Hi M,

Here's a bit more about ranked choice voting - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/11/dorset-heaths-ranked-voting-and-world.html ... including ...

Opinion: Why Ranked Choice Voting Matters in Oakland

It will likely come into play in the race for the city council at large seat.

Keep experimenting with ranked-choice voting

Ranked Choice Voting / Instant Runoff

Ranked choice voting (RCV) makes democracy more fair and functional. It works in a variety of contexts. It is a simple change that can have a big impact.

2017 Legislation Advancing Ranked Choice Voting

The following list and map summarize bills that would expand the use of ranked choice voting in the United States, organized by state. This list will be updated throughout 2017 as more bills are introduced.

Much comes back to fair representation -

Fair Representation

Wonder how this can be extended with tele-voting? Physical PLACE - the polling place -  is still so central to fairness in voting in representative democracies, when we can so so much else online these days.

For example, Senator Tim Kaine, just Tweeted

And hopefully this will emerge as available information technologies in each of all Nation States as WUaS Universities ... https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States ...

M,

This article from Stanford Prof. Larry Diamond, and democracy advocate, on bringing back ranked voting to Maine just popped into social media (T) -
http://www.centralmaine.com/2017/11/05/jim-fossel-send-ranked-choice-back-to-voters/
- which you might find interesting. Any talk of "ranked voting" in Pgh? I heard a bit about it at Stanford Law a few months ago - it's very democratic, but also a bit more complicated - perhaps like
sports' statistics - so could conceivably lend itself to the internet ... but ... I found this Scientific American article from David Pogue on "When Will We Be Able to Vote Online? Other countries are bringing the democratic process to the digital age—but challenges remain" -
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/when-will-we-be-able-to-vote-online/
... and it doesn't look like this will happen soon ... too many ways for people to abuse the system ...

Could ranked-choice voting be a good way in for computerized and tele-voting - using its complexity to ensure fairness? ... and also to generate voter turnout and engagement due to ease of voting from one's smartphone eventually ... ?

And in a realistic virtual world with all ~200 nation states present in their official languages and with people too from their smartphones voting in these realistic virtual worlds?
