Thanks, Tim, Bitange and AoIR,

I've added this call for chapters to the beginning Kenya World University and School
(e.g. http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Kenya) here -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Kenya#Select_Call_for_Papers.2C_Chapters.2C_etc. .

Creative Commons' licensed World University and School is like Wikipedia with MIT OpenCourseWare, with planned online accrediting university degrees, and WUaS is planning a wiki school for each language in Kenya as well -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/African_languages
- and in those languages, for open people-to-people teaching and learning, and eventually via Kenyans' smartphones. Even non-literate peoples should be able to teach to and learn from their Youtube channels, for example.

Thanks again for this chapters' call!

Wishing you a relaxing holiday season as well,
Scott

Pleurotus nebrodensis: Reed College's Paideia in Jan 2015, Teaching a course about WUaS there, WUaS is planning to go the CC free route as a CC MIT OCW-centric wiki, "This Country Just Abolished College Tuition Fees"

Dear sporadic Universitians,

Happy holidays! I just called a friend and former Reed College housemate, who's also now a faculty member at Reed College, to inquire if I can stay with them to teach a course at Reed College's Paideia (which means "education, broadly construed" in Greek) - 10 days or so of open teaching at Reed every January, - by instructors, students, faculty, the wider Reed community, who want to teach about something they know or enjoy. I'm very glad for this opportunity to share about CC MIT OCW wiki WUaS at Reed, especially where Steve Jobs' matriculated, took that calligraphy class in the mid-1970s, and in Portland, Oregon, where Steve hung out for about 2 years then as well. I'm attaching again the Paideia schedule, and here below is the 2 hour course description. I hope too to video parts of one of the days, or both, for the web.

And here's the course description:

MIT OCWcentric wiki World University and School: How Reedies can wikiteach here and eventually develop WUaS as interns

Scott MacLeod [alum ‘85], 1pm-3pm

A Paideia course on how Reedies can teach and develop Creative Commons’ licensed WUaS, which is like Wikipedia with MIT OpenCourseWare, in wikisubjects that they love. This course will share in a handson manner 1) how to curate, edit, add to and develop a WUaS wiki subject page to develop further expertise in that area, 2) how to start a new WUaS wiki subject page as a creative opportunity, 3) how to begin teaching in a Google + group video Hangout and 4) possibly in 3D interactive virtual worlds, if there’s interest and time.

WUaS would like to hire eventually Reedies (students plus) to help student-develop WUaS with time.

As WUaS begins to reach out like this, please don't hesitate to let us know of other places we might talk to potentially creative students like Reedies.

Best regards,
Scott

Lots happening in my blog and on Twitter about WUaS as well -

*

Hi D,

Thanks for your ideas again below, about which Universitians have talked many times in WUaS monthly business meeting (in the manner of F/friends) and about which we've already minuted many items.

As you and I have talked about a couple of times, WUaS is planning to go the CC free route as a CC MIT OCW-centric wiki online accrediting University and School, and per, for example, this article "This Country Just Abolished College Tuition Fees" -
http://thinkprogress.org/education/2014/10/01/3574551/germany-free-college-tuition/

How to get on governments, both federal and regional education budget lines (American K-12 education is mostly free, for example), is a question and approach WUaS has to build a track record for.

Please participate in monthly business meeting on January 12th if inclined. If you'd like to read WUaS past business meeting minutes, or get a summary of this conversation, please let me know, as well.

Thanks again.

Happy holidays!

Friendly greetings,
Scott

WUaS would like to design into our online open wiki schools and universities a kind of spirit of Cuttyhunk, from the CYC song, for example ...

"So give three cheers for Cuttyhunk,
Our spirits all are free ... '
(see: http://www.cuttyhunkyachtclub.org/)

As an example of how WUaS works, here's the beginning "Sailing" wiki subject/school with some MIT OpenCourseWare courses, and which is editable as a wiki - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Sailing - for all of us to teach to and learn from.

How to generate in the information technology design {building on online educational successes already} for a kind of WUaS freedom of spirit, and flourishing, that many kids have experienced learning to sail on Cuttyhunk over the decades, which this song is about?

*

The Cuttyhunk CYC song for me expresses a kind of liminality in summer, involving play for learning how to sail, and vis-a-vis modernity ... especially for kids.

*

{Friends/Quaker school may be another good example of liminality - vis-a-vis learning - and very enjoyably so for the many kids who flourish or thrive in these milieus}.

*

Wikipedia and Google as examples of parallel-to-the-above information technologies that somehow "sail before the wind" ... ? (not necessarily socially yet ... )

Scottish economic pragmatism over identity?

Scotland voted not to secede this year ... a win for British Isles' pragmatic economics of the Westminster establishment, now scrutinized even more closely by its northern neighbor, over Scots' identity and nationhood? Perhaps ... long complex history there. Glad this was done with a vote ...

Here are the beginning Scotland World University and School  - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Scotland - along with the Scots' Gaelic World University and School - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Scottish_Gaelic - and planned as schools for other languages in Scotland ...

*

World University and School – http://worlduniversityandschool.org - has grown over the course of 2014, but WUaS’s wee craft is still only just floating, and not yet running before the wind, in full sail.

WUaS’s Music School - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University_Music_School - planned for all instruments in all languages, each a wiki subject page to begin, is exciting to develop ...

And MIT OCW-centric wiki WUaS is excited about adding A.I. machine learning, and semantic web as WUaS moves from Wikia to Wikidata/Wikibase.

WUaS plans to send in the BPPE documentation in January 2015. In seeking to become a MIT / Harvard of the Internet, WUaS’s free, C.C., online, university degrees in all 7, 106 + languages and 242 + will benefit so many people, - and is also a fascinating conversation and process to develop.

WUaS is also planning to become a significant employer worldwide, perhaps double the size of IBM at 426,000 employees, for example. Online MIT OCW-centric and free (since C.C.) universities and schools in 7, 106 + languages and 242 + is a large university.

*

I’m waiting to hear back from Stanford University Press about my actual / virtual Harbin 400 page ethnographic manuscript. I find Harbin inspiring and fascinating, emerging from the 1960s and 1970s as it does, and especially its pools-centric milieu and influences therein, and am planning further books and virtual Harbin in the context of virtual earth building as ethnographic field site.

*

I taught again the course the free, open, online "Information Technology, the Network Society and the Global University" on behalf of World University and School on Harvard's virtual island, as well as in a Google + group video Hangout this autumn, to participants in the U.S. Germany and Kenya this autumn.

*

I continue to give bagpipe lessons in video in the SF Bay Area, about half of this in Skype or Google + Hangouts, as well as take Skype bagpipe lessons from a teacher via the College of Piping in Scotland.

*

And I continue to blog daily - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/ - which I've been doing now for about 7 years, and which is a way to share ideas as a kind of conversation, and which I find inspiring in a variety of ways. Read some poems in the ‘Poetry’ label here, for example.

*

And in a variety of ways, I continue to explore thinking out of the box ... with a focus of inquiry on eliciting loving bliss neurophysiology, here, for example - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Loving_Bliss_(eliciting_this_neurophysiology) - and here - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/loving%20bliss ... I haven't yet found the 'on/off switch,' the 'cello bow stroke,' or the dial, but listening to music is a beginning.

Helping set up our families Xmas tree yesterday was ...

Fun ... kinds of family folk art in the ornaments from different times ...

There's a playdo Yale guy with a Y on his jersey, who now, with age, seems to be doing a yoga back bend of all things ...

Here are some photos ...

Our tree wasn't a blue spruce this year as it often has been, and it was much smaller than in the past ... and we had beeswax candles for the first time (ever I think) and there was a golden cloth below it from India, making the whole thing somehow golden, instead of somehow silver ... but it's a fun creativity process ever year which also involves giving gifts after it's set up ... :)

How to best incentivize the main "Research" focus - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Research -  and in all 7106+ languages and 240 + countries at MIT OCW centric WUaS? See - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - for WUaS's approximately 12 main foci.

Just added Stanford Economics' Professor Nicholas A. Bloom resources,

such as

Lee, Louise. 2014. Nicholas Bloom: Innovation Requires Delegating Authority - An economics scholar examines ways firms create flexible structures and why some do not. August 18. Stanford, CA: gsb.stanford.edu/insights/nicholas-bloom-innovation-requires-delegating-authority .

Economics

Business Management (yay, Sloan School of Management at MIT OCW here)

Innovation

Per Bloom's work, how hierarchically and how flat an organization might WUaS be in each language in terms of delegation and incentivization?

And WUaS seeks to model the development of its various online accrediting universities on unprogrammed Quaker Meetings' distributed monthly meeting process ... worldwide ... so not very hierarchical at all, yet also where clerks of these WUaS meetings play a facilitating role, including in incentivization for research.

*

How do MIT and Harvard  incentivize research in comparison, say, with Cambridge and Oxford, and further in comparison with National Tsinghua University China / 清华大学 and Shanghai Jiao Tong University / 上海交通大学 , and then in comparison, too, with Stanford and Berkeley?

Examples of greatest universities (attracting highest academic achievers) from western Europe, for similar approaches to incentivizing research, for example?

And other universities here at WUaS's wiki list of great universities - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Courses#University_course_listings ?

*

And drawing from http://academia.edu/ and https://www.researchgate.net/ and http://scholar.google.com/, for example, among many other social networking academic research web sites, how best to incentivize WUaS's main "Research" focus?

*

How could WUaS facilitate inter-lingual research innovatively with artificial learning and machine learning to incentivize research?

Instruction for graduate students to become teachers, and now online in group video conferencing, (and even with developing A.I. information technologies?) ...

In my experience, this doesn't really exist at the graduate level in a broad way at most universities around the world ... and, instead, graduate students learn by doing as graduate student instructors ...

*

In what ways could World University and School offer new opportunities for learning to teach via

Reed College's conference method extended ...

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Conference_Method_of_Teaching_and_Learning - and -

http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Humanities?

*

Could WUaS offer a series of Youtube videos focusing on teaching the initial Hum 101 courses (based on Reed's Hum 110 and focusing on the ancient Greek world, as well as on writing, reading, critical thinking and learning as conversation - i.e. conferencing)

...  in addition to the online course-long videos of actual Hum 101 lectures by faculty

... and then facilitate teaching graduate students to teach in Google + group video Hangouts (for up to 9 students) interactively and as conversation?

Reed extends the ideas and approaches learned via the conference method - beyond the required first year Hum 110 year-long course to all academic courses - to include especially STEM and science courses ... http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/STEM_Education_-_Science,_Technologies,_Engineering_and_Mathematics.

Demeter-Ma

Loved to travel home and connect with ma mère
over this past Christmas and New Year,
to share.
So nice to be together in Pennsylvania state
Thanks for your nurture, love and care -
'tis really great!

Taking off for California, and leaving ma mère,
and our communicating changes back to "distance patterns," -
not so great!
Ma mère and I connect with the oneness of being together ...
by ... of understanding
Kindness, care & love in proximity
and thoughtful communication,

Let's try, ma mère, a regular video conference per time from afar.
And I hope you can get back to sleep a little this morn,
after the car,
and your kind airport ride - thanky! And Happy New Year!
Connecting with harmony, nurturing with love -
which takes a good ear.

Yea, Eliot, I went east - sometimes I'm really way over in India -
for the holidays. But Penna and my
mother were great ...
Am grateful for the love of, and for, ma mère - great pairbondage.
Ma, thanks for your nurturance and connecting,
a kind of magic wand.

Pairbondage, John Money's word here ... and via this idea,
would love too to explore even marrying Artemis ...
for
Connecting, harmonizing, nurturing and sharing a way
Thanks for your nurturance and connecting,
day after day.

Baby steps is this regard ... A birth date with Artemis? Dear Meg
Happy Holidays! I just returned from Pittsburgh yesterday
(where I think you have some roots too), and came back to the SF Bay Area
Connecting, harmonizing, nurturing and sharing a way.

Christmas with my mother was great
but unfortunately my brother wasn't there, yet I'm glad
he was with his girlfriend who works in Thailand
but is based in Maine, and has a place 3 blocks from him in Portland.

Looking forward to music-making in the New Year
(on Monday evenings, playing kind of second piano -
mostly bass lines with thirds presently - to the main piano player who is great :),

and often with around 10 other musicians) for Scottish Country Dancers
in Berkeley in a beautiful Episcopal Church hall near the Claremont,
as well as on the Scottish small pipes with this open band, and in other ways as well.

Connecting, harmonizing, nurturing and sharing a way
Greetings to your folks. How were your Christmas and holidays?
Did you travel anywhere interesting like to India
(which I think we both visited last year at about this time, Artemis -
here's the India label in my blog -
http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/India - for your reading enjoyment :).

What did you like about India, Demeter and Artemis?
I sing about connecting ... pairbondage, love and care,

Calendula species: WUaS technical lead questions and the semantic web, artificial intelligence and IBM Watson

$

Hi Jim, Jim, Markus, Yvonne, Larry, and Steve,

Thanks for this helpful information and knowledgeable perspective on IBM Watson, Bluemix and machine learning, and the time frame in which they are developing, Jim S.

Long-ish email ahead ...

Creative Commons' licensed (CC) WUaS is like CC Wikipedia (in 288 languages presently) with CC MIT OCW (in 9 languages presently) as you may know. For an overview of WUaS's 12 main areas of focus, planned for large languages and most countries in their main languages, and over centuries, see - http://worlduniversityandschool.org .

Jim H (and Markus), in terms of a technical lead on WUaS's wiki side, and in planning for developing with artificial intelligence and machine learning as well as with the semantic web, WUaS is planning to develop in Wikidata / Wikibase / qLabel / MediaWiki / and probably Semantic Wiki, accessing Wikicommons in the process, and adding Linked Open Data anticipating machine learning developments ahead. See for example -
http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2014/08/california-tiger-salamander-wuas-in.html. In this blog post are also three main developers' Wikidata / Wikitech and Semantic Wiki email list addresses, which both of you may already be receiving. Their new CC inter-lingual Wikidata/Wikibase database for 288 Wikipedia languages is what WUaS would like to develop in first, and hopefully in the near future, moving from WUaS's current Wikia wiki with about 687 wiki pages/schools in English only
so far. (See, too -
http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.org.wikimedia.wikidata/4264).

If either of you, Jim H. or Jim S., are following the current Wikidata email list Templates' conversation, Wikidata will probably integrate Templates in the next near while. WUaS would like to develop around this SUBJECT TEMPLATE -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/SUBJECT_TEMPLATE (which is central to all the WUaS pages so far) - and then into many of 7,106 Languages' wiki WUaSes via -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/LANGUAGE_TEMPLATE - and 242 + Nation States' WUaSes via - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/NATION_STATE_TEMPLATE - each a wiki school or university. And then with a Museums' Template, etc. and connecting this with virtual worlds, as they become further interactive, 3D and movie realistic.

Markus Kroetzch, founder also of Semantic Wiki, and the other two initial core Wikidata developers (Daniel Kinzler and Denny Vredicic, as well as Lydia Pintscher) at Wikidata.de are potentially important contacts for much of this, and especially with Wikidata's volunteer communities in 288 languages, although a WUaS technical lead would hopefully begin gradually to build WUaS in Wikidata without them, - and I don't have the knowledge for this.

Jim H, in terms of a technical lead on WUaS's MIT OCW side (e.g. http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/audio-video-courses/ and http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/translated-courses/ and http://ocw.mit.edu/index.htm), and especially eventually adding Linked Open Data anticipating machine learning and A.I., I have been in communication with Yvonne Ng at MIT OCW, who offered WUaS the possibility and licensing agreement to develop in the Indonesian language, since one of WUaS's board members is a lecturer at the University of Jakarta, but WUaS didn't have the resources to follow through on this at the time.

I'm including Yvonne in this email as part of developing this conversation. Yvonne, in what ways might it be possible to add Linked Open Data at this stage to MIT OCW to anticipate machine learning? And in what ways would it be possible for WUaS to collaborate further with each of the Universities which seem to have translated MIT OCW into their languages (http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/translated-courses/), and grow this list of Universities into thousands of languages (perhaps in conjunction with Wikipedia's language communities for volunteers), as WUaS builds accrediting wiki CC MIT OCW-centric schools and universities - and for online university and high school degrees in large languages - and eventually with A.I. and machine learning and in conjunction with Wikidata/Wikibase?

Jim H, WUaS plans to send the initial state of California BPPE accreditation documentation in in January 2015, if we can raise the $5000 in fees, and accredit on MIT OCW Audio / Video courses (http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/audio-video-courses/) in English first, with students applying this autumn 2015, as if applying to MIT itself, and then matriculating online in autumn 2016. For all of this WUaS is in search of a technical lead, as well.

Further considerations in developing WUaS as a Big Data A.I. project
include:

WUaS's Bookstore / computer store planned for all 7, 106 languages and
242 countries and with AI -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Bookstore_/_Computer_Store_%28New_%26_Used%29_at_WUaS.

"You at WUaS" (including for academic registration, transcripts and matriculation, as well as a social networking site for the music school, too) - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/You_at_World_University.

"World University Music School" in All-languages / All-instruments (each a wiki subject page to begin) -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University_Music_School.

A virtual world earth as classroom (including as build-able ethnographic field site for anthropological comparison, for example) at World University and School as these become interactive with avatars, 3D and movie realistic, and for brain and linguistic research eventually ... See the main "Research" wiki area at WUaS -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Research.

Jim H., would you be available possibly please as technical lead to help guide all of these developments from Wikia hopefully to Wikidata / Wikibase and including the Semantic Web - and while anticipating developments in A.I., machine learning in all 7,106 languages (and countries)?

Could the Carnegie Library philanthropy across the United States be a model for organizing some of these universities around the world in terms of languages, where Andrew Carnegie gave the initial monies, and local governments took on the financial responsibility after this? Could MIT OCW-centric wiki WUaS provide the beginning universities in large and languages in all 242 countries and the "MIT"s in each of those languages and countries help to develop the MIT OCW in those
languages, and the governments, and education budget lines, in each of those countries contribute financially for WUaS accrediting MIT OCW-centric degrees? I hope so.

Happy New Year!

Best regards,
Scott

This will change, but think multiple year horizon for several

time. There are multiple subtleties.

However, on the bright side, free access to Watson Services on
Bluemix does include a language identification API, so Watson is
often able to detect a block of text is in some language, even
though it cannot further process it at this time without first
converting it to English.

Perhaps university partners will develop capabilities for
multi-language text understanding and in general media
understanding (videos with audio, etc.) - however, again multiple

about 5 years early from an AI helping perspective IMHO.

Subject: WUaS technical lead questions and the semantic web,
artificial intelligence and IBM Watson

Dear Jim and Jim,

Happy New Year! I'm writing to follow up on my email to you from
December 24th (from worlduniversityandschool@gmail.com).

Jim H, thanks again for answering my follow up questions during
your A.I. IBM Watson presentation in mid-December.

I again noticed on your Twitter page -
https://twitter.com/jahendler - that you might be available to be
the technical lead for C.C. WUaS, as we move to the new
inter-lingual Wikidata / Wikibase / Wikipedia database and develop
with the semantic web, artificial intelligence and IBM Watson.
Would you please consider joining the WUaS team for this?

Jim S, as IBM Director of Global Univeristy, in what ways might
IBM Watson join in this process in these early WUaS development
stages, planned for all 7,106+ languages and 242+ countries, as
WUaS seeks to become the MIT / Harvard of the Internet?

Thank you both!

Best wishes, Scott

I am traveling through early January with intermittent email at
best. I will reply if I can, but if important, ping me again early
in the new year. cheers Jim Hendler

Hi M,

Just getting back to playing the piano again ... currently "First Lessons in Bach."

I've added some of these Youtube videos of someone playing some of these pieces, such as -

"First Lessons in Bach Book 1 No.2 Minuet BWV Anh 115 G Minor (Anna Magdalena Notebook) 小步舞曲"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJLDDZMvQOY - which I can begin to play with, and -

"First Lessons in Bach Book 2 No.7 Gavotte BWV816 French Suite No.5 G Major 嘉禾舞曲"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knzKqLkdfsY - which is a little too fast for me to play with it, but nevertheless I can play one hand more slowly, and both hands quite slowly, after hearing it.

I've added a few of these only to the JS Bach wiki school at WUaS, as well  -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Johann_Sebastian_Bach - and these videos and this page are helpful. (See, too - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Piano).

I also came across John Palfrey talking in this inspiring panel - "Learning in a New Era"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfsQm7wvlnQ (watch this if you get a chance - it's a great conversation) - also touching on Sal Khan and digital dashboards, - https://www.khanacademy.org/about/blog/post/58354379257/introducing-the-learning-dashboard - for learning calculus, for example - and added a reference for this to -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Practicing_-_Playing_a_Musical_Instrument - of all places.

Although I've wondered about designing a kind of computer application for feedback at WUaS for singing in my blog before - e.g. http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2013/10/wilsons-bird-of-paradise-cicinnurus.html  and http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2013/04/bali-tiger-how-to-marry-two-databases.html - how to apply this dashboard idea for flourishing technically and happiness-wise in learning to play a musical instrument at many different levels?

A teacher might be a parallel sharer of feedback.

Back to piano playing here ...

Creative time here creating WUaS ... :)

Happy New Year ... with a happy new year's email!

Love,
Scott

Hi folks! Our schedule is officially up on the Paideia website: (http://www.reed.edu/paideia/). For those who cannot access it, I had included a pdf version at the bottom of this email. Most locations are given, aside from a few TBD which we're just waiting on a staff member to okay. We tried to work in all the edits you graciously helped with, but as per usual, if there are any mistakes we missed or changes that were not implemented, feel free to contact us at paideia2k15@reed.edu. In the meantime, we will be working on the budget which should be out by the end of the next week.

Happy New Years Eve!

Hi Hazel and Paideia Czars,

Thanks and looking forward to meeting you on or around Saturday, January 17th in Portland at Reed. Looking forward too to giving this Paideia course about MIT OCW-centric wiki WUaS on Sat. 1/17 and Sun. 1/18 in ETC 205 at Reed. I'll be staying at a/some former Reed house mate's house(s). Thank you!

Happy New Years' Eve,

Here's the Reed College description of the WUaS Paideia course:
MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School: How Reedies can wiki-teach here and eventually develop WUaS as interns

A Paideia course on how Reedies can teach and develop Creative Commons’ licensed WUaS, which is like Wikipedia with MIT OpenCourseWare, in wiki-subjects that they love. This course will share in a hands-on manner 1) how to curate, edit, add to and develop a WUaS wiki subject page to develop further expertise in that area, 2) how to start a new WUaS wiki subject page as a creative opportunity, 3) how to begin teaching in a Google + group video Hangout and 4) possibly in 3D interactive virtual worlds, if there’s interest and time.

Hi Marge, Jenny, Hearthkeeper and MMM Friends,

Thanks. I just heard back an hour ago from Reed College and its student Paideia Czars with a schedule, and will teach there about MIT OCW-centric wiki WUaS based on the announcement below on Saturday, 1/17 and Sunday, 1/18 from 1-3pm.

...
For the Multnomah Monthly Meeting Newsletter (or something like this):

"I'd like to share with Friends particularly about the free, planned undergraduate degrees at WUaS where high school F/friendly students would apply this autumn 2015 and matriculate online to accrediting WUaS in autumn 2016 (from their high school rooms most likely) taking about 40 MIT OCW-centric courses over 4 years for free and MIT degrees.

While WUaS isn't Swarthmore or Haverford or Earlham or Guildford, I'd also particularly be interested in sharing ideas is this Meeting with all of you about WUaS and Friends building on these Quaker schools experiences, as a kind of Friendly leading.

The_College_at_World_University_and_School -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/The_College_at_World_University_and_School#World_University_and_School_Links".

Jenny, Program Committee and friends, could you please begin to announce this in Meeting on First Days. And what, too, is the process for announcing this in the Meeting's newsletter and putting it on the online calendar (if there is one)?

Would all of this work? I would plan to do set up et al.

Thank you!

Friendly regards,
Scott

Hi Andy, Elizabeth, Program Committee and Ann,

Friendly-informed WUaS (with open electronically-mediated WUaS Monthly Business Meeting in the manner of Friends) and a growing number of Quaker-centric wiki subjects/schools - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Quakers_-_Religious_Society_of_Friends#World_University_and_School_Links - would like to reach out to as many parents of young Friends, who might want to matriculate at WUaS applying this autumn 2015 and matriculating online in autumn of 2016, as possible, and my experience with this at San Francisco Friends Meeting, where I'm a member, is that more parents of young Friends are around the Meeting House, for
whatever reason, on Sundays than on Fridays.

...
Thank you.

Friendly regards,
Scott
*
Hi Elizabeth and Hearthkeeper Ann,

Is there a Quaker group rate for Friendly-informed WUaS (which is also a member of Friends Association of Higher Education) at MMM (I was an attender at MMM from 1979 to 1987) compared with a non-Quaker rate? (I haven't looked at the web site yet).

Thank you,
Scott
*
Hi Kathy and All,

Thank you for the information, and sounds good. It could be great to reach out possibly to an extended SE Portland F/friendly community who may welcome CC MIT, free, wiki f/Friendly WUaS. And I'll do so as I think of ways. Thanks again.

Friendly cheers,

Please join these groups for daily and weekly digests.

Concerning this WUaS team email list, we'll generally send out business meeting emails once a month. If you'd like to receive more frequent, sporadic, WUaS emails, please reply to this email telling me so. If you could, please REPLY with UNSUBSCRIBE, or an alternative email address, if you wish NOT to receive WUaS's emails, or receive them in a different email account, - and WUaS would be very grateful.

World University and School is planning to become the MIT / Harvard / Yale / Stanford / Oxbridge of the Internet, and in all 7,106+ languages and 242+ countries, with online, Creative Commons' licensed MIT OCW-centric, university degrees in large languages.

Free, Creative Commons' licensed, online, wiki WUaS, like Wikipedia with MIT OCW, is planned for all 3,000-8,000 languages and for around 240 countries, with free degrees accrediting on C.C. MIT OpenCourseWare+, - and will help many, many people.

Thank you again for your generous donations in helping grow World University and School.

Sincerely,

Probably "Admissions" for now ... I like the holistic focus.

Here are MIT OCW's Terms of Use ... http://ocw.mit.edu/terms/ ... which WUaS will partly build on, and which I asked whether they were legal to a Privacy panel at Stanford last year, :) since MIT OCW's terms say they may share data with other OCW endeavors.

How and why I add images from NATURE and evolutionary biology to this blog

Hi Alan,

Thanks, and to you too. Looking forward to seeing you at Reed College's Paideia (education, broadly conceived) if you participate. I've named my daily blog entries with species and natural items for years now - to keep the natural in focus for me, and because the images are often beautiful and can even be somehow transporting. Sometimes there's no relation to the entry itself, sometimes a disjunction and sometimes a complementary understanding is expressed. I'm currently working through a list of endangered species in Europe and the Silician Fir was next in the list. "Abies nebrodensis" translates in Google Translate as "fir polymorphism" I found out after you emailed, with no relationship to the blog entry. This practice of naming/titling and adding images to this is enjoyable for me, and makes beautiful in color and form a range of ideas, as well. :) Thanks for asking.

Cheers,
Scott

Heading to Harbin today for the first time in this new year :) ... waiting to hear back from Stanford University Press about my actual / virtual Harbin ethnographic manuscript ... excited to explore making a virtual Harbin as ethnographic field site, as part of a 3D interactive, movie-realistic, build-able virtual earth, and as classrooms and research sites, vis-a-vis WUaS ...

How to generate the effects of Harbin's warm water pools at home besides from your bath tub {and eventually while visiting a virtual Harbin}?

Pool heating ...  {for a kind of Watsu, water shiatsu, from home?}

Marc (in French-speaking Switzerland),

So nice of you to video conference on my birthday, so that I could participate in your New Year's Eve ceremonies and at midnight near Geneva from the San Francisco Bay Area! Thank you!

Concerning pool heating, this seems germane:

a
The 3rd type of heater is my favorite by far. This heater is the Pool Heat Pump,

b
The 1st most popular heating system would be the gas pool heaters, or LP (liquid propane).

c
The 2nd type of heater would be the solar heater.

And some further ideas:

d
Take Advantage of Floor Return Lines

e
Utilize a Solar Cover
I've added these ideas to the "Watsu_-_water_shiatsu" wiki school at WUaS ...

Want to sing more, and just for learning, and eventually sharing and singing with others (and online), and with online resources?

with the following "stations" on the great free music channel station Pandora.com (may not be accessible in Europe) -

Pete Seeger channel

Pentangle channel

Steeleye Span channel

(and you can also probably find most of the lyrics from these songs online, and many of the songs by these groups on Youtube too).

{Other current favorite channels, but not for singing, but for a kinds of bliss

Nikhil Bannerjee raga

JRR Tolkien '1892-1973' - A Study Of The Maker Of Middle-earth

From my yesterday's Harbin field notes …

Came home to the source, the source of warm water coming out of the earth and filling the Harbin warm pools, came home to listening to the waters, came home to the harmony of soaking with naked co-soakers. One 3 - 4 person cuddle puddle was in the outer corner of the warm pool.

As I came to Harbin, and having watched recently some of a film on Youtube about J.R.R. Tolkien 1892 - 1973, much with interviews of his children, particularly Christopher Tolkien, who described Middle Earth as a second world of his fathers, which he so remarkably created, populated and gave life to through his writings, I thought too of Harbin as a secondary world coming in through its gate (virtual, too). “Alice in Wonderland” too is a secondary world, and in coming in to Harbin I find parallels with both Middle Earth and Wonderland.

As I walked in along the village path, after spending some of the afternoon in the Middletown Library about 4 miles away from Harbin, I was pretty happy at returning, and thought of my inner body (viz. yogini Angela Farmer, who shares something in common in her narrative skills with both Tolkien and Carroll) as being almost electrical rainbow light dancing inside my outer body, just as was walking toward and past the redwood sleeping deck and into the pool area.
