The "new G+" seems to have dropped the support for more than two columns. So it's back to the bad old days of 50% gray horizontal space. Because clearly there is no better use for it.
Maybe google doesn't buy their engineers any good monitors, and so they haven't learnt about that whole 4k screen thing? But the old G+ at least gave me three columns.\

The idea here could be a kind of Princess Leia projection, for example, as real virtual avatar ...
Leia Organa's holographic message for Obi-Wan Kenobi (from Star Wars).
See, too:

Could these avatars as kinds of "light robots" step out of the screen eventually?

Avatar agency as defined by the Turing Test?
A totally fascinating possibility and scary too.

I'm excited for the time too when we may be able to code SQL (structured query language), for example, with VOICE and in multiple languages in Wikidata and beyond Google Voice and Siri ... which we will be even easier with brain wave headsets in the future, anticipating adding avatars of our imagining, without language or gestures.
