1
credit for individual courses along the way to WUaS Bachelor's degrees - re WUaS certificates even
(ie 10 CC-4 MIT OCW courses per year for free 4-year WUaS Bachelor degrees is the idea here)

2
credit for individual courses along the way to WUaS Master's degrees - re WUaS certificates even (taking individual edX courses - and also maybe courses that MIT / MIT OCW / MITx may have developed during the past year of the coronavirus pandemic even)
(ie 10 CC-4 MIT OCW courses per year for free 2-year WUaS Master's degrees is the idea here)

2a
eventually for students who already have Master's Degrees to be able to register or apply for WUaS PhD programs -

Possibly courses to learn PROGRAMMING beginning this May 1 and with the Scratch language, and perhaps with Lego Robotics (where WUaS is an authorized carrier of 3 Lego robotics' kits - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html) and building on - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/experimental-study-group/es-293-lego-robotics-spring-2007/ - as https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Programming - as a way to get familiar with the edX platform, and have fun too with robotics - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Robotics.

English as second language courses this summer ...

Thanks, Scott

Pin, David, Rob, Susan, Happy birthday, All, happy belated or early birthday, Pin! :) ...

Following up on my email earlier today (and will probably blog about it tomorrow ... )

Friends' wise ... (re Peace Testimony too) ... and the argument that Manuel Castells makes that the nature of war has fundamentally changed due to the Information Age - pointing out that mortality in wars has gone way way down since the American war in Vietnam (where something like 60,000 Americans died, and 2-3 million Vietnamese died) due to the MEDIA (Americans saw pictures of body bags on nightly news) ... is compelling with this robotics' video too ... :)

Pin, does HHS have anything happening with robotics or holograms, and that might pop up on Twitter, for example, like this Tweet with HHS in it from MIT Prof. Rosalind Picard - https://twitter.com/RosalindPicard/status/1369848156087873536?s=20 - and these great and beginning-to-work health tech wearables with Empatica, for example, such as this watch with smartphone combo -
https://twitter.com/calimagna/status/1369842010736062466?s=20 - and - https://twitter.com/empatica/status/1369321563305222147?s=20 - that works for detecting influenza symptoms (and coronavirus cold symptoms ... re IN CASE OF EMERGENCY in the genetic engineering revolution that is unfolding ... re bioterrorism for example) ... The Genetic Engineering Revolution is the 4th key aspect of the information age (which I teach about here - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html) - and just coming on full steam since 1953 with Crick and Watson and Rosalind Franklin's discovery ... which we learned about at Shady Side Academy in the second half of the 1970s (except I don't recall reading about Franklin's contribution to this remarkable DNA research - eg, see: https://www.nature.com/articles/nature01399) ... along with about parody ...

Thanks for pointing out David that this pretty wild development in robotics - is a parody (which I emailed about on 3/2/21)

Drama with a #robotic lead

https://twitter.com/TerenceLeungSF/status/1366562922860670976?s=20

Again, it'll continue to take time to parse this one re robotics' developments (battery recharging-wise especially, if these are indeed physical robots, and not some kind of augmented reality :), - and does the humanoid robot running down the road with the dog robot at the end (and could this be like the Harbin Hot Springs' road even, and 'walk' down the Harbin road 4 'miles' from here ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~) run out of battery power after only a few steps ... that would be amusing indeed as parody of robotics' today :) ... where a parody is "an imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic" :) ... Glad we weren't observing a robotics' tragedy in the making :)

David, Rob, Susan, Happy birthday, All (and a bit belatedly or early, depending ...),

David, I found the video -
https://youtu.be/y3RIHnK0_NE - and the article you shared regarding the robots' parody fascinating ...
CGI VIDEO SHOWS MILITARY ROBOT FLIPPING A TABLE OF GUNS
THE VIDEO IS A PARODY — BUT THE SUBJECT IS DEADLY SERIOUS.
https://futurism.com/the-byte/cgi-video-military-robot-flipping-table-guns

I still wonder about battery life ... and from what I know about robotics and agency, robots are coded or programmed to do very specific tasks, and they have no agency (philosophically, as free action, or free causation or intentional intervention) and can't have any at this point in history ... yet this programmed drama is pretty compelling as parody ... and could be an eye opener messaging or communications' wise even to other countries for example (and re Manuel Castells' book Communication Power" 2009/2013 )

So here's the Spot Mini robot dog again -
Boston Dynamics' SpotMini can  autonomously navigate an office space & climb stairs: http://bit.ly/2Iyebe4

https://twitter.com/MIT_CSAIL/status/994979618963755009?s=20

And here it is again in a Tweet I did a year or two ago, but with even Lego Robotics for WUaS MIT OCW-centric courses in mind at the high school and the university levels, and BOTH Actually AND Virtually, and for the interplay or conversation between the physical and the digital for example, and re learning programming (even with the MIT Media Lab's Scratch drag and drop programming in its many languages, and since it works with Lego Robotics - ) -
And while this is training data for obstacle avoidance I think, it gives one a great idea for an emerging Actual-Virtual Realistic Virtual Earth

What about holograms too? ...

Holography is the science and practice of making holograms. A hologram, also known as a holograph, is a real world recording of an interference pattern which uses diffraction to reproduce a 3D light field, resulting in an image which still has the depth, parallax, and other properties of the original scene.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holography

And here's a pretty good MIT article describing the current state of Holography -
"Using artificial intelligence to generate 3D holograms in real-time:A new method called tensor holography could enable the creation of holograms for virtual reality, 3D printing, medical imaging, and more — and it can run on a smartphone. http://mitsha.re/uFO350DWksm "

Have you worked with computer science and programming holograms at all, David? (And happy belated birthday, Rob, again, especially!)

Still a pretty wild development in robotics, and as parody ...

Will take a bit to parse this one further re robotics' developments (battery recharging-wise especially, if these are indeed physical robots, and not some kind of augmented reality :), - and when die the humanoid robot running down the road with the dog robot at the end (and could this be like the Harbin Hot Springs' road even, and 'walk' down the Harbin road 4 'miles' from here ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~) run out of power :) I hope they're both ok :)

Warm regards, :)
Scott

The WUaS bookstore / computer stores / robotics' stores are authorised carriers of the 3 Lego Robotics' kits, including the new Spike Prime! I don't think I can buy Lego Spike Prime with my 622 Stanford Mine Pi currency yet, but I hope to eventually perhaps :)

For your free cryptocurrency, which is mineable daily, you can begin to get free money daily with the Stanford Mine Pi cryptocurrency now. Use this code -  sgkmac - minepi.com/sgkmac

Good to be in communication too here, and re other recent emails, Hugh, (to Rob, you, and all, for ex.).

Just added some comments to these photos - https://photos.app.goo.gl/6E8GUDW4W6f6aVBJ8  - and learned that Jerry Gabay seems to have passed away in 2020. Curiously, he was a navy seal, and I think this obituary may be somehow partly false, since it omits this information - https://obits.oregonlive.com/obituaries/oregon/obituary.aspx?n=jerry-gabay&pid=195728424 - although I only knew him very little, as a Quaker in Portland Oregon, and with Turkish background, in a Quaker Meeting there I was attending from 1979-1987 or some. (I worry a little about this passing, since it could have been, with his Turkish heritage especially - and his integrity too - racially motivated even somehow!). I've added the comments to the pictures below, and invite you too to add comments - another form of social media ! :)

Some of these pictures are from Pittsburgh, with a good one of Hugh! Some are of Stanford, and one is of the ridge across Indian Valley where I lived in Canyon 94516 for 12 years until fairly recently (staying in a 'safe house' now, I'll call this, just north of Berkeley).

Please add comments, all, if so inclined, - as a new form of social media :)

Thanks again for your email, Hugh!

Dear Hugh, Ma, Jerry, Ed,

Some photos of you and related from 2014-2015 + 2021. Not sure who the person is, or what what the algorithm is, in Google Photo, that chose these -

Some are from Pittsburgh PA over Xmas, including the bench remembering my father in Mellon Park in Pgh. Others are from Portland, Oregon, I think (Jerry?). And others are from the SF Bay Area.

Fond regards, Scott

Thoughts about social media strategies? - ... ie for good (and re ethics, morality and similar - am a Castellian in broad strokes here and regarding alternative social movements that arise re countering power, for example ... see his "Networks of Outrage and Hope: Social Movements in the Internet Age" in these regards) - and even regarding developing AI and machine learning?

Hi Rob, David,

Nice to talk, Rob!

(Interestingly, Twitter just introduced a feature that pops people up to the top of the smartphone Twitter screen - allowing me to unfollow them, if I so choose, which I'm doing; are they all illegals somehow - could be - and which other large social media cos never built in as a feature, but could even FB's MZ have suggested to Twitter's JD that this would be a good idea for Twitter, and could Twitter have learned from other's mistakes? C'est possible ... all speculatively ... am tuning into ethics' questions in a variety of ways regarding the information technology revolution and society even - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethics and see /Society and IT label too:).

Thanks for talking!

Regards, Scott
