What a charming thing to say. I miss the spontaneous singing amongst friends that used to happen while driving hither and thither in our youth.

Susan

*
Hi Susan, and All,

Yes, yes, yes ... Steeleye Span's music and we Scottish Country Dancing friends from the 1970s are of one music in many ways.

Was glad here just now to spend all day on Saturday with Pin Mazumdar and his new wife of 5 years, Mary (they live in Baltimore). Pin mentioned knowing you, Rob, David, and Hugh (although not from Shady Side Academy ... not sure sure how ... perhaps because besides from Pittsburgh, you and his sister Maitreyi both went to Yale ... and Marti is now a Harvard Medical School professor! ... and Pin went to Harvard College) ... but he didn't seem to remember you, Susan! ... Hmmm ... don't think Pin ever came Scottish Country Dancing ... did he dance English during high school? I don't recall too that he danced at any of the Pittsburgh Folk Festivals ...

How will some of such history emerge in a realistic virtual earth of Pittsburgh for we high schoolers and Scottish Country Dancing in the 1970s ? Brainwave headsets for memory-to-3D interactive virtual worlds ? 'Twould / could be fun to explore singing again in such virtual cars together in a realistic virtual earth with time slider - and from our homes?

How are you doing in London, Hugh (http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/10/bar-tailed-godwit-laissez-faire-harbin.html)? How's your research going?

Warm regards,
Scott

*

Bar-tailed Godwit: laissez-faire Harbin Hot Springs into a Lazy Fair online in virtual Harbin (kind of a hippy thang)? Explore "virtualizing" (to make "as if," I'll call this) history? I mean by this make history come alive - in your mind, for writing your books & papers, for your students, or even as you might have done in your teens with playing the board game Dungeons & Dragons (pre-digital D&D?), for example - by gamify-ing imaginary readings of versions of history, with a technical side - the structure of the game - and also with an historical re-enactment component?

*

I remember Pin as well, no doubt from general social events among our circle of friends.

I'm having a fantastic time in London, going to castles, museums, operas, talks on medieval history, sessions of drinking beer in pubs after talks on medieval history, etc. And I'm still actually getting work done!

Hugh

*
Hi Hugh and All,

Thanks much for your news and email. Pin hasn't changed that much over the years, in many many ways - and it was so great to see them.

I don't think it's easy yet for a scholar or professor to put on something like Google Glass for explorations in libraries and museums, as well as ancient buildings and landscapes, so that we could see what you're seeing, and also so that this could stream into an interactive, group build-able, realistic virtual earth to help build it ... but I'm optimistic for this configuration of information technologies - e.g. conceptually Google Glass into Google Hangouts with G Streetivew /
Maps / Earth with time slider - coming to fruition.

Otherwise it could be fun to see London through your eyes on this trip with you (and facilitate you dovetailing this with your place-based e-research into the court of King John, as well as even new kinds of "letters home" - and co-building a realistic virtual earth with TIME SLIDER with your historian's mind in particular :) ... or perhaps for me or some of us to show you all where we're traveling on future journeys ... even as kinds of tour guides (and also to generate traveling/touring data for a realistic virtual earth). What would this be like through Tolkien's Middle Earth of our co-creation (apart from the films) in the sphere of the fantastic / the science fiction ?

Might you find your way to any kind of dance in and around London while you're researching?

So glad you're having a fantastic (and productive!) time in London.

Cheers,
Scott

Hi Rob, (Sandy) and All,

Speaking of music and dancing that moved us from the second half of the 1970s and growing an interactive realistic virtual earth, - which Grateful Dead shows on Youtube, in Archive.org, and similar, are you like to have gone to / been at from say 1975-1979 - and beginning, say, with this one - Grateful Dead - Full Concert - 04/27/77 - Capitol Theatre (OFFICIAL) in Passaic NJ ...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U90Fnv_FpM4 - and exploring out into cyberspace in video enjoyably from there ... and then, furthur, into a realistic virtual earth from our own room at home with 4 hypothetical "MIT MediaLab light bulbs" - both projectors and video cameras - in the 4 ceiling corners of this room? ... for dancing etc of course, and even with avatar bots of our friends who were also there in the '70s. (Wish we had such a realistic virtual earth going already where exploring building this could add to the enjoyment - the communitas in a sense - of having actually been there). Sandy, did you go to any Dead shows in these years? :)

Steeleye Span were playing in London, Hugh, in these years - an interesting historical focus in these regards perhaps ...  and they were also playing Stanford in the 1970s. Have blogged a bit about this
(and the Grateful Dead at Stanford in the '70s) here -

Wild boar: Carols & music, "singing the Boar's Head Carol?", folk rock music, Steeleye Span and the Grateful Dead, How to inform World University and School degrees with the freedom, space and jamming of the Grateful Dead (accrediting on MIT OCW in 7 languages) - say in 36 courses over 4 years for a free CC OCW undergraduate degree {and also from a meditative, serene and centered place, too}?, Stanford comes closest to this vision in my experience and today too, Jerry House there, More about the Grateful Dead and Stanford, Deadheads and ecstasy ~ X CHEMISTRY? ~Garcia & Weir on Letterman 4-13-1982, NY, NY … @HarbinBook ~GD at Harbin in '70s, Steeleye Span played Stanford in the 1970s at least twice - reviews from the Stanford Daily!

https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/02/wild-boar-carols-music-singing-boars.html - with articles I found in the online "Stanford Daily" but haven't actually found the shows in video yet. Interesting history! and anthropology ... which would could all co-create, as well. :)

Cheers,
Scott

You might enjoy this George Vaillant MD video, M -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKDsU96EVuk

... He's an Octogenerian .. .

And a Harvard Medical School Professor ... and there's a lot of wisdom in this esp. from 14-19 mins.

I wonder if D could have conversed with him about this talk even - since a Trinity church is mentioned, for example; D and L are one wonderful example of Boston friendliness in my experience too. :)

(... https://www.google.com/maps/place/Cambridge,+MA/@42.376181,-71.115757,3a,75y,119h,90t/data=!3m8!1e2!3m6!1sAF1QipOY4BleEhVFXJ55FOe_Lbx_dR_DNwMTmCtWvAyq!2e10!3e12!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipOY4BleEhVFXJ55FOe_Lbx_dR_DNwMTmCtWvAyq%3Dw203-h114-k-no!7i5312!8i2988!4m5!3m4!1s0x89e370a5cb30cc5f:0xc53a8e6489686c87!8m2!3d42.3736158!4d-71.1097335 ...)

Thinking my way into the friendliness of Boston, as ethos, in my experience (having been born there), and appreciating this a lot. In what ways could this ethos (i.e. friendly Boston) emerge or grow in other ways - virtually ("as if" - and in one's mind, as it were) - either here in the SF Bay Area, or online in a virtual Boston ? What do you think, M?

It might be possible to generate this myself here in bodymind ... but I'm not sure exactly how. :)

How was your day? It's raining now ... and the world is wet ... it's kind of the first wet early winter rain here ... Heading to music-making soon. I'll probably listen to this George Vaillant video
again, esp. from 14-19 mins.

Hi T,

Nice to share this course with you further today.

Here's "Robots building a 3D bridge" - https://twitter.com/ValaAfshar/status/930467758663458816 - and how I'm engaging this for ACTUAL-VIRTUAL Harbin Project - https://twitter.com/HarbinBook/status/930511447552954368 - which will also become a STEM and ethnographic field site, as well as classroom.

By the way, a "program" is a series of coded software instructions to control the operation of a computer (or other machine), where a computer is an input-output device - for this course (http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html). So an airplane and a car are not yet computers in this sense re programming. (And per this information technology revolution course, airplanes and cars also have microelectronics, telecommunications, and genes in them). But when avatar bots (like in SL/OpenSim) as programs with agency - kinds of free will - start to inhabit and control our smartphones, and begin also to inhabit virtual airplanes and virtual flying cars (think "the Jetsons") - and actually too - we'll have new definitions of airplanes and cars as computers.

(Orwell's book "Nineteen Eighty-Four" was written in 1949, not the 1930s - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nineteen_Eighty-Four).

Here's a 3D machinima piece by Bernhard Drax on persistence of place in a virtual world per Tom Boellstorff (CoAiSL< >@HarbinBook) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8GYs_9PjFs … "Our Digital Selves" [Drax 2018] -https://twitter.com/scottmacleod/status/921873401827835904 .

More about an Universal Basic Income & Finland ... re WUaS plans to facilitate a cryptocurrency in all ~200 countries' official languages with an UBI for all 7.5 billion people

How is your weekly communication going with Larry and re your MIT OCW "Energy Decisions, Markets, and Policies" https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/sloan-school-of-management/15-031j-energy-decisions-markets-and-policies-spring-2012/ course? (I enjoyed hearing Dick Schmalensee's talk at Stanford but won't share my notes with you at this point). Enjoyed hearing about your team work with this climate simulation.

For next week, please get Second Life up and working if you can. And please catch up on the past projects from this course as well - via email perhaps instead of posting to social media.

Also, for a final course project, I'd like to ask you to write a five page research paper (perhaps in Google Docs), and begin to think through what you'd like to inquire about in this paper for next week - which we'll then talk about and focus further, drawing on the innovative thinking and ideas of this course re the information technology revolution. So, for next week, could you please write a tentative opening paragraph, with a research question, a thesis (e.g. "I want to argue that ... ""I want to suggest that ..." ) and 3 main points that you might like to "argue" further  in the paper. Thank you!

Cheers, Scott

Hi Tanya,

Good course yesterday. Here are some further related resources and clarifications.

Here's the great day-long MIT Media Lab "Forbidden Research" conference in video from last year - https://www.media.mit.edu/events/forbidden/overview . The research by MIT's Kevin Esvelt in genetics and CRISPR, - http://opentranscripts.org/transcript/messing-with-nature-genetics/ - and possibly that by Harvard Prof George Church, and Stanford Prof Megan Palmer, could be of particular interest to you.

Here, too, is my recent correspondence with MIT Prof. Dick Schmalensee - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/11/pinus-palustris-near-term-policy.html - and where I mention you taking his course at World University and School.

Some further definitions re - Society, Information Technology, and the Global University ... http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html -
... While society can mean - "the aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered community" - for Castells it further refers to "social, political, economic and cultural changes caused by the spread of networked, digital information and communications technologies," with intellectual origins for Castells going back to "social theorists such as Georg Simmel who analyzed the effect of modernization and industrial capitalism on complex patterns of affiliation, organization, production and experience" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_society).

And information for Castells is related "to data and knowledge" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information - and "where its creation, distribution, use, integration and manipulation is a significant economic, political, and cultural activity" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_society).

Dear Randy (Stanford Professor of Medicine, who also went to Reed College),
https://profiles.stanford.edu/randall-stafford

Thanks for your great Stanford Grand Rounds' talk today - http://medicinecalendars.stanford.edu/event/medicine-grand-rounds-battling-hypertension-guidelines/ - and great to talk with you afterward.

As I asked afterward, I'm curious how Project Baseline's focus on high blood pressure and hypertension research re future data generation will emerge in a realistic virtual earth, with avatar bots (potentially for all species and especially all organisms), for new/different kinds of knowledge representation - and for hypertension risk reduction; Think Google Streetview / Maps / Earth with TIME SLIDER married conceptually with OpenSim/Second Life for group build-ability, but realistic, with species' AVATAR BOTS - and at the cellular and atomic levels too.  (Re Project Baseline, see, too - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/11/mesic-habitat-stanford-surfacing-human.html).

In a related vein, I'd like to develop CC MIT OCW-centric (in 7 languages) World University and School's online Medical Schools and online teaching hospitals in all ~200 countries' official languages with Project Baseline, and ideally with Stanford Medicine OpenCourseWare to be developed.

Here's the very beginnings of online World_University_Medical_School (s) at WUaS - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University_Medical_School - and the online teaching hospitals at WUaS - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Hospital - again, both planned in all ~200 countries' official languages.

In asking about a cryptocurrency with blockchain and with an Universal Basic Income for 7.5 billion people, and re your response, it would be fascinating to focus clinical trials planned in all 7,099 living languages with this resource - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Clinical_Trials_at_WUaS_(for_all_languages) . Think of these WUaS Wikia wiki pages as blueprints, which will emerge newly here in our brand new Miraheze Mediawiki - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States - in all countries' official languages, with Wikidata (Wikipedia's database for its 358 languages) as a backend. (Google Education is already a WUaS platform as well).

And per my other question, could WUaS focus such clinical trials on hypertension reversal, and based on lifestyle changes studying large sample sizes of peoples in a wide variety of regions - and even re this realistic virtual earth (for focusing lifestyle and behavioral changes too)? Forward to BF Skinner, with a STEM SF Bay Area / Reed College / information technology trajectory! :)

Have received an invitation to give a Stanford Medicine X talk in late April 2018.

Best regards,
Scott

Hi WUaS Corp Team Members,,

To give you an idea of where we are with our developing WUaS Miraheze Mediawiki platform, with Wikidata as a developing backend (planned in all Wikipedia's 358 languages), the IRC (internet relay chat) today with Wikidata / Wikimedia engineers / developers was about user names from a technical perspective - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T179832 .

I asked, and this communication unfolded:

[12:09] <Scott_WUaS> (In what ways might this RFC address importing different names from each of all ~200 countries official main languages, - perhaps drawing on Wikimedia Foundation related databases and communities ?)

12:10] <anomie> Scott_WUaS: I don't understand your question.

[12:12] <Scott_WUaS> (anomie: Tim, Daniel and Bryan invited me to this IRC - and perhaps also re - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States - where WUaS donated itself to Wikidata in 2015 and has this new Miraheze Mediawiki thanks to that - so I'm wondering about user names in these regards too).

[12:14] <DanielK_WMDE_> Scott_WUaS: i18n does nto seem to be a concern relevant to this RFC. User names from imports will continue to support all scripts that user names regularly do.

[12:14] <anomie> Scott_WUaS: If edits were actually imported using Special:Import, this proposal affects the user names that the edits would be attributed to. If data is going to be manually entered, this proposal isn't going to affect that.

[12:14] <Scott_WUaS> Thanks, DanielK_WMDE_ and anomie

[12:16] <Scott_WUaS> WUaS in Mediawiki / Wikidata is also anticipating usernames in all 7,000 languages, mentioned on the Wikimedia 2030 panel this August with Katherine Maher and Magnus Manske - and I wonder about today's user names' focus in these regards, as well.

[12:19] <Scott_WUaS> (... and even re WUaS's planning for user names for an Universal Basic Income for all 7.5 billion people with cryptocurrency and the blockchain ... conceptually )

[12:21] <anomie> Scott_WUaS: It seems like you're more concerned with what scripts are allowed in usernames than anything this meeting is about. FYI, MediaWiki allows anything that can be represented in UTF-8.

[12:21] <Scott_WUaS> Thanks, anomie

So I'm glad WUaS / I was specifically invited to this meeting by Tim Starling and re planning for You_at_World_University - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/You_at_World_University (a kind of blueprint) - even for all 7.5 billion people, and glad too this conversation made it into this Wikimedia transcript for others to read.

You_at_World_University will also be especially for A) matriculated and registered students at World Univ & Sch (on the non-profit 501 c 3 WUaS CC-4 MIT OCW-centric side) in all 200 countries' official languages for free CC OCW degrees ... as well as for B) the for-profit general stock company WUaS Corp's bookstore / academic press with machine translation with the Wikisource CC-0 commercial side / human resources ( https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html ).

WUaS Monthly Business Meeting meets this Saturday at 9am PT.

Sincerely, Scott

A DRAFT CONSTITUTION FOR SCOTLAND INTRODUCTORY AND EXPLANTATORY NOTES

The “constitutional” debate in Scotland has focused mainly on the relationship between Scotland and the rest of the UK. Little serious thought has so far been given to the design of a future Scottish Constitution in the event of a “Yes” vote in a referendum on independence.

∗ Having had no experience of democracy under a written Constitution, Scotland is “constitutionally illiterate”, not just at mass level but also amongst political elites.

∗ After independence there will be many practical problems to deal with, and good constitutional design is likely to be forgotten in the rush to set up embassies etc.

Hi M,

Do all humans go into a kind of zombie state for about 8 hours avg every 24 hours - all 7.5 billion of us - some even sleepwalking? Interesting mind experiment bringing further light to consciousness questions. (Philosopher of consciousness David Chalmers has explored zombie questions as thought experiments very fruitfully).

How could we in our waking states head toward great love and care consciousness, philosophically with language, and brain science, in new ways I wonder? So when you turn on your favorite music - eg Telemann or Vivaldi - and you change your consciousness in doing so possibly in the direction of love, could we extend this further, - and much further?

Wondering if my ongoing interest in creating a realistic virtual earth with TIME SLIDER (re my Harbin Hot Springs' project - ) which would include Frank Lloyd Wright's Guggenheim Museum (and all architecture of all time), for example, in all its days and years, (with his Unitarian Universalist good cultural/religious roots), and for 3D printing therefrom and for creating architectural designs of our own making (and of the Guggenheim if interested) ... has creative parallels with F.L. Wright (and cultural caring context too-re you too:)?

(Continuing to read Nancy Horan's "Loving Frank" about Frank Lloyd Wright - and our ancestors, as well).

What's your day hold ahead? How are you?

L,
Scott

Hi M,

A bit further morning creativity ...

The year is 18,953, - about 17,000 years from now, and about 5% of us are still alive from the year 2017. We figured out how to extend life spans indefinitely with genomics using a combination of the biological principles underlying calorie restrictions' effects on prolonging life 10-15% across all species, and the principles undelying replacing old mice blood in such mice with young mice blood. Poverty was eliminated among all 7.5 billion people, as well as other species, with an Universal Basic Income with cryptocurrency with the blockchain ledger by 2020 - thanks in part to the information technology revolution. We also learned how to generate loving bliss neurophysiology when and as we want this, in most wonderful ways, and societies in a parallel way became very compassionate around this time, supporting their citizens in most ingenious and wondrous ways. Creativity measures of people in all 7,099 living languages flew off the chart - such thst new ways of assessing this, not yet thought of, had to be invented.

Writing, writing, writing ... would love to learn your thoughts ... will book flight soon.

L,
Scott

How might this work at World University and School and in its online OpenCourseWare-centric Medical and Law Schools in all ~200 countries' official languages, and for teaching purposes, both remote robotics and actual? And especially in remote places where surgery is needed - such as in Africa and Australia - and on ships?

Carl:
I was just thinking of you as I ran across a lengthy bulletin in an old file.  It is a tentative catalog and introduction to "Friends World Institute," later FW College, where I worked in NY, fall of 1965.  If you would like to see it, keep it, I could send it to you.  Just let me know your best address now.

Scott:
Thank you, Carl! How interesting! And how easy might it be to photograph this with smartphone? (Would love to add a digital vrrsion of this to the WUaS Library Resources' page with time!:)

Carl:
Would be about 20-30 pages, probably a bit too unwieldy for me anyway.  Easier to just post it.

Scott:
Thanks for thinking of WUaS and Quakers' educational history (and for being on the WUaS Board!) ... need to get a WUaS Library Resources ' smartphone APP working for such digitizing ...and in all 7099 languages ... Scott MacLeod, PO Box 442 Canyon, CA 94516 ... Thank you, Carl!

Scott:
Just emailed you :)

Carl:
I'll send it off asap.  Pretty busy just now.

Scott:
Thanks, Carl!
Thank you, Carl! Need to see if a smartphone app exists in the MediaWiki Wikipedia universe to archive such (Friendly) resources. Look forward to reading this and maybe even digitizing it to WUaS's library resources in English!

Carl:
I'll be interested to hear your reactions and judgment of usefulness of this bulletin for WUaS.  Keep in mind that what I just sent was sort of a trial balloon back in 1965, since the college was just then going into actual operation.  I know that the planning committee (NY Yrly. Mtg.) then had been working for some years to get to this stage in order to open the doors to students.

Scott:
Would be interesting too to see how this history unfolded in a realistic virtual earth with time slider, and even as an historical reenactment :) thank you

Hi T Tomato,

Here are three resources on the Blockchain ledger, which could unglamorously be as significant a technology re this "Society, Information Technology, and the Global University" course (http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html) as computing, microelectronics, and telecommunications, as well as the genetic engineering revolution (as the four main technological focuses of this course):

Re
Blockchain ledger resources (about which you'll find more, undoubtedly)

1
"Anonymized Health Token (AHT)" -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeoYOyqOZ00 (and I've engaged this video a bit here - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/10/gloriosa-genus-stanford-medicine-grand.html - and in one or two other blog posts - all re online Medical Schools with the blockchain ledger for health data ... and here's a post from 2015 focusing on the Blockchain - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/12/sand-dollar-in-big-picture-of-planning.html - with some Wikipedia definitions).

2

3
"Blockchain for Business - An Introduction to Hyperledger Technologies: A primer to blockchain and distributed ledger technologies. Learn how to start building blockchain applications with Hyperledger frameworks" - an edX course
Re
Eudaimonics' related article and information technology and re Gates and Jobs - https://eand.co/techs-biggest-challenge-yet-8156486fd022 - re the Steve Jobs' and Bill Gates' video interview only in some ways (Jobs is barefoot in this picture :)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvhW8cp15tk

And here's my "Eudaimonia (personal flourishing) is 'Flow' and Bliss" - http://scottmacleod.com/EudaimoniaFlow.htm - which I mentioned relatedly.

Concerning next week's class and your riffing with writing an introductory paragraph to your 5 page research paper, I could see specifically inquiring about how the Blockchain will be revolutionary within the context of the course, then how it might articulate with a cryptocurrency not only for financial exchanges - re the economy side of this course - but also for health data which will complicate things, but also as part of an Universal Basic Income, where "universal" could be said to have a societal aspect to it (per this course), and re major WUaS Universities in all ~200 countries' official languages - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States - with law schools, law students, and computer science Ph.D. students to do all the coding of the blockchain ledger. "I want to argue / suggest that the blockchain ledger represents a further paradigm shift in the information age ... " is the kind of thesis I think is helpful in writing an academic paper, because it allows one to back this up with points / paragraphs / and evidence, say in 3-5 further paragraphs. But your research question may inform your argument in a very different way. And a good thesis (Castells' thinking is full of theses / arguments which are disputable) could be argued against ... or the evidence / points you back up your argument with, could support a very different thesis too - which makes for the art of writing a social science / economics/business paper. In some ways I'm looking for a well-reasoned (re logic questions) paper (and there are some 3-4 page papers here - http://scottmacleod.com/papers.htm - which I wrote at UCSB some years ago, which are closely reasoned, some of which I could share with you, if that would be helpful, re the kind of paper I in this course am looking for).

Cheers,
Scott

CURIOUS how to engage a kind of behaviorist theory re schedules of reinforcement (e.g. re Harvard's B.F. Skinner, about whom I've blogged about recently in three different blogs) to explain, for example, these three behaviors:

- photo sharing, much from social media, of mostly cat pictures, but pictures in general on smartphone computers, among mostly female musicians at Scottish Country Dancing on Monday evenings in Berkeley,

- warm hug between great long time friends also at SCD, musicians who were sitting next to each other, one female the other male

- photo sharing of grand daughter baby photos in utero on smartphone?

What would behaviorism say about this collection of behaviors - or could be extrapolated from to say / explain - say in terms of schedules of reinforcement?

*
Behaviorism re schedules of reinforcement can inform learning so profoundly ... but while I could hypothesize that the above pleasurable behaviors could be a kind of "grooming" in higher primate senses (how could we create experiments about this?), and Skinner used behaviorism to work with "delinquent" behavior, behaviorism isn't really a theory generalizable to the above phenomenon.

Minutes for Nov 18 2017 World University & School Monthly Business Meeting

Present:

-       Larry Viehland (Board Chair and CFO/Treasurer of World University and School)

-       Scott MacLeod (President, Clerk, Recording Clerk of World University and School; And Founder/Facilitator of the emergent WUaS Corporation as it forks from World Univ & Sch)

Minute 1

World University and School would like to inquire if Stanford Medicine and Law could create CC OpenCourseWare (like CC MIT OCW in 7 languages) in ~200 countries official languages for online WUaS Medical Schools with online teaching hospitals, and online Law Schools (perhaps bringing together here the 5-10 international Stanford law projects, under one World University and School umbrella)

(Scott MacLeod has been invited to give a Stanford MedicineX talk about this in April 2018).

Minute 2

In the WUaS forking process, A) World University and School (a 501 c 3) would like to inquire if Stanford could run the B) WUaS Corp (a general stock company) in ~200 countries and 7,099 living languages as academic markets, and for Stanford Law to send WUaS a check

Minute 3

As acting secretary and president of the WUaS Corporation (where Julian Dumitrascu in Romania is the CEO), the WUaS Corporation will schedule a Board Meeting to consider how best to allot WUaS Corp shares and minute this.

Minute 4

Friend/Quaker Tim Schwartz, who was potentially interested in becoming the WUaS Corporation's first CFO is not able to become Chief Financial Officer at this time, he recently let me know, due to other work commitments.

Loving bliss neurochemistry generation and behaviorist theory/operant conditioning re schedules of reinforcement? How? What experiments? In a realistic virtual earth with species?

How could behaviorism study this collection of behaviors in terms of pleasurable music-making musician social group generation, community building, social bonding, and even communitas generation re communication - or what could be extrapolated from this in terms of schedules of reinforcement?

(all re http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/11/myosotis-three-resources-on-blockchain.html)

*** AND ***

Curious how to create an operant conditioning chamber in a realistic virtual world for experimentation with virtual species re learning and schedules of reinforcement (which would also inform or correlate with a physical operant conditioning chamber).

Curious too about the actual-virtual relationship re behaviorist STEM studies and operant conditioning, - and the above example of Scottish Country Dance musicians and pleasurable connecting generation.

Curious too how psychology students at World University and School at home and with their computers could begin to create rigorous behaviorist and operant conditioning learning experiments online and in front of their computers.

Hi Henry,

Thanks, you too! How was your Thanksgiving? And how are you?

I'm fascinated that Walmart is now carrying my "Naked Harbin Ethnography" book - https://www.walmart.com/ip/Naked-Harbin-Ethnography-Hippies-Warm-Pools-Counterculture-Clothing-Optionality-and-Virtual-Harbin/672874383 - and not sure how this happened.

Would like too to teach a course reading my Harbin book with Tom Boellstorff's "Coming of Age in Second Life: An Anthropologist Explores the Virtually Human" (Princeton U.P. 2008).

Bipedalism: "Naked Harbin Ethnography" Chapter Titles, Summaries and Table of Contents, for MacLeod’s "N.H.E.: Hippies, Warm Pools, Counterculture, Clothing-Optionality & Virtual Harbin," Boellstorff’s Coming of Age in Second Life, Chapter summary comparisons

https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/06/bipedalism-naked-harbin-ethnography.html

(And am teaching the first matriculated-class course for World Univ and Sch this autumn as well - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html - I'm glad to say).

Am applying too for a MIT Media Lab faculty position by December 1st, and in part with planning to create a realistic virtual earth / Harbin - tinyurl.com/p62rpcg - as ethnographic field site, for STEM research (at the cellular and atomic levels), and as a classroom for World University and School's ~200 emergent CC MIT OCW universities in these countries' official/main languages -
https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States - which is WUaS's new wiki (with Wikidata as a backend in its 358 languages). (And as you may know, World Univ and Sch forked and created a new startup WUaS Corporation as well this year).

Sincerely,
Scott

Hi Voidwalker, (Luca, Tim, Lydia) and All,

Thanks for inviting me, Tim, to the Wikimedia office hour about 10 days ago focusing on Mediawiki usernames - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T179832 - (with some further notes from this meeting here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/11/hoya-monthly-business-meeting-for-wuas.html). It seems that co-developing the Mediawiki "username" space somehow in conjunction with World Univ & Sch's plans for a 7.5 billion people could make much sense and re "You at WUaS" - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/You_at_World_University - and for WUaS registration/matriculation and much more - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/932666422433521664.

Voidwalker, how best to proceed with the Mirheze Phabricator workflow space - eg https://phabricator.miraheze.org/T2276 - in developing the WUaS SUBJECT TEMPLATE - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/SUBJECT_TEMPLATE - and planning for all 7.5 billion people in this SUBJECT TEMPLATE?

I was glad too yesterday to learn of and read through this new "blockchain in education" publication from the EU - http://publications.jrc.ec.europa.eu/repository/bitstream/JRC108255/jrc108255_blockchain_in_education(1).pdf - since WUaS seeks to develop with the blockchain ledger not only for a cryptocurrency with the blockchain ledger with an Universal Basic Income (again planning for "UNIVERSAL" for 7.5 billion people, and organizing around the Nation States' universities - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States ), but especially for developing the blockchain for education.

Voidwalker, gain, having attended this Mediawiki "username" meeting, how best please to proceed with the Mirheze Phabricator workflow space for developing the WUaS SUBJECT TEMPLATE Miraheze Mediawiki? Thank you.

All the best, Scott

Hi M,

Just emailed DAVID the following, which you might find interesting.

"Thanks for your email. Too bad we'll miss each other in DC, and looking forward to seeing you over Christmas in Pittsburgh. Re Cuttyhunk ...

(Am curious if and when World University and School begins to grow significantly, and if I can become the 170th richest person in the world by the time I'm 100 years' old, whether I or WUaS might be able buy - if they ever came on the market - Winter House, the Avalon, the Fishing Club and the West End, and turn them all into either local historical districts, and/or turn the west end into a NRDC Natural Resources' Defense Council-informed - i.e. the best public oriented land conservation / protected natural area / national park-like open space - and OPEN to the public as a resource ) ... and for historical re-enactments in the local historical districts (eg of Gosnold's time, the 1870s, and of "hippy Cuttyhunk" in the 1970s?:) both actually and virtually ... and, in the West End, ethno-botanical re-creations e.g. of the 1600s, and of 10,000 years ago ... and when it was glaciated or under water too ... Too bad many of the other Elizabeth Islands are closed to the public since they're privately held.

Just brainstorming here ... I agree that Cuttyhunk doesn't want the kind of development of Winter House which you, I think, for example successfully spearheaded earlier this year.

Applying here for a MIT Media Lab faculty position again - application due by Fr Dec 1.

Will give Tym my greetings from you, if and when I see him in DC over New Year's."

How's your day going, M? :)

L,
Scott

YOU'LL find this email to Dario and Wikidata and Wikicite in the above Google group, as well ...

Hi Dario and All,

Thanks, and per your "My thoughts on why we need a class to describe “(bibliographic) item collections” in @wikidata and @wikicite. Feedback welcome" - https://twitter.com/ReaderMeter/status/934204071870742528 (see reply here - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/934570933372588032 ) - I wonder how to add a further "VIRTUAL PLACE-BASED" component to this - beyond Wikidata geo-coordinates - since such collections (e.g. in all 8,444 entries in languages per Glottolog eventually, and over all history and pre-history) may become so numerous with time - given Wikimedia's mission of all knowledge - such that organizing such (bibliographic) items in collections within a realistic virtual earth (think Google Streetview/Maps/Earth with TIME SLIDER and group build-able like Minecraft) - e.g. for where an artist made such art works in the 1600s, or for museums that have numerous items of such a collection now, but didn't 100 years' ago ... and even eventually with avatar bots painting these again - may have much merit. (Wiki CC MIT OCW-centric World Univ & Sch is planning ALL Libraries and ALL Museums in each of all 8,444 languages in such a realistic virtual earth with TIME SLIDER).

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Ants, Hideaki, Koh and Scot,

Sounds like nice Xmas and Hogmanay (meaning New Year's Eve) gatherings ... if it's before the 23rd or after Jan 2, 2018, I hope I might join it.

Hideaki, per our conversation at Thanksgiving, I searched on Immunology in MIT OCW and found this among a number of courses -
https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/health-sciences-and-technology/hst-176-cellular-and-molecular-immunology-fall-2005/ -

and searched on HIV and found this also among a number of courses -
https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/biology/7-342-sweet-discoveries-unraveling-the-complex-world-of-sugars-in-health-and-disease-fall-2014/ -

Curious how immunology and studying HIV further - and perhaps re people's hair (will laboratory tests emerge for people to test their hair from home I wonder?) - will develop in a realistic virtual earth at the cellular level ... (in conjunction with the Streetview level for all bodyminds / organisms of ALL species ) ... think Google Streetview/Maps/Earth with TIME SLIDER and group build-able like
Minecraft re Lego / and SL / OpenSim, but realistic ... Check out the Electrostatic playground -

Scot, Koh (http://cfar.ucsf.edu/people/koh-fujinaga), Ants, and Hideaki (http://hairlab.ucsf.edu/people/hideaki-okochi-phd),

Thanks, Scot, and nice to meet you again Hideaki.

While I probably won't apply for the Wikimedia design position (I don't have much of a background in design per se), here's the MIT Media Lab faculty position I'm applying for -
https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/11/cuyahoga-valley-national-park.html (at bottom) ...

And in the blog post from the day before, you'll find the link to my "Naked Harbin Ethnography" book carried by Walmart ... not sure how it got there, but it's a remarkable success :) for the new Academic Press at World University and School -
http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html (planned in all languages with machine translation), nevertheless - to get it listed in the mass market of Walmart, and on their virtual shelves. Hoping to be creating, however, a massive number of academic jobs in all said languages at WUaS with time. And re a Japan World University and School - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Japan - ( https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States ) - but in Japanese with CC MIT OCW-centric free-to-students' online degrees.

Thanks again, Koh and Ants, for bringing our Thanksgiving together at UCSF!

Cheers, Scott

Thanks for the feedback, Carl! Just added these sentences to http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/11/red-kite-planning-for-all-75-billion.html ... Thanks for being on the World Univ & Sch Board again!

A Quaker friend, Carl Thatcher, from Portland, Oregon, texted me recently about sending me a catalog for the "Friends World Institute," later FW College, from 1965, and here are our texts, with some innovations re libraries at World University and School - and with a focus on idea sharing.  An Application for Smartphone Photographing and  Digitizing such sources to WUaS Libraries in all 7099 living languages, with correct licensing would be great - maybe this already exists in the Wikipedia / MediaWiki / Wikidata universe  ...

Friendly cheers, Scott

*
Then, yesterday, Tues., Nov 28, 2017, Carl and texted in conversation on smartphones further:

Carl:
No contest.  How could a historical reenactment match or shed any pertinent light on the actual events,  now some 50 yrs past?

Scott:
I see digital avatar bot historical reenactments, Carl, as  potentially shaping different and richly complementary historical interpretations with historians interpretations' of texts, BUT even texts together in new ways in a realistic virtual earth, in all libraries and museums in 8K languages will facilitate new historical interpretations together with other digitally informed approaches to history.

Here are some examples of archaeological historical reenactments in video game form with avatar bots from thousands of years ago http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/04/peacock-spider-archaeology-in-video.html?m=0 which are suggestive of the potential here

Thank you too for the FWC catalog which came yesterday in the post (US mail system), Carl!

Carl:
Good news, Scott.  Perhaps some of that FWC founding material can serve as a resource for you and others in your efforts.  That's my hope.  But my real view now is from a much more pragmatic, immediately political necessity:  How can we active visionaries in this current time save our society from these goons, the folks out to destroy cultures, peoples, ecosystems, even the earth itself and any semblance of peace upon it?

Archeological simulations with bots in all 7099 languages won't do it, or get anywhere close.

Scott:
Haverford, Swarthmore and Earlham alumni haven't yet either!

Carl:
I do still cherish the ideas, though, of world-focused education and cultural diversity for all who are open to it.

Scott:
Moi aussi

Carl:
Imperatives of this urgent time must take priority!   Fruitful discussions must occur to determine what those measures could be.

Scott
I do think major universities in other countries can develop long term discussions in these regards differently from goon USA today, although the MITs and Stanford's of the USA, like the Quaker  do continue to  carry on such conversations despite east coast goon citydom.

Carl:
Yep!  Indeed!
Was just watching the last chapter of Ken Burns' history of the Vietnam War--almost a paradigm of how US mythology with huge megalomaniacal militarism can screw up the world.  But now, several wars later, we're at it again.  That's why I think that radical measures with peaceful (AVP? - Alternatives to Violence Project) strategizing are called for. But a global outlook must be a part of that focus.  In that re-visioning, world education will be essential.

Scott:
My beats per minute app just popped up, not sure how, said 0.0 ... methinks you might be a bit of a beatnik too :) haven't seen Ken Burn's Vietnam yet, only a 30 minute intro (http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/09/java-pangolins-did-vietnam-win-against.html) .. looking forward to it ...

As an aside, I think the way (for WUaS scholars too) to digitize this great Friends World College catalog, or any text around the world, easily is to smartphone photograph and then save it to an unlimited Google account at World Univerdity and School - info@worlduniversityandschool.org - then connect this with emergent library resources -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Library_Resources
-  newly emerging "backend" at WUaS, then add it as a link in the Quaker wiki subject -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Quakers_-_Religious_Society_of_Friends
- especially after we move this to the new wiki here -  https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States Thanks for thus beautiful catalog, with people's signatures in it ! .... what a Friendly inspiration !

Carl:
Thank you for your ideas and plan--all good from my old-guy perspective.   I just hope that collectively your grand vision has the propulsion,  the energy to persist and thrive in this strange new world.
We desperately need good representation for progressive visions to, as Jesse Jackson put it, "keep hope alive!"

Scott:
Curious further, as an example and experiment, how licensing would work with this catalog - so that WUaS could inform matriculating students in all ~200 countries' official languages.
For example, since this 1965 publication has no Copyright, I'd hazard that if I photographed it, saved it to unlimited size Google account affiliated with - info@worlduniversityandschool.org - that I would choose something like a CC-4 license for it (share, adapt, but non-commercially) rather than a CC-0 license which has a "commercial" attribute, where someone could theoretically use this text or part of it, and then write a publication that they would then sell in a bookstore. Just a thought ... this publication might help to further change the world with Haverford, Swarthmore and Earlham students using it in their Ph.D.s or law degrees at World University and School ... :)
Will photograph and post its cover here soon - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/11/eos-genus-historical-reenactments-in.html - (but not sure how to save to a different gmail account than the one I'm currently saving photos to!)

Glad to learn unambiguously that Wikidata is CC-0 licensed re WUaS Corporations' planned Bookstores/ComputerStores - https://worlduniversityandschool.org/BookstoreComputerStore.html (see, too: http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/10/giant-pumpkins-wuaspress-is-glad-to.html) - in 299 languages (and re CC-4 MIT OCW in 5 languages) re World University and School, Lengthy clearing Wikidata email thread conversation - "[Wikidata] An answer to Lydia Pintscher regarding its considerations on Wikidata and CC-0" (e.g. https://www.mail-archive.com/wikimedia-l@lists.wikimedia.org/msg29050.html) ...

Dear Lydia, Mathieu, Nicolas and All,

I'm seeking a clarification here to "An answer to Lydia Pintscher regarding its considerations on Wikidata and CC-0" re the implications of CC-0 licensing for Wikidata say in comparison with CC-4 licensing.

If CC-0 licensing allows for commercial use -
"Once the creator or a subsequent owner of a work applies CC0 to a work, the work is no longer his or hers in any meaningful sense under copyright law. Anyone can then use the work in any way and for any purpose, including commercial purposes, subject to other laws and the rights others may have in the work or how the work is used. Think of CC0 as the "no rights reserved" option " (https://wiki.creativecommons.org/wiki/CC0_FAQ ) ...

... and, by contrast, CC-4 licensing (say by MIT OpenCourseWare in its 7 languages, for example, - where its CC-4 licensing allows for "sharing""adapting" but "non-commercially"), what would CC-0 Wikidata licensed databases allow for commercially? Since Wikidata, or Wikisource or Project Wikicite in particular, for example, are licensed CC-0 licensing option, could (CC) Bookstores, for example, use this CC-0 licensing, in all 295 of Wikipedia's languages, for the books in their (online) bookstores? (Also are there any data, or sister projects, affiliated with Wikidata that are not CC-0 re https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Lydia_Pintscher_%28WMDE%29/CC-0 ? )

Thanks,
Scott

Mathieu, Lydia and All,

As a further clarification:

I just looked up Wikipedia's license at bottom here - https://www.wikipedia.org/ - and it says it's CC-3 ((CC BY-SA 3.0)) - https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ - which allows for commercial use.

Wikidata.org's is CC-0 ( CC0 1.0 Universal (CC0 1.0) )
which also allows for commercial use.

Wiktionary doesn't seem to list a license on its front page - https://www.wiktionary.org/ .

( By way of comparison, both MIT OCW and MIT OCW Translated courses, which now seem to number 4, having recently lost Portuguese and Persian, use a CC-4 license ... ( 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) )

Noncommercial means:
The NonCommercial (“NC”) element is found in three of the six CC licenses: BY-NC, BY-NC-SA, and BY-NC-ND. In each of these licenses, NonCommercial is expressly defined as follows: “NonCommercial means not primarily intended for or directed towards commercial advantage or monetary compensation.”Oct 15, 2017
NonCommercial interpretation - Creative Commons

(World University and School donated itself to Wikidata in 2015, but since WUaS is CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare-centric in 5 languages, WUaS obviously doesn't donate CC MIT OCW).

Here's more about CC licenses:

Are there ways that Wikidata or the Wikimedia Foundation might develop further the Wikidata CC-0 license in conversation with Creative Commons organization itself (as an alternative to license laundering or license migration over time)?

What kind of license is Wiktionary, as a Wikipedia/Wikidata sister project, likely to list on its front page in the future, especially giving its relevance for a universal translator, and for Wikimedia's Content Translation?

I'm grateful so much thought has gone into these CC licenses - and that there are such a variety of them, some explicitly international.

Cheers,
Scott

Thanks, Denny, and All,

Glad Wikidata is CC-0 re Wikipedia's now 299 languages:

"This is the list of the different language editions of Wikipedia; as of November 2017 there are 299 Wikipedias of which 288 are active and 11 are not."

... and that MIT OCW is CC-4 (in now 5 languages), where its NC seems to offer a kind of competitive advantage re other kinds of structured data networking.

Curious where Wiktionary will head in the future with its stated licensing on its front page - and even re GNMT.

Best regards,
Scott

Scott,
The NC license clause is problematic in a number of jurisdictions. For example, at least in Germany, as I remember from my law classes, it also would definitively include not-for-profits, NGOs, and even say bloggers, with or without ads on their sites. One must always be careful in the choice of a license in order to avoid unintended consequences.

As I remember the May-discussion, it was just a discussion in the office,

old memories, so what happen first and what happen next should not be taken
to be facts. If Markus also says the same it is although a reasonable
chance we have got it right.

As to the questions about archives on open discussions with the community.
This was in April-May 2012. There was no community, there were only
concerned individuals. The community started to emerge in August with the
first attempts to go public. On Wikidata_talk:Introduction there are some
posts from 15. August 2012,[1] while first post on the subject page is from
30. October. The stuff from before October comes from a copy-paste from
Meta.[3] Note that Denny writes "The data in Wikidata is published under a
free license, allowing the reuse of the data in many different scenarios."
but Whittylama changes this to "The data in Wikidata is published under [
http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/ a free license], allowing
the reuse of the data in many different scenarios.",[4] and at that point
there were a community on an open site and had been for a week. When
Whittylama did his post it was the 4504th post on the site, so it was
hardly the first! The license was initially a CC-SA.[8] I'm not quite sure
when it was changed to CC0 in the footer,[9] but it seems to have happen
before 31 October 2012, at 19:09. First post on Q1 is from 29. October
2012,[5] this is one of several items updated this evening.

It is quite enlightening to start at oldid=1 [6] and stepping forward. You
will find that our present incarnation went live 25. October 2012. So much
for the "birthday". To ask for archived community discussions before 25th
October does not make sense, there were no site, and the only people
involved were mostly devs posting at Meta. Note for example that the page
Wikidata:Introduction is from Meta.[7]

Ishvara, Sajjad, Alexa, Peter B, Eric and Heartsong (and Julie, Elaine and Rasul at https://cynefinwriters.com/about/), Prem and Jon,

I'm writing to send you all a copy of my "Naked Harbin Ethnography" book in digital form - with original covers. Thank you for permission to write it, Ishvara, vis-a-vis the interview you gave me in 2008. And thank you for your thoughts about publishing it, Sajjad, in the pool area a couple of years ago.

And thank you again, Ishvara, for the interview you gave to me back in 2008 in your home on Harbin property, and in preparation for my Harbin book; and thanks too to Julie Adams for permission to write my Harbin book (whom I talked to about this in person in her office near the Warehouse), in 2008 too, I think. Thanks too to Peter Braun / Ganesha Das for signing off on all the Harbin photos as an employee of Harbin/HCC in the summer of 2016 (in two phone conversations, and in email), and to the other people/Harbinites who gave permission for me to use their photos in my book.

Ishvara, your great interview (with me) is in the book, as you may know. I'm including my friend Ed in this email - who bought my "Naked Harbin Ethnography" book when it first came out. And Sunheart has been a great Harbin friend over the years, as well as a great informant for my actual virtual Harbin anthropological book "Naked Harbin Ethnography: Hippies, Warm Pools, Counterculture, Clothing-Optionality & Virtual Harbin."

If Harbin carries paper copies of it when its bookstore reopens in 2018, "Naked Harbin Ethnography" retails for $64.95 so Harbin would make around $26 for each book HCC sells (if I get you the copies). It's beautiful enough to be a coffee table book too.

I'm glad the WUaS Press's first book product has recently been carried online on the VIRTUAL SHELVES of Wal-mart - https://www.walmart.com/ip/Naked-Harbin-Ethnography-Hippies-Warm-Pools-Counterculture-Clothing-Optionality-and-Virtual-Harbin/672874383 (in addition to Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Naked-Harbin-Ethnography-Counterculture-Clothing-Optionality/dp/0692646132 ) - which is a real success for the Academic Press at World University and School, in terms of reaching a bunch of new potential buyers.

And I hope to publish another book of Harbin-inspired mostly 'Haiku-ish" poetry this autumn ~

Hi E,

Glad to have heard back from Harbin's Peter Braun / Ganesha Das, who gave permission for his Kirtan photo and some others, and signed off on the other mostly social media photos, in relation to my "Naked Harbin: book to the letter in this thread (but the other email thread to a bunch of Harbinites). And he concludes to: "Perhaps we'll bump into each other on Opening Day."

Hmm ... what did Ishvara's email intend? ... and when's Opening Day, and might I/we head up to Harbin then?

How was your day? And how are you?

Fondly,
Scott

Congratulations on the book and thanks for the digital copy!

To be clear, the only authority I have or had in "signing off" on photographs would pertain to those already in the public domain or specifically any from my extensive collection of vintage Harbin postcards. It doesn't appear that you used any from my collection although I appear in a photo receiving a watsu from Inika and leading a kirtan in the Upper Stonefront.
And I was particularly pleased and amused to see Hans' picture of my Studebaker as the "Harbin Mobile" in the final pages.

I hope the book does well.
Perhaps we'll bump into each other on Opening Day.

MIT Media Lab Faculty Application,
Stanford MedX Proposal for April 2018

*

Nov 19, 2017

Dear Dean,

Nice to see you at the TSWG talk on Friday at UC Berkeley. (I'm seeking to give a TSWG talk in the spring sometime - perhaps coinciding with Harbin's re-opening - if there's space schedule-wise). I appreciate greatly your thinking in general.

I'm planning to apply for the following MIT Media Lab faculty position - https://www.media.mit.edu/posts/tenure-track-faculty-search-general/ - (accessible from https://www.media.mit.edu/about/job-opportunities/) with the application due December 1, and in relation to my Actual-Virtual Harbin/Earth project, ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy as new STEM and social science method, as well as wiki World University and School in MIT OCW's 7 languages.

For the three referrers the application requests, I'm planning to ask you (and Nelson, and Larry Viehland, who went to MIT, and who is Chair of the Board at WUaS, as well as CFO - and acting CFO of the newly forked WUaS Corporation).

This World University and School related wiki Media Lab subject page -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Media_Lab_at_World_University_and_School - for example, which is planned in all 8k languages, for example, will help help my application, as will WUaS's CC MIT OCW-centric universities planned in all ~ 204 countries' main and official languages - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States - for CC OCW-centric free university degrees (and much much more at WUaS as will my long-term actual / virtual Harbin/Earth ethnographic comparative project, especially on the virtual side), as will WUaS's planned in the 7,099 living languages as wiki schools for open teaching and learning.

If by chance I get this job, I'd love to stay half of the year in the SF Bay Area for ongoing Harbin field work and as a MIT Media Lab faculty member.

(My grandfather went to MIT in chemical engineering in the 1920s and had a number of patents on fatty acids, to his name).

May I please share your name and contact information with MIT as a reference for me?

Thank you,
Scott

*
Dear Scott,

I’ll be happy to provide a reference for you. Just let me know the addressee and deadline when the need arises.

My grandfather, Earle Edgerly MacCannell got BS degrees in architecture and engineering from M.I.T. around 1910. He went on to become the Chief Architect for the Washington State Park system during the Depression.

Have a good holiday.

Dean

Thank you, Dean, Nelson and Larry,

Interfolio has let me know that you, Dean and Larry, have added reference letters yesterday and today, and while yours, Nelson and Larry, are there from last year, I haven't heard from Interfolio, Nelson, that you've added one recently.

Thank you all so much for writing these references!

I've recently updated my papers' page - http://scottmacleod.com/papers.htm -  and my new CV (which I'm also attaching), as well as with the links to both of the 3 Tourism Studies' talks I've given in the UC Berkeley anthropology department in 2012, 2015 and 2017.

Thanks, I'll check it out, Heartsong ... what if the whole world of 7.5 billion people, as plan, receives an universal basic income nation state by nation state in the form of a cryptocurrency with blockchain ledger on smartphones, and replacing the international dollar or their local currency - and as a way to create an international / intelligent currency (early like the Euro became for ~26 out of 28 nation states recently)? I wonder if this would be considered de-monetization by him too?
