Hello Scott,
Thank you for your email and your questions.
- Verified Courses: All 3,000+ edX courses have the option for "Verified Certificates (VC)." This means that if a student pays the course fee they have access to graded assessments + certification from the university where the course is taken. This is compared to the "Audit Track" where students can watch videos at no cost.
- Grading: Each course/university sets its own level for the necessary requirement to earn a VC. This can be 65% to 80% graded required. Certifications are pass/fail but our admin dashboard provides access to see performance and grade percentage.
- Adding Content: For our instances of Open edX (edx.org), we have specific guidelines and costs for partners to contribute content to be featured on our website. For a student to see edX.org courses and WUaS courses, we recommend learners discover content on a private LMS platform like Google or Moodle. We have native integrations with Moodle, Canvas, and we will soon be offering Blackboard as examples.
- Partnership: Partnering with edX Online Campus means providing access to courses + services like integration, curation, etc for WUaS to offer programs.
Thank you again for your questions and I hope this information is helpful.Best regards,
MatthewOn Sun, Oct 25, 2020 at 3:17 PM Scott MacLeod <sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org> wrote: Dear Matthew,Thanks for your email, and for your auto-respond when I sent out the WUaS Minutes on Wednesday or so. I hope this email finds you well too.A few questions, and as WUaS seeks to expand our majors' list (and potentially with courses involving assessment of students in terms of what they've learned or come to know as a consequence of taking a single course), and which Larry is working on primarily:How many of the 3000 + edX courses, or 2000+ edX courses now available, are verified? And what does verified mean beyond - https://support.edx.org/hc/en-us/articles/360013426573-What- are-the-differences-between- audit-free-and-verified-paid- courses- (ie graded assessments ) ? Does the edX verified course system itself give the grade - and in what ways is the faculty member who created this course, or an assistant, involved in giving the grade? So, in what ways do verified courses each as a system give out grades? In courses that involve writing too, how would edX verified courses assess the writing by students (a 10 page paper even?)? And are all 205 (the number I had counted fairly recently) CC-4 MIT OCW > MITx courses 'verified courses'? WUaS's CC-4 MIT OCW-centricity is one of the significant ways that WUaS is going to communicate with governments' departments of education in all ~200 countries - probably via WUAS G Suite for Education - that WUaS has to be free-to-students in their countries - i.e. due to this Creative Commons'4 licensing "non-commercial" attribute. And in what ways too could WUaS best add our own courses to these potential 31 majors? Just checking out this - https://www.edx.org/subjects - further and re the list of 31 subjects, 'Social Sciences' - https://www.edx.org/course/subject/social-sciences - in which no Anthropology courses are listed, for example, but there are currently a few Anthropology courses listed here - https://www.edx.org/learn/ anthropology .Am curious how WUaS might add courses & majors further by adapting MIT OCW > WUaS Open edX for example, with these - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/ #anthropology. Am wondering also in these regards how to think about WUaS majors and in planning for the other 200 countries with courses in English ( e.g. some countries might not want what they consider 'politically oriented' courses, for example), whereas in their official main languages WUaS can take a different approach to majors. That said, WUaS is going to seek to study rigorously and compare how students learn across languages and cultures, potentially with MIT OCW - https://ocw.mit.edu/ - in its 4 languages, as a basis for translating courses. Am wondering too as a test case how to add my "Network Society and Information Technology" course - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv. html - to this? And what does partnering with edX Virtual Campus mean beyond what stated on the page? Might there be any way to dovetail this with WUaS plans to develop a single realistic virtual earth for STEAM or virtual Lego Robotics - https://twitter.com/search?q=%23RealisticVirtualEarthForRobo tics&src=typeahead_click (eg see too RealisticVirtualEarth) - as campus, and academic field sites, and in thinking in terms of Google Street View with time slider, Maps, Earth, TensorFlow etc. Thank you so much, Matthew.Best regards,ScottPSAs you may have seen in the WUaS Minutes, WUaS is seeking a profession G Suite Admin or similar:

Thanks so much for your email reply last Thursday (and below). In reading your erudite "Out of Africa" chapter on our origins genetially in "Brookline Thursday Club Essays: 1995-2016" this morning, I laughed when I read on p 58-59: "But on the whole genes are very Republican. They are stable and do not like change. Mutations are rare" ... and regarding our unstable rep. President? He could conceivably be voted out of office tomorrow. And could this recent "Biden is steady" article in the Boston Globe - https://www.bostonglobe.com/

Good morning, Ma,
A little bit of Yoga 😜 s food is good and generates wellness.
Long days over weekend, tired yesterday ... And now I have much more storage space, and much to unpack too. Glad to have gotten the wooden file cabinet lower part out of the road where it unceremoniously 'slept' on Saturday night, and that it works and also has now its top half bookshelves on it.
Sitting outside on garden patio watching the 3 bridges, and dark green mountainous Massif of Marin, and wondering what's swimming under the water in the blue SF Bay with its asymmetrical edges or shorelines, which is dark at night compared with all the lights below me (some of which are long oil refinery lights I think) and beyond, the lights in Marin (A FEW), and in SF - with its many lights. Below me is the river of Hwy I-80 going all the way across the country (to Teaneck NJ in the NYC met. area). Liking the cosiness of the garden patio perch, with little green lawn in front, and brown down-sloping lawn just beyond. Birds put on quite an aerial display sometimes in this theater with SF as backdrop. Flight is so amazing. How many species evolved to fly (out of 3-100 million)? A lot! ... It's been a successful natural adaptation and strategy (for gene replication).
WUaS News, Q&A (without Livestream to Youtube) this morning newly in Google Meet videoconferencing platform, which makes it possible for people to call in on their phones too, newly too, begins in ~1.5 hours. Last week Stanford Quechua instructor Marisol Necochea called in, and after talking she said she'd write edX's Carolina McGarity, whose first language is Spanish (& a Middlebury alum, whom I video conferenced with about 12-19 days ago, with another edX representative) about Spanish World Univ & Sch, and it seems as if she would bring Stanford in on the organizing of this too !!! (Thanks to John Hennessy? C'est possible, since edX CEO & MIT Prof of EECS Anant Agarwal was his doctoral student at Stanford). Am glad Marisol called in and am glad Stanford may be coming on board and for WUaS in Spanish in partnering with edX :).
The morning is bright, cool temperate and kinda meditative. Coffee out here on garden patio is cold, nearly gone, and time to email WUaS teams about upcoming meetings and developments :)
What do you have ahead of you this week? And how was your weekend?
A little brown bird alighted on grass in front of me, hopped up onto wooden planter and flew over to next one, then to a bush. Another bird just zoomed by on front across 'flight theater' ... How are your wild friends outside?
Love, Scott

Hi Scott,
Sounds like you had a very busy day yesterday. And glad you now have more storage space? Your view is so terrific. What a place to have meals, study, etc.
Sunny but cold here; a little snow on the ground, now gone.
Love, Ma

Thank you, Ma!
Snow on the ground, burr! Western Pennsylvania Yoga with cold winters are interesting for Yoga ... :)
Am not clear where, or how, storage space might be unfolding with Navin +
Am a bit of a Quaker presiding clerk in these Monday meetings - If you'd like to join the WUaS Q&A News, the Google Meet is open now -
https://meet.google.com/xog-hpey-vat
... as a kind of receptive organizer (and so glad Marisol last week brought Spanish, connecting with edX's Carolina McGarity for Spanish, and Stanford to Meeting:)
Stay warm!
Love,
Scott

Ma,
Sitting under the porch on the garden patio here, and near under its slight extension, is a bit like sitting in a cave looking out over the ocean ... This place is great for studying, for having meals. Could I even retain this as a study and living office, if I were to move again (back to Canyon in some months, if it were safe, and there were many people about)?
The south African caves around the
Blombos cave - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blombos_Cave - which I didn't visit when I was on Semester at Sea the 2nd time in 2005 (without you) and where some of the first known humanoid art has been found could have parallels with Arlington Blvd. Something about hillside caves and human dwelling near oceans come through time. Of only we could visit in Google Street View and VR this Blombos cave and the South African Fynbos!
This is lovely Vivaldi to my ear ...
Vivaldi - Amor Sacro (Motets)
Enjoy ...
Love, Scott
