Hello S and L,

...

Could you please tell me what was the latest status from the MediaWiki install?

Best Regards,

J

Hi Universitians,

Here are some World University and School information technology updates and questions for all of you.

Thanks for your email and inquiry, J. WUaS MediaWiki was installed on January 6 at the WikiMedia Developers conference in SF thanks to WMF Foundation engineer R K in English and Wikimedia Germany/Wikidata engineer J Z in German, and worked fine for some months.

WUaS's web site - worlduniversityandschool.org - was down on our host site (G.com), where WUaS MediaWiki is also installed, for ~ 12 hours on April 23, for an unknown/obscure/unclear reason per our host.

And WUaS MediaWiki stated "Forbidden" on its approximately 10 pages, on around April 8th, explanation unknown, Wikimedia Foundation/MediaWiki contacts / support unavailable apparently, and has been down since.

That's the current status of WUaS MediaWiki installation.

Wikidata is just beginning to produce its own simple wiki "front end" pages which may, I hypothesize, draw from the work of the SF-based WikiMedia Foundation's MediaWiki work, but not directly involve MediaWiki itself.

In talking with L yesterday - and in that our current 3 main platform plans are

1. Wikidata in ~300 languages (to which we donated WUaS last autumn),

2. QuickBooks (which was donated to WUAS as a 501 c 3 non-profit in the last month for an annual admin fee) and other Intuit applications like multi-store and TurboTax in many languages and countries, and eventually with probably Bit Coin and Block Chain, and

3. Google Classroom which we have for free, and Google's free ecosystem (http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/02/fauna-of-scotland-will-googles-free.html), and for which we are Google-verified ...

WUaS's current goal is to re-vamp our main page - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - with 17 year old students as applicants from around the world in mind, first in English, and probably informed by something like edX and Stanford and MIT's undergraduate application web sites.

But WUaS doesn't really have the web skills, or Dreamweaver program, for example to upgrade the web site very well at all.

So I emailed both Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman of Google and now Alphabet, and Peter Norvig today, Director of Google Research, to inquire about further collaborations with Google in developing our front end. D.V., a Wikidata co-founder, a WMF board member, and a Google employee for years now, would ideally be helpful in coordinating WUaS in Wikidata with Google on the front end side, as Wikidata becomes the site for WUaS to add CC MIT OCW in 7 languages, and then give forth a wiki page system we'll add to our front end (possibly leaving MediaWiki out of the equation altogether).

Thoughts, questions, ideas? ... If Google can't help develop http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ with WUaS planning accreditation for students as they apply this summer/autumn, how can we best develop a "front end" team?

As L and I talked recently, I may baby step try further to develop http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ with edX in mind, so students could actually apply this summer/autumn, but a professional experienced front end developer - Google? - but especially greatest DESIGN, would be great and important. MIT/Harvard somehow?

J, how best to develop WUaS's http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ with 17 year olds in mind applying to accrediting WUaS this summer / fall?

Thanks again for your inquiry.

Best regards,
Scott

CC WUaS is adding CC MIT OCW in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC to CC Wikidata ... to develop this STEM OCW with machine learning, machine translation and for course catalogs in all languages - (http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/04/cornus-florida-how-to-further-make-cc.html)

Blockchain holds key to reinventing energy grid

Solar technology and battery storage are important. But what has been missing is a technology on which to organize, co-ordinate and secure a true peer-to-peer power grid.

It's not clear to me, however, from this article how energy would flow through block chain, and re the Internet of Things (also at WUaS ).

Re real real time music jamming and also for playing online in the ALL instruments/ALL languages Music School at WUaS (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University_Music_School), it will probably be audio via telephone conference calling (given internet lag for group video conferencing, although musicians playing together electronically may still wish to have laggy visual cues - possibly on Android smartphones in Africa in Google group video Hangouts, for example).
