoka's "One Straw Revolution" while in the field at Harbin or Sierra Hot Springs and re questions of
Agriculture - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Agriculture - and (Taoist - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Taoism) Design - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Design - and also re coding for a STEM realistic virtual earth (with both
Harbin Hot Springs as well as Sierra Hot Springs) as field sites ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook/status/785548238279495680

How to code for the kinds of happiness generation neurophysiology of soaking and meditating in the warm pools at these springs? How to think about and measure this brain science-wise - and comparatively, i.e. in actual and virtual Harbins, possibly with brain wave head sets?

Graduate students know more than undergraduates and can also focus more fully on their academic and entrepreneurial futures in interesting ways - but I learn a lot from both. Grad students can also mentor undergraduate students in great ways (and as Graduate Student Instructors), especially within the culture of MIT!

Still haven't heard directly from the MIT Media Lab about whether I'm on the short list.

Exciting, Wikidatans and Wiktionarians!

How might we best collaborate - "[Wikidata] Wikimedia Grants: Every language in the world"? (CC World University and School which donated CC WUaS to CC Wikidata last October plans wiki schools in all 7,943 languages (http://glottolog.org/glottolog/language) as well as major universities in all ~200 countries' main and official languages (Harvards of the Web, accrediting on CC MIT OCW in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC for Bachelor, Ph.D. Law, and M.D. degrees and I.B. high school diplomas) seeks to facilitate all Libraries (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Library_Resources) and all Museums (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Museums) in all languages, a universal translator (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/WUaS_Universal_Translator), and ALL-languages Brain research - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Brain_and_Cognitive_Sciences - plus much more re all languages. Much of this will occur intially via this main WUaS SUBJECT_TEMPLATE - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/SUBJECT_TEMPLATE - which is the basis for most of WUaS's ~720 wiki pages, before WUaS moves into a new wiki emerging from Wikidata, hopefully in January).

Glad Poly may be getting financial support!

Cheers, Scott

The origin and meaning of female orgasm has occupied biologists and philosophers since the beginning of the study of life. The main problem is that female orgasm has no manifest roles in human reproduction but is nevertheless a complex physiological trait. Two of our speakers, Professor Gunter Wagner and Professor Mihaela Pavličev, propose that female orgasm is derived from a neuro-endocrine reflex that was necessary for ovulation but in primates lost its reproductive role. We shall also discuss the implications of our model for the understanding of so-called "orgasmic dysfunction." Professor Elisabeth A. Lloyd will serve as the respondent.

Hi M,

How are you? Fascinating Stanford neuroscience conference on Thursday - https://events.stanford.edu/events/580/58095/ (https://twitter.com/StanfordBrain). Researchers are creating remarkable understandings of what goes on in the brain at nano (atomic), molecular and neuronal (cellular) scales. Tony Wyss-Coray's work with blood transfusions from young mice to old mice has far-reaching implications for memory and longevity - https://www.ted.com/talks/tony_wyss_coray_how_young_blood_might_help_reverse_aging_yes_really?language=en - using plasma. Was very glad to meet Stanford Professor and Institute Director Bill Newsome - https://med.stanford.edu/profiles/william-newsome - of Stanford Neuroscience Institute https://neuroscience.stanford.edu/people/executive-committee and Google's Tom Dean working on the Human Connectome Project - http://www.humanconnectomeproject.org and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Connectome_Project and https://www.neuroscienceblueprint.nih.gov/connectome/ - in particular, who is also a professor at Brown University. I also found Helen M. Bronte-Stewart, MD, MSE work on Parkinson's disease fascinating (https://med.stanford.edu/bronte-stewart-lab/members.html). Hoping to further network with these folks re modeling a realistic virtual earth and at the same scales, but also at the Street View level - so like Google Street View with TIME SLIDER with OpenSimulator for group building, and in all 8k languages.

Here's a talk in a Unitarian Universalist church by George Lakey, a Quaker and a professor at Swarthmore - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kfMWbfa-Us George Lakey Explains the Benefits of Scandinavian Economics. I enjoy George a lot, heard him in SF about 3 years ago, and he's somehow good and inspiring. I posted this here times - https://twitter.com/scottmacleod/status/787044549306658817. There are some implications for my big project in this talk as well.

Hi M,

Glad to have received an email from Prof Bill Kell and his students yesterday that they are sending an intake memo today. This ia an official paperwork step re World University and School as For-Profit in this "New Business Practicum" UC Berkeley course for the second semester in a row (which I'll probably also put on my CV and which could lead to finances). About the time yesterday that I received his email, Media Lab director Joi Ito also posted an interview with someone with a Muslim name (possibly a MIT student), which I re-posted to this G+ Profile -  https://plus.google.com/+InfoWorldUniversityinEnglish/posts/E7ChNtNk2wD (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWgkjjZr8ag) - who is actually the former head of digital currencies at the Bank of England, and a lawyer. Together they're thinking through implications of BitCoin, which is very relevant to my big project - especially with WUaS's plans of law schools in all countries' main languages. MIT seems to be in a driver's seat re this new currency, and England, which is one thing I learned from this video.

I've been beginning to work on a business model canvas re what Prof. Bill Kell handed me as I left his office about 2 weeks ago. We're feeling our way forward, step by step, in this startup all-languages' university and school process. After our two face to face meetings (one in his home and one in his office), Bill's email formalizes and focuses this process further.

George Lakey's talk - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kfMWbfa-Us - is actually a talk about his new book - in a UU church ...I wonder if I might I please explore giving a talk about my actual virtual Harbin book - http://bit.ly/HarbinBook - in the Pittsburgh UU First Church over Xmas, especially if I could also explore coming back a little early to finish work on my top back right tooth from a few years ago.

I hope to share possibly some of the videos and highlights from the brain/neuroscience conference at Stanford on Thursday - https://twitter.com/StanfordBrain - when the videos become available. In addition to fascinating and far-reaching basic research into all nano (atomic), molecular, neuronal (cellular) and behavioral (Street View) levels of the brain, there were interesting talks re memory, longevity ... and Parkinson's disease.

Music-making was fun playing for Scottish Country Dancers last night. Barbara S came back to play after 6 months away due to a back problem I'm glad to say!

Gas on stove went off yesterday, so I "soft boiled" my egg this morning in the microwave for 1 minute, which will take some getting used to, but it is probably cheaper than the stove.

Hope your weekend is fun.

Besides a 15 foot cubed augmented reality "classroom" and STEM field site in all 8k languages, and for digital libraries and museums, in each of all 8k languages (which I've explored in this blog before)  - like Google Street View with TIME SLIDER with OpenSim, but more precisely, and for group building and scientists wiki adding of their own computer modeling, I wonder how many further ways we could use a 15 foot cubed augmented reality "classroom" AROUND us?

Here are some possibilities:

~ Digital humanities' project

~ Digital history around us from film/news, and back to archaeological evidence from 3700 years' ago - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/05/hathor-excellent-stanford-talk.html

~ Digital stage set / opera space / rock stage

~ Digital hospital / operating room

~ Digital brain at nano, molecular and neuronal levels (vis-a-vis the Connectome project and Tom Dean's modeling, for example)

~ Digital galaxy for scientific space travel

~ Digital store (any place of commerce on earth)

~ Digital ecosystem

~ A film production set

~ Synthetic biology/evolutionary biological laboratory which could give form to virtual species that are being developed out of old DNA ...

~ Archaeological sites for STEM researchers (and tourists) through time in a realistic virtual earth with TIME SLIDER in all languages (see, too - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/10/organisms-at-high-altitude-how-will.html)

~ A way to travel to the a 1968 Grateful Dead concert and be in the middle of it, and then with time slider to travel to a 1978 show, all by adding Youtube videos and converting them to avatars and augmented reality ...

And a little Harbin "ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy" ...

As a good "hippie", I was often dismayed by the sadly long "DNA" (Do Not Admit) list at Harbin, thinking that those troubled troublemakers who made the list were the ones most in need of the love and the healing that Harbin had to offer. But their exclusion from Harbin "society" was not about hate or anyone's (management's) opinion of them, it was their inharmonious impact in the rest of the Harbin population that prompted their expulsion from "The Garden." Similarly, we can send love and healing to Trump and Clinton while, at the same time, protecting our society by strongly objecting to what they stand for and by doing everything we can to limit their destructive influence on it. A "good hippy" is not only a lover but a fighter.... for justice, progress and the greater good. As a famous Vulcan once said. "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one."

Hello L, L and D!

Thanks for your email, L.

I ordered a 23 cm (9 inch) round chocolate cake with raspberries on it yesterday which will have written on it - "Happy 4th Birthday Wikidata SF" - and which I'll pick up in Berkeley before the Wikidata 4th birthday party in SF on W October 26th.

I hope WUaS can potentially open for student applicants with a CC MIT OCW-centric course catalog in all 7 languages (and CC Yale OYC-centric too) -  emerging out of Wikidata - and beginning in January at the WikiDev 2017 conference, and that WUaS can explore collaborating with a team of multilingual Wikidata coders, programmers and wiki developers in the process after this. What might be the best ways to communicate further about this, please?

WUaS seeks to become a growth story for Wikidata and the Internet as well - with plans for wiki schools in all 7,943+ languages and much more.

L, L and D, WUaS is currently in a UC Berkeley Law "New Business Practicum" course for a second semester, and exploring forking WUaS into 2 wings re revenue around Creative Commons. How best to talk about this with you at Wikidata as well?

Looking forward to the Wikidata birthday parties next week! Happy 4th Birthday, Wikidata! :)

Thank you!

Best, S

Hi Ian and Wikidata,

Great, Ian and Arc.heolo.gy!

To complement your efforts, WUaS, which donated WUaS to Wikidata a year ago, seeks to develop a realistic virtual earth with TIME SLIDER for STEM researchers to add their data - conceptually like Google Street View/Maps/Earth with TIME SLIDER with OpenSim for group building, but with much much more precision, and so scientists can wiki add their own computer modeling, and in all 8k languages, and at the cellular, molecular and nano levels too - drawing on and querying from Wikidata. (See - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/10/organisms-at-high-altitude-how-will.html - and http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/10/cetonia-aurata-how-many-further-ways-we.html). D.K. has responded to a couple of related WUaS "Troy"-example posts in this Wikidata-l email list, as well.

Best,
Scott

Petals: A long term approach to "How to grow our Wikimedia technical community" via collaboration possibly with World University and School, which donated itself to Wikidata last October 2015

$

Hi Wikitechans, Quim (and Lea and Lydia),

I'd be interested in possibly making a presentation or similar at the Wikimedia Developer Summit 2017 on a long term approach to "How to grow our Wikimedia technical community" via collaboration possibly with World University and School, which donated itself to Wikidata last October 2015.

CC World University and School would like to offer a single course in collaboration with organizations like Wikimedia, and explore guaranteeing a part time job probably at the college intern (10 hours/week jobs for 20 year olds) level. (By way of comparison, Sebastian Thrun's Udacity offers a money-back guarantee for some nano-degrees if they don't get a job in collaboration with some business - which is quite unusual in the US).
In addition to this single WUaS "Technical - Data Analytics" course (perhaps in the vein of Google's Summer of Code, learning programming while working on a project) which could significantly help "[Wikitech-l] How to grow our technical community - Wikimedia Developer Summit," since Wikimedia could hire them, and also especially since WUaS would like to offer this course in all countries' main languages (and possibly so that students can circulate back into and through WUaS for free CC MIT OCW-centric Uni degrees, for increasing their technical skills). WUaS would also like to explore helping grow the Wikimedia Technical Community through the following eventually:

- matriculated computer science, AI and other students at WUaS (in all countries' languages +)

- WUaS graduates (Bach and Ph.D.) with degrees in CS, AI and related (in all countries' languages+)

- online WUaS wiki students and teachers in all 7,943+ languages

What single course in, say, Wikimedia main programming languages, and perhaps drawing on MIT OCW, would you think would be most relevant to helping Wikimedia?

Just added this "(Organize a course, possibly CC MIT OCW-centric in 7 languages, which upon completion would lead to a Wikimedia technical job, and potentially in collaboration with MIT OCW-centric & Yale OYC-centric CC WUaS, planned in all countries' languages for free CC university degrees, and where WUaS donated to Wikidata last October 2015)" to
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Developer_Summit/2017/How_to_grow_our_technical_community

This could be a way to help significantly grow the Wikitech/Wikimedia technical communities.

Thoughts?

Best, Scott

I'm sorry to write, I just learned, that I did not get the tenure track MIT Media Lab junior faculty position.

Thank you very much for writing a recommendation for me.

I'm glad to write, however, that World University and School is officially "forking" around these 14 planned revenue streams - http://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html - in terms of all countries' main languages and in terms of all 7943 languages - and is filing the For-Profit legal papers for this in UC Berkeley Law course this autumn (for the second semester).

Thank you again for writing the Media Lab recommendation for me.

Sincerely, Scott

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the update - and sorry to hear the news - but you tried and that counts for a lot in my books.

We all need wear multiple hats these days, and creating courses that we teach that students want to learn about is a good think to have in your hip pocket when applying for faculty positions.

Ji,

Thanks very much for your email. I hope my applying to teach at MIT supports my getting World University and School started (where I hope to teach as well) financially, as the "Harvards of the Web" in all 200 countries' main languages for free CC Uni and high school degrees, and as wiki schools in all 7,943 languages.

I received the email from MIT right after attending another Stanford Law Silicon Valley Directors' Exchange meeting this morning where impressive Stanford Law Professor Joe Grundfest (MSc Program-London School of Economics 1972, BA Yale University 1973, JD Stanford Law School 1978, Doctoral studies (economics) Stanford University 1975-78) - who seems to see law as a thinking endeavor - was the moderator. He was around Yale and Stanford it seems from 1969-1978, interesting times at both places, alternative-culturally. I.T.-culturally, too, I wonder about the timing of such email processes and re CC WUaS's CC MIT OCW-centricity in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC-centricity envisioning and planning.
Have you seen MIT's Ed Boyden's ~ minute-long seeming reference to what WUaS is doing at 15:50 here - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/09/orchid-bee-euglossini-wuas-alluded-to.html - at the top? Check out the slide in this video at the 15:55 minute mark -https://youtu.be/18jZDVuiAOM?t=15m55s - bringing together a) universities (some 800 years old) which don't scale very well (per Ed) WITH b) for-profit tax forms (e.g. per Ed, such corporations can scale huge very well, but are may be less open than academic settings) WITH c) non-profit organizations which can scale better than universities, per Ed, and maybe have different time horizons than for-profits - all in one slide. WUaS hopes to do this, and in collaboration with CC MIT, CC Yale and other greatest universities.

My major disappointment, however, with not getting the MIT position is my ongoing serious p... , since it's not obvious at all when WUaS will become financially operational. (I enjoy teaching the "Network Society and Information Technology, and the Global University" a lot, and have taught this course for many years. I'm also looking forward to teaching a course re actual-virtual Harbin, ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy and building a realistic virtual earth for STEM research and as a field site).

As WUaS files the WUaS For-Profit papers in the UC Berkeley Law course, WUaS has been developing the Business Model Canvas, one of which main fields invites WUaS to "paint" in our partners. So far, I've added Wikidata (in 358 languages), Google (in 100 languages), the University of California (for its linguistic diversity, as well as its high achieving student bodies) and Berkeley Law. Would it be alright with you if I add ISSIP please, as well as mention ISSIP's IBM, Cisco and HP support?

Thank you, again, for writing the recommendation for me.

Thank you, Scott

Hi Scott,

You are a member of ISSIP - so you can surely add ISSIP to your network reference that you leverage.
