I'm so so glad too to have gotten yesterday a publisher for my first Harbin book, it seems. ...

I just heard back twice yesterday from Duncan R at Berghahn Press in Brooklyn, NY, - who seems to be my editor now there - all of which also seems to be very good news indeed in terms of publishing my Harbin manuscript - which would come out next year (Oxford/New York:Berghahn Books 2016?) in time for university courses' syllabi I hope. :)) What's more, Berghahn Books specializes in publishing sociocultural Anthropology. I won't know for sure for a few more weeks though. For your interest, I'm posting my correspondence with Duncan, along with my related email to Fred, whom I know from UC Berkeley and Tourism Studies here, at bottom.

Try clicking on the first link and "walk" - with "Big Foot" steps - from the Harbin Gate into Middletown for a visit there:

Dear Duncan,

This sounds like good news indeed. Thank you.

If you'd like, I would send you a PDF of my 400 page draft "Naked Harbin" manuscript.

Also, here are 2 further questions:

When would a new ethnographic text need to be in print to be selected for anthropology courses at universities worldwide in autumn 2016? If this is about a year from now, say in July or August 2016, some professors might add it to their syllabi as a required text.

What also are some of the characteristics of ethnographic books that sell 10,000 print copies in a year - if these are a "group?"

All the best,
Scott

Dear Scott,

This is a pretty unique project, and I’m excited to get into it more over the next few weeks.

Unfortunately, our time horizons are a bit too long to allow us to publish a book by this autumn. Realistically, we might expect a publication date set next autumn, barring any major manuscript revisions or unexpected delays.

All the best, Duncan Ranslem

Dear Duncan,

Thanks so much for letting me know that Berghahn Press is gathering comments about my actual/virtual Harbin Hot Springs' book proposal.

My first questions are: if Berghahn Books accepted it for publication, is there a possibility that we could publish it this autumn? And what would that entail?

I couldn't think of a better press to publish with than Berghahn, since you specialize in sociocultural Anthropology.

Thank you!

All the best, Scott

Dear Scott,

With apologies for the delay in replying, it¹s a delight to receive this proposal, which looks fascinating. Please allow us several more weeks to gather comments and give the material full consideration. In the meantime, please don¹t hesitate to be in touch with any questions or concerns.

All the best, Duncan Ranslem

Dear Marion,

Greetings from the San Francisco Bay Area. Professor Nelson Graburn at UC Berkeley suggested I send you my "Naked Harbin"
book manuscript proposal some time ago.

So I'm writing with regard to an actual-virtual ethnographic book manuscript proposal about Harbin Hot Springs, a hot
springs retreat center in northern California, which emerges in many ways out of the 1960s.

I've attached a) Berghahn's book proposal outline, as well as b) a letter, CV, table of contents, chapter outline and c) a sample chapter.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.

All the best, Scott

Thanks, Fred,

Writing a 400 page manuscript is a project worth publishing.

I'm also interested in writing a second Harbin book and with a virtual Harbin for STEM research based on making a virtual Harbin, in a kind of film-realistic interactive buildable Google Earth, such as here - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/07/jerdons-courser-visit-harbin-gate-now.html.

With your Ph.D. from Yale, what anthropology books come to mind that have sold 10,000 in print?

Scott
