Govind
Govind, and Universitians,
Fascinating again and thanks ... "As MOOC Debate Simmers at San Jose State, American U. Calls a Halt" ... http://chronicle.com/article/As-MOOC-Debate-Simmers-at-San/139147/ ...
WUaS would like to offer the complement / contrast to MOOC's by engaging the Conference Method per Reed College - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Conference_Method_of_Teaching_and_Learning - in a Google + group video Hangout - http://www.google.com/+/learnmore/hangouts/.
And, in terms of faculty, WUaS would like to begin to hire graduate student instructors to teach via the Conference Method in concert with MIT faculty in these MIT OCW video and audio - http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/audio-video-courses/ - eventually hiring, as WUaS's finances improve, Professors to teach undergraduates like Reed does.
What this article also implies is that the SJSU / Udacity collaboration with credit for online classes is still in effect ... which is great precedent for WUaS seeking California State approval for online education with the the legislature and BPPE.
WUaS monthly business meeting meets this Saturday at 9 am PT in a Google + group video Hangout.
Best,
Scott

Govind
Govind,
Fascinating ... "Coursera leaps another online learning hurdle, partners with Chegg and 5 publishers to give students free textbooks" ... http://thenextweb.com/insider/2013/05/08/coursera-leaps-another-online-learning-hurdle-partners-with-chegg-and-6-publishers-to-give-students-free-textbooks/ ... and Coursera seems to be able to afford providing free textbooks to students ... Who knows whether Coursera will always be free and they don't yet offer degrees.
Creative Commons' licensed WUaS's MIT OCW-centricity - http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/audio-video-courses/ - prescribes the reading lists that WUaS's bookstore plans to carry and would be necessary for overachieving students to buy.
WUaS students will have to decide whether they want to buy 32 courses of books, and related knowledge generation, for a free MIT-centric WUaS education.
Will look to add this to WUaS.
Best,
Scott
Scott:
I don't think there has been a week where I've so many MOOC-related items cross my inbox!
http://chronicle.com/article/Debate-Over-MOOCs-Reaches/139179/?cid=at&utm_source=at&utm_medium=en
Govind
Govind,
Thanks, again ... "Debate Over MOOCs Reaches Harvard" ... http://chronicle.com/article/Debate-Over-MOOCs-Reaches/139179/ ... seems to inaccessible behind a pay wall ... and not yet available at the DPLA - http://dp.la/ - (and WUaS's Library Resources can't yet afford library subscriptions such as the Chronicle of Higher Education ... http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Library_Resources).
Looking forward to seeing you at business meeting tomorrow in a Google + Hangout.
Regards,
Scott
Govind, and Unviersitians,
Re Govind's and my MOOC article conversation, the beauty of MOOCs so far is that they are free, like MIT-centric WUaS ...
Here's another MOOC article (thanks, Peter Norvig) -
"Learn for Free with MOOCs: Massive open online courses may help your career, but don’t bank on them for credit - yet"
which I'm adding to my blog entry from today - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2013/05/baiji-yangtze-river-dolphin-govinds-and.html - DRK grant proposal is in yesterday's blog entry here, and at WUaS's blog.

There appear to be enough courses in Mandarin and Spanish to begin to explore accrediting in those languages, along with English, for an undergraduate degree, with WUaS first, matriculating class applying this autumn by January 1, 2014, and matriculating online in the autumn of 2014 … very exciting, and amazing!!! :)

Here are new recent, wiki, subject pages at WUaS, - mostly languages and countries - and some MIT OCW Translated Courses' languages!, each of which will probably become an online university in the main languages of these countries -
Malaysia -
Azerbaijan -

Persian language -
Turkish language -
Thai language -
Oman -

Of the six, United Nations' languages, in which WUaS plans to deploy first, MIT OCW Translated Courses don't yet have courses in Arabic, French and Russian -
