"Free yourself from the mass media, the virus doesn't exist"

Hi Ma, Ann,

Rain much of the night, seems unusual, but kinda welcome ... Some 'big' internet thoughts ... and re Information Technology theory even ... per following news' article "Free yourself from the mass media, the virus doesn't exist" - https://www.welt.de/vermischtes/plus208035545/Corona-Demos-Berlin-Der-Virus-existiert-nicht.html.

With a 6 minute video of which I could see half only once before a pay wall popped up in the journalistically-excellent Welt.de newspaper ("The World" in German, as media there too). I teach about the related following ideas in one of my courses - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html. In article there's an interesting theoretical perspective too re 'MASS SELF COMMUNICATION' thesis in Castells' book "Communication Power" - as new/significant with internet -

"Free yourself from the mass media, the virus doesn't exist"
https://www.welt.de/vermischtes/plus208035545/Corona-Demos-Berlin-Der-Virus-existiert-nicht.html
CORONA-DEMONSTRANTEN
„Befreit Euch von Massenmedien, der Virus existiert nicht!“
Stand: 07:34 Uhr
Martin Heller
Head of Video Innovation

which is about "corona demonstrators" in one of millions of articles in last few months -

? symbolically significant ?

Or could one also interpret this article as an understanding advertisement to get readership - i.e. sticky eyeballs - if not to sell this newspaper monetarily. Germans seem more reasonable, balanced and measured with all things financial than Americans, but they also haven't given rise to Silicon Valley innovations, and the info tech revolution. And the article's title echos revolutionary thinking, yet meme-wise ( where meme could be 'imitated replicating cultural units' - or repeated words).

And even if I were able to view the article a second time behind its pay wall, like I can view Boston Globe's  articles behind their p'ay wall' in the Tor browser - I wouldn't be able to view the article's video a 2nd time in the Tor browser because Tor's orientation to coding for privacy currently makes videos inaccessible, and likewise machine translation. (That I was able to see half this video once on Android smartphone in Chrome browser, and after which a pay wall popped up, and in a second different browser, Firefox, is new to me) - in thinking about all these I.T. processes, and social theory-wise too. (I also checked this article in Tor browser, and can't read it behind its pay wall, unlike Boston Globe articles, for example).

A further "HYPOTHETICAL News'" item (I'm making this up): It was Stanford laboratories (either in Palo Alto or in China) that created a SARS Covid-19 virus, and released it in Wuhan, partly as a radical action, and also to focus the world on 'in case of emergency' OF EMERGENCY global epidemic scenarios. And there was another related release of this SARS Covid-19 in Italy (as hypothetical news). The rest of the coronavirus pan-demic has been 'memes' :) .. now how to 'test these hypotheses' :)? (And I asked my former landlord about his saying that the virus in Wuhan, China was due to vial with virus in a vial and in "archery contest in Wuhan, China"" I later called him about this to check on it, and when I asked him explicitly about this, he said the vial with virus in it and "archery contest in Wuhan, China"" was "fake news"??? (per https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/03/courtship-display-heartsong-and-all.html ) ... Hmmm ... Philosophical skepticism has merit.

Also, re internet privacy questions, having just got a monthly Google Maps' update of my trips when I've carried my smartphone I think - and again re privacy questions - and the Google Apple contact-tracing project re the coronavirus pandemic, it looks like Google already knows exactly where I've traveled in the past month ... https://www.google.com/maps/timeline?ved=0ENaiAggAKAA&pb=!1m2!2m1!1s2020-04&gid=118114165587746804948 ... Hmmm .. is some of the media about Google Apple contact-tracing project fake news itself? Has the coronavirus pandemic been significantly fake news? (and per this recent online Oxford university talk "Freedom of Expression & the Weaponization of Information" - https://pcmlp.socleg.ox.ac.uk/event/freedom-of-expression-the-weaponization-of-information-with-antonina-cherevko-adviser-international-media-support (a bit old school, as well as culturally Russian or east bloc thinking even:) - by Antonia Cherevko (who speaks Russian natively) ... Hmmm .

As a Castellian (Manuel Castells), am thinking about some of these things in these regards (and also re http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html).

New hypothesis - social media gives us all who use it and post 'communication power' :)

Moist outside but ...

Sri Lanka's Freedom College's Expression of interest in collaborating with World University and School (cont.)

Hi Rifai, Peter and Partha,

Typed in 'Free College' in Google Translate, selected Sinhala, and got both:

නිදහස් විද්යාලය
nidahas vidyālaya

What a lovely script. Slightly different connotation than "Freedom College" in English.

Coupons and Promo Codes re ORAP ... as incentives to take edX courses ... Hmmm... and an inspiring realistic virtual earth for STEM classrooms ... https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForSTEM?src=hashtag_click ... somehow as incentives too? I don't know that students are seeking to take edX courses in the same way that students are applying to MIT and Stanford at the undergraduate level - yet.

Will keep the .edu domain name in mind - thanks. Also, brainstorming-wise, WUaS may develop our online medical schools with online teaching hospitals for online clinical care and research building out of something like Sebastian Thrun's Udacity approach:

Introducing #UdacityAIforHealthcare Nanodegree program!
Due to the #COVID19 #pandemic, there has never been a better ti‍me to understand the impact of #AI on the #healthcare industry and to learn how you can leverage AI for patient care. Learn more https://bit.ly/3bxC8wF.

https://twitter.com/udacity/status/1260268573836132352?s=20
... which also takes, like edX, a nanodegree approach to incentives ... and perhaps as different incentives than ORAP.

Thanks again for your email.

Regards, Scott

Hi !

Yeah !  Languages from the Indian sub continent somewhat look the same due to Sanskrit and Pali origins. Sinhala is an Indian language that is extinct in India and Sri Lanka is the only country that uses Sinhala. Z is missing in the alphabet so Zebra is pronounced Sebra.

The degree programmes are actually a combination of selected individual certificates. Only difference is you have to enroll into the university and the exams are proctored if I am not mistaken. It is all in the degree certificate. You can consider that too. Ubiquity does that. Have you checked out Nopaymba.com and wikispecies?

Regards,

Rifai

Rifai, All,
Yay!
No Pay MBA, from edX etc - https://www.nopaymba.com - cool
Ubiquity Univ - https://www.ubiquityuniversity.org - cool
Here's WikiTree - planning a complete family tree, presumably for all 7.5 billion people - https://www.wikitree.com
And WUaS seeks to code for all 22 million Sri Lankans, each a Wikidata PIN# as wiki teachers and learners at WUaS too ..
Beyond degrees at Nidahas Vidyalala ... Degrees at WUaS? Seeking to license with the state of CA's BPPE, and probably WASC senior (which accredits Stanford and MIT), first in English ... and offer online Bachelor, Ph.D. Law, Medicine, and IB High School degrees - in Sinhala too and all 200 countries' official languages ... conceptually on something like MIT OCW into MITx on the edX platform, but perhaps newly in collaboration with MIT and Harvard as they all go online for the autumn due to the coronavirus pandemic ... stay tuned
Regards, Scott

*

Rifai, and All,

WASC senior accredits Stanford and UC Berkeley and all the UCs in California, but not MIT  (re "which accredits Stanford and MIT") ... and WUaS may accredit with WASC senior too, as we explore licensing with state of CA's BPPE concurrently.

Pre coronavirus pandemic, here are the 5 reasons WUaS seeks to code for all 7.5 billion people on planet earth - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/12/wild-pomegranate-burchellia-bubalina.html - from Dec 31, 2019 blog post ... and now with the Apple - Google contact-tracing application unfolding, there may be further collaboration potential for WUaS with Google/ Alphabest in the future. This is especially re WikiTree and which 7.5 billion person focus - at a key WUaS coding moment - you'll find in the Agenda & News for WUaS for today's WUaS Monthly Business Meeting.

Hi !
The last time I logged in, wikitree was empty. It has grown now so I could work on it now. For someone who believes in the creation of man (Adam) and lineages of Semitic people, genealogy can be categorised into 3 or 4 periods as per historians.

Adam to Abraham - Key figures are correct but major mistakes are obvious.

Abraham to Jesus Christ (referring to the period) - Mistakes might be present but some lineages might be accurate.

Jesus Christ to Today - Some lineages are accurate. This period is the best to work on.

For a code to be unique it should be tagged with biometrics at FBI verification levels. If not two people with similar patterns can be mistaken. Need to RnD on using a webcam for iris scan or using a computer scanner to scan a fingerprint. The other option might be to have a mile long code to represent the 7.5 B.
Eg: SLWPCMBNG000000000001

Accreditation is quite useful when working with Commonwealth member states. If you can get accredited by one body mentioned in the UGC Sri Lanka site and you can cover many countries in Asia, Africa, Australia & Europe.

I had an email conversation with Moodle 4 Teachers on providing a free post graduate diploma for teachers (open shared content of MA in Teacher Education from the Open University of Sri Lanka. They have discontinued the programme). There are few more courses for teachers. If you approve the certificate can be assured by Sri Lanka WUaS and displayed on WUaS Sri Lanka page. Exemptions can be granted for students who pass an exam conducted by WUaS.  This can be a separate project unrelated to MIT OCW centric.

The students could be proctored online for impersonation. Copying can be reduced by keeping the student occupied in the exam, maybe an MCQ type paper with 60 questions within 60 minutes. Once the student passes the certificate is issued. They normally issue a certificate once the learning outcomes are met. This might take off with a non-accredited, non-proctored and non-verified certificate from Freedom College (Nidahas Vidyalaya will be renamed).

Speaking of contact tracing it would be great to partner with Google as they have bigger dominance than Apple. If you like to start with tracing WUaS Alumni might be able to share a piece of code. It is not wiki based but googling might help.

Regards,

Rifai

HI Rifai, Partha, Peter,

Thanks again for your email, Rifai. Have posted below a conversation I had with WikiTree founder, and its lead developer, on Dec 14, 2020 (see videos of them) ... they're potential collaborators (WUaS and Wikidata), and via Wikidata in its 300 languages. WUaS donated itself to Wikidata in 2015 and got WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki in 2017 (this is WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University - and planning to code, conceptually, for all 7.5 billion people on planet) but they're not yet interoperable.

A
Re your interesting-

"For a code to be unique it should be tagged with biometrics at FBI verification levels. If not two people with similar patterns can be mistaken. Need to RnD on using a webcam for iris scan or using a computer scanner to scan a fingerprint. The other option might be to have a mile long code to represent the 7.5 Billion people Eg: SLWPCMBNG000000000001  "

- WUaS is seeking to create a single realistic virtual earth at the cellular and atomic levels too - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForGenetics?src=hashtag_click - with realistic avatar bots (living and past), of humans and all other species ever, and for genealogical research too. Big data project! But for matriculating WUaS students, and wiki teachers and learners as speakers of all 7,117 known living languages.

B
Re your "Accreditation is quite useful when working with Commonwealth member states. If you can get accredited by one body mentioned in the UGC Sri Lanka site and you can cover many countries in Asia, Africa, Australia & Europe."

... Re World Univ & Sch accreditation-thinking presently, WUaS is conceiving of this as if a Sri Lankan student applies to and gets into MIT or Stanford on-the-ground (with their accreditations), travels to Cambridge or Palo Alto to study for 4 years, gets a hypothetical chemical engineering degree, for ex., and then returns to Sri Lanka, and takes a licensing exam there in Sinhala or English in order to be able to practice as a chemical engineer in Sri Lanka. WUaS accreditation in other countries in the future (and re a WUaS Sri Lanka law school's which we've already emailed about) is something for the future.

C
Re your "approve the certificate," and "proctoring" ... WUaS is currently thinking in terms of edX courses in one way or another re WUaS degrees. (WUaS is considering modularity in these regards too - where a student could take a single edX course, brainstorming-wise, get an edX certificate, and have this course apply to their 40 courses necessary for a free-to-students' Bachelor degree; am not sure how the payment issue would work if the student wanted the edX certificate along the way to a degree, since payment to edX is involved if a student wants an edX certificate).  WUaS, brainstorming-wise, is thinking in terms of the edX platform for test-taking, assessment etc. too.

D
Yes, this email address is already part of Google for Education, and G Suite:
Having just got a monthly Google Maps' update of my trips when I've carried my smartphone I think - and re privacy questions - and re the Google Apple contact tracing project re the coronavirus pandemic, it looks like Google knows exactly where I've traveled in the past month, already ... https://www.google.com/maps/timeline?ved=0ENaiAggAKAA&pb=!1m2!2m1!1s2020-04&gid=118114165587746804948 ... Hmmm

E
WUaS is a little Friends' oriented (unprogrammed Quakers, nontheist Friends, atheist Quakers / agnostic F/friends, and UU too) ... And with regard to genealogy, and DNA sampling too (per Ancestry. com, but which WikiTree doesn't do), we'll navigate the 3 monotheistic religions (C - M - J) accordingly. Heading also (way) beyond the 7 religions in Huston Smith's "The Religions of Man" first published around 1957.

Cheers, Scott

PPS
emails with WikiTree and Wikidata ...

Chris, Aleš, Markus, Denny, Lydia and All,

Magnus Sälgö just connected with me again in Telegram (see below) re SINGLE family tree questions in WikiTree, presumably for 7.5 billion people on the planet, and I wanted to share this with you, as well as let you know why else World Univ & Sch is seeking to develop, brainstorming-wise, with 7.5 billion people. I'm sorry that I don't know Bayesian statistics in these regards>

WUaS is seeking to plan for, brainstorming-wise, coding for all 7.5 billion people for the following reasons:

All 7.5 billion people, each a Wikidata Q-item number (or PIN in the Wikidata ecosystem or similar) for

i) wiki Universitians in 7,111 known living languages, and matriculated students in all ~200 countries,

ii) Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records, with genetic therapies, and for molecular tele robotic surgery, for ex.,

iii) Universal Basic Income (UBI) experiments (and to alleviate poverty), and to DISTRIBUTE a single cryptocurrency backed by some number of ~200 countries' central banks (where the Euro is in 19 out of 28 EU countries, and backed by their central banks in one way or another) ... and potentially with UBI experiment recipients able, for example, to mine the "Mine Pi" cryptocurrency (as a mineable single cryptocurrency), developed by Stanford graduates, by clicking on the 'lightning button' brainstorming-wise. (See, too, European Central Bank head, Christine Lagarde here - https://twitter.com/ecb/status/1205225680453210112?s=20 )

iv) a single family tree for genealogy research as in WikiTree (https://www.wikitree.com, and see too World Family Tree - https://www.geni.com/worldfamilytree), and for aggregating DNA samples too (see item 2 again).

Magnus is raising quality and "verifiable in reliable sources" questions re approximately 600,000 entries that were recently added to WikiTree, and how bots didn't work out very well.

I'm including Peter Norvig here too since he may have great knowledge about how to explore proceeding with single WikiTree family tree questions with genetic data - and for all 7.5 billion people on planet earth, as well as re the above WUaS questions. Peter, you're a Bayesian statistician, aren't you? Whom else? Markus?

Thoughts, ideas, questions, clarifications ... ? Thank you.

Best,

Scott

(Although I've included Magnus Sälgö in this email again per below, I'll leave him out of subsequent emails per his request)

14 Dec 2019 (from SF Bay Area)
Thanks, Magnus - From WikiTree - https://www.wikitree.com/ - "Welcome to The Free Family Tree, growing stronger since 2008.
Together we're growing an accurate single family tree using DNA and traditional genealogical sources" ... Am curious how WikiTree is planning for a SINGLE family tree re dealing with large amounts of data (which machine learning thrives on), based on their history since '08. About 600,000 entries of 7.5 billion people on the planet is .008 %, and this seems like helpful quantification re aiming for 7.5 billion people in a single family tree, but I don't know Bayesian statistics which seems like it could help further significantly - and potentially with issues of verifiability esp. Mathematics can clear up messes, - especially if museum and university peoples could help with this. World Univ & Sch which donated itself to Wikidata in 2015 and received WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki as a consequence in 2017 aims for 7.5 billion people, each a Wikidata Q-item # (or similarly named, such as PIN - like Personal Identification Number in the Wikidata system) for 4 reasons initially (see: https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/11/arabian-sand-gazelle-minutes-for-annual.html). Will email that thread from a few weeks ago about all of this. Tack! Magnus

Trevor, Nontheist Friends' Network, and NtFs,

Thanks for opening this up, non-theisticallly Friendly-wise. I experimented further with your experiment, and attempted to post that which is below here - https://nontheist-quakers.org.uk/2020/05/11/nfn-website-news-as-home-page-posts/comment-page-1/. But both experiments didn't seem to work, and even after I logged into Wordpress.

Non-theistic Friendly greetings,
Scott

I was very very impressed with adolescent psychiatrists Dr. Karriem Salaam a few years ago, and I'd think that Friends' Hospital in Philadelphia has many excellent head psychiatrists. The video of Dr. Salaam is impressive here in a related Tweet (from 9 Sep 2018):

World Univ & Sch

World Univ & Sch will seek to translate CC-4 MIT OCW courses with improving machine translation in developing the following:

- Major online Universities in all ~200 countries accessible from here https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States (planned in ~200 nation states' main languages)

- Wiki schools for open teaching & learning planned in 7,117 known living languages - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages - where you, for example, can add a new academic or creative wiki subject - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects - in an area you love).

As WUaS seeks to license with CA's BPPE and than to accredit probably with WASC senior, the free-to-students' CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare-centric online Bachelor degrees - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/The_College_at_World_University_and_School - and Ph.D.s, will be in English (re BPPE). Online Law and Medical degrees, as well as I.B. high school diplomas, will follow, in English, and other languages (with these 5 degrees planned in each of all ~200 countries' official languages online with time).

Books don't go across languages very readily, partly due to copyright issues, but WUaS plans also to build on MIT OCW's culture of translation into about 10 MIT OCW languages since its beginning - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIT_OpenCourseWare. These languages include Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese, Persian, Turkish, Korean and others - https://ocw.mit.edu/about/our-history/

Thanks to MIT President Rafael Reif and MIT Professor Sanjay Sarma, VP in the Office of Digital Learning, for making possible a 30 minutes' video conversation on Friday, May 1, 2020 per - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2020/04/dear-mit-president-rafael-reif-possible.html .
Thanks too for Sanjay Sarma's email in these regards:

Hi Scott,

Best to email me and not Rafael. He is as you might imagine, flat out. And stay tuned.

With edX (founded by Harvard and MIT) in about 15-20 languages, and CC-4 MIT OCW in 4 languages currently, - and with Professor Sanjay Sarma's interest in the many languages' focus of World University and School where India has 22 official languages - and in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, WUaS will seek to explore further a way to expand our WUaS multiple languages' focus, as well as, conceptually, a CC-4 MIT OCW into MITx on edX approach. This may occur by building a platform in collaboration with MIT and Harvard's emerging online course platforms in the midst of coronavirus as they play for their students in the autumn.

WUaS will follow up about possible ways the MIT Office for Digital Learning might be able to bridge something in a new way in these regards, and make something happen collaboration-wise.

3
In communication with the MIT Office for Digital Learning, World Univ & Sch would seek to explore how working with MIT admissions might function regarding online WUaS students in the autumn (in something like the MIT OCW > MITx on edX platform, conceptually) - Harvard admissions too - for high achieving students, from all ~200 countries, and first in English? Eventually, WUaS would seek to develop especially China World University and School, Russia World University and School, and Iran World University and School, in these regards too. See, https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States - each country's WUaS to become a major online WUaS University, in its official and main languages, and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University.

WUaS is seeking to matriculate 500-2,000 undergraduates this autumn in English online from all ~200 countries, for free-to-students' Bachelor degrees that are CC-4 MIT OCW-centric. Students would register, sign up, and apply via - worlduniveristyandschool.org - and WUaS will seek reimbursement from all ~200 countries' departments of education per student per year, as we plan to offer online MIT or Stanford-caliber degrees.

4
Regarding money transfer mechanism - for WUaS reimbursements from countries' departments of education, and for donations to 501 c3 WUaS, for example,  it's also regarding anticipating a single cryptocurrency (or multiple ones), that I think it has much merit to develop WUaS's own money transfer mechanism (on both wings, way beyond P.P.) - and also in planning for 7.5 billion people.

World Univ & Sch will seek reimbursement of $55,000 per country to begin for any number of potential 4-year undergraduate students to matriculate, and eventually moving toward, - from nation states' departments of education, and depending on countries' GDP - $55,000 per year per student, pegging WUaS reimbursement on MIT's tuition into the future.

(I've been reading many different newspapers online during coronavirus pandemic, and often using Google Translate for the languages I don't know (which machine translation is pretty great these days), and was amazed to see in the Hindustan Times (in New Dehli, India) that MacBooks cost as much as $1,999 in India - which could well inform WUaS seeking a full $55,000 per year per student reimbursement (in some of the developing world), if we could give students all live faculty much of the time, like at MIT / Stanford / Reed College for conference method, etc.  Here's the article:

"Apple’s new 13-inch MacBook Pro launch: India price revealed: There are three other variants of the new MacBook Pro that are priced at $1,499 (Rs 1,13,000 approx), $1,799 (Rs 1,36,000 approx) and $1,999 (Rs 1,51,000) approx based on their RAM and storage capacities" - https://www.hindustantimes.com/tech/apple-s-new-13-inch-macbook-pro-launch-india-price-revealed/story-iHfWLpt807jgU9IpeM0yDN.html).

WUaS seeks to add a money transfer mechanism for reimbursements, and as WUaS plans to build code for matriculating students in all ~200 countries' official languages, then also for speakers of all 7,117 known living languages as wiki teachers and learners, and then, conceptually, for each of all 7.5 billion people on the planet (also as wiki learners and teachers) - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University. WUaS would likely begin this coding process in Wikidata's ~300 languages for something like every wiki WUaS teacher/learner a Wikidata Q-item #  or a Wikidata PIN # ... and which money transfer mechanism could work in numerous ways, on the WUaS non-profit wing, for reimbursements, and donations; (And see, too, the WUaS Corp below regarding for UBI experiments? Bookstore? In Quickbooks ? in the online teaching hospitals).

5
World Univ & Sch will continue to develop in all ~200 countries and their official languages with something like, conceptually, MIT OCW into MITx on the edX platform, and with regards, for example, to the beginning Sri Lanka World University and School - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Sri_Lanka - and in the Sinhala language - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Sinhala_language (planned in Sinhala, and in the Tamil language too - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Tamil_language in Tamil itself.

6
Potentially in collaboration with Stanford University and Google / Alphabet - and regarding the WUaS money transfer mechanism in anticipating a single cryptocurrency (or multiple ones), and in planning for 7.5 billion people re UBI experiments - World Univ & Sch was glad to learn in the Stanford Law CodeX presentation by Ivan Lee on May 14, 2020 https://law.stanford.edu/2020/05/12/codex-meeting-may-14th-2020/ https://twitter.com/CodeXStanford/status/1260997323284287489?s=20 - that the project he's working on recently added Thai language capabilities to the Chrome browser - thus I think completing all ~200 countries' main / official languages regarding information technologies on the web.
WUaS was also very glad to learn that Stanford alumnus Ivan Lee's datasaur.ai, drawing on Stanford Law contracts and in creating - "data labeling software for training natural language processing models, including Machine Learning-assisted labeling and workforce management features" - is offering their project for free to universities,  - and, again, World Univ & Sch is planning ~200 online universities in countries' main & official languages. Amazing, and thank you!

WUaS Corporation

A
The WUaS Corporation's financial report shows, percentage-wise, nearly a ~200% increase over last month's revenue - but WUaS is seeking to structure the WUaS Corp to return what the S&P 500 stock market index has returned on average per year over the past 90 years, or potentially 11.5% annually.

WUaS seeks also to develop a productive 11.5 % a year very steadily for the next century + and to grow to 2.2 million employees on both wings (e.g. potentially, 1,600,000 as student types working 10 hours/week) perhaps even, and in all 7,117 languages.

http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html - https://twitter.com/WUaSPress.

B

In the WUaS Corporation planning to develop a payment money transfer mechanism which could work in numerous ways, e.g. for Universal Basic Income (UBI) experiments to facilitate distribution of a single cryptocurrency backed by a large number of ~200 countries' central banks (post Euro in 19 out of 28 nation states) WUaS seeks to plan for digital currency with block chain ledger.

And the WUaS Corp seeks also to list on the emerging Silicon Valley long term stock market, and perhaps with regard to UBI experiments, as WUaS codes for all 7.5 billion people on the planet, (again probably in Wikidata's ~300 languages for something like every wiki WUaS teacher/learner a Wikidata Q-item #  or a Wikidata PIN #) and in facilitating a single cryptocurrency. So WUaS seeks to facilitate UBI experiments for all 7.5 billion people in this 'WUaS coding moment' to alleviate poverty, and via distributing single cryptocurrency, with payment money transfer mechanism.

C

The WUaS Corp payment money transfer mechanism will also function in WUaS's bookstores / computer stores / robotic stores, as well as in WUaS hospital technologies' distribution centers, in the 7,117 languages - both on-the-ground and online - and potentially in Quickbooks with "Mine Pi" digital currency too, for example, and in most of all ~200 countries.

A pair of valleys ~ Canyon, California

Hi Ma, Sandy, All,

On one side of the ridge is the wilder side, "Indian Valley," I've heard it called, part of East Bay MUD (Municipal Utilities' District) and which probably long has been used for cattle ranching.

On the other side is the Canyon valley, with its US Post Office, and K-8 public school, about 1/3rd of a mile apart from each other, and both at the bottom of the valley - where this valley is kinda wild in its own way. There might be another 80-100 dwellings throughout a California sequoia/red wood as well as scrub oak type forest - or "redwood groves and ferns along the creek, through the mixed live oak, bay, and madrone forests on the steep hillsides, up to the chaparral and knobcone pines that grow along the ridge." Check out John van der Zee's 1972 book "Canyon: The Story of the Last Rustic Community in Metropolitan America" - https://www.grizzlypeakpress.com/canyon - https://www.amazon.com/Canyon-Rustic-Community-Metropolitan-America/dp/0615365558 (van der Zee graduated from Stanford around 1970 as well). A bit difficult to fathom, Canyon was supposed to have been bigger than Oakland, CA, population-wise, in the 1850s, due to its timber community, I've heard. According to this Wikipedia article - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canyon,_California - Canyon was colorful history, and was notorious for its rowdiness in the late 1800s.

I haven't seen any pairs of mallards in Canyon however :)

Both valleys have their own 'wildnesses,' and I live in the middle of this pair - a bit betwixt and between liminality-wise (in seeking perhaps a more civilized 'vision' of life, or of living in community) - and am developing MIT OpenCourseWare-centric wiki World University and School. Click on the photo of the Adobe house here - https://www.google.com/maps/place/World+University+%26+School/@37.8345676,-122.1634055,3a,75y,217.09h,90t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sMlEYZVV1S7Hsw9Zx322SOw!2e0!6s%2F%2Fgeo1.ggpht.com%2Fcbk%3Fpanoid%3DMlEYZVV1S7Hsw9Zx322SOw%26output%3Dthumbnail%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26thumb%3D2%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D217.08772%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i16384!8i8192!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xbc76546d8b81c2e7!8m2!3d37.8343827!4d-122.1635866 - and spin the image around to see "Indian Valley." :)

Thanks again for the photo of the pair of mallards, Ma!

Warmly, Scott

My actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnography has an alternative culture, or countercultural, focus, from the 1960s forward, too -

*

Ma (Janie), Ann, Sandy, All

If you spin the image of the 'Adobe' house (URL is below again) to the left just a bit, you can "walk" down the road to where I live, about 1/4 of a "mile." I think there's a "764 Ridgecrest Road image" or two - as an Easter Egg to find :) - which is where I live, and you can see my house-let from there too.

I also found these interesting photos, and Canyon visit, in a blog entry by one Manuel Garcia jr.  -

A visit to Canyon, California (May 2016)
https://manuelgarciajr.com/2016/05/06/a-visit-to-canyon-california/

In my ongoing actual-virtual, physical-digital Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic project, am seeking to facilitate the creation of a realistic virtual Harbin for actual-virtual comparison, soaking, visiting, as well as STEM research, and also via a new social science method I'm calling ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy ...

For example, too, "walk" down the road 4 "miles' from the Harbin Hot Springs' gatehouse here ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg (accessible from ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~) and "wander" around the streets of the nearby "town," Middletown, CA. You can't go in the Harbin gate to visit Harbin itself yet, and at this point.

So here's a new definition of the Harbin experience, from Harbin itself (which I just found here - https://harbin.org):

"Harbin experience ~ New def: "In its most common form, ‘The #HarbinExperience’ can be consciousness-altering and deeply transpersonal, with a feeling of unity, and mental and physical calmness. Many of our guests return to Harbin to reconnect with this experience"> @HarbinBook ~"

https://twitter.com/HarbinBook/status/1262211871999844352?s=20

How to generate the 'Harbin experience' in a #RealisticVirtualHarbin - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualHarbin?src=hashtag_click - as well as VISIT ANYWHERE ON PLANET EARTH, at any time in history too! ? ... including WUaS in CAnyon 94516 :)

I haven't sought to find any species in Google Street View yet, like a pair of Mallards, but will keep you posted. And, importantly, Ma and all, you could you add your photo of this pair of mallards to Google Street View (itself), but not to Google Maps, or Google Earth, as I understand this. ... which is kind of the wiki idea ... (who here has added a sentence or a word to Wikipedia ?)

Genetic droplets?

Longevity & Aging Reversal per Harvard and MIT Genetics' Professor George Church

May 14
Waiting for the genetic droplets first for aging eyes' therapies, then potentially gene droplets for R ear eustachian tube dysfunction (but this could even involve waiting for soft materials' nano-robotic therapies, or similar), and then waiting on aging reversal genetic therapies themselves :)

Ma, Ann,

Waiting for the genetic droplets first for aging eyes' therapies, then potentially gene droplets for R ear eustachian tube dysfunction (but this could even involve waiting for soft materials' nano-robotic therapies in a capsule, or similar), and then waiting on aging reversal gene droplet therapies, but perhaps just a genetic capsule to add back a genetic enzyme to our DNA that lessens as we we age (https://youtu.be/bnCEIPQFNnk), from a large drug store, themselves :)

Here's Harvard / MIT Prof of Genetics' George Church (again):

John Carl Warnecke: His Fascinating Life and Architectural Career [VIRTUAL EVENT]

MAY 19, 2020 - 4:00PM
*NEW EVENT TIME*
REGISTRATION REQUIRED. THIS IS A VIRTUAL PROGRAM. PLEASE REGISTER HERE TO RECEIVE THE WEBINAR LINK IN THE CONFIRMATION EMAIL.
Speaker: Paul V. Turner, Wattis Professor of Art, Emeritus
John Carl Warnecke, class of 1941, was a Stanford football tackle who went on to become one of the most successful architects in America from the 1960s to the 1980s. This talk will explain the importance of Warnecke’s work, especially his pioneering role in the development of “Contextualism” in architecture––as seen, for example, in his work in Washington, D.C., for John F. Kennedy. Warnecke was the president’s favorite architect, and his friendship with JFK will be examined––as well as his remarkable relationship with Jacqueline Kennedy following the president’s death. Another focus of the talk will be on the important, but little-known, role that Warnecke played in the development of Stanford’s architecture after World War II. He wrote an insightful report on the subject in 1949, calling for a new approach to campus design––and introduced it in his plans for the Stanford Bookstore and the campus post office, which helped shape the character of Stanford’s architecture from then on.

*
Dear Margo, Alice, Leslie, and Paul,

Here are some of the questions I asked further. And thanks, Leslie, for asking about the physical architectural models.

"Thank you, and terrific, Paul! In what ways have simulations been used to study further Warnecke’s architecture? Could you see digitizing the Warnecke’archives, as well as his buildings, as a beneficial way to study his architecture further (beyond physical model making that architects engage in)? Did Warnecke make physical architectural models?

Am thinking in terms, even, of a realistic virtual earth for architecture, ideas for which you can see here - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForArchitecture?src=hashtag_click. Thank you!. Scott

And -
Margo and Alice, as a followup, are there any physical architectural models in the archives behind you (or elsewhere)? Thank you, Scott (sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org)"

And -
I'd love to stay in touch further about creating a realistic virtual earth for architecture - and for everything (think Google Street View with time slider) - and for viticulture, and so much more. (My actual-virtual ethnographic field site is Harbin Hot Springs - and I'm thinking too in terms of creating in these regards a realistic virtual Harbin - and for its architecture too; and Stanford University's too).
I created a Thank you Tweet for this talk -

Thanks Margo, Alice, Leslie & Paul, for https://historicalsociety.stanford.edu/events/john-carl-warnecke-his-fascinating-life-and-architectural-career-virtual-event ! In a #RealisticVirtualEarthForArchitecture & #RealisticVirtualEarthForHistory & #RealisticVirtualEarthForAgriculture in 1 #RealisticVirtualEarth conceptually into Google Street View with TIME SLIDER / Maps / Earth?

Ma,

I think the inner fruit neurophysiology soup 'cocktail' one can create or generate with Yoga asana or poses is one of the best there is, unparalleled.

Just had an interesting dream where I said this to Stanford Law Prof Hank Greely in a nice office room where, coming in to get some kind of prize, - was Hennessy there? - he was jokingly in a position to get frisked, and I saw this as 90 degree pose, hands on a bookshelf, started to give him a brief friendly back rub, and then began to do this Yoga pose myself next to him (thinking too in comparison of hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 1980 regarding that movement hiking neurophysiology and well being) ... saying to everyone in room: "I think the inner fruit neurophysiology soup 'cocktail' one can create or generate with Yoga asana or poses is one of the best there is, unparalleled."

Curious, good dream ... and will likely do some more Yoga than I usually do this morning. The benefits of movement re neurophysiology are great as well. Happy walking today. And nice to talk with you yesterday evening. Lacanian psychoanalysis riffs with the language of dreams. :)

Love, Scott
Am curious too about the role of culture, and cultural practices) in psychoanalysis (Austrian, French, Pennsylvania - and language-wise German, French, English ... and potentially in any nation state or its main languages, especially in Africa, and the Arab language countries, for example).

Idea-wise, could one generate an inner well being 'fruit cocktail' neurophysiology with psychoanalysis? And how would Yoga's differ from the outcome of psychoanalysis - speculatively? (Am speculating that Stanford Law Prof Roland Vogl, originally from Austria but having emigrated to California USA, went through psychoanalysis, and benefited from this, and seems quite well adjusted as a consequence). Yoga and psychoanalysis as healing practices, freeing too, seem different norms' wise regarding role in society somehow. As I continue to develop my big educational project (WUaS), which is ambitious in its own way, some 'strong energies' come up at times. Am recallibg now-deceased George, as psychoanalyst, appreciating thinking-wise, language-wise, Lacanian psychoanalysis relative to Yoga ... perhaps regarding outcomes too, and him also appreciating Dad for his successes relative to George Alexander MD's own perhaps quiet psychiatric clinical practice / career. (And both Caleb and John developed highly successful careers in academic medicine as MDs, becoming powerful doctors in a sense - like Dad in Pennsylvania, and Freud and Lacan). One thing Yoga adds regarding well being outcomes further regarding the thinking of Lacanian psychoanalysis language-wise, is the benefits of movement. Another might be a different 'moral' vision. (George characterized himself as 'amoral' a number of times, for ex., as he engaged gay rights' thinking - perhaps in the context of Pittsburgh). But Roland, working as law professor, and director of Stanford Law CodeX - and possibly having gone through psychoanalysis, - has the law, and legal thinking, and now re CodeX's legal information technologies and entrepreneurialism and Stanford's California ethics informing related questions. George was engaging moral or ethical questions philosophically and psychoanalytically, and as a practicing Lacanian psychoanalyst MD Psychiatrist. Time to do some Yoga asana, as the coronavirus pandemic's 'memes,' as replicating cultural units - a second wAve? - re governments in ~200 countries' languages seek to plan for such an emergency. Lots of 'energy' from the coronavirus seems still to be in the air, - and lots of potential 'FREEING up energies' via Lacanian psychoanalysis language-wise (since 'the unconscious is structured like a language' per Lacan), and from Yoga asana, sitting, and meditation. Time for me to do a little Yoga :)

Sending love, Scotty

Some interesting thinking about the Lacan, the unconscious +

"Lacan thought that Freud's ideas of "slips of the tongue", jokes, and the interpretation of dreams all emphasized the agency of language in subjective constitution. In "The Instance of the Letter in the Unconscious, or Reason Since Freud," he proposes that "the unconscious is structured like a language." The unconscious is not a primitive or archetypal part of the mind separate from the conscious, linguistic ego, he explained, but rather a formation as complex and structurally sophisticated as consciousness itself. One consequence of his idea that the unconscious is structured like a language is that the self is denied any point of reference to which to be "restored" following trauma or a crisis of identity. ..."

*
"Jacques Lacan indicates that day-dreams are of secondary importance to Freud, but that their main function is that of wish-fulfillment (Wunscherfullung). ... He adds that these dreams usually remain unconscious, but represent a powerful need for the things that they represent. ..."

Dear Tym, Sid, Caleb, All,

Here's an example of one online psychoanalyst, as an example, Dr Chris Heath MD - https://twitter.com/AChrisHeathMD (who's a Freudian MD psychoanalyst, based in Texas, and somewhat hippy oriented-even interestingly); He's engaged much with social media as well (Youtube too, for ex.).

As a further followup from my April 17, 2020 email, and regarding making online psychoanalysis and psychiatry available, I suppose it's especially here in Canyon 94516 (as one 'remote' place I'm currently familiar with), for example, that this could benefit people (but cost, quality, and with high achieving MDs are significant issues).

...

Am not sure how Kaiser Permanente and SF Bay Area related health care organizations approach to mental health questions in Canyon 94516, if an issue comes up, - and legally even too. I think in general there's much need especially with online psychoanalysis, and psychiatry, in order to study this further academically and rigorously, and I wonder, even, if WUaS could be of help in these regards as well (with emerging opportunities for online psychoanalysis, and psychiatry, in the coronavirus pandemic).

Preventive psychiatry?
I just noted that the former clerk of the SF Quaker Meeting, Chris Mohr, posted his wife's Tweet, (both moved to Philadelphia a few years' ago with their 2 sons as 'professional Quakers' - i.e. they got jobs in Quaker organizations there, and their kids went to Quaker high schools, the oldest heading on to Haverford College not too long ago) about their youngest son who's going to Princeton University this autumn:

"Chris Mohr's youngest son Thanks to Miss Tammy of @FriendsSelect_ for the cupcakes and the super sweet sign from Tracy and Kristen! #Classof2020
@FSSUpperSchool @chrismsf - https://twitter.com/robinmsf/status/1256304129225494528?s=20 ."

And given my experience in the SF Quaker Meeting with whistle blowing about sexual misconduct with children, and seeing a fair amount of benefits of / need for psychiatry as well as potentially psychoanalysis (in the future potentially for some there too), I wonder somehow even if Chris and Robin's move with their 2 sons somehow even saved their youngest son in particular from serious harm's way.

Psychiatrists like Dr. Karriem Salaam at Friends' Hospital could help! - Again, I was very very impressed with adolescent psychiatrists Dr. Karriem Salaam a few years ago, and I'd think that Friends' Hospital has many excellent head psychiatrists. The video of Dr. Salaam is impressive here in a related Tweet (from 9 Sep 2018):

"How to prepare your kids for life on their own ahead of college - from Friends' Hospital in Philadelphia, one of America's oldest continuously operated mental hospitals:
Dr. Karriem Salaam gives some tips on preparing your children for life on their own. http://fox29.com/good-day/355005577-video… > https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/The_College_at_World_University_and_School… ~"

https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1042495999061585921?s=20

While Dr. Salaam isn't a psychoanalyst (and did he grow up as a Quaker, a 'birthright Friend'?), I'd think that he'd have some good ideas for psychiatry and psychoanalysis as well among Quakers, Canyon residents, and other people in remote locations, as well as in cities.

All the best,
Scott

And how would Yoga's beneficial inner neurophysiology differ from the outcome of psychoanalysis - speculatively? How does psychoanalysis work? How does Yoga work?

* * *

Hi Ma,

The piping lesson I gave Taylor yesterday evening went well again. (And I now even have 2 recordings from which I learn further about my teaching!)

Blogged about my "Online psychoanalysis ... " email to you and many friends yesterday, as well as my emails to you this morning - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/05/live-oak-yoga-i-think-inner-fruit.html.

And how would the generation of Yoga's beneficial inner neurophysiology differ from the outcome of psychoanalysis - speculatively? How does psychoanalysis work? How does Yoga work?

Here's (a slightly clowning, but edifying and insightful)
Chris Heath MD:
"How Does Psychotherapy Work? Find Yourself. Freudalicious Mind"

And when I typed in "How does Yoga work?" in Google Search, I found:
"Yoga does more than burn calories and tone muscles. It's a total mind-body workout that combines strengthening and stretching poses with deep breathing and meditation or relaxation. There are more than 100 different forms of yoga. Some are fast-paced and intense."
https://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/a-z/yoga-workouts

But I'd head toward too:

"Hippy-anjali Yoga Notations" ~
http://www.scottmacleod.com/yoganotations.html

I think both Yoga and psychoanalysis head in the direction of ideas about the 'self' too with regard to generation of beneficial 'fruit cocktails' of bodymind and brain neurophysiology.

And how does music work in some of these regards, in parallel inquiries?

Love, Scott

I don't think I'd have thought about the dream about Stanford Law Prof Hank Greely and giving him a back rub as he was doing a Yoga pose, and then doing a Yoga pose next to him, hands on a bookshelf, without psychoanalytic thinking. Hmmm ... but heading beyond "The Interpretation of Dreams," Yoga gets pretty deeply into dreams and envisioning too and re Angela and Victor's Yoga in particular for me in these regards. Consciousness and awareness questions in many ways too ... language helps.

Prem and Aditi write 2 emails to World Univ & Sch about the WUaS Minutes from 5/16/20:

Minutes for World Univ & Sch's Monthly Business Meeting on Saturday, May 16, 2020

Some thoughts -

Hi Aditi,

Am resending this to you and Prem, since I mis-typed your email:

Hi Prem (and Aditi, from India but possibly in Nigeria), Thanks for your emails.

Prem:
First: WUaS is seeking undergraduate students - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University - to matriculate online in English for free-to-students' 4-year Bachelor degrees from home in India - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/The_College_at_World_University_and_School. This platform will be on something like MIT OCW > MITx on the edX platform (of which MIT Professor of EECS and CEO of edX is Anant Agarwal). WUaS is still working on developing these collaborations.

Re your: "Can you please give the outline of WUaS focus in Indian Languages and how we are going to impact the students here in India especially those who are from different languages and cultures?"

Second: WUaS is seeking to develop open wiki schools for open teaching and learning in all of India's ~800 languages (and eventually too to offer Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, MD and IB high school degrees in all 22 of India's official languages). Planning for all 7,117 known living languages here to be accessible from here - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages. So how best to cultivate these wiki schools, or teach people how to grow them, a bit like Wikipedia's communities in its ~300 languages, - is a creative open question. And World Univ & Sch donated WUaS to Wikidata for co-development in 2015, and received the above WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki in 2017 above, but 'front end' and 'back end' aren't yet interoperable. In the meantime, people can wiki-teach, wiki-learn, wiki-edit the existing languages wiki schools (not yet in their languages). And thus people could create wiki subjects in areas that would help them, or be inspiring to them, - and check if there's any MIT OpenCourseWare or not to add - and then wiki-teach, wiki-create and WUaS wiki-develop away, potentially all on smartphones. An illiterate farmer with a smartphone could potentially teach something about farming to Youtube and share this with other farmers 200 miles away in other languages ... and eventually all via voice input.

Re your: "What all subjects we are offering in online for students and the validity of the certificate we are giving?"

WUaS is currently planning 6 majors, 1) EECS, 2) General Engineering, 3) General Science, 4) English, 5) History, 6) Business - see: http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - for free-to-students' online 4-year Bachelor degrees (as if going to MIT or Stanford on the ground itself)  to begin this autumn with 500-2000 students as WUaS seeks to license with CA's BPPE and accredit concurrently with WASC senior ... on something like edX from MIT OCW into MITx conceptually. If WUaS can collaborate more fully with edX, and engage machine translation, many of the edX courses would become available for certificates in all 7,117 living languages.

Re your: "I hope the coming years there will be a huge demand for online courses and also online classes like courses we are having in the campuses. " - I hope so too, Prem!

Aditi:
Thanks for your:

"Hi Scott,

Do you require any online tutors for creating courses or teaching Journalism/ PR/ Newspaper designing and layout/ Writing and Editing?

Aditi"

Would you like to explore wiki-editing one of these pages:

Using this citation practice, explore if you can add the following reference to "Select Books" -

And then perhaps, if interested, could you find a Youtube video, or virtual world, or similar for the "Marketing" wiki subject, and add this resource there?

Perhaps, then Aditi, you could explore tutoring interested people (your friends in an Indian language) in how to add resources to World Univ & Sch, and thus to teach in a sense, and thus also how to grow WUaS's communities? It's a little like adding a sentence to a Wikipedia article in a language of the editor's choice. WUaS's focus is on free and highest quality resources - currently mostly in English. I'd think that further new good ideas of yours would emerge as you explore this! What do you think?

Thanks for both of your emails!

With regards, and Namaste!
Scott

Dear Scott,

Thanks for the minutes. I just gone through that and I really appreciate your effort in bringing the WUaS into its wings. The team is really hard working and I praise God for that. Can you please give the outline of WUaS focus in Indian Languages and how we are going to impact the students here in India especially those who are from different languages and cultures. What all subjects we are offering in online for students and the validity of the certificate we are giving.

I hope the coming years there will be a huge demand for online courses and also online classes like courses we are having in the campuses.

With regards
Prem

Hi Ma (Jane), David, Ed, Pin, Susan (Sioux), and Tym,

Shared these pictures this morning with the 1st 4 of you and this email address, from Google Photos, as I learn further about how this I.T. works, and am now wanting to share these photos from my sgkmacleod@gmail.com account, - and regarding taking these pictures on a side road close to Harbin Hot Springs where I sometimes camped in my Subaru Legacy (in pic) when doing field work, and these poems I wrote at the time, partly regarding this hill side. (Am not sure how these particular photos popped up on my smartphone this morning, making it possible to share them - Peter Norvig???)

Found these poems of mine relate to these pictures ... re this side road near Harbin Hot Springs ... by searching on "Eupalinos" (as in "Tunnels of Eupalinos" in Greece on Samos Isle, and the 8th wonder of the world, per Herodotus possibly?) and searching on "Ferdinand" as in (Ferdinand the Bull, about which I emailed Sioux yesterday):

in which I found this Will Durant definition of 'wisdom,' which web site - http://www.willdurant.com/wisdom.htm (when I clicked on it, it took me to a Norwegian domain in Norwegian curiously) - no longer works, so I looked in archive.org and found it here from 2012 - https://web.archive.org/web/20120123104627/http://www.willdurant.com/wisdom.htm ... Interesting illuminating definition (with its focus on holism ).

And there are some other poems from this 2011 year and related in blog, also written partly while camping on this side road (and at Harbin).

How are you? Am hoping this finds you swimmingly! :) It's 81 F here in Canyon today on the ridge (at the verge of too hot, and will be in the high 90s through Saturday when it's supposed to get to 78F, back in the reasonable sphere somewhat ... and re shelter-at-home essential needs, I may find my way in air conditioned car into some of the cooler East Bay MUD valleys in upcoming days). Life partner seeking continues ... :) Z.B.? a MD out here in the SF Bay Area? Am staying tuned! :) What's the weather by you?

Scott
PS
Ed, per our visit in Canyon yesterday - thanks for coming over, and am glad your sense of Canyon has changed from the words you used "scary" and "intimidating" so that you came over! (after 3-4 years it seems), it seems there are about 10 main languages in Nigeria - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_Nigeria (and not 6-7 as I had mentioned, and had heard too at Stanford, and 206 million people, not 110 million, where CA has 40 million people, and the USA 320 million people) - and English is its official language as well!

PPS
Ed, I think we saw a version of the Plains Garter snake - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plains_garter_snake and https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d4/Plains_garter_snake_%28Thamnophis_radix%29.jpg and https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a3/Thamnophis-radix.JPG -  in Indian Valley in East Bay MUD in Canyon 94516 yesterday.

Hi Ma (Jane), David, Ed, Pin, Susan (Sioux), and Tym,

Related blog post in the works - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/05/common-garter-snake-harbin-hot-springs.html - with the very yellow-sided garter snake, I think, which we saw drinking water with its little red tongue, in "Indian Valley," as we crossed that nearly dry creek. (I couldn't quite find yellow enough sides when searching in Wikipedia or WikiCommons, so am wondering about variation in speciation, as well as whether the so-called Plains' Garter Snake could be out west as well?)

Would still like to add your great DNA-related find of James Edward McLeod's parents from Isle of Raasay in Scotland - Norman MacLeod and Isobel MacKenzie - to my tree with a click, but this hasn't worked out any number of times. (A kind of frustration emerges regarding the $20 / month too to A .com that their software seems to be so bad, that there's no feedback loop for improving it, and they don't seem to be on a path to improve it either, whatsoever). Would seek to give people the control of their own narratives in such a related emergent realistic virtual earth for home genealogy - and at WUaS even ... in a way that echoes Google's ethos / culture (re data ownership questions too, re science questions, as well as re narratives) - and with time in 3D conversational interactivity even (eg I'd like to be able to converse with James Edward McLeod on PEI, in the Boston area, and in Scotland - am thinking Google Street View with time slider where the little "Pegman" avatar grows into realistic avatars or 'artificial humans' per Samsung 'Neons' even) - All dovetailing with a single realistic virtual earth for history, realistic virtual earth for geology, realistic virtual earth for archaeology (see related #Hashtags in Twitter ).

Thanks for the note Scott. Ancestry software does indeed suck. But I have found ways to get around some issues and mostly have learned to live with the inefficiencies. I think the reason people stick with Ancestry is their huge worldwide database of information, including the largest DNA database. Somehow I don't think they will freely give that over to Google or anybody else.

As I have said before, simply having the data does not mean you understand how everyone is connected. That still takes work and time. AI could make it easier but I think it will be a while before we can eliminate the tedious work of piecing it all together. I suspect a lot of what Ancestry serves up as 'hints' is driven by some sophisticated software.

Now for a fun fact and an example of just one complexity:

Yesterday I discovered a DNA connection to a Gary Johnson. Jim Alan MacLeod,  you, my sister Jen, my nephew Mark Shoemaker, Mary Bonczek and I are all matches to both Gary and his sister Lori. You'll find both in your Ancestry match list at a low 8 cMs. Jim Alan matches at 24 cMs.

Who is Gary Johnson, you ask!

Do you remember, in 2016, that there was a Libertarian candidate for President, running against Trump and Clinton? It was Gary Johnson, the same person that is our DNA match! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Johnson#CEO_of_Cannabis_Sativa_Inc.

And how are we related, you ask!

It's complicated. His father was adopted and it looks like some wily ancestor of ours got his grandmother pregnant when she was only 19 and unmarried. She gave Gary's father up for adoption. We don't know who this wily bugger was but we may just find out with some more digging a DNA matching. I've been in email contact with both Lori and Gary.

Thanks, and interesting, Mark,

Am a bit wary - philosophical skepticism might be another way of saying this - of wily critters, including re knowledge generation, and re emergent narratives too ... (and seeking here even to marry a MD, someone I'm attracted to, a Z.B. possibly? ... or ... re family tree genealogy questions ...

Am curious in an ongoing way about WikiTree's remarkable potential (and regarding WUaS's focus on coding for 7.5 billion people in a variety of ways - and these 5 to begin, including genes-wise - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/12/wild-pomegranate-burchellia-bubalina.html - and happy New Year again!).

"How soon could humans reverse the aging process with genetic engineering?"

- which you'll also find a couple of times in these longevity label blog posts - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/longevity ... Am wondering what the implications for family genealogy are if we manage to reverse aging genetically, and live beyond 122 years of age in our bodyminds (... the upper known documented limit - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeanne_Calment).

And to follow up on an email I sent this morning to Mark, my mother (Janie ) + ... :

Mark,

here's another take on genetic ownership questions (gene database / narrative ownership, etc.), re other species ... a Wikidata Q-item # for individual species (where I just started adding the Wikidata q-item # relating to my often beginning a daily blog entry with a species - or natural object - at bottom of yesterday's "Sugar cone pine" post - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/05/sugar-cone-pine-pinus-lambertiana-prem.html - which Wikidata Q-items will presumably carry the genome of such species eventually, and be CC-0 licensed ... and presumably carry individual organism's genomes in the future as well. (Wikidata is Wikipedia's back end structured knowledge database in ~300 languages, and to which WUaS donated itself for co-development in 2015, and then received our WUaS front end WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki in 2017 - eg https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects and see /Genetics or eventually /MacLeod_Society_Worldwide wiki subjects for ex., - as a consequence). George Church has long been developing the only crowdsourced opensource database - https://www.technologyreview.com/2006/01/20/229785/the-personal-genome-project-2/ - for research as well.

Scott

Mark, and All,

Found the language I was referring to re "world's only open-access human genome and trait data sets" (per George Church):

"To aid in the interpretation and sharing of genomes, Church, in 2005, initiated the Personal Genome Project (PGP),[63] which provides the world's only open-access human genome and trait data sets.[64][65][66] " (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Church_(geneticist)) ... which I would think will become interoperable with WikiTree eventually (eg https://www.wikitree.com/treewidget/MacLeod-2524/5).

Family regards, Scott

Genealogy software, and new developments - the 'trait' word - and planning for 7.5 billion people re diversity, and a single family tree:

Mark, Sandy, All

Sandy: What would make a great artist-in-residence position at a university? (see below).

Thanks, Mark (from this morning):

"Scott,

One excellent and free source of genealogical info is "Family Search." A bit clumsy interface but it's run my the Mormon church - a group that takes genealogy seriously! I find their record collection to be excellent.

Mark"

And my reply to Mark this morning:

Mark:

Thanks, and interesting (re Family Search).

Hank Greely re Ancestry .com and DNA yesterday ...

"I've the data download from Ancestry as well as a moderately deep Y chromosome analysis. John & I just haven't figured out a way to compare codes."

https://twitter.com/HankGreelyLSJU/status/1265039249767665664?s=20

Will genetics' textbooks be re-written remarkably for 'trait' language in next 10-20 years per the sentence ...

"To aid in the interpretation and sharing of genomes, Church, in 2005, initiated the Personal Genome Project (PGP),[63] which provides the world's only open-access human genome and trait data sets.[64][65][66] " (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Church_(geneticist)) ... which I would think will become interoperable with WikiTree eventually (eg https://www.wikitree.com/treewidget/MacLeod-2524/5).

... which genealogists will then explore for their own family genealogy/history?  (Have you ever checked out a genetics' textbook for your genealogy research? I haven't yet).

Am glad Stanford Law Prof Hank Greely is Tweeting about Ancestry. Maybe Google / Stanford will get their hands' on Ancestry .com software - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/05/hawksbill-sea-turtle-great-family.html - with WikiTree, and navigate the genetic information revolution ahead  (I teach a bit about this in http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html ie it's as significant as the 3 other IT revolutions, microelectronics, computers, & telecommunications -
The Information Technology Revolution: History and Geography (Scott MacLeod)

https://youtu.be/FJIy6LpZLeI and http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2010/04/black-lace-mushrooms-information.html).

One issue that WikiTree's plans for 7.5 billion people will add re the Mormon Church's genealogy, and others,' is diversity: "WikiTree: Together we're growing an accurate single family tree using DNA and traditional genealogical sources." (Am recalling Alex Haley's "Roots" book from the '70s even in these regards).

Will check out Family Search with time, Mark! (But could this be integrated too with a Stanford / Google / WikiTree / Ancestry .com approach to Ancestry family genealogy software (re their entrepreneurialism, and since A is probably making money)?:) Looks like WikiTree possibly has a 256 ancestor limit, I just noticed. Thanks!

Warm regards, Scott

PS In a 25 minute call with Margo Warnecke yesterday, I seem to have been offered an artist-in-residence position yesterday in Sonoma having attended a Stanford Historical Society presentation online - https://mailchi.mp/c1b4dd9afe60/2020-winter-newsletter-4905445?e=d9473d6051 - about architect John Carl Warnecke by granddaughter - at the Warnecke ranch / Institute - https://www.chalkhillresidency.com/artist-residency. Having published 3 books of poetry and in playing the Scottish Small Pipes, would this be structured & remunerated like a Stanford University artist in residency, I wonder? And could my hypothetical wife-to-be occupy my place in Canyon 945616 while I was in residence? I just looked and this position isn't structured like a Stanford artist-in-residency at all, rather it looks like residents pay rent - so am not interested in this position after all. BUT could I instead explore an artist-in-residency position at Stanford University itself, if I were to find one posted, and after Stanford opens again?

Gonna be hot here today again! :)

Ma!

Thanks so much for "Fwd: Beautiful spot - ... " ducks' picture and note.

Glad you're staying sane, and befriending wonderful animal friends. :)

Am recalling George, again, on who he listens to, and whose books he reads, too ... Richard Dawkins, for ex., yes (whom I think is amazing and brilliant too) ... but not to many others in regards to the messaging that goes on among writers who share ideas, thinkers, communicators, media personalities, teachers. I don't see you as being that philosophically skeptical in your 'modus operandi,' and au contraire even, I see you as very trusting, caring, nurturing, but I think skepticism has much merit with regards to how messages can seem 'attractive,' for example... caveat emptor (buyer beware?) and with symbolizers, news' shows, - smart friends even?

George was a learner, and receptive too (idea-wise), and so philosophical skepticism, and his remarkably wit  regarding his critique thinking, linguistically (as a Lacanian too), was something I learned from as well.

Love, Scott

Dear Sanjay,
Thanks so much for your email.

WUaS is going to list edX links in our WUaS course catalog - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VRHhXYsk-V9lvSh5onaU2hnEhwoapSN7HyBK1P09LIk/edit?usp=sharing, accessible from http://worlduniversityandschool.org/. Is there anything we should be aware of in these regards?

We intend to offer free-to-students' programs with 6 majors: 1) EECS, 2) General Science, 3) General Engineering, 4) English, 5) History, 6) Business - see: http://worlduniversityandschool.org/.  How can World Univ & Sch collaborate with the MIT Office of Digital Learning to begin to offer those programs in English this autumn?  Other languages would follow shortly afterwards.

World Univ & Sch intends to seek reimbursement from non-student sources regarding CC-4 MIT OCW > MITx on the edX platform. How might we use the money transfer mechanism on edX to accomplish this?

Thank you, Scott

Dear Larry,
I think we're / WUaS is good. Sanjay writes : "Thanks Scott."
Now to figure out the next steps.
California's BPPE preferred the "Programs'' word to the "Majors"' word in February 2019.
Sincerely, Scott

Dear Larry,

I've started to add MIT OCW > edX courses to the WUaS Course Catalog - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VRHhXYsk-V9lvSh5onaU2hnEhwoapSN7HyBK1P09LIk/edit?usp=sharing .

I went here -
MITx Courses and Related OCW Courseware

searched on "engineering" and found
which links to -

and so I added this to the WUaS catalog:

GENG 302 Management in Engineering: Strategy and Leadership Major-3 Mech. Eng. https://www.edx.org/course/management-in-engineering-ii

- and there are 2 MIT professors teaching it.

Success! This edX course starts August 11, and is an 'intermediate' course per edX. Shall we add the rest of these MITx courses, and then announce some of the courses' beginning dates in next month's WUaS Monthly Business Meeting News and Agenda? I think Edward G. has expressed interest in an engineering major.

Thanks for your excellent 'MIT English' again re Sanjay's affirmative response!

Sincerely, Scott

Dear Larry,

Thanks so much. I could see this further letter in conversation with Sanjay - in hindsight - as a bit of a gamble, but I think the language of "WUaS is going to list edX links ... " is good logical MIT 'engineering' language, while recognizing a system, and which worked ... and it means that the MIT Office for Digital Learning doesn't have to do anything to speak of, whatsoever ... since there was no response to the questions. I think the timing was good too - ie we hadn't heard back yet regarding Sanjay's "Stay tuned" ... and so WUaS emailed, and then we did hear back this morning with "Thanks Scott." - and WUaS is in the driver's seat so-to-write. The "Your email to President Reif" thread is also a developing conversation.

Now how to plan for using a kind of WikiTree end user schema (presumably wiki and planning for 7.5 billion people) for WUaS matriculated students), and even for our WUaS remuneration / bookstore ? And re UBI experiments too, here's the Stanford Basic Income Lab new map of "Global Map of UBI Experiments: Where Have We Been, Where Are We Now, and Where Are We Going?" - https://basicincome.stanford.edu/news/lab-updates/global-map-of-ubi-experiments-where-have-we-been-where-are-we-now-and-where-are-we-going/ - in an email this morning from Juliana Bidadanure (who's French, and Stanford professor of philosophy) and is executive director of the Stanford Basic Income Lab. (And it could be good to connect now with the "Mine Pi" folks at Stanford, or the "BitCoin" folks at MIT with Neha Narula - and the Federal Reserve, and the European Central Bank, and the Silicon Valley long term stock exchange :)).

Would be great for a programmer to simply add all the relevant links from CC-4 MIT OCW > MITx on edX to the WUaS Course Catalog ... but probably not yet, and I'll seek to add some, or all 205 of these courses, by hand. These GDocs WUaS Course Catalog spreadsheet links may eventually become a master course catalog that will feed into the WUaS Wiki Universities on relevant subjects - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects - in all Wikidata's ~300 languages. :)

Thank you, Larry, for our MIT email drafts' conversations!

Sincerely,
Scott

Dear Larry,

Also could Stanford's John Etchemendy (via John Hennessy?) help with BPPE licensing - https://twitter.com/CaBPPE  ... no new workshops seem posted, and maybe things are shifting there too, - and WUaS doesn't have the monies anyway. How is it that you thought to edit/add the "programs' word (in addition to the 'majors' word) into the WUaS email?

I'm hoping the BPPE licensing process goes much more automatically than I got the sense of at the 2/20/19 workshop - and re MIT OCW > edX courses!

Sincerely,
Scott

Am wondering if some of those people signed up for your Dartington Hall Yoga course seminar:

Dartington Hall, Devon, UK

Angela Farmer and Victor van Kooten
(3rd weekend of July)

would take it online in their homes - from Dartington Hall in the background - and with you in Eftalou, Lesvos, Greece? Kinda like an aereoplane idea internet-wise without plague-like ring around the rosie posies ... Am realizing you're not heading in the computing direction, but if all is one, and a computer is an airplane, well ... And would other people 'travel' in their homes - to Dartington Hall - for this Yoga course even? It wouldn't surprise me ... but you'd probably need some new artistic pilots gliding with you through it all ... in fact, you, Angela and Victor, could probably be in your Eftalou Yoga Hall, and even bypass the Dartington Hall, although it might be interesting for the English Dartington Hall Yoginis and Yogis to take their course with you there (even with you in Greece, and they in their homes:)

And next an Angela and Victor Yoga course from the Harbin Conference Center in 2012, or from the Harbin Temple in 2008? :) All virtually (in Google Street View with TIME SLIDER) ... with you in front of your iPads, or laptops (and maybe with just a video camera or two in your Yoga Hall in Eftalou) ... I don't know of any artistic aereoplane virtual Yoga hall pilot internet videographers however, I'm sorry to say. (A 'Partner Yoga' course from a virtual Harbin warm pool eventually too? ... with everyone eliciting the relaxation response inner releasing action meditation-wise while in the bath at home? ... :)

CC-4 MIT OCW links in World Univ & Sch's 6 majors - with about 75 / 2400 courses * WUaS's 'English' and 'History' majors in Course Catalog * Collaborating with Yale, and MIT & Harvard, as well as Stanford?

*
Plan Z?

Dear Larry,

I clicked on all of our CC-4 MIT OCW links in WUaS's 6 majors - about 75 courses - and found about 14 edX < MITx courses, and have listed them -

WUaS 'English' and 'History' majors in Course Catalog had, by far, a majority of CC-3 licensed Yale OpenYaleCourses (OYC) with no YaleX links whatsoever - https://oyc.yale.edu/courses - so WUaS doesn't have the ability to offer the first year of an 'English' major, a major I'd think might have many WUaS applicants. And the MIT Literature courses I checked out don't have any edX links as well. These 7 courses, however, could be good starting places - https://www.edx.org/search?tab=course&q=English%20literature - from BerkeleyX, HarvardX, TsinghuaX and WellesleyX. There are however 62 'Literature' courses in edX. And It seems like Yale is listing many online courses with Coursera, and not edX. (Could be worth exploring if we could add these Coursera links/URLs as well to WUaS's catalog with time? ) And there are 413 'History' courses on edX - https://www.edx.org/search?tab=course&q=History

Our WUaS prospective 1st English major, Shabhaz Sanjer, in India, just just now emailed, and asked about an English major beginning in the autumn, and perhaps the above would work as a starting point.

One question/ further clarification for MIT Professor and VP in Office of Digital Learning Sanjay Sarma: "Could WUaS please add these other edX courses to our WUas course catalog, as MIT and Harvard prepare their online platforms for the autumn in this time of coronavirus pandemic" OR "WUaS is going to add other edX courses, besides MIT OCW into MITx on the edX platform ... " I wonder what edX's relationship with these other BerkeleyX, HarvardX, TsinghuaX and WellesleyX etc. universities is, re fees, and who can list, and how reimbursement to these Universities from edX works?

So WUaS is a little short presently on courses beginning in the autumn for WUaS undergraduates in our 6 majors, but I wonder about listing other edX courses - and regarding seeking reimbursement, and regarding the edX money transfer mechanism. Am wondering too what MIT lawyers, or MIT legal processes the MIT Office of Digital Learning, and edX too, check out at MIT in all these regards too. There are probable enough courses to work with to cobble something together, all in all. Am not sure, however, how edX will communicate with the Departments of Education in all ~200 countries however. Our WUaS outreach is also a question.

I've also listed all 260 MITx courses I found in edX just below WUaS majors - as one link in the WUaS Course Catalog. And I listed the "MicroMasters® Program in Finance" on one line in the Course Catalog too, with its 5 courses, just under the WUaS Business Major.

Time to begin to see if we can add some more non-MITx courses to the WUaS Course Catalog, then figure out WUaS credit hours, - and perhaps even a rockin' first year required Reed Hum 110 course transposed into WUaS Hum 101, but on the edX platform, and created by Reed - and then figure out planning for WUaS cohorts too, if possible, with this Hum 101 course?

Build this all out on a Google Sites' platform professionally, and with planning for many languages? What about registering our WUaS students with a Wikidata Q-item number or Wikidata PIN # - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University

Suggestions, questions, thoughts, ideas?

Sincerely, Scott

Plan A:

Dear Larry,

But assuming WUaS won't be able to engage all these other institutions, re our CC-4 MIT OCW-centric focus, perhaps we can focus on plan A, namely, to hire graduate student instructors from great universities to teach to CC-4 MIT OCW courses in real time with live group interactivity. In a sense WUaS could give such graduate student instructors, learning to become faculty, free rein to "riff" with MIT OCW courses. And in these regards, I did find all of WUaS's majors, except 'General Science' (go figure, or go solve for X, or something) at MIT OCW:

EECS:

Science:

Engineering:

English:

History:

Business:

Perhaps we could provide a bit of structure for our WUaS graduate students as well, like finding students, and providing a few other benefits of teaching in an online platform in a startup great university.

The lack of 'Science' MIT OCW page, upon searching, is a bit of a concern, but WUaS can probably work around this as well :)

And then perhaps we can combine Plan A with my previous email today as a kind of Plan Z :)

Thanks to the MIT Office of Digital Learning!

Sincerely, Scott

Blogging about this today:

* *

Am curious if WUaS could eventually request MIT OCW courses to be translated into MITx / edX courses. Here's an Anthropology course taught by MIT Professors (Quaker I think) Heather Paxson, and Reedie (Reed College alumnus) Graham Jones, as an example - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/anthropology/21a-157-the-meaning-of-life-spring-2019/ . Can't seem to find Python's original meaning of life, but this will do:) ... Do you know this Monty Python version of

Monty Python's The Meaning of Life | The Miracle of Birth

Seeking I think first to list only the MIT OCW > MITx - and then to look at the rest of the MITx courses, as well as the rest of the edX courses. Searching by starting date could have merit too. What do you think about all this cross-referencing of lists? Thoughts, questions, ideas, suggestions?

Sincerely,

Scott

Taylor,

I found this insight fascinating from

Yo Yo Ma:
'The whole idea is service: You use your technique to transcend it, in order to serve ...'

"Most of all the whole point of Solve is service. It's you use your technique to transcend it in order to serve."

Hi Taylor,

Good music-making (bagpiping) this evening in Skype. (I didn't know you had philosophical inclinations, which I noticed in Academia.edu, even in the 'Religion' vein, which I studied and majored in at Reed College). Am finding Cellist Yo Yo Ma a remarkably virtuosic music teacher as well.

Yo Yo Ma:

Something like: "The whole idea is service: You use your technique to transcend it, in order to serve ..."

Thank you.

Taylor, thanks! My Reed thesis was on feminist theology and focused on Rosemary Ruether's book "Sexism and God-talk: Toward a Feminist Theology," but one of my junior qualifying exams was on the problem of evil (re theodicy and John Hick's work - https://www.iep.utm.edu/hick/). Am now somewhat atheistically Quaker inclined (Nontheist Friends - or NtFs), UU too, - although my actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic project, especially creating a realistic virtual Harbin - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualHarbin?src=hashtag_click - for soaking too is a main focus these days (a bit on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic), and I suppose am a bit of a Harbin-ite in some ways as well; see: https://www.amazon.com/author/scottmacleodworlduniversity). Reed's Hum 110 required first year course also focused on Aquinas and Augustine, for example. Academically, for me, ahead: MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School. :)

Glad to see you two connecting.

Seeking too to facilitate a #RealisticVirtualEarthForGeology - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForGeology?src=hashtag_click - in a single realistic virtual earth (for everything) - and conceptually like Google Street View / Maps / Earth with TensorFlow AI and group buildable too like SL, but realistic, and at the cellular and atomic levels too. This would be for actual-virtual, physical-digital developments in science, as well as robotics especially. (Here's a Livermore CA oil fields' example - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/10/double-flowered-world-univ-schs-live.html - coming into conversation with a Stanford Geology talk, where Mark got his Master's degree leading to his career, I think). This would be at MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch, and as STEM field sites, and as classrooms too - but also entrepreneurially/commercially (like for oil extraction with atmospheric and ocean science planning).

All the best,

Mark, this just popped up in Twitter:

A compact comparison between Julia, R and Python - Data science in 2020
#DataScience #rstats #JuliaLang #Python by Günter Röhrich via

https://twitter.com/rzembo/status/1266771604371103746?s=20 - https://towardsdatascience.com/julia-r-and-python-7cd50c2b0fe4 -

I think the Tweeter is the chief CTO of Vanguard Mutual Funds (of all things) and Tweeting much about AI and machine learning.

And will these be the next programming languages for one realistic virtual earth (re geology and atmosphere simulations too)? There's both a windy road picture in the article (that's like the one on my Google Smart TV - so presumably in Google Street View too) ... And there's also a data table in the article for an iris flower - also germane to a realistic virtual earth for evolutionary biology - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForEvolution?src=hashtag_click - and keying flower species (angiosperms). Is the windy road in a Celtic language country?

And could the windy road image have anything to do with John Hennessy, chair of Alphabet, and former president of Stanford for 16 years?

All of this is very germane too for creating a realistic virtual Harbin Hot springs for actual-virtual, physical-digital ethnographic comparison (into one realistic virtual earth / universe! :) ... See blog post again - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/10/double-flowered-world-univ-schs-live.html - in these regards too.

Mark, do you know Robert Zembowicz, or John Hennessy?

The idea with all of us creating a realistic virtual earth together - ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy (I'm calling this) - would be even as a new kind of publishing (post -

https://twitter.com/yalepress/status/1266792774281703425?s=20 ).

All the best,

Greetings to Cathe, Mary - and to your mom. My mother's enjoying her new cottage out in Verona / Oakmont - and I think they're in communication, although I didn't see your mom over Xmas, like I saw many of their friends. Do you miss your home on Linden, then your parents' home on Juniata Ct, all of a block and a half away:)? I sometimes wonder if we live longer than the upper age limit of 122 due to aging reversal genetics - https://youtu.be/bnCEIPQFNnk (and if we're in good health) - whether my mother could consider re-purchasing her home on Juniata Ct as a kind of creative project even, in addition to a home (since I could conceivably send my kids to Shady Side Academy as a high school perhaps, for ex., too) :)

Mary, what does Corporate Affairs entail? (World Univ & Sc is seeking to create major universities in all ~200 countries with online law schools even!)

Stay well!,

Hi Shahbaz,

Thanks for your emails, and your inquiries about an online free-to-students' Bachelor's degree program in English from India beginning this autumn 2020. And I hope you are doing well in these coronavirus pandemic times.

The good news is MIT Professor Sanjay Sarma, and VP in the Office of Digital Learning has said (https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/05/cosmos-bipinnatus-heard-back-from-mit.html) that World University and School can add MIT OCW > MITx courses on the edX platform to our WUaS Course Catalog https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VRHhXYsk-V9lvSh5onaU2hnEhwoapSN7HyBK1P09LIk/edit?usp=sharing (http://worlduniversityandschool.org/). Thanks to Sanjay! And WUaS has begun to add these edX courses.

The further good news is that there are about 69 'English' (7) and 'Literature' (62) edX courses (from many different universities offered on the edX platform), which I found recently (https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/05/starfish-fromia-monilis-cc-4-mit-ocw.html), but these are not necessarily MITx from MIT OCW courses (which WUaS is focused upon due to licensing questions). There are also numerous CC-4 licensed MIT OCW LIterature courses, and there are a fair number of CC-3 licensed Yale OYC English courses too. All of these courses could be offered for free-to-students' Bachelor degrees, - with the edX courses on a more degree-oriented platform than the OpenCourseWare / OpenYaleCourses. WUaS is seeking to ask students to take about 40 courses over 4 years to complete a Bachelor's degree.

In terms of WUaS's licensing (CA's BPPE) which is the first step in then concurrently accrediting (probably with WASC), all of the CA BPPE workshops have been cancelled through the end of 2020 (probably due to the coronavirus pandemic) - https://www.bppe.ca.gov/schools/application_workshops.shtml - which makes it difficult for WUaS to begin to offer online Bachelor (or Ph.D.) degrees that will then become accredited (as WUaS becomes accredited). (Also WUaS doesn't have the BPPE fee money to begin this process anyway).

So the answer to your question is that World Univ & Sch is working to offer online free-to-students' Bachelor degrees in English, and in all of our 6 planned WUaS majors / programs by this autumn 2020, but there are some challenges ahead. Please stay tuned.

Sincerely,
Scott

Dear Larry,

I clicked on all of our CC-4 MIT OCW links in WUaS's 6 majors - about 75 courses - and found about 14 edX < MITx courses, and have listed them -
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VRHhXYsk-V9lvSh5onaU2hnEhwoapSN7HyBK1P09LIk/edit?usp=sharing.

(Could be worth exploring if we could add these Coursera links/URLs as well to WUaS's catalog with time? )

What about registering our WUaS students with a Wikidata Q-item number or Wikidata PIN # - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University?

Suggestions, questions, thoughts, ideas?

Sincerely, Scott

Dear Sanjay, and Larry,

Thanks for the clarification. World Univ & Sch continues to seek to observe the CC-4 MIT OCW, and the edX, licensing terms (and per our communication with MIT OCW director Cecilia d'Oliveira previously, that WUaS may 1) share, 2) adapt, 3) but non-commercially the CC-4 MIT OCW (now in 4 languages), - and see the further licensing clarifications here per her: http://worlduniversityandschool.org/). Am appreciative of the opportunity to communicate with you as MIT Professor and VP in the MIT Office of Digital Learning, and with Anant Agarwal as edX CEO (and with John Hennessy as chair of Alphabet, and former president of Stanford for 16 years, and Anant's professor as well; John may also be helpful with regards to WUaS planned Law and Medical degrees in ~200 countries' official languages emerging from Stanford Medicine and Stanford Law), - with regards to where World Univ & Sch is heading first with online Bachelor and Ph.D. degrees (per CA's BPPE) first in English (and soon in many languages). Thank you!

All the best, Scott

Dear Larry,

Looks like Sanjay's email was about both linking edX courses, and licensing/ endorsement clarifications.

1
Thinking in terms of Shahbaz Sanjer in India, one clarifying question for MIT legal:
Can WUaS add all edX courses, in English lit, for ex., to the WUaS course catalog (not just MIT OCW into MITx)?

I think Sanjay said we can here.

2
In that edX is creating a MicroBachelors and MicroMasters degrees - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicroMasters (and edX here is listed as owner, with Anant and Sanjay as key people) - and since our BPPE workshops are cancelled, could edX/WUaS somehow create a NEW 'MacroBachelor' or 'MajorBachelor' degree with edX name credibility? A 'MacroPhD,''MajorPhD' too (and skip BPPE & WASC altogether)?

3
Reimbursement from countries' Depts. of Education, non-student sources via edX - pegged on MIT tuition level?

4
Am glad WUaS may be getting in communication with MIT legal (rather than edX legal), since this could open avenues to other questions regarding WUaS matriculating students each a Wikidata PIN # in 300 languages (7,117 living languages too regarding WUaS wiki schools?, & 7.5 billion people re UBI experiments too?), transcripts, - and re questions of edX money transfer mechanism.

This would be a very edX-centric set of developments for WUaS, - and I hope that the MIT LEGAL licensing clarifications re above would include questions of remuneration for WUaS.

Am hoping Shahbaz can enroll in the autumn, as model. Quality of WUaS degrees will inform reimbursement from countries' questions. Glad too that Sanjay is beginning to think in terms too of WUaS (and that MIT President Rafael Reif has his PhD from Stanford too, like Anant Agarwal).

Emails today to Varun Shukla near Mumbai, India, prospective 'General Science' major, at World Univ & Sch student:

Dear Varun,

Thank you for your mail. And greetings! Is this your Twitter URL - https://twitter.com/varunss2211? And what languages do you speak? MIT OCW-centric wiki World University & School admission's process is in progress. At this stage, World Univ & Sch will likely offer only 4-year Bachelor degree programs, with these 6 majors - 1) EECS, 2) General Science, 3) General Engineering, 4) English, 5) History, 6) Business - see: http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - but since you already have a Ph.D., why might you be interested in a Bachelor degree? And what major might you apply for?

WUaS will likely have space in our Business major for a free-to-students' MIT OCW-centric Bachelor's degree, providing WUaS could move forward together with edX and regarding the edX platform (which is something WUaS is in communication with edX about). The enrollment process would then be similar to edX's, but stay tuned since WUaS may seek essays, language proficiency, letters of recommendation, & test scores (possibly the CLT - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classic_Learning_Test), etc. - as if someone from India were applying to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) itself on-the-ground in Cambridge, Massachusetts. While World Univ & Sch seeks to begin to offer our online Bachelor's degree classes in collaboration with edX this autumn 2020, the WUaS Ph.D. degrees would begin the following autumn 2021 at the earliest. Applying would probably occur through - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - and I will add you to WUaS's monthly business meetings' emailings. Thank you again for your interest in MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch.

Sincerely, Scott

Dear Larry, and Jayni, and Board of Directors,

Re my email to Varun Shukla in India just now, am wondering about the value, with time, of having our WUaS applicants take a standardized exam online like the CLT - https://www.insidehighered.com/admissions/article/2019/10/21/classic-learning-test-aims-challenge-sat ... which currently costs around US $54, probably out of the range of Varun, and many high achieving students from the developing world seeking a better future for themselves. So would WUaS cover the cost of this? To be seen. What do you think?

In further communication with the MIT Professor and VP in the Office of Digital Learning, Sanjay Sarma, who's uncle or similar is a politician in India I think, am wondering too about reimbursement from Departments of Education in all ~200 countries. Thoughts, questions, ideas, suggestions?

FYI, here's where World Univ & Sch stands with licensing currently:

World Univ & Sch continues to seek to observe the CC-4 MIT OCW, and the edX, licensing terms (and per our communication with MIT OCW director Cecilia d'Oliveira previously, that WUaS may 1) share, 2) adapt, 3) but non-commercially the CC-4 MIT OCW (now in 4 languages), - and see the further licensing clarifications here per her: http://worlduniversityandschool.org/) -

MIT OCW Creative Commons' licensing and endorsement clarifications:
a) MIT is not affiliated with, and does not endorse, World University and School b) MIT does not offer credit to WUaS students, and c) All MIT OpenCourseWare materials are available for free through http://ocw.mit.edu )
And see too correspondence with MIT's Sanjay Sarma - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/05/cosmos-bipinnatus-heard-back-from-mit.html -

And as WUaS prepares for a possible autumn collaboration with edX, WUaS has listed about 75 CC-4 MIT OCW courses, ~14 edX courses, and about 19 CC-3 Yale OYC courses in our course catalog (but wouldn't yet have access to edX MITx courses from MIT OCW grades, for example) - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VRHhXYsk-V9lvSh5onaU2hnEhwoapSN7HyBK1P09LIk/edit?usp=sharing (http://worlduniversityandschool.org/).

WUaS is currently waiting to hear back from MIT Legal per Sanjay with regard to further exploratory steps re linking, licensing and much more.

Sincerely, Scott

Dear Larry, Govind, Kyle, Jayni, Tito, Yuping, Juan, WUaS Board,

Varun Shukla in India has written again with an interest in matriculating at World Univ & Sch this autumn in the General Science major. Our recent correspondence is below.

It's great that WUaS has a prospective student who is interested in our proposed General Science degree, potentially beginning this autumn. Am wondering how the WUaS Admissions' process will grow over the years' ahead. Am wondering too about WUaS seeking a variety of Department of Educations in India for reimbursement, for example; in what ways might WUaS engage MIT Professors, Sanjay Sarma, the VP in the Office of Digital Learning, or Anant Agarwal, edX's CEO in these regards?

As you'll see in this recent blog post, MIT OCW doesn't have a "Science" page upon searching, but it does have a page for our other 5 majors - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/05/starfish-fromia-monilis-cc-4-mit-ocw.html - and WUaS has alos posted only one edX from MITx from MIT OCW Science courses so far.

All the best,
Scott

Thank you for your response. Stay tuned as World Univ & Sch develops its admissions' process, as well as our collaborations with edX. WUaS is seeking to offer courses like this over 4 years - Introduction to Biology - The Secret of Life:
https://www.edx.org/course/introduction-to-biology-the-secret-of-life-3 - for World Univ & Sch credit, as we seek to develop online free-to-students' Bachelor degrees, and also to seek reimbursement from nation states, countries, counties, and states' Departments of Education.

Thank you,
Scott

By the way, Varun Shukla in India writes he's completed both a high school degree and an online, it appears, "Ph.D. in Religion & Doctor of Biblical Studies (D.B.S.) both from ULC, Modesto, California (unaccredited)" - from Universal Life Church and costing $59 - see: https://store.ulc.net/mobile/Product.aspx?ProductCode=doctor-of-biblical-studies AND https://www.degreeinfo.com/index.php?threads/ulc-scamage.39628/ - so I can understand perhaps now why he is interested in the WUaS free-to-students''accrediting' CC-4 MIT OCW-centric Bachelor's degree. He could conceivably even afford the CLT exam from India.

The first step of licensing and accreditation for WUaS may be to go through the CA BPPE's "Application for Approval to Operate for an Institution Non Accredited" - https://www.bppe.ca.gov/forms_pubs/approval_nonaccredited.pdf" - https://twitter.com/CaBPPE - but I've read that the related BPPE workshops are cancelled through 2020.

So, in terms of WUaS's licensing (CA's BPPE) which is the first step in then concurrently accrediting (probably with WASC), all of the CA BPPE workshops have been cancelled through the end of 2020 (probably due to the coronavirus pandemic) - https://www.bppe.ca.gov/schools/application_workshops.shtml - this makes it difficult for WUaS to begin to offer online Bachelor (or Ph.D.) degrees that will then become accredited (as WUaS becomes accredited). (Also WUaS doesn't have the BPPE fee money to begin this process anyway).

So I'm wondering if state of California licensing / accreditation ONLINE is the right direction to head in at this stage - since online licensing / accreditation may be impossible at this stage. And could WUaS collaborate with edX to create potentially our own forms of accreditation, per recent correspondence with Larry: "in that edX is creating a MicroBachelors and MicroMasters degrees - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicroMasters (and edX here is listed as owner, with Anant and Sanjay as key people) - and since our BPPE workshops are cancelled, could edX/WUaS somehow create a NEW 'MacroBachelor' or 'MajorBachelor' degree with edX name credibility? A 'MacroPhD,''MajorPhD' too (and skip BPPE & WASC)?

In a related vein: am curious if WUaS could eventually request MIT OCW courses to be translated into MITx / edX courses. Here's an Anthropology course taught by MIT Professors Heather Paxson (Quaker, I think), and Graham Jones (who's a Reedie - a Reed College Alum), as an example - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/anthropology/21a-157-the-meaning-of-life-spring-2019/ . And do you know this Monty Python version of

Monty Python's The Meaning of Life | The Miracle of Birth

Thoughts, comments, ideas, suggestions?

All the best, Scott

Browser was shutting down as I was writing the last email, and with a familiar error message was popping up just before the Safari browser shut down - the 3-repeat message happens and then Safari closes - and then the 3-repeat message but Safari didn't close ... is this a Google Apple process?

So BPPE may have had its highs and lows in recent decades, and may also be saying with 'non-accredited' licensing to end users, like people in India, PERHAPS to BEWARE. Shall WUaS seek edX 'accreditation' or its own creation, or seek BPPE licensing / WASC senior accreditation for both Bachelor and Ph.D.s (per BPPE, and first in English) - if WUaS had the $5,000 for BPPE and the $10,000 eligibility fee, and then the $1,000 per year per student I think - and then the $10,000 or so to become accredited - with accreditation happening only AFTER we graduate our first undergraduate Bachelor's degree class (but with provisional accreditation in the interim). What  do you think? And what would be best for our students, and seeking reimbursement from Departments of Education in all ~200 countries (and if we were collaborating with edX as well)? And what about 'the other America' and the non-rich 'developing world'? I'd think if we could guarantee quality of degrees, and make these relevant for India and other countries in the developing world, their Departments of Education might appreciate less of an outlay for WUaS degrees (re accreditation) ... even as WUaS seeks to peg reimbursement on MIT's tuition for studying from home degrees.

I've also renewed WUaS's Grants.gov password over the weekend for about the 10th or 15th time, - every 6 weeks (WUaS didn't get a $250,000 grant through Grants.gov a few years ago) - and just received today Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi's Grants' Newsletter, a few days late after the beginning of the month, which lays out grant opportunities. Would a granting agency fund WUaS NEWLY to license with BPPE and then seek accreditation with WASC senior? (Can't also attend the BPPE workshops if they are closed through year's end). Would a granting agency award WUaS monies to hire graduate student instructors from MIT and Harvard and Stanford, without WASC senior or similar accreditation?

Where might the CLT play a role in WUaS seeking and finding high achieving students from around the world - https://www.cltexam.com/home ? Princeton's Robert George on this page went to Quaker schools too I think. I've met him at Stanford as well. I don't think accepting the CLT exam would cost WUaS anything.

Thoughts, ideas, questions, comments? I think a WUaS US degree would have much more value if WUaS was accredited - opening avenues to many careers otherwise inaccessible.

Cheers,
Scott

Hoopoe: CYC June 1 2020 Newsletter and COVID Plan, Emergency planning for a so-called second wave of local coronavirus infections? (Am hypothesizing and really hoping much of this coronavirus pandemic is a "fire drill" or "in case of emergency" in the event of a very very serious global viral epidemic - or otherwise, (hypothetically), why would Massachusetts' health officials be allowing camps to open again, without a vaccine in place?). What do you all think? And could an infectious diseases' MD from Cuttyhunk circles help further develop the CYC Phase 1 / Phase 2 guidelines?

CYC June 1 2020 Newsletter
Happy almost summer! We know this has been an anxious and difficult spring for many families. We hope we can provide a small dose of light-hearted moments for you this summer -- as safely as possible. This will require everyone’s cooperation with our guidelines. Below are important details about our operating plan for Summer 2020:
Directory and Boutique:
  • We feel like we owe it to the Community to continue to honor some of our annual traditions: the Directory will be printed this year, and the boutique will be open
    • We are sending our Directory to the printer on June 1, so if you haven’t renewed your Membership, this is your last call! We will put your Directories in the mail this year, so please be on the lookout for it in June
    • The Boutique will be open. Jenn Warr is ordering a limited run of 2020 swag, and she will notify everyone of her operating plan via our social media channels later in June
Boat availability and classes:
  • We are able to get boats on the water this summer and provide recreation, with modifications. We ask that everyone works together with us to follow the State of MA and local guidelines, out of respect for each other, our staff and students, and our island community
  • Some important items of note:
    • There will be no communal life jackets this summer. To participate, you must bring your own PFD
    • The number of boats on the water may be limited due to a rotating maintenance schedule (N10s) or the need for creating safe distances for rigging (floats)
    • There will be no walk-up boat borrowing, due to required cleaning protocols
    • When social distancing cannot be maintained, face masks must be worn on CYC property

  • In Phase 1, there will be no traditional A, B, or C group. We will offer structured boat borrowing only. Anyone with an active Membership and signed waiver (online) may participate.
    • Family members/cohabiting family only, allowed together in boats
    • Staff will accompany the fleet in crash boats to offer support, and maybe some fun structured activities
    • You may sign up to participate via a white board 24 hours in advance
      • Morning Fleet: 9-11am N10s, Zests, Lasers
      • Afternoon Fleet: 1-4pm Lasers, Zests, 420s
        • Typhoons will not be available until end of June/early July
  • In Phase 2, A, B, and C group may resume, with modifications
    • Family members/cohabiting family or consenting “cohorts” only allowed together in boats
    • A, B, and C groupers who cannot sail independently must be accompanied by a capable family member or assigned partner to participate

Thank you everyone for your understanding and flexibility adapting to the circumstances this summer. Let’s make the best of this by each doing our part, and the good times will follow.

Hey Cuttyhunkers,

Appreciating the CYC wild apricot web site.

I just now renewed my CYC membership - https://cuttyhunkyachtclub.wildapricot.org/ ... I figure it'll be great too for when I begin a family :)

Am hoping travel potential emerges too re heading to Massachusetts (from the SF Bay Area) later in the summer. :)

Thanks for your great CYC work,
Scott

Charmaine, Grant, John, David and All,

To what degree are you planning for CYC classes this summer with this kind of information:
Baker says camps, child care can reopen during phase two of reopening

"Summer camps and child care facilities can open in Massachusetts during Phase 2 of the state’s gradual reopening of the economy amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Charlie Baker said Monday"
https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/06/01/metro/baker-says-camps-childcare-can-reopen-during-phase-2-reopening-amid-coronavirus-pandemic/

I can read Boston Globe articles behind its pay wall with the Tor browser - https://www.torproject.org/download/ - if that might be helpful

Hi Scott, thanks for the article. There has been a lot of info coming out in the past few weeks and it's hard to keep track of it all. None the less taking what guidelines we had in May, the CYC Board of Governors, in consultation with other area yacht clubs and US Sailing guidance, put together a plan for CYC which addresses the Governor's plan in phase 1 and in phase 2. We put them up on our website, if you take a look I always welcome comments and feedback. https://cuttyhunkyachtclub.wildapricot.org/COVID19 The nice thing about Phase 1 for CYC is that it gives us a chance to "start slow" and see how things go, how compliant and comfortable our community is with the guidelines. If we are able to comfortably move to Phase 2, we certainly will. The other nice thing about Phase 1 is that it gives us a chance to catch up with the many many maintenance projects we seem to never get around to in a typical season, so although it will be financially less revenue for CYC in those weeks without class registrations, it really is an important opportunity for the long term health of CYC.

Stay well Scott and look forward to seeing you on island. Charmaine Gahan

Hi Charmaine, Grant, John, David, All,

Thanks and interesting,

I wonder if there are any emerging or existent Massachusetts' health department guidelines for what happens in an emergency, for example, regarding another possible testable corona-viral leading to Covid-19 symptoms' outbreak on Cuttyhunk, even, for example. Emergency plan for a so-called second wave of local coronavirus infections? (Am hypothesizing and really hoping much of this coronavirus pandemic is a "fire drill" or "in case of emergency" in the event of a very very serious global viral epidemic - or otherwise, (hypothetically), why would Massachusetts' health officials be allowing camps to open again, without a vaccine in place?). What do you all think? And could an infectious diseases' MD from Cuttyhunk circles help further develop the CYC Phase 1 / Phase 2 guidelines? (No one comes to my mind immediately, but perhaps someone will emerge). Thanks for the helpful 'CYC COVID-19 Operating Plan' - https://cuttyhunkyachtclub.wildapricot.org/COVID19 . Stay well, All, and look forward to seeing you on island.

3 Cheers,
Scott

Hello Ed, Came off ridge to get out of heat: 96 F the car said, 89F the smartphone said. Found my way to BERKELEY, and there's a nonviolent Black Lives Matter protest on MLK and Allston near Berkeley High, your kids' alma mater (Amelia's at least so far). People with signs are on both sides of the road, that I saw. Putting on my bandana mask, and may head out to join ... see you there? Have just seen 5 cop cars drive by at corner of Allston & McKinsley. How are you? EdX for courses at WUaS is looking promising this autumn! :)

Lots of Black Lives Matter signs, no speeches, no bullhorns, cars are honking as they pass in solidarity, most demonstrators are wearing novel coronavirus masks, about 73F, possibly 50-150 protesters, many kids - with signs

But Telegraph Ave near campus had absolutely no one on it, and no tie die tables, bong and pipe vendors, or artists' displaying their creations for sale.

Wonderful and thank you, Leanna and All,

I learned some new Lego language.

A realistic virtual earth for Lego ... from Lego Duplo bricks - and the creative computing projects you shared - to Lego machine learning with the WeDo 2.0 special Lego Robotics' kit (maybe with 2 smart hubs, etc) and in Google Research Football etc. - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/02/flying-and-gliding-animals-this-is-next.html  - are a lot of virtual world dots to connect, but would open up vast learning horizons (in so many countries and languages even, and re World Univ & Sch).

Am interested in building a MIT OCW-centric WUaS curriculum for Lego Robotics for WUaS College level Engineering majors, potentially taking courses on the edX platform in addition to the one MIT OCW Lego resource - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/experimental-study-group/es-293-lego-robotics-spring-2007/- as well as curriculum for something like IB high school science majors. Please keep your ears open if you learn of people creating this. (Am reading Karen Brennan's Twitter feed - https://twitter.com/karen_brennan - and re Creative Computing with Scratch programming in these regards, but am not seeing much about Lego Robotics with Scratch out of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, which is a direction WUaS is heading in for major online universities in all ~200 countries' official languages! ). Thank you!

I appreciated your coding progression slide - about the 6th to last - in these regards too. Very nice to meet you too, Alex, Brian and Leanna!

Best regards, Scott

Here's a draft letter to our current 5 prospective undergraduate students, for this autumn:

"Dear World University and School prospective students,

World University and School is delighted to let you know that WUaS will be matriculating students this autumn in August and September. Students will be taking edX courses, many derived from CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare courses, and offering these 6 majors: 1) EECS, 2) General Engineering, 3) General Science, 4) English, 5) History, 6) Business.

Please stay tuned for the next steps in how you can enroll, and the courses that you can choose from in your first year of studies at WUaS, which you will access from here - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/. Thank you for your interest in studying at World University and School for a 4 year free-to-students' Bachelor degree.

Sincerely yours, Scott GK MacLeod
President, Founder and Professor
World University and School"

A 'MacroPhD,''MajorPhD' too (and skip BPPE & WASC)?
3
Reimbursement from countries' Depts of Education, non-student sources via edX - pegged on MIT tuition level?
4
Am glad WUaS may be getting in communication with MIT legal (rather than edX legal), since this could open avenues to other questions regarding WUaS matriculating students each a Wikidata PIN # in 300 languages (7117 living languages too regarding WUaS wiki schools too?, & 7.5 billion people re UBI experiments too?), transcripts, - and re questions of money transfer mechanism.
This would be a very edX-centric set of developments for WUaS, - and I hope that the MIT LEGAL licensing clarifications re above would include questions of remuneration for WUaS.
Am hoping Shahbaz can enroll in the autumn, as example. Quality of WUaS degrees will inform reimbursement from countries' questions. Glad too that Sanjay is beginning to think in terms too of WUaS (and that Rafael Reif has his PhD from Stanford too, like Anant).

to GovindKyletitoJuanJayniYuping-CASPALarry

Email today to Varun Shukla near Mumbai, India:

All the best,
Scott

Dear Sir,

I have done Ph.D. in Religion & Doctor of Biblical Studies (D.B.S.) both from ULC, Modesto, California (unaccredited).

Yes @varunss2211 is my twitter.

I would like to take major in General Science

My mother tongue is Gujarati. I also speak English, Hindi, Marathi and Bengali.

Thank you,
Scott

Dear Larry, Govind, Kyle, Jayni, Tito, Yuping, Juan, WUaS Board,

The first step of licensing and accreditation for WUaS may be to go through the CA BPPE's "Application for Approval to Operate for an Institution Non Accredited" - https://www.bppe.ca.gov/forms_pubs/approval_nonaccredited.pdf" but I've read that the related BPPE workshops are cancelled.

Cheers,
Scott

Dear WUaS Board,

Each person in the world, all 7.5 billion people, a WUaS Wikidata PIN# (nee Wikidata Q-item #), beginning with matriculating WUaS students in all ~200 countries' official languages, and then speakers of all 7,117 known living languages as wiki teachers and learners at WUaS - since WUaS donated ourselves to Wikidata for co-development, and got the front end WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki in 2017 as a consequence? For ex. - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University .

Just asked these questions, as I registered for this Stanford Law SVDX webinar on Tu June 9, 2020 at 10 am PT - https://www.svdx.org/calendar/2020/6/9/esg-resiliency-in-a-time-of-turmoil-webinar
"Brainstorming-wise, what role could UBI experiments in all ~200 countries and their main languages, in order to distribute a single cryptocurrency (with block chain ledger), facilitate further ESG goals, (and even conceptually regarding all 7.5 billion people, re universal, to alleviate poverty)? What if a hypothetical "Mine Pi" (coded by Stanford students), or a "Bitcoin" could even be listed, by a company with its Board, on the emerging Silicon Valley long term stock exchange (which has passed one SEC hurdle, I've read) - and, for example, to address the 40 million unemployment claims in the US due to the novel coronavirus pandemic? Thank you, Scott (sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org)"

... and somehow backed by some number of ~200 countries' central banks (post Euro in 19 out of 28 countries, and post dollar as de facto international currency)? This could be because WUaS Law Schools in all ~200 countries' official languages code for this, and our WUaS Law Faculty teach this too - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Law_School

I think the Stanford Law SVDX webinar is open - and its focus is Board Members actually. All of the above would be in the WUaS Corp legal entity in all likelihood.

Still waiting to hear back about edX licensing and similar from Sanjay Sarma, MIT Professor and VP in the Office of Digital Learning, and re MIT Legal, which he said he would brief regarding MIT OCW-centric World Univ & Sch, and they - MIT Legal - would get back to WUaS.

Sincerely, Scott
