Hi Louise (who went to MIT as undergrad in neuroscience, NW for Ph.D. and is a Post-Doc at Stanford),

Great to meet you at Stanford Law.

...

World University and School has a language focus with regard to mapping the brain - eg https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/974088788354871296

You'll find various brain" related subjects here - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects - with much MIT OCW in them, upon which WUaS seeks to offer degrees online.

Regards,
Scott

Hi Scott,

Great to meet you as well! How long has World University been around and why did you choose this format instead of adding on to OCW, edX, Coursera, Udacity, etc?

It’s kinda funny that I took 6.002 with Anant Agarwal (you have YouTube videos on World University).

Best,
Louise

Hi Louise,

Likewise, and thanks for your email. World University and School has been around since about 2007, when I started teaching about it in a "Information Technology, Society and Global University" course I was teaching on Harvard's virtual island in SL, and it's grown from there, gradually. The CC-4 licensing of MIT OCW now in 5 languages (before in 7 languages) with Wikipedia's 298 languages (currently) just made sense to build from. Also WUaS seeks to offer online Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, and M.D. as well as I.B. high school degrees, in all ~200 countries' official languages - which would be free to students due to the CC-4 MIT OCW licensing. And OCW, edX, Coursera and Udacity didn't and don't seem to be heading in any of these directions. WUaS is very Creative Commons/CC-centric in a number of ways. And World University and School seeks to become the MIT / Harvard / Stanford / Oxbridge of the internet in all ~200 countries' official main languages, and in all 7,097 living languages as wiki schools for open teaching and learning.

Would love to talk further about the 6.002 course you took with Anant Agarwal. Anant is here in a video - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ :)

Would be interested too in talking with you, idea-wise (and re long-term planning), about mapping the brain with something like a brain wave headset for neural cascades of pleasure.

Best,

Scott

Hi Greg, Henry and Nancy,

Just came across this Neil Young documentary, which I think you might enjoy:

Nancy! (and Henry and Greg),

:) Nice to hear from you, Nancy. And happy guitar playing! Congratulations to your son. (And sorry to hear about your mother).

(You'll find World Univ & Sch's online music school part way down here - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects - but not yet in our new wiki).

And here's a recent blog post re "blockchain for artists" and much more - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/03/pyrite-cubes-in-nature-augmented.html.

Great to be in touch. Creative time here with two books published in the last 2 years, World University and School growing, and my Harbin project is a fascinating field site ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook  ~ ... .

Hi Henry, Nancy and Greg,

Nice to get your email as well, Henry. Are you by chance in Australia on vacation - in summer time - with L? Wow, and if so, how great! Congratulations to A too - Hoboken and NYC sound weirdly wonderful! (And my deepest condolences to you on the loss of both of your parents, Henry, and your Mom, Nancy. I'm very grateful my mother is still wonderfully engaged, and sad my father passed away in 2007 after a head injury on SAS in Belize in 2004). Was glad Pin came to visit last December in the SF Bay Area (from Baltimore) and to have met his cousin Gubito too - and to be in communication as well with Pin! Hi to Dan if you are out there on this thread, too. Lots of Shady Side Academy and Reed College and music here in this thread. Cultural milieus all? My actual-virtual Harbin ethnography focuses on counterculture in part ... and interprets Harbin as coming out of the 1960s - like Neil Young! Much meaning ...

Berkelee Music School / UC Berkeley ... just heard back yesterday from the MIT Media Lab that I didn't get a faculty position there (my blog has my application and re their looking for someone "Being an orthogonal and counter-intuitive thinker, even a misfit within normal structures" - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/02/papilionaceous-flower-orthogonal-and.html) ... and re World University and School planned as major universities in all ~200 countries' official languages, and as wiki schools for open teaching and learning in all 7,097 living languages. Have just inquired with two University of California professors (one who wrote the Foreward to "Naked Harbin Ethnography" book) if I could explore becoming a professor there. The 10 UC campuses are actually a great institutional model for WUaS's 200 online universities in all their official languages.

Good luck to L and A with what comes next - and meaning- as well as career-wise! If you're not in Australia where does Spring Break lead you this year, Henry? :)

Warmly,

Scott
