Dear Rebecca,
I saw your Tweet -
"one of the interesting things about this story is that there is no dispute as to whether this is hipaa compliant (it is) but people are very mad anyway" per https://www.statnews.com/2019/11/11/google-partners-with-major-u-s-health-system-gaining-access-to-vast-patient-data-in-the-process/ ...
https://twitter.com/RebeccaDRobbins/status/1194012092484870144 - posted at the top of Stanford Law Professor Hank Greely's feed - https://twitter.com/HankGreelyLSJU - and wanted to contact you about a realistic virtual earth for everything which MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School is developing. One goal of World University and School is to create online law schools eg https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/China_Law_School_at_WUaS and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Law_School in each of ~200 countries' official languages to teach (and contribute to writing) law with regards to this single developing realistic virtual earth (think Google Street View with TIME SLIDER / Maps / Earth / TensorFlow / Translate at the cellular and atomic levels, and with avatar bots of individuals and species as in group-buildable Second LIfe, but realistic, and planning, for example, for tele-robotic surgery in WUaS's online Medical Schools). All of this would inform developing legal questions with regards to health data such as that which Google just acquired in 21 states, and which your Tweet points to as well.
For further information about a realistic virtual earth, and CC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch, see, for example, the Law Schools' blog label in my blog here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/Law%20Schools.
How best to communicate further about this?
I hope to blog about some of this today as well. Thank you.
Sincerely, Scott

Wondering about the Harbin Hot Springs' gate house ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ ethnographically and this 'Google Starbucks' AI "Auld Lang Syne" episode' below
Am wondering about the Harbin Hot Springs' gate house ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ ethnographically and this 'Google Starbucks' AI "Auld Lang Syne" episode' below, I'll call this, yesterday ... and re questions of Harbin's new database for visitors / people who might be camping overnight, and later staying overnight in Harbin rooms when they get re-built ... and how this Harbin visitor database is developing. (Could Google be helping Harbin with this? ) And what kind of signals and communication with visitors could Harbin create with this potentially? ... if they could do what I think Google Starbucks did with me yesterday?
And what role could a realistic virtual Harbin play in this (am thinking Google Street View / Maps / Earth with people's smart phones and GPS information)?
Visit virtual Harbin Gatehouse here (there are currently 3 pictures of the gatehouse from different years) ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~

Episode:
'Google Starbucks' AI "Auld Lang Syne" episode' on 1/11/19 -
"Am curious how to get out of the Google AI loop besides by adding the disclaimer below ... just walked into Google Starbucks, and Auld Lang Syne into Joy to the World started playing ... Don't think I'll contact Peter Norvig about this, but Google usually thinks through how to let end users opt out of this kind of stuff ... so perhaps it's an indication of their not thinking this through ... or a new twist in their company's culture ... (if their AI could put together my smartphone with GPS on it, the name "Scott,' and arriving at this Starbucks and playing Auld Lang Syne ... seems plausible ... ) ... So I turned on this Steeleye Span -
https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=7PUogwLKJ54 (1975) - on my laptop which played "Long Lankin" ... where I find the words to many of Steeleye Span's ballads interesting, and a kind of history as well, and also which share an orientation to freedom from oppression even ..."

Dean MacCannell, if you were advising Harbin Ethnography actual-virtual Book Project number 2, what approaches would you take to these tourism to Harbin data questions?

This is a ridiculous take and stunningly disconnected from all the brilliant debates on history of data-science / history of #bigdata in the last years. #histstm

Dear Madeline,
Greetings from the SF Bay Area. I just noticed your Tweet on Rebecca Robbins' on her feed, and wanted to contact you in Chicago as well. (See my email to her below, from earlier today, re Tweets). Do you know Lillian Thomas from the City Desk of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - https://www.post-gazette.com/contact/editors - from 2014? She's a friend from my high school years, and I also know her family (and knew her father Clarke Thomas, who also was an editor at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette).
I'm writing to let you know about the Journalism wiki school at MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School (of which I'm the founder) - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Journalism and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Journalism_School - since you mentioned online an interest in data journalism. WUaS seeks to create wiki subject pages, see - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects - in all ~200 countries' official / main languages, for open teaching and learning (a bit like Wikipedia, which is in ~300 languages, - and WUaS donated ourselves to Wikidata in 2015 and received WUaS Miraheze MiediaWiki in 2017, but they're not yet interoperable; together these offer remarkable opportunity for data journalism, in brand new ways).
Since there isn't much MIT OpenCourseWare in Journalism that I can see e.g. - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/comparative-media-studies-writing/ - WUaS seeks to create course ware for this, and for credit eventually relating to WUaS's planned Bachelor, Ph.D. Law, and M.D. as well as I.B. degrees, - again in ~200 countries' main languages. (Harvard might have more to build upon in these regards).
I also want to mention planning for ...
The "Universitian" Newspaper at WUaS -
https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/The_%22Universitian%22_Newspaper_at_WUaS
- also in these ~300 Wikidata languages, and potetially in all 7,111 known living languages with machine translation. Since you were a managing editor at The Harvard Crimson, I wonder too whether you might be interested in exploring brainstorming-wise developing this further even?
How might we communicate further about all of this? Thank you.
Sincerely, Scott
