Realized dream of Oregon trail at Wisdom Creek Ranch ...

Harbin Hot Springs' New Planned Landscape (after the major fire of Sept 12 & 13, 2015)...

The Dragon Gate at Harbin ...

*
Hi M,

As I was approaching the Wisdom Creek last night, I realized how affectionate - a kind of care and love - I feel toward my uncle, and as neurophysiology, which brain chemistry has emerged over my decades of visiting them in eastern Oregon since the 1970s, mostly since attending Reed College in the early1980s.

A and I were talking last night about cemetery headstones re Dad’s on Cuttyhunk and Ted and Mary’s in the Pioneers' Cemetery relatively near at Wisdom Creek Ranch in eastern Oregon. Dad’s reads “Non sine lumine” – Latin for “not without light” - as you know. A and I were talking about what might go on T & M's head stones for after they pass … I observed that they realized a vision and A observed something like they lived a dream … so how about something like “Realized dream of Oregon trail in Wisdom Creek Ranch”?

L,

Scott

How might both Wisdom Creek Ranch as tree from and Harbin Hot Springs as hippie hot springs' retreat center emerge as part a virtual earth such as in Google Street View with time slider?

All of this would be part of a virtual classroom in a virtual earth with time slider and planned in all languages at WUaS, and also for STEM ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy,  and sustainable tree farm planning, for example in the case of Wisdom Creek Ranch.

What's a Artificial Intelligence culture, say, emerging from MIT or Stanford or Google, Amazon, or IBM re "WUaS seeks to generate a best STEM CC OCW, all languages, Friendly decision making, Stanford, high achieving, AI one"?

*
What would an ethnography or anthropology of a startup best STEM online university's emergent artificial intelligence look like or how would it read (such as WUaS)?

Since MIT and Stanford are still place-based, they AI cultures will be difficult to characterize ethnographically emerging partly out of their Computer Science departments.

Google Brain and related Tensor Flow projects perhaps aren't that far enough along to inform a cultural milieu vis-a-vis the rest of Google's ~ 50,000 employees and end users worldwide?

Wikidata's community and related Wikipedia communities are a good jumping off place with regard to some of these questions.

Here's one definition ...

"the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages."

As I envision this relative to WUaS's plans for all 7,097 living languages, it's in the interlingual communication space that the coders at WUaS create, mediated by developing AI, as well as what students and learners generate between each other as online culture or discourse which will be significant here, and especially ethnographically.

*
Ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy will be further significant here in helping to give form to AI, and especially STEM-wise in all languages.

American frontier: ongoing vision of realizing the Oregon trail, Reed College

Thursday, June 9, 2016

Hi M,

As I woke up at 3 with the sounds of the radio (BBC) until 4, and then it coming on and off again until now, I wondered what raising my hypothetical kids will be like when they're very little and wake up in the middle of the night for long spells, and as an individual (re G.A. M.D.'s Lacanian psychoanalytic psychodynamic view within modernity re families - and re using language, where for Lacan the mind is structured like a language, so use language well to communicate). I'm someone who really values and benefits from, in recent years, 9 hours of sleep at night.

Re the ongoing vision of realizing the Oregon trail, this morning was a media expression of it within the B. family, (which I hope to develop further in a virtual earth with time slider and as I apply for a MIT Media Lab junior faculty position) as I finish indexing my first harbin book. Having come out to Reed in 1979, partly possibly as I think about it now, as a further family expression of realizing the Oregon trail, and wanting to have a family myself, I wonder how best to navigate these waters of family-generation (having kids) with good nights of sleep, and in the context of a healthy subculture (in the information age). Here in terms of culture, I'm thinking of the Bs and Ms, where I live, Cuttyhunk, India, Friends/Quakers, musical subcultures / Harbin, California, the U.S. eastern seaboard, and the culture my wife-to-come/mom-to-be bears (and her proession) with her/elicits/creates around her, and what we can create in these regards too, with writing such as here too, for example.

Need to get more sleep, but may see C and her kids today, drive to Portland, go to a dance performance at Portland State that Carla (former housemate and Reed professor of dance) and fellowship with choreographers are producing.

Challenging family dynamics are interesting to strategize from, through and to learn from (longer term ones too - glad we have a post-Lacanian, post John Moneyian language for this), but it was nice to talk with D.R. yesterday from the front porch of the B's at the ranch and I'm looking forward to seeing them next Wednesday around 9:30 pm. I hope too John Paul is heading over in the afternoon, so I can visit with the Rs.

It was also nice to visit with B friends here, but the dynamic of the ranch is different with Mary gone (whose passing I mourn). And while I was so glad to see T.B. (and bring him to thev anch and back), I miss his not being here. I'm glad never the less, the vision for the Oregon trail carries on with A living here now.

What great family dynamics (and with great careers I'd like to try to contribute to the conversation with my kids successfully about) is it possible to co-contribute too in my upcoming family? Both myself and my wife may benefit from talking/thinking practice about such questions - re online psychoanalysis (? at least methods and techniques for such talking/learning exist which have about a hundred year history) with great theoretical underpinnings (this is more of a challenge re ) given life's realities and family dynamics.

Nice to get your email yesterday which I shared with my cousin A. They're looking forward to your visiting.

I think I liked G's philosophical bent (he was a thinker and smart), and that this can possibly have been lacking along the Oregon trail along with a related thinking culture (India is old and different as are Quakers to some degree), albeit opportunity and beauty too were realized in this adventure and journey.

How are you?

L,
Scott

re
Hi M,

As I was approaching the ranch other night, I realized how affectionate I feel toward my uncle, and as neurophysiology, which has emerged over my decades of visiting them in eastern Oregon mostly since the 1970s and then attending Reed College and visiting T and M in the 1980s.

A and I were talking the other night about cemetery headstones re Dad’s on Cuttyhunk and Ted and M’s planned one in the Pioneers' Cemetery near Wisdom Creek Ranch in eastern Oregon. We were talking about what might go on their head stones for after they pass and I mentioned that Dad’s reads “Non sine lumine” – Latin for “not without light”. … I observed that T and M realized a vision, and A observed something like they lived a dream … so I wondered with Annie about something like “Realized dream of Oregon trail in Wisdom Creek Ranch” ... for their headstone (which isn't quite right but is a relevant idea).

I'm glad to have been able to bring T to the ranch yesterday from GRR. And T's old friend, C J and his fairly new wife, Emily, just road their tandem bicycle from Union to the ranch. Very nice to visit with them over lunch.

A's out doing hay, I'll attend a meeting online in 30 minutes re my "big project," and then probably bring T back into La Grande. Tomorrow A and I will head to Pendleton, where I think I'll get to see D. and F., I'm glad to say, then head on to a Reed reunion. Looking to meet a friend/partner/wife and mom to be ... (and someone like Emily who's 25 years younger could be a good fit - maybe at Reed).

Ted said you're coming out here on June 20th, I was really glad to hear. He seems pretty well all told.

L,
Scott

*
Hi M,

Greetings from Lincoln Hall in Portland.

I've already visited Reed, checked in, and got my room.

So nice to see S.B. this morning, and help him get some tools from the ranch to plant some vineyards, and fix a fence, on his next door property. He's an alcoholic says A, but seems pretty well otherwise. I got to be arbitrator in a communication between them, a little scary at first because it happened suddenly. :)

Ted seems quite well all told, to repeat, and I'm so glad I saw him.

Glad too you're coming out to visit soon.

The dance is about to begin :)

L, Scott

*
Good morning, M!

Liking the friendliness of Portland, Oregon!

Carla's dance piece (in Summer Splendor http://nwdanceproject.org/show/summer-splendors-2016/ - http://nwdanceproject.org/people/carla-mann/) was really great! too yesterday evening - (and with many women attending this performance ... will I find my MD wife at something similar dance-wise in the SF Bay Area?) There's something however about the ethos of Portland last night that could be special about meeting a friend/partner/wife/mom-to-be.

Here's some lovely flute music from native American traditions (Navajo - Ute) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19nm5_nAwQg.

Good luck preparing for your travels to visit the Bs - so glad you're heading there.

How are you and what are you up to this weekend?

L,
Scott

*
Texted this, among other items, to Reed College friends of mine from the early 1980s now living in many places, during the reunion:

Still a poor Reedie, think I'm gonna purchase "The Gary Snyder Reader" (1999) from the Reed bookstore. Its intro by Jim Dodge begins "As the Secretary of Foolishness in the Gary Snyder Appreciation Society, and as a Reverend in the Reborn Again Taoist Dirt-Pagan Church of the Ravishingly Real, I'm loath to preach to the choir ..." Were we here together at Reed when Gary Snyder gave the keynote at the 100th Anniversary? :)

Connecting with Reedie Gary Snyder's poetry as well as the library and a Reed Calligraphic tradition has been inspiring this reunion.

It seems even on this list we each have our own landscape of non theism (and Friendly-wise here) ... and glad to read this knowledge-oriented and sociological approach to non-theism - and thus as possibly nonthestically Quaker - in this Pew report you shared -

"My impression is that Atheism continues to be a very tiny part of the religious landscape in American. I thought this comparison of 2007 and 2014 PEW polls was interesting: http://www.pewforum.org/2015/05/12/americas-changing-religious-landscape/. In 2014, it found 70.6% of the U.S. population identified as Christian and 22.8% identified as Unaffiliated. Of the unaffiliated, only 3.1% identified as Atheist.  While this poll doesn’t help break down the large majority of Unaffiliated who do not identify as Atheist, other sources point to a growing “Spiritual but not religious”...."

I appreciate the possibility for our little NtF email subcutture/community to create in ongoing ways new understandings of atheism within the context of Quakerism.

Re both "grace" and "soul" translations, "inner light" is reconstru-able for me in non-theistically Friendly ways anew ... without the theistic connotations ... but how to get to these experiences of these far-reachingly in terms of brain / bodymind chemistry isn't at all obvious since sitting in Meeting - even with its harmonizing of this chemistry re meditation and a de facto relaxation response - does not always deeply center down "grace" or "soul" as "inner light" or release "loving bliss neurophysiology" - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Loving_Bliss_(eliciting_this_neurophysiology) - in my experience.

Hi M,

Sounds like you have a very nice trip coming up, and so glad that T will be at the ranch for all 3 days that you're there (although as A says, it will be a lot of work:)!

I may explore composing a 16 or 32 bar piece for Scottish small pipes, flute and trombone and seek to play this in a fundraiser next June 2017 with C and S. Music-making was fun on Monday night.

Re my call to you from Ashland, Oregon on Sunday, and your call back ... The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and hippies (in 2016!) in the Ashland Food Co-op in a small southern Oregon town are an interesting co-development, even kind of from the Oregon trail, don't you think? New plays may already have emerged there from this dance... And here's a view on the history of the Shakespeare Festival there ... https://www.osfashland.org/about/our-history.aspx ... which began in 1935, and with the building, and talk of re-building, of a dome as a stage - https://www.osfashland.org/en/about/our-history/ashland-and-the-festival.aspx - as a Chautauqua building (and as a precursor to 1960's and 1970's folks in Oregon - (eg http://www.sfgate.com/entertainment/article/60s-spin-on-Shakespeare-warms-up-Winter-s-Tale-2804512.php).

It seems that British-informed theater and stage in English have in part probably attracted an alternative set of folks going back centuries, as history changes, - if only because people could put on different clothes and explore interesting roles created by writers? :)  What hath Shakespeare wrought with his playwriting?  (See, too: http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Shakespeare,_William and http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Theater_Arts at WUaS).

I've heard that some Harbin folks moved to Ashland after the Harbin fire of Sept 2015 too.

Applying now for the MIT Media Lab junior faculty position among much else in preparing to depart for Cuttyhunk today. Moving on from the "L"s in indexing my Harbin book, and getting the minutes out further from my big WUaS project and monthly business meeting on Saturday.

Have a great trip to Oregon, M!

L,
Scott

As I return to the east coast, 50 years or so after the 1960s (and its sexual revolutions) and 150 years after Darwin,

I wonder about sexuality as human primates ... and in modernity and the information technology age.

These are some of my current narratives about them, and comparatively especially with humans (but see these blog for other related narratives; I'm not a primatologist, but an anthropologist interested in the highest primates closest to us and what we can learn from them)...

Bonobo chimpanzee - very sexual in many many combinations or ways, peaceful/nonharming, matriarchal and egalitarian

Common chimpanzee - have alpha males, have intense aggression between groups that can be lethal, possibly primitive war

Orangutan - semi-solitary (very smart)

Gorilla - harems? ... most similar to the modern nuclear family (see Castells in this blog too, sociologically)?

Humans - fluent language users, symbolic, STEM-centric ...

High Sierra Lake: Content is king on the web, WUaS Achievements, Successes and Accomplishments re applying for a junior faculty position at MIT, a kind of "brag letter"

$
0
0

Dear Ji,

Here are some of my achievements, successes and accomplishments re my applying for a junior faculty position at MIT, as a kind of "brag letter."

It's been said that content is king on the web, and my big CC World University and School project - http://worlduniversityandschool.org - wiki-facilitates content generation in all 7,943 languages + and with developing AI, machine learning, machine translation. I'm also proud that WUaS's virtual earth/reality and STEM-research will seek to wiki-generate content and data at the Google Street View level, the neuronal level and the nano level, with regard to a new methodology I'm developing called ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy, where STEM researchers in all languages will be able to add their research, videos, computer modeling and many other aspects of their research. I'm also proud that CC WUaS is CC MIT OCW-centric in its 7 languages, and planning free CC accrediting degrees - undergraduate (BS/BA), Ph.D., law, M.D. as well as I.B. high school - in all 204+ countries' main and official languages. In an UC Berkeley law course this spring as a pro bono "client," WUaS developed an extended correspondence with MIT Assistant Dean of Online Learning and former executive director of MIT OCW, Cecilia d'Oliveira, and further determined that CC WUaS can both "share" and "adapt" CC MIT OCW's ~2300 courses in English and its other courseware in 6 languages anew and develop them with AI, machine learning and machine translation databases. What a lot of interactive highest quality STEM content this will generate, and, again, in all 7,943+ languages.

As you may know, WUaS in addition to sharing and adapting for free  especially CC MIT OCW in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC highest quality university courseware for CC degrees, is a wiki, like CC Wikipedia and is planning to develop in CC Wikidata, which is Wikipedia's 3.5 year old database developing with AI, machine learning and machine translation. I think it's also far-reaching how much content and data WUaS may generate by "wiki-fying" CC MIT OCW (making it editable) and thus facilitate potentially all 7 billion people to teach alongside MIT OCW and potentially in their 8,000+ languages. Again, what a lot of content machine processes alone will generate, and WUaS retains human teachers in our degree programs and wiki schools, which is something of which I'm proud.

On our forking WUaS commercial side, WUaS also further delineated 10 planned planned revenue streams (http://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html), many of which are planned in all 7,943+ languages, that will further both generate amazing academic content, but especially also commercial content. I'm proud that this may lead to real growth of WUaS in addition to its content.

WUaS is planning to develop Bitcoin and Block Chain digital currency in all ~204+ countries (per the 2008 Olympics), with WUaS hiring the lawyers first as graduate students to help write the code for articulating this with existing nation states' legal systems. WUaS will also facilitate connecting Bitcoin and Block Chain with countries' existing banking systems. I hope our Quaker/Friendly ethos will increase the level of fairness with which we do this for all peoples. WUaS seeks to benefit all peoples with both free highest quality MIT OCW-centric education, and economically with related MIT OCW Sloan School degrees, for example, as well as with an entrepreneurial spirit where students in many languages may learn by creating online businesses, and cooperatives, even.

WUaS is planning an Universal Translator in all 7,943 languages and also to further invigorate small or so called "dying/dead" languages. I've also given online talks on this Universal Translator in both ISSIP as well as for IBM's CSIG.

I'm so glad L.V., and J.Sp. (who both went to MIT in chemistry and physics as undergraduates) as well as N.G. (who wrote the introduction and back cover blurb to my actual virtual Harbin ethnographic book) have all said they'd write recommendations for me for this MIT OCW faculty position I'm applying for - something I'm happy to brag about. Thank you all.

I've taught a course called "Information Technology and the Network Society" on Harvard's virtual island in Second Life, and more recently in Google group video Hangouts, for more than 8 semesters, and it was out of a conversation in this course in 2008 that the idea for World University and School emerged, and I've just kept developing and growing its content from then, with no financial gain whatsoever so far.

I've also written and published a ~ 550 page actual virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic book with introduction and back cover blurb, by UC Berkeley Professor Emeritus Nelson Graburn

http://www.scottmacleod.com/ActualVirtualHarbinBook.html. In this process, I've created a number of beginning virtual Harbin Hot Springs for comparative ethnographic and STEM research, and am also planning to develop a film-realistic, 3D, group build-able, interactive virtual Harbin/earth/cosmos with all 8K languages, with realistic and fantastic avatars, and with plans too to model the brain at the neuronal and nano levels to begin for related brain research engaging what I'm calling ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy. I think this will find form in something like Google Street View with OpenSim, for group building and wiki content additions. I hope too this can lead to 3D printable places from this virtual earth, for example. This will further yield lots of content. I've given two talks in the Tourism Studies' Working Group at UC Berkeley with the video of this from Nov 2012 and the slides from Nov 2015 above.

In addition, WUaS planning a Music School for ALL instruments, each a wiki subject page for open teaching and learning to begin, in ALL 7,097+ living languages, with undergraduate and Ph.D. degrees planned in all countries' main languages. In addition to learning for degrees and as wiki in this WUaS music school, WUaS will facilitate real, real time music making in something like Google group video Hangouts (for up to 10 people), with computer applications, and teachers, to help give feedback, and to teach. WUaS will also seek to develop both a musical focus in how to elicit loving bliss neurophysiology via music {and in other ways too}.

WUaS is also planning to wiki-add ALL museums and ALL libraries in all 8,000 languages, and perhaps in WUaS's virtual earth, which is also planned as a film-realistic interactive virtual classroom.

WUaS is planning online Medical Schools in all countries main languages with related teaching hospitals offering online clinical care.

WUaS is also planning Law Schools in all nation states, hiring nationals from these countries as faculty, first probably as graduate student instructors.

WUaS is also seeking to hire highest achievers from greatest universities as faculty - so the best and the brightest - and over centuries, as well as to attract high achieving matriculating students in all countries' main languages.

All of this will lead to immense amounts of fascinating content and potentially over centuries and even millennia.

Morning Scott,

It was good to see you again.  Long-range planning is a particularly interesting topic to me - we'll see where it leads for Cuttyhunk.

I look forward to hearing and learning more about your work with World University and School.  I did some brief browsing on the school's website and am intrigued by the possibilities that exist with the project and even how (at some point), younger students like my two, could participate.  For example, Gw is very interested in engineering and Ca, technology.  For Technology, I was able to utilize Code.org for free (once completed, there is little else organized in such a manner), but appropriate materials for engineering at the level I needed, was challenging to find.

If I can be of any help in this project, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Safe travels on your return trip home.

All my best,
M

Thanks so much for your email, Michelle, and what a nice surprise to receive it.

It will be great to stay in touch as WUaS develops in a variety of ways (and perhaps you would all enjoy wiki-developing it). On WUaS's degree side, we seek to offer free CC online accrediting I.B., undergraduate (BS/BA), Ph.D., law and M.D. degrees, first in English. On our wiki side in English, perhaps Gwen, Carter and you can help find the greatest online resources for open learning and teaching. Here in beginning form is the beginning "Educational Software" wiki subject - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Educational_Software - (before WUaS moves from the Wikia wiki to a wiki in Wikidata) and this is particularly an area where you might find most enjoyable and best learning software. (WUaS seeks to add open, free, best and most enjoyable computing and learning resources).

If Carter and Gwen had access to an interactive great online high school from Cuttyhunk offering I.B. or similar high school diplomas (accredited in Massachusetts), do you think they would be interested? Or perhaps they might even be interested in the Stanford Online High School, a kind of model with which WUaS seeks to come into conversation - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/02/masai-lion-how-might-disabled-wuas.html. In addition to these two videos on the SOHS, outgoing Stanford President John Hennessy's video talk here is really great as well. (I post much to my blog about WUaS under the "global university" label). Perhaps I can mention some of this to Le and Du as well if I see them today.

Hi to Ca and Gw. :)

All the best,
Scott

Hi D (and P and M),

Thanks for your great Cuttyhunk Long Range Planning endeavors, Dix.

I added a new "Education" category to the Cuttyhunk skills' spread sheet going around on paper at the Fishing Club yesterday evening (what a nice get together and community dinner!), plus some information about World University and School. Were you able to read my handwriting?

And shall we talk with Michelle, the school teacher, about possibly further organizing the wiki WUaS Skills subjects - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Subjects#Skills - from a Cuttyhunk perspective (as WUaS moves from the Wikia Wiki to a wiki in Wikidata imminently). I bet lots of Cuttyhunkers would be able to wiki-add great open free resources from the web specialized in areas they are interested in. There's also a "Sailing" wiki subject at CC WUaS - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Sailing - with a few CC MIT OCW courses, for example. And the open teaching and learning potential at WUaS is enormous. Cuttyhunkers could begin to teach to their web cameras in a variety of ways, especially with good long range planning for this :)

Cheers,
Scott

Thanks very much, Kurt!

Enjoyed your presentation today, as well as this article about you - http://fullcircle.asu.edu/faculty/kurt-vanlehn-intelligent-tutoring-research-revolutionizes-teaching/. To study at Stanford in the early 1970s must have been fascinating and mind expanding. I'd like to infuse both Stanford and MIT ethoses - and from the 1960s and 1970s - into wiki CC World University and School as we grow (in Google group video Hangouts for interactivity, and with Artificial Intelligence, machine learning and machine translation). CC WUaS plans to develop in CC Wikidata which is CC Wikipedia's developing database currently involving its ~358 languages.

Appreciated your emphasis earlier today in the IBM CSIG talk on cognitive agents/assistants in the group learning context (and re the “Assessment and Grading at WUaS as Part of Conversation in Learning” wiki subject at World University and School - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Assessment_and_Grading_at_WUaS_as_Part_of_Conversation_in_Learning). In what ways could you focus on specific populations in different languages, on MIT OCW high school resources, - and are you looking for classes of online students for experimentation (… especially concerning World University and School - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/)?

See too the beginning Mathematics' wiki subject for open teaching and learning - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Mathematics - with its MIT OCW courses, as well as the STEM wiki subject - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/STEM_Education_-_Science,_Technologies,_Engineering_and_Mathematics - both planned in all countries' main languages for online high school and university degrees, accrediting on CC MIT OCW in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC. Let's explore funding questions together.

(Might you have any plans for developing your learning system with brain wave headsets, say in 10 years for example? I wonder too how we might be able to operationalize your book's theses - https://mitpress.mit.edu/authors/kurt-vanlehn - for example. I've been in touch recently with MIT Ed Boyden and IBM's Aldis Sipolin, also an IBM CSIG speaker, about modeling the brain at the neuronal and nano levels, something WUaS is planning too). I also gave an IBM CSIG talk on an Universal Translator - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/05/fertilisation-ibm-csig-talk-05-may.html - not long ago.

I'm applying for a MIT Media Lab junior faculty position (and re your MIT Ph.D. and http://educationgroup.mit.edu/HHMIEducationGroup/?p=4018) both hopefully to develop World University and School, which is also planned for all 7,943+ languages as wiki schools for open teaching and learning (as well as CC free online university and high school degrees in all ~204 countries' main and official languages), as well as to develop my actual / virtual Harbin Hot Springs' research - http://www.scottmacleod.com/ActualVirtualHarbinBook.html - and re making a STEM virtual Harbin/earth/cosmos as field site for actual / virtual comparison, in something like Google Street View (visit the Harbin Gate here, and 'walk' down the road to Middletown, California, in Google Earth ... http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg) with OpenSimulator toward film realism, 3D, interactivity, group-building/coding, in all 8k languages and with avatars, and as WUaS "classrooms." Have you visited Harbin?

Re your FACT Centaur work as hybrid cognitive agents/assistants, I'm curious in general about avatar agency, and conceptually as avatars in OpenSim/SL become possibly autonomous - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/avatar%20agency

Re coming into conversation with, and thinking about, your talk, I wonder too, for example, whether 10 people in a Google group video Hangout will merge with/into a Google Street View / OpenSim virtual classroom, and become "centaurized" or "avatarized" in this virtual space - so part human and part coded virtual bot - and whether such teacher "centaurs" will be able to provide mathematics' feedback to student "centaurs," both in groups and individually, based on the work you shared today. (WUaS also plans to engage the conference method for teaching and learning - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Conference_Method_of_Teaching_and_Learning - online and with A.I./machine learning with many parallels to the work you're operationalizing digitally, and invite matriculating students at WUaS to engage MIT OCW courese via the conference method, now online).

Thanks for a fascinating, timely and stimulating talk, Kurt, and I wonder how best to communicate further about all of this over time. You may be settled at ASU, but might you have interest too in becoming a faculty member at MIT - https://www.media.mit.edu/about/faculty-search?

Thank you.

Best regards, Scott

Greater roadrunner: How would I add data to Wikidata in voice A.I. - and anticipating brain wave head sets?, [Wikidata] SQID evolved again: references, Glad to have heard back from Markus at Wikidata in Germany about this today

Glad to have heard back from Markus at Wikidata in Germany about this today:

Dear Scott,

Support for brain wave head sets is not on our current development plan, but pull requests are always welcome.

Finding SQID pages in Google will be difficult, since it is an all-Javascript application without static pages. Google may not see much of the content of our pages.

Best,

Hi Markus and Wikidatans,

I'm resending my email of a few minutes ago in a new thread, and wondering about how all this might lead to very early Wikidata/SQID/Wikipedia planning for anticipating brain wave head sets? In anticipating voice use of Wikidata by other organizations (e.g. Google Voice +), is there anything different Wikidata might plan for in anticipating brain wave headsets - and even an open source / CC brain wave head set? ...

Hi Markus, Egon, Gu, Joachim and Wikidatans,

In Google voice in Android on my smartphone  I asked the following orally, and this is what was transcribed and understood AI -wise, and also these were the "hits" I got via Google search:

1
"How would I add data to Wiki data" (no question mark was transcribed)

2
"How would I get data using SQID from Wikidata"
but Google Voice doesn't recognize SQID yet, and it kept searching on "SQUID"

3
Then I asked orally/in voice ..

"How would I edit Wikipedia"

... and I heard read back to me out loud, as well as saw in text at the top of the Google search hit list:

"To edit the whole page at once, click the "edit this page" tab at the top. To edit just one section, click the "edit" link to the right of the section heading. To edit on Wikipedia, you type in a special markup language called wikitext. See the cheat sheet for the most basic wikitext codes." (good to see wikitext mentioned, #Wikimedia-Office hour folks from June 21 at 2pm PT)

...and below this was this link ...

4
Then I asked in a further experimental mode (and Google Voice transcribed the following)
"how would I add MIT opencourseware to Wiki data" (capitalization and spacing by Google Voice)

And I didn't get any relevant "hits" linking these two databases, or, in particular, allowing me to add MIT OCW in 7 languages to Wikidata just using my voice.

5
I then asked

"What is the Douglas Adams Wiki data page"

6
Then spelling out S-Q-I-D, and after a few further different attempts, I was able to orally ask
"What is the Wiki data S-Q-I-D page for Douglas Adams"

And I got the 2nd hit in Google search of

Which was your email to me Markus on Wednesday, June 21 (in a "osdir" which I hadn't seen before)!

Cool ...

7
I then asked in Google Voice ...

"What is the Douglas Adams Wikipedia page"

got this ...
All this is great and exciting, and the very initial steps to engaging Wikidata with voice, as I see it, but via Google Voice (with its TensorFlow), and interoperability between organizations' data is so important and generative (especially given CC Wikidata and Google's opennesses), ... but not yet in a Wikidata voice project for example.

8
So, what are Wikidata plans for voice with AI ,machine learning and machine translation?

What are Wikidata plans for anticipating Google Voice (with TensorFlow) and by extension all other interesting voice AI projects (IBM, Amazon, Siri, etc ... )?

I'm curious further about planning for how "voice AI" projects (e.g. Google Voice) will engage Wikidata /SQID / Wikipedia and for robust interactivity and knowledge generation, and even, for example, my coding of Wikidata by voice.

The way such voice processes will further newly engage SQID references (which are such a varied, rich and remarkable source of data) could dramatically boost Wikidatas and SQIDs generativty, as well.

How might I begin to plan to use "voice" with Wikidata and SQID (and also re adding CC MIT OCW in 7 languages to CC World University and School, per an extended correspondence with MIT OCW's Dean Cecilia d'Oliveira this springs when WUaS was in a UC Berkeley Law class - and for anticipating student applications this autumn)?

Could prospective students begin to apply in voice to WUaS, for example, as if applying to MIT or Stanford from around the world, first in English?

Thank you.

Best regards, Scott

Guidelines for practicing loving bliss vis-à-vis practicing a musical instrument

Articulating 12 Guidelines for Practicing a Musical Instrument (by Marsalis and Ma) with developing how to practice loving bliss
Friends,
Here are some practices to elicit loving bliss with which I'm beginning to articulate these 12 'how-to' guidelines below:). And here are what I think is love in some of its best senses. In the following ideas and explorations of how we might 'practice' loving bliss, as we would practice a musical instrument, I assume our bodyminds are like musical instruments. {Feel free to print, below, and add to this}. As I'm presently thinking about this, I'd love your thoughts about this ~ scott@scottmacleod.com.

INSPIRATION
~ Keep the vision of making {loving bliss} 'music' in mind
~ Make eliciting loving bliss, as practice, enjoyable (e.g. omega-3 fatty acids, 1000 mg flax seed oil with food, 3 times per day, plus a multivitamin, may be helpful biologically)

1 Seek out private instruction.
> ... for modeling and teaching qualities of loving bliss
> With whom?
> Might interactive media via the internet help give shape to this, without private instruction?
2 Write out a schedule, a plan with goals. (Choose pieces you enjoy playing – S.M.).
Yo-yo Ma says, never make a sound without hearing it first; hear it in your mind.
> Are there 'loving bliss' musical pieces?
> What are the skills of loving bliss?
> Develop techniques of loving bliss, such as 'tuning' {e.g. via the relaxation response},  expressiveness/
performativity, breathing, relaxing, eliciting, remembering
> Questions vis-a-vis 'flow: the psychology of optimal experience' - choose learning situations for this
> Reading and engaging 'loving bliss in its best senses'

3 Set goals to chart development.
> These qualities of brain neurophysiology, then those qualities of brain neurophysiology?
> Engage a teacher for this goal charting
> Use a technology (what machines exist now that measure, or provide biofeedback about, loving bliss?)
> Use language, as a kind of technology
> Use your own inner sense of loving bliss 'response,' and then build on this
> Synthesize arts like Watsu {water shiatsu} with loving bliss, to develop ways to chart development

4 Concentrate when you practice.
Yo-yo says join feelings into your music when you feel bad, to integrate your feelings with your mind and body.
> Use feelings to integrate you as a musical instrument when you feel bad, then ~>
> Relax into the relaxation response
> Elicit the 'bubbling up' biology (bodymind releasing and welcoming) of loving bliss neurophysiology
> While listening to music
> While dancing
> While exploring positive emotions
> While eliciting loving bliss with a friend

5 Relax and practice slowly.
> Relaxation response, breathing, eliciting, 'practices to elicit loving bliss,' with your bodymind releasing
> Find pools of warm water (like at Harbin Hot Springs, or your bathtub) in which to practice eliciting loving bliss, with ease and focus
> Find a friend to do this with

6 Practice hard parts longer.
> Go into, or release richly into, loving bliss?
> For transcendent & heightened experiences of loving bliss, focus on these often, and with depth
7 Practice expressively.
Be serious – invest yourself expressively.
> Let go into loving bliss fulsomely, imaginatively, exploratorily, performatively
> Bring emotion and 'verve' to this practice
> Engage music (especially favorite - for me the Grateful Dead, Raga and Mozart all take me there) as reference experiences

8 Don’t be too hard on yourself.
Learn from your mistakes.
> Focus, after not concentrating, - and care for yourself, while generating loving bliss

9 Don’t show off.
> A kind of Taoist approach {mask the brightness - (Feng and English 1975: #56)}?
> Don't put your loving bliss on display
> And also let your loving bliss shine out, especially when regenerative, and with friends who are also exploring this

10 Think for yourself.
Don’t become a robot, but don’t dismiss what you’re taught.
> Innovate vis-à-vis eliciting loving bliss
> Learn loving bliss techniques, as if learning Watsu (water shiatsu}, and with focus

> Don't repeat loving bliss 'techniques' by rote (e.g. by listening to Mozart's "Magic Flute" or dancing to elicit loving bliss ~> cultivate loving bliss with relaxed intention)
> I think all of the above have quite explicit biochemical, neurophysiological correlates, that, when known, we might begin to orchestrate profoundly, - keep thinking

11 Be optimistic.
Nothing sounds worse than pessimism coming through a horn.
> Cultivate optimism with loving bliss - it might be difficult not to

12 Look for connections. (Make the social aspect of practicing regenerative - S.M.)
Music washes away the dust of everyday life from your feet.
> Orient your mind to connecting with
  • your own neurophysiology of loving bliss
  • to other people~friends who are exploring this
  • to innovating vis-à-vis generating loving bliss
> Explore doing this in multiple networks in your life (including playing musical instruments together:)
> Let's create a remarkable & profound language and socioculture for this

Warm regards,
Scott
