Paradigm Shift?

... in the information age and between nation states, (such as between the US and China)?

*

Asked yesterday in an interesting Stanford-Harvard book talk about ""The Dragon, the Eagle, and the Private Sector" with a former president of Harvard, at its close, the following:

"How might the following 'Network Society' Paradigm Shift, as system, which has 5 aspects (below) inform relations between the 'Dragon' and the 'Eagle,' regarding your theorizing in the book, and regarding its building of the railroads +, as well as transparency +, - now thanks to the explosion of the Internet in economics, society, and governance?

Thank you so much for this excellent book and conversation, Scott GK MacLeod (sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org)"

Regarding collaborative governments and governance between China and the US, I'm reminded of UC Berkeley Professor Emeritus Manuel Castells' theses regarding the Information Age and the related 'Network Society' Paradigm Shift, as system, which has 5 aspects:

1. It's about information generation

2. It's pervasive - it invades & influences every domain of socioeconomic activity

3. It's characterized by networking: mentalities, companies, people network, & create synergies, based around knowledge generation

4. Flexibility is key - the system is such that it reorganizes, and reprograms its components, without disintegration

5. The technological convergence that has occurred is an integrating system (http://socinfotech.pbworks.com/w/page/30668686/InfoTechSoc4_2010FA)

(I realize Summers is controversial, regarding the following:

"What Larry Summers Said

Bowing to faculty demands, Harvard President Lawrence H. Summers on Thursday released a transcript of his controversial remarks on women and science. He did so while releasing yet another apology for those remarks and as the head of the Harvard Corporation released a statement backing Summers."

Let’s stop asking this q. of Telehealth versus in person like it’s a binary choice. The best models will be all the things. In home, in clinic, by email, by phone, by video, in community - and flexible, depending on the patient.

Stanford Law CodeX - 3/4/21 - [codex_group_meetings] TODAY! CodeX Mtg (3/4 @1.30p PT): WAL; Algorithmic Fairness; "May it Please the Bot" (via Zoom)

Dear Roland, Rolf, Paolo, Phillipp, Gabe, Jameson,

Thank you for your excellent and far-reaching presentations today which should appear here soon - https://www.youtube.com/user/stanfordlawschool/videos .

From related online questions:

*
Philllipp, thanks too for your US centric presentation - fascinating: How about taking a ~200 countries’ approach, in their official and main languages, and adjust models with time, based on developing societal contexts and history?

(And privately in Zoom -
Thanks for your great presentation, Phillipp - I’d be interested in following up in email. Would that be alright? (America is seeking to create justice for historical wrongs in an ongoing way - and with the emergence of AI). Thank you, Scott (sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org)

Further, the model of reifying or “thingifying’ certain fungible concepts and language, now with AI, is one of my concerns).

*

Thanks, Jameson and Gabe, for your great focus! Re Heidi Sass’s GDocs’ question, how best to plan for saving such legal judgments, and regarding, for example, (even) ~200 countries' governments (re planning for social justice in NLP here too, and comparatively), and creating some kind of independent entities (from a company, for ex.)?  The fungibility of digital data judgements compared WITH PAPER, for example, and such new kinds of legal judgments / decisions are at stake here. So, how to plan for Governments or independent entities to solve this? Universities? (Wouldn't governments be much better than companies and universities re social justice and fairness, newly with AI?)

And again,
Am glad to announce that -
MIT OCW-centric World Univ & Sch, in partnering officially with edX, is seeking to matriculate 150-500 undergraduates this autumn 2021 for free-to-students' CC-4 OCW-centric online Bachelor (4 year) degrees in English first, and newly WUaS PhD degrees online, too (Online law schools in each of ~200 countries and in their official / main languages to follow). All the best, Scott (sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org)

Thank you all so much!

All the best, Scott

Dear Roland, Rolf, Paolo, Phillipp, Gabe, Jameson,

Here's the Codex video which I just found posted -
CodeX Weekly Meeting | March 4, 2021
https://youtu.be/kRGRSKl87c0

... Somehow thiago.valente@meupaug.com.br didn't go through (incorrect email spelling? - & can't also seem to copy and paste the emails that presenters put into chat for some reason in some weeks recently)

Thanks Rolf for connecting in Linked In, and here's my related 'big' - regarding legal questions especially - question in response in LI, and regarding a single digital currency in all 200 countries to alleviate poverty via Universal Basic Income experiments, and planned for speakers of all 7117 known living languages, and then, brainstorming-wise for all 7.8 billion people on the planet:

"Thanks, Rolf, as well! With Switzerland's 4 languages, and cultures, and your spelling of Txs, possibly re taxes, it makes me think Switzerland might be a good place to focus on WUaS tax questions re our Law Schools + in 200 countries ... and maybe even re WUaS facilitating a single worldwide cryptocurrency, such as Stanford Mine Pi - and distributed via UBI experiments too - to alleviate poverty among all 7.8 people in 200 countries and in 7,117 known living languages - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/UBI see /Switzerland as well). Best regards, and thanks, Scott"

Thanks again for your email replies, and excellent presentations. Since MIT has neither a law school nor a medical school - to share its CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare courses (which CC-4 MIT OCW wiki World Univ & Sch is seeking to build upon) - WUaS is seeking to collaborate with Stanford Law for something like open course ware for our WUaS free-to-students' planned online law schools in all 200 countries (per Olympics) - and regarding the beginning online WUaS law schools I shared in the last email.

Best regards, Scott
Have blogged a bit about this, and more, here -
