Thanks, Ma, for your odds & ends' email. Out walking now on the far side of the Monroes, overlooking Moraga, with new hypothetical news. Coronavirus pandemic is a constructor of laws, in all 200 countries, and began meme-wise in newspapers, idea-spheres (institutions, financial markets etc), due to significant lawlessness in the US, in China, in Russia, in Europe - and is emerging as a way to address this problem with governments around world creating laws, including esp new Code (code is law per Larry Lessig +) ... and which code includes the Google Apple coronavirus tracing App, andveven digital simulations of the 'mild' Covid-2-SARS virus. Beautiful evening, probably won't see a coyote again, but will let you know what I see. How was your day? And how are you? What's a flourishing digital community for your son, newly created I'm wondering, and pre having a family? :) See you perchance in the morning on 'virtual Cuttyhunk.' The foal is back with the 4 adult horses, and the cattle aren't around still. 2-3 weeks ago they seemed to be plump ready for market ... appreciating, here, the beauty of the evening and the views! :)

Chris Patten, last governor of Hong Kong: "We underestimate our strengths vis-à-vis Beijing"
https://www.lemonde.fr/
The imposition of a security law in Hong Kong shows that it is not possible to trust Beijing, believes Lord Patten, who managed the handover of the British colony to China in 1997. He sees in the fate of Hong Kong the illustration of the conflict between liberal democracy and authoritarianism that is playing out in the twenty-first century.

What I've been watching
Over the past week, I have watched the six-part HBO miniseries The Plot Against America, which came out in March. It is based on the 2004 Philip Roth novel of the same title and tells an alternative history in which FDR is defeated in 1940 by the fascist-sympathizing Charles Lindbergh through the eyes of a Jewish family living in Newark, NJ. Compelling story, well acted. It is the best piece of television I have seen in years.
