Teaching virtual Harbin as culture anthropologically, or how best to call this?

... re a 2nd University of Toronto Press published Harbin book in its "Teaching Culture" series, and re virtual Harbin and for undergraduates, for ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy...

People and Hippies did what they wanted at Harbin in the 1970s and 80s coming out of the 1960s ...

How will this develop in a virtual Harbin (in Google Street View?)? (will probably suggest pasties for nudity in virtual Harbin) ...

... think I'll hold off on exploring ideas for this second book at present ...

Hi C, J, D and R,

Curious here about how writing an interesting book about an interesting place like Harbin, and how publishing it, can lead to prosperity ...

I'm attaching chapter 7.

The next steps toward online publishing of my Harbin book are becoming clear.

Create a near perfect PDF file of it (then a perfect one) in Google Docs (eventually for 'snippet' or 'limited' view online in Google Books, with wide distribution reach online, and eventual machine translation) first moving/ editing it in(to) GDocs (which is G's Word Processing software) from its current location in MS Word. I'll probably do this in GDocs here from this email - <sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org> - and then let you all have access to this as well.

Take the PDF and publish it in a new WUaS Academic Press - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Academic_Press_at_World_University_and_School -  (by writing this Press' name on the main page etc), in print-on-demand probably in Amazon's self-publishing software called CreateSpace -https://www.createspace.com -
and also for the Kindle thru related software -
http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1000234621 - for an extra platform. Are these most sensible DIY publishing platforms at this time from your perspective, C?

Then print some copies to paper too.

This creates a new WUaS Press (but not yet a WUaS bookstore - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Bookstore_/_Computer_Store_(New_%26_Used)_at_WUaS).

Will try to edit today chapters 7, 8 and 9, then complete 9 and begin to add photos (and seek/make a good faith effort to contact people in the photos I've found online about using them) tomorrow, then once in GDocs (which is G's word processing program) with photos, index it, pour over it editing it again and again until it's perfect copy, then publish it on Valentine's Day.

How to raise production values in editing and printing and publishing? (R very helpfully caught one pronoun inconsistency in the multimedia virtual world scene in chapter 1or 2, John may have good ideas/edits, and C may have good ideas publishing-wise about raising production values).

Happy Hogmanay!  :)

Scott

C,

Thanks very much - I'll aim to use the Georgia font in all likelihood. I'll send you and other friends later today an email with chapter 7 about the steps I see ahead as unfolding steps re this DIY Academic Press at WUaS publishing process. These include a) Google Docs into a finished PDF - (then possibly into b) Google Books) - c) CreateSpace (Amazon) - and/or here perhaps to d) Google Books (for eventual machine translation, or from the PDF in GDocs) - and then further into e) Amazon software for the Kindle.  Does this sound about right to you?
