Dear Anna, (and Anirudh),

I enjoyed your Li-ion battery "ERE Seminar: Anna G. Stefanopoulou, PhD, University of Michigan — Control Engineers: The Unsung Heroes of Battery Technology" talk today in Stanford ERE - https://events.stanford.edu/events/804/80494/ . I asked about developing a realistic virtual earth for Li-ion battery control and data crowd-sourcing and much more (am thinking Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth / TensorFlow +) and potentially for all Li-ion batteries ever in situ (conceptually, and for a variety of research questions).

Here's the beginning Battery_Technologies' wiki subject at CC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School -
https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Battery_Technologies - before we've connected this to Wikidata/Wikibase in ~300 languages. Check out the MIT OCW to see how it works, and let's add some of your Li-ion resources with time.

Thank you for your great interest in the idea of a realistic virtual earth for Li-ion battery research and development as part of a SINGLE realistic virtual earth.

And thank you too for the interest you expressed in Greece World University and School in Greek -

I'm including Anirudh Allam - https://profiles.stanford.edu/anirudh-allam - in this email to introduce you to one another, since he's a Stanford Ph.D. student studying Li-ion batteries, and you might generate a fruitful conversation together. It could be interesting to make such a realistic virtual earth for Li-ion batteries available to battery and car shops in Greece and in India eventually. Perhaps we can all follow up together about developing a realistic virtual earth for Li-ion batteries.

Are you from Athens, or from elsewhere in Greece? Where are you from, if elsewhere, if I might ask?

Thank you,
Scott

Dear Prof. Aiken (Alex) and Prof. Emeritus Knuth (Don) who's email I don't have,
President Emeritus Hennessy (John) and Professor Harrington (Bob), and friends,

Thank you, Don, again for your excellent Christmas Lecture "Dancing Links -- Donald Knuth's Annual Christmas Lecture (Free Live Lecture)" - https://events.stanford.edu/events/815/81510/. (At your Xmas Lecture last year, Don, you kindly signed my actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic book's book mark here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/12/european-herring-gull-stanford-petr.html - which bookmark you may still have as well). Thank you as well.

And thank you, Alex, for your helpful introduction to Don's Christmas Lecture yesterday (as well as your excellent panel moderation at the Stanford Historical Society's "Creating World-Class Computer Science at Stanford: 60 Years of Innovation" which video you'll find here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/05/pelican-creating-world-class-computer.html - with my question which Nils Nilsson kindly replied to. In this same blog entry entitled "Pelican: "Creating World-Class Computer Science at Stanford: 60 Years of Innovation" video (I was at this), Beginnings of WUaS Corporation Mission Statement, "What is Alphabet's mission statement?", Google's Mission, World University and School's Mission statement as parent to WUaS Corporation," you'll find, Prof. Hennessy, Alphabet's Mission Statement at the time (about which I was curious).

I'm writing, Alex and Don, to inquire about your suggestions for how best to grow CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare-centric World University and School (both wings - both A) non-profit 501 c 3 World University and School, and B) for profit general stock WUaS Press / Corporation ), both planned in ~200 countries' official and main languages for online CC-4 MIT OCW WUaS degrees - Bachelor, Ph.D., law, M.D. as well as I.B. high school - and wiki schools for open teaching and learning in 7,097 living languages.

In exploring this with Stanford, I did meet two times recently with Jonathan Lai as a Stanford Graduate School of Education staff person/representative to explore developing a coding team for WUaS for both A) World University and School's platform, and B) the WUaS Press / Corp, out of the Stanford GSE, but it  doesn't appear that such a team is emerging after all. While I did begin 4 new WUaS web pages in Google Sites - e.g. https://sites.google.com/view/worlduniversityandschool/home - as a consequence of our meetings, one main strategic question remains for WUaS about how to tool for machine learning on both wings, the technical coding skills for which I don't have.

I'm attaching, for your information, WUaS's financial reports - for both wings - for this month.

As Chairs, Alex and Bob, of Stanford Computer Science and Stanford Medicine, and in WUaS seeking, too, to develop online Medical Schools with online teaching hospitals for online clinical care again in each of all ~200 countries' official / main languages (perhaps collaborating with Google's Project Baseline & Project ECHO) and possibly with the New England Journal of Medicine's Continuing Medicine Education (CME) modules as the basis for the first 2 years of online medical schools (again in ~200 countries' official languages), I wonder if you could suggest some Stanford CS graduate students / medical students with coding skills please?

I'm currently seeking a faculty position at Stanford, as World University and School seeks to develop - and also to hire potentially 30 Stanford graduate students to teach sections in group video/Google Hangouts to 100-500 online undergraduate students using MIT OCW and with the MIT faculty in video. For this World Univ & Sch World University and School has applied for a National Science Foundation Grant.

World University seeks to become the Harvard / MIT / Stanford / Oxbridge of the Internet and by accrediting in all ~200 countries' main languages for free-to-students' Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, M.D. and I.B. high school degrees. Stanford would benefit from some fraction of the $46,320 per year per student it costs for tuition to go to Stanford/Harvard/MIT/, reimbursed  to WUaS by countries' and governments' ministries of education around the world - due to the CC-4 MIT OCW licensing +. And Alphabet would benefit from the WUaS Press / Corp's planned for-profit, general stock revenue streams - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html - in all ~200 countries' official languages, and indeed in all 7,097 living languages.

How might we best follow up on some of these questions, and in particular to develop both WUaS platforms in tooling for machine learning?

Thank you, and Merry Christmas, as well!

All the best, Scott

Law Schools at World University and School (planned in main languages in them)

PS

Within Google Sites, I'd like to begin to develop with this 4 column approach - https://www.harvard.edu/ - especially for WUaS's ~12 main areas:

1 Languages (in all ~8,000+ - each a Uni or Sch with WUaS Universal Translator: https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/WUaS_Universal_Translator)

2 Countries/Nation States with map (in all ~200+ countries, each a Uni or Sch in official/main languages)

3 You at WUaS & Admissions/Registering at WUaS for free, accrediting, best STEM-centric CC OCW, online Bach., Ph.D., Law, M.D. and I.B. degrees

4 Subjects (using SUBJECT TEMPLATE to create new subjects)

5 Courses & Schools

6 Music School at WUaS (planned for all instruments, and for all languages as wiki)

7 Library Resources (all museums in all languages in a realistic virtual earth - think Google Streetview with time slider)

8 Museums (all museums in all languages in a realistic virtual earth - think Google Streetview with time slider)

9 Hardware Resource Possibilities

10 Educational Software

11 Foundation at WUaS

12 Research (best STEM CC OpenCourseWare-centric - in ~200 countries official languages, and in all 7097 living languages as wiki schools).

How best to begin the "backend" planning for applying / registering / matriculating students in all ~200 countries' official languages - and first with accreditation and via the state of California's Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education ... ie course catalog connected with matriculated students ... and all of this while tooling for machine learning.

Thank you !

Looking forward to staying in touch about fairness / equity in mapping asteroids, both re avoiding impact and mining them - and with data and STEM from all ~200 countries - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States - and universities in them, re World University and School - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - which is like Wikipedia in its 300 languages with CC-4 MIT OCW in its 5 languages - https://ocw.mit.edu - and with regard to World Univ and Sch seeking to create a realistic virtual earth / Universe at the Street View with TIME SLIDER / Maps / Earth, cellular and atomic levels. Thank you.

Since the universe is a vast place re mapping it, I'm hopeful we can engage questions of justice and law re fairness and equity questions in these early days of 'Charting the High Frontier of Space.' (Am approaching questions of social justice, fairness and equity in space from a Quaker / Friendly / nontheist f/Friends' perspective).

Best regards, Scott (scottmacleod.com)

Dear Matthew, and Beth,

Thanks for your fascinating talk yesterday - https://events.stanford.edu/events/812/81293/
With an interest in Actual-Virtual, Physical-Digital I.T. correspondence, I asked the question about how developing modeling and mapping of the space, and especially with regards to emergent and developing legal questions and law, would affect questions of war, and potentially lessening the likelihood of this.

I ask this question partly out of seeking to develop a realistic virtual universe (think Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth / TensorFlow + into, conceptually, a kind of Google Universe / Galaxy project, and also re my actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic project, which seeks to create a realistic virtual Harbin for ethnographic comparison.

I also ask this as the founder and president of World University and School, which is like Wikipedia in ~300 languages with MIT OpenCourseWare in 5 languages, and which not only seeks to create major online universities in each of all ~200 countries' official / main languages, but with online law schools for online law degrees in these countries.

Here are two relevant beginning wiki pages in this vein, and to give you an idea of how WUaS works:

Check out the MIT OCW first - eventually for credit toward online degrees - (if there is any). As a wiki, like Wikipedia articles, people can add further resources, or teach to their web cameras etc.

WUaS is currently seeking online OpenCourseWare, beyond MIT OCW's ~2,500 undergraduate and graduate courses in English, and the MIT OpenCourseWare in 4 other languages, for both Space Law and Maritime Law plus. And it's looking like some law OpenCourseWare, possibly toward degrees, may emerge out of an unfolding collaboration with affiliates of Stanford Law (and re Stanford Law CodeX).

Thanks too so much for mentioning this "Astronaut Ed Lu: Charting the High Frontier of Space" talk - https://events.stanford.edu/events/815/81586/ - which I found fascinating. It looks like Ed may be leading a mapping / modeling of Asteroids and potentially in the Google Street View ecosystem. I blogged a bit about all of this today - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/12/asteroids-astronaut-ed-lu-charting-high.html.

Will a recording of your excellent talk become available online?

Thank you and it would be great to communicate further about all of this.

All the best,
Scott

Hi Alex, Don, John, Bob, and All, (again I don't have Stanford Emeritus CS Professor Don Knuth's email),

Thanks very much for your reply that:

"Scott,

My term as chair is up in a couple of weeks, so I'm not the right person to discuss this with.  But, personally, I don't see a good possibility for interaction between Stanford CS and the World University and School --- realistically, the department just doesn't have the capacity to take on the collaboration you suggest.

Regards,

Alex"

I've blogged about some of this, and more here ...

I'd like to follow up with an email I began to you and Jennifer Widom many months ago, but didn't send at the time, and which you as active CS Professors at Stanford might have great knowledge about:

Dear Alex (and Jennifer),

...

In brief, I think developing a wiki CC MIT OpenCourseWare- (in its 5 languages+), and Yale OYC-centric, World University and School in all ~200 countries' main and official languages, each a major online university, as well as wiki schools for open teaching and learning in all 7,097 living languages, with courses for university and high school degrees in ~200 countries' languages is the coding challenge ahead (and perhaps planning for all 7.5 billion learners / teachers in the world as universitians).

CC OCW WUaS plans to interoperate soon with Wikidata / Wikibase which is Wikipedia's database for structured knowledge (and data for AI / machine learning / and machine translation) in its ~300 languages. And WUaS plans to matriculate our second undergraduate class online this autumn 2019 for free CC OpenCourseWare undergraduate degrees as we begin the accreditation process with the state of California's BPPE soon.

Part of this WUaS coding process would involve WUaS's plans to develop a WUaS universal translator in all 7,097 languages (per The Ethnologue - and conceptually building on Google Translate in its ~103 languages) - for an Academic Press at WUaS and with machine translation - and also to study all these languages, and the brain also via neuroscience, in a realistic virtual earth / universe at the cellular and atomic levels itself (think Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth / Brain / TensorFlow / Translate / brain wave headsets, and with avatar bots of species and individuals and at the cellular and atomic levels) - and together.

Another part of this process is to develop a realistic virtual earth for STEM research and as a "classroom" - conceptually again like Google Streetview/Maps/Earth with Time Slider with OpenSim/SL for group build-ability and avatars, and again in all 8k languages, and also at the cellular and atomic levels. For the cellular / molecular level and brain-research (potentially with brainwave headsets for studies, for example, from people's homes in all ~ 8k languages - per Glottolog), think Thomas Dean's Google Brain research (https://research.google.com/pubs/author189.html and https://archive.org/details/Redwood_Center_2013_04_19_Tom_Dean), and for the atomic / nano levels, think MIT's Ed Boyden's work on expansion microscopy (https://www.media.mit.edu/research/highlights/expansion-microscopy and https://twitter.com/eboyden3) - all coming together in brain modeling in this single realistic virtual earth/universe. Another aspect of this creation of a realistic virtual earth would involve adding/coding CRISPR gene editing technologies into Google Street View / Maps / Earth / Brain / the Google Cloud, for example.

Matriculating online students in all ~200 countries' main languages would be able to help code all of this with time (And I'm developing a new social science method - - that would facilitate this by individuals as well). And CC World University and School itself seeks to develop all of the above with time. (Also CC WUaS donated itself to CC Wikidata in October 2015, and received the WUaS Miiraheze MediaWiki in 2017 - e.g. https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Brain_and_Cognitive_Sciences accessible from https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects (to see how WUaS works) - and has Google Education, and is CC so will share CC-4 MIT OCW in 5 languages and build on this).

Differential equations, physics, chemistry, statistics, coding and all kinds of other neuroscience would come together in this modeling of the brain in a realistic virtual earth in the side bar of a Google Street View, as well. I also blog much about some of this e.g. here - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/03/cabbage-white-butterfly-in-realistic.html - re Harvard's George Church, for example. And check out the "brain" label too for example.

How might we best communicate further about some of this?

While it may be possible to develop aspects of A) World University and School and B) the WUaS Press / Corp in collaboration with other Stanford departments or schools in Google Sites, and organized / structured around these 2 different legal entities (A & B), I don't think there are many schools or departments at Stanford or elsewhere which would have the knowledge, skills and creativity in computing, as well as the familiarity with the Google platform, to be able to do all of the above in one single realistic virtual earth for STEM research and in all ~200 countries and in all 7,097 living languages, especially since quantum computing may be needed to scale this.

I think I'm writing to learn further from you your ideas about ways to proceed with coding World University and School. WUaS again seeks to hire enormous numbers of Stanford graduate students planning to become online faculty members potentially in all 7097 living languages, and is seeking to emerge out of or in collaboration with Stanford Medicine and Stanford Law for these online degrees in ~200 countries' official / main languages as well.  And WUaS in both of its wings seeks to become a major employer worldwide, potentially hiring as many as 2.2 million people (the size of one of the largest companies in the world) - much potentially out of Stanford. How would you suggest best proceeding with these development questions? Alex?, Don?, John?, Bob? Others?

Thank you again so much for your email, Alex.

Sincerely,

Scott

And here's an email I sent to Mark Lonergan, who is chair of the Board of Stanford Law's Silicon Valley Directors' Exchange I think, many months ago, Alex and Jennifer, which I was going to include in my email to you, which gives you some idea of the WUaS Corporation side of WUaS, (which incorporating process as a general stock company emerged from a Stanford Law CodeX meeting, thanks in part to Stanford Law Prof Roland Vogl).

Dear Mark,

Very nice to talk with you recently at Stanford Law SVDX, Mark, and thank you for your personal "good job" congratulations and hand shake - much appreciated! I'm writing to follow up re what WUaS would greatly appreciate some guidance with and potentially in collaboration with Stanford Law SVDX.

While I think you may have seen World University and School's 14 Planned WUaS Revenue Streams - http://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html - WUaS has both 1) a CC non-profit wing, as well as 2) a for-profit wing which may become an IPO (or even possibly ~200 IPOs in each countries' main and official languages and their nation states' stock markets). See again the 10 for-profit revenue streams above, planned in all 200 countries' main languages (as well as in 7,097 living languages, each a potential market). WUaS is like Wikipedia in 300 languages with CC MIT OCW in 5 languages and CC Yale OYC, and seeks to become the CC OCW Stanfords/Harvards/MITs of the internet in all ~200 countries' main and official languages, and wiki schools in all languages.

...

In broad strokes,
CC OCW WUaS plans to emerge soon IT-wise out of CC Wikidata / Wikibase which is Wikipedia's database for structured knowledge (and data for AI / machine learning / and machine translation) in its 300 languages - and potentially on both WUaS's 1) non-profit CC-4 MIT OCW-centric side, as well as on WUaS's 2) CC-0 + for-profit general stock side (engaging CC-0 Wikisource for WUaS's online bookstore planned in all 8k languages, where Creative Commons' licensed CC-4 is noncommercial and CC-0 is commercial). And WUaS plans to matriculate our second prospective undergraduate students online this autumn 2019 for a free CC OpenCourseWare undergraduate degree (MIT OCW-centric).

...

On the business side, WUaS will likely/possibly emerge out of Intuit / Quickbooks / TurboTax with their experience in multiple languages / tax systems - and possibly out of their hand coded Multi-store too. With online law schools in all ~200 countries' main languages - and law and CS students - WUaS will potentially be able to help organize bitcoin and the blockchain.

...

There's an employment opportunity for prospective SVDX board members in all 200 countries' main languages here - per your informative paper on average Board member compensation ($289,000?) for the SV 150 top companies - if WUaS can get going financially. (Yours was the first SVDX talk I attended - thank you!)

If Stanford Law's SVDX were to orchestrate all of this - with the enormous great business knowledge and experience that all of you have together - SVDX would potentially benefit tremendously as well. And if SVDX were orchestrating all of this, perhaps CalSTRS (Aeisha Matagni was a great recent panelist) would be interested in WUaS as a startup investment on WUaS's online for-profit side (in all 7,097 living languages).  Doing so would not only benefit Stanford Law SVDX in so many ways, it would also be a real feather - success story - in SVDX's cap.

With Stanford Law's SVDX as an orchestrator, and your guidance especially, could WUaS explore seeking CC OpenCourseWare re Stanford Law and Medicine (since MIT doesn't have a law or med school and hence there's no MIT OpenCourseWare? WUaS will seek reimbursement along the lines of the upcoming Yale tuition of $51,400 per student per year (since Yale OYC is Creative Commons' licensed too) from each of all ~200 countries (again per student per year), probably based on GDP - and seeks to help the most disadvantaged countries - and with an online teaching hospital (with many implications for WUaS's for profit side and technological innovation here) too.

(Would it be possible too, please, to reach out to SVDX diverse Board members, and possibly Gordon Yamate, and their networks, for example, to become heads/CEOs of their WUaS universities/companies in their main languages?)

How might we best communicate further about some of this?

Thank you,
Scott

Hi Alexa,

Thanks so much to you, Alexa, Laura P and your whole team for a great first virtual ScratchEd MeetUp - it was fun and dynamic. To my questions below, Laura P wrote:

“Scott, I believe you have Alexa's email address, shoot her an email and we'll coordinate!”

Laura P - could we create an UnHangout next week here with these people and out of this UnHangout possibly please? ... and with Lego WeDo 2 / Scratch explorations, possibly as breakout session?

How to realize an online weekly play group / sandbox for Lego robotics and Scratch explorations in a 10 person hangout? :)

How can we connect with our breakout groups later?

Pau - would / might you have any interest in facilitating a WeDo2 / Scratch hangout HERE next Saturday, same time, same place?

Next Saturday, Alexa and Pau - same time same 'place' - c'est possible from an UnHangout perspective?

Play group weekly too ? :) Thank you Pau and SeanJustice and All

Stanford ERE - Control Engineers: The Unsung Heroes of Battery Technology

Hi Simona, Anna, Maartje, Anirudh, and Richard,

I'm writing to say thank you, Simona, for your fascinating "Energy Seminar: Simona Onori: Advancing Batteries through Physics-based Control: An Automotive Perspective" talk in the Nvidia auditorium on Nov 26, 2018 - https://events.stanford.edu/events/800/80036/ ... I came up to ask you afterward about your thoughts about coding a realistic virtual earth for Lithium-Ion battery research, and batteries in situ themselves, but was only able to give you my CC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School card, because the question line was so long.

I've asked Anna after her great Sanford ERE talk - https://events.stanford.edu/events/804/80494/ - (which you introduced), and Anirudh as well, about this. And I wonder if your interest in modeling energy in carbonate rock, Maartje, could also inform coding a realistic virtual earth for energy resource engineering. I'm interested in an ongoing way in coding Lego robotics to begin with into a realistic virtual earth for energy questions ... and even re modeling at the cellular and the atomic levels the familiar batteries that might be used in Lego robotics into a realistic virtual earth for engineering questions (see the last Tweet in this blog post - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/12/tunguska-russia-asteroid-1908.html as well as https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/12/rose-ringed-parakeet-stanford-annual.html). For a realistic virtual earth again, I'm thinking in terms of the Google platform and conceptually re Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth / TensorFlow etc. and which is group build-able by many. And it seems that re the recent MIT Symposium on Robotic Systems and Blockchain, in both blog posts above, that coding this in a SINGLE realistic virtual earth has much much merit as well. I think the Rumsey map center at Stanford may be getting into mapping asteroids re realistic virtual universe questions as well (https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/12/asteroids-astronaut-ed-lu-charting-high.html).

Simona, since you're a Stanford ERE professor, in what ways might you suggest exploring how such an initiative could emerge further out of Stanford ERE, and perhaps in collaboration with the University of Michigan, Anna, and even for graduate student Ph.D. projects? For commercial value, it could be great if such a realistic virtual earth could become usable by car and battery shops all over India, Greece, Italy and the Netherlands, both for Li-Ion research for control etc, but also for crowd-sourcing data, and extending battery life in car repair situations.  (It seems like MIT's Richard Braatz could be of help here as well - and as a possible collaborator, since he spoke recently fascinatingly about Li-Ion batteries at Stanford ERE, - and MIT President Rafael Reif has a Stanford Ph.D. And Stanford President & Professor Emeritus/ Alphabet chair John Hennessy, who's a material scientist, might also be of help). If helpful, I'd be willing to reach out to both of these professors / presidents. I'm already a bit in touch with MIT Prof. Richard Braatz - https://events.stanford.edu/events/800/80002/ - with regard to realistic virtual earth questions and Li-Ion batteries.

Simona, how might you suggest developing such a realistic virtual earth for energy resources engineering questions? Anna was very enthusiastic about this idea when I asked about this at her talk.
Thank you again for your great talks, and looking forward to communicating further about this.

Best, Scott

[Medianthro] Ethnography and big data

Hi Nina and All,

RE your
"Does anyone know of interesting projects/publications that integrate
ethnography with big data? Not using ethnography to complement big data (or
vice versa), but projects that seek to integrate both approaches in the
analysis. I'm working on a project that tries to do this particularly in
relation to irregularised migration, but I would also appreciate
inspiration from other areas."

What are 2 or 3 main questions you're asking in your research (again), Nina?

I'm thinking how to focus this new method I'm calling ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - in terms of each of all ~200 countries/nation states/main languages in the making of a realistic virtual earth (think Google Street View+) re big data ... with avatar bots ... and potentially with a Universal Basic Income for all 7.5 billion people, conceptually.

Am hoping we can come into conversation further about this.

You're welcome!

It was also a pleasure to talk with Monica VanBladel (https://dlcl.stanford.edu/people/monica-vanbladel-0) yesterday, and about Mexico World University and School - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Mexico (not yet in Spanish), and planned as one of WUaS's first online Universities for degrees, outside of accrediting online degrees in the US (where Spanish and Chinese are some of WUaS's pilot languages, - and probably in Mexico / Spain and Hong Kong / China first, building on the CC-4 MIT OCW in these languages - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/translated-courses/ ).

Could you please share all of this with Monica as well?

Re your last question in the round table, I wonder how engaging your question with Google Poly within a Google/Stanford/Alphabet platform might problematize these issues further - and in Latin American countries online. And with regard to your edifying talk about meat, I wonder how, for online medical degrees, even online tele-robotic surgery will inform questions of actual-virtual physical-digital meat (e.g. virtual lab mice in Stanford medicine in Google Poly for surgery with actual lab mice on a Navy ship in the north Pacific for developing such tele-robotic surgery with machine learning). I think your analysis would inform such questions further in interesting ways and re transcultural materialism (History and Raw Material in Muñecas - https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/08905762.2018.1485282 - https://read.dukeupress.edu/novel/article-abstract/51/1/101/134684/A-Tale-of-Two-Materialisms?redirectedFrom=fulltext)

Hector, World Univ & Sch seeks to become the Stanford - Harvard - MIT - Oxbridge - Complutense of the internet and in each of all ~200 countries' official / main languages, and for online free-to-students' Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, M.D. and I.B. high school MIT OCW-centric degrees.

Perhaps we could all talk further together about online World Univ & Sch universities in the 33 Latin American and Caribbean countries' main / official languages at some point - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States. World Univ & Sch seeks to create a very large number of faculty positions in each of these, beginning with graduate student instructors.

Thanks again for the excellent and edifying Harvard-Stanford conference. I hope you find the Richard Rorty interview interesting  - https://youtu.be/Fx9Pu2ZYcKQ - and re his observation in 2006 that literary criticism went too far.

Thank you.

With best regards, Scott

D
[Wikimedia-l] Wikipedia in an abstract language

September 29th, 2018
Semantic Web languages allow to express ontologies and knowledge bases in a
way meant to be particularly amenable to the Web. Ontologies formalize the
shared understanding of a domain. But the most expressive and widespread
languages that we know of are human natural languages, and the largest
knowledge base we have is the wealth of text written in human languages.

We looks for a path to bridge the gap between knowledge representation
languages such as OWL and human natural languages such as English. We
propose a project to simultaneously expose that gap, allow to collaborate
on closing it, make progress widely visible, and is highly attractive and
valuable in its own right: a Wikipedia written in an abstract language to
be rendered into any natural language on request. This would make current
Wikipedia editors about 100x more productive, and increase the content of
Wikipedia by 10x. For billions of users this will unlock knowledge they
currently do not have access to.

My first talk on this topic will be on October 10, 2018, 16:45-17:00, at
the Asilomar in Monterey, CA during the Blue Sky track of ISWC. My second,
longer talk on the topic will be at the DL workshop in Tempe, AZ, October
27-29. Comments are very welcome as I prepare the slides and the talk.

December 10th, 2018

Hi Ariel,

thanks for the very thoughtful question. I got asked this question every
time I present it, and during the Blue Sky presentation this question - or
a variation of it - was asked three times. It really is on top of people's
mind!

My answer is half inconsistent, I am afraid, because I have by now come up
with three ways to answer this question, and they contradict each other. So
I am glad to hear more thoughts on it.

Here are the three answers:

1) I think that language is a pretty bad delimiter to keep points of view
apart. Yes, sure, it allows the Japanese Wikipedia to offer a different
description of World War 2 than the Korean Wikipedia has, but I am not sure
that is entirely a good thing. We don't have two Wikipedias for Portugal
and Brazil, they have to agree and what they say, but we have Wikipedias in
Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian, Serbocroatian... and I am not sure that the
outcome of this decision is fully positive. So, my main point is, if we
really want to capture cultural differences, let's align the borders of the
editions of Wikipedia along these cultures. But aligning the cultural
borders solely along language borders is badly imperfect.

2) But in general, I think that accepting that different Wikipedias should
have different contents are incompatible with our NPOV policy. Now we could
have a lengthy discussion whether NPOV is a good policy or not. But in
general, I'd really prefer to have all points of views being presented with
their due weight in all languages, instead of using languages to represent
a point of view only in one language, and have a different point of view in
another language. I would love to be able to read both the Japanese and the
Korean point of view on contentious issues between these two countries - as
I can in Serbian and Croatian, because I can read both languages just fine
- but I think it is rather problematic that language barriers dictate the
point of view I have access to. In fact, in many cases, we can see in the
English speaking Wikipedia how the very same editors from the say Croatian
and Serbian Wikipedia come to a more balanced result in the English
Wikipedia, which they wouldn't accept in their 'home' Wikipedias. Funny,
isn't it?

3) More importantly, and entirely disagreeing with #1 and #2, is that the
Abstract Wikipedia never suggests to replace the current language editions,
but to fill up the gaps in any given language edition. So, if the Croatian
Wikipedia really wants to go into details on Croatian folk songs and
Croatian food items, they should be totally able to do so without having to
feel bad that they might be missing basic information about South American
countries and Australian Aboriginal cultures. In fact, what I hope is that
each language edition can choose to display the renderings from the
Abstract Wikipedia for most articles, and then they can concentrate on
creating in-depth articles on the topics they really care about - local
cities, cultures, traditions. I remember in the beginning when working on
the Croatian Wikipedia - it feels weird to work on the article about a
local dish if you're still missing articles on all chemical elements. How
can I write an article about the town my mom lives in (pop. 148) if there
is no article yet about the country of Mexico? The abstract Wikipedia has
the ability to lessen that pressure and allow the local communities to
focus on their interests more.

I assume that the solution that combines the three answers is that we will
display the local articles whenever available, but be able to take a look
at the article rendered from the abstract version (for contrast and
comparison and maintenance). And if there is no local article, we would
treat the article rendered from the abstract version like a proper article.

So, as said, the actual answer to your question is still work in progress,
but I wanted to write down a first sketch towards the answer. I am also
very happy to hear other people thoughts on this question. But all in all I
think that going toward an Abstract Wikipedia will improve along all the
dimensions discussed. But I am sure I missed important dimensions on this
question.

Cheers,
Denny

Thanks, Ariel, Denny, and Wikimedians,

Re your observations, I wonder, conceptually, if the end-to-end Translation approach of Google Translate would render what you suggest, Ariel (e.g. someone could translate an article from a language Wikipedia and this would produce a single translation i.e. "one article for all
audiences"), whereas developing, conceptually, a different translator approach - i.e. from Language A to Language B - conceptually, and perhaps building such a hypothetical translator from Wikidata's Lexicographical project, could yield  "information depending on their role in the communities of the speakers of a
given language" (leaving aside the Wikimedia's ContentTranslation project at this stage).

And I wonder  re 1), Denny and Ariel, beyond cultural contexts / differences / borders, and your Portugal and Brazil example, whether one might add in a country approach as well. Re 2 & 3) I wonder what role interpretation plays in writing a NPOV article in any given language, and vis-a-vis Abstract Wikipedia too, and how these NPOV interpretations offer benefits in their great diversity (in terms of Wikipedia's goal: "to build a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge"), and the benefits of "displaying the local articles whenever available" for inter-lingual knowledge-generation.

Thanks for the very thoughtful questions and responses.

Cheers, Scott

Hi Pamela, Bill and NtFs,

I found this article by David McAllester -  https://www.jstor.org/stable/3398792 - which it seems could even open a way to Navajo belief through experiencing / listening to Navajo music, and thus entering into a kind of Navajo world view / way of seeing things. I'm wondering too, given the time David was active as a Wesleyan Anthropologist and Ethnomusicologist (and also a Friend), and a photo I saw of him, whether he was a bit of a hippy as well. I'd suspect you'd have some insight into this Bill. Hippies found their way into various cultures quite remarkably, and somehow from the inside, in a way akin to Anthropologists, but perhaps unique to what emerged in the 1960s and '70s.

Am hoping we can study this and gain access to a variety of Native Americans' beliefs by learning about Native Americans, for example, via https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Native_Americans and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Native_American_Languages ... and even in a realistic virtual earth into which we could convert film into avatar bots / an interactive 3D virtual world ... and interact with Native Americans / talk with them (am thinking Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth / Translate and with avatar bots) ... share music with these realistic Native American avatar bots / share beliefs with them ... and in a brand new form of anthropology / history / and even Friendly / Quakerly / NtF engagement with different peoples.

While I created some Tweets about this here too -

Am hoping similarly we can share in the Harbin Hot Springs' experience in #RealisticVirtualHarbin, soak in the warm pool, Do Watsu https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Watsu_-_water_shiatsu - & into which#RealisticVirtualEarth we could convert #Filmto3D avatar bots to hang out in pool area/talk/share & make music together:)

https://twitter.com/HarbinBook/status/1072712325323345920 (Harbin Hot Springs is my actual-virtual ethnographic field site).

I'd be interested in adding David McAllester's research, books and music / ethnomusicology as a resource to WUaS as well, or welcoming others  to wiki-add this, perhaps graduate student instructors at WUaS, for example.

Interesting Finnish interview about an Universal Basic Income here - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1072561078662504448 - which I'm continuing to explore in a variety of blog posts including - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/12/earth-lithium-ion-battery-innovation.html - and which would have helped Native Americans much if they had had this in American history - and perhaps many around the world today even. The Finnish interview also mentions in passing possibly including mental health services in such Universal Basic Income projects (of which there are quite a few - called experiments - and possibly echoing Gandhi's Experiments with Truth), and which is something I'd be interested in facilitating as well re World University and School ... and possibly with an UBI too (with much more information about this in recent blog posts).

Thanks for bringing up Native American beliefs and David McAllester's research, Pamela and Bill. I'm an appreciator of the excellence of Wesleyan's academics and its ethnomusicology program in particular ... and both of which are something I'd like to facilitate in a friendly way at WUaS as well - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Ethnomusicology.

Friendly cheers, Scott

Hi NtFs,

Wow, - interesting.

Thanks so much for your NtF "plain speech," Anita ... and Pamela - and your affirmation of morality, Anita. (I hear echoes in your email of Nt-Friend / ntf George L. Alexander MD, psychiatrist and Lacanian psychoanalyst, and family friend, who passed away a few years ago, while living at Kendall-Crosslands; he didn't publish much, but here's an article of his from Friends' Journal -http://www.friendsjournal.org/wp-content/uploads/emember/downloads/2008/HC12-51063.pdf - on the separation of Church and State).

Brian - thanks for your visions of Native American thinking ... how both we and Native Americans experienced and lived this are questions perhaps both Friends and Anthropologists look at socioculturally ... and with ongoing thinking about modes of representation.

Bill - thanks for your great email re https://alchetron.com/David-P-McAllester and https://i1.wp.com/soundmattersthesemblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/mcallester-2005.jpg?ssl=1 ... Am blogging a bit about this - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/12/arizona-painted-desert-navajo-belief.html - and just added the 'Hippy' label to this post. More with time about your fascinating email. :)

Re questions of mental health and NtF informed World University and School, am adding below this recent G+ posting which emerges from an email to a Quaker MD in SFFM ... https://plus.google.com/u/4/+MeetingWorldUniversityFriends/posts/B1Mu9fvmWE2 ... (and which is also here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/12/rosy-faced-lovebird-friendly-informed.html).

Zach, "Teachings from the American Earth: Indian Religion and Philosophy" looks really great - thanks.

Am hoping we could, when we'd like, jump out of these email conversations, and into a realistic virtual earth, simply by clicking on a link, something like this ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ and go to many of these 'places' we've explored in this email, including Native American spaces (self-represented) and your, Anita:

but for myself, I find that religious worship is completely unnecessary.  I find other ways of nurturing my spirit:  nature, art, beauty, color, solitude, reading, photography.

I have also let go of religious beliefs.  It has taken a long time--many, many years.  I moved from trying to believe in a God, to accepting that I did not believe in a God, to acknowledging I was (am) an atheist, to trying to understand the meaning of spirituality, to not thinking about such things any more.  Morality, however, is important to me.

(and am hoping to facilitate this as well coding-wise re World University and School's wiki pages - with books and music for understanding and learning about Native American beliefs, as well as a realistic virtual earth for 'time travel' vis-a-vis 'culture travel' - again thinking Google Street View with TIME SLIDER for anthropology and history, and literally everything actually - i.e. brain and dream cognitive science).

Friendly cheers,
Scott

I have a little experience, not direct, with religious beliefs amongst native Americans. It comes from my experiences when I was in college.

I took an anthropology course from David McAllester, who was a professor at Wesleyan University where I was an undergraduate. David's interest was music, and he did research with the Navajo people in particular, traveling every summer to the Southwest to record music and work with the people there. A good deal of the music he recorded was religious in nature, and in particular involved Navajo healing ceremonies, which used a lot of music. There was not a lot of "belief" involved, as I recall, but it was concentrating on healing people who needed it.

We became very close with David and we would visit him and his wife almost every summer when we travelled from Texas to visit our family in Vermont. He was a very dear friend (and Friend!).

Thanks to John and Brian for their wonderful responses to my post. Sorry it's been so long in responding.  I can only handle so much spiritual/religious conversation before I have to shut down from the overdose of negativity I feel when talking about religious beliefs. I wonder how many others have looked at native American religious beliefs? They are obviously not all exactly the same but they seem to mostly have the same underlying thought that worship (as Christians and former Christians know it) is completely unnecessary. Does anyone else see this?

Hi M,

Amazing photo, M, of the Painted Dessert (Arizona) -

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4c/Another_White_Pocket_Sunset.jpg
- which I've added to this blog post today (an interesting one, I
think) - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/12/arizona-painted-desert-navajo-belief.html
...

Had to tether my MacBook Air lap computer top to my smartphone cell phone today, since the wi-fi thru the satellite dish on roof seemed to go off, while I was in the middle of watching a Stanford materials' science talk online - https://events.stanford.edu/events/815/81569/ - my first time attending an online Stanford talk. Hadn't used tethering on smart phone since Cuttyhunk, and again it worked well, so now I've confirmed having a back up internet connection here in Canyon, - and the wi-fi on dish has now started working again. Good to have a back up computer in my smartphone, and a back up internet connection here in Canyon now confirmed, and for traveling world-wide even (and to know how to use these - fairly easy, but it's helpful to have known my phone has this capability, and to have used it on Cuttyhunk).

Car-maintenance scheduled on Monday ... will have put second complete pint of oil in today ... a first in the 5k scheduling. Would be interested in getting a Toyota Proace -

  https://youtu.be/7FD0QgtAJ7k -
at some point, but they aren't available in the US yet, while they are available in the British Isles. It can sleep four!, can have 6 seats in it, and if it's a hybrid, would get more than 40 mpg too ... good
for having a family as well ... and it's pretty small for getting around in a city. ... cool. It would also de facto add a 3rd room to my little house-let ... kind of amazing.

Just completed the World Univ & Sch Monthly Business Meeting Minutes:

Now to send them out, work on my upcoming book, and maybe head to Stanford to hear Chanticleer. Seeking to connect for family in an ongoing way ...

How's your week going? Talk with you soon.

One fun thing about blogging is adding the photos from the natural world. :)

You can see the 2nd upper 'kids' bed better in this video -

Hi M,

Chanticleer tickets cost $64 at Stanford Memorial Church - ouch & way out of my range, and I tend to go to only free events here (and pay for parking often) ... and can listen to a Chanticleer Christmas here - https://youtu.be/ohH62CSC574 ...  and ...  https://youtu.be/5bEqVrCDXwI :)

And here's

Merry Christmas from The Renaissance

But sometimes I think I'm of the wrong (gentile) faith, given all the unethical 'hits' of recent years ... hoping an "ecology" of life (including re the internet), which I touch on here - http://www.scottmacleod.com/yoganotations.html - but which I've written to you about in the past, and in other places, takes care of such egregious unethical uncaring behavior. (May bring ethics' inquiries into a number of recent 'attacks' in a few years ... and / or write about these).

Glad to have connected with Jonathan Evans, who's on the Board of Haverford College, as well as Jan Egeland, a Norwegian I heard speak at Stanford, who's involved in UN relief work and similar on a large scale (e.g. his talk together with a Syrian MD or two, was about war-torn Syria as things were quieting down there war-wise). The ethics of people in different nation states seems comparable, and these questions seem interesting when one compares the idea of the "nation state" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nation_state) with the idea of a "country," where 206 competed in the Olympics in Brazil recently. I see "nation statehood" as a kind of developing ethical goal even - perhaps relating to an emergent culture in any given country connected with the idea of 'nation' - to strive for in possibly less ethical "country" states. And WUaS might be able to help by developing ethical law schools in each of all ~200 countries' official / main languages - and faculty to teach this (and many careers) - all under one big WUaS umbrella. History makes the questions of ethics very complicated in both regards - i.e. "nation state" and "country" - but at least such questions and history are something people are talking about more and more in recent decades, and with more and more sophistication. And I can take a Friendly / Quaker / UU / Yogic / NtF,  sympathies-with-Hinduism approach in India's seeming tolerance and diversity, and multiplicity of languages etc, - and also a USA progressive / constitutional / UN approach to such questions too.

What if we live centuries longer, with good health, and can see 10 generations of our offspring alive - i.e. your great great great great great great great great great great grandchildren? Hmmm ... could / would be great :)

Seeking a friend for family continues ...

How's your week going? And how are you? (On with book writing ... ) Hope you're week is going well.

L, S

Hi M,

Why don't such 'attackers''get it' - that is understand? - before they attack?

I guess this is an educational opportunity (a f/Friendly one in my case ) ... as well as possibly a psychiatric one - an opportunity for "attackers" to see psychiatrists and psychotherapists ... to get psychoanalyzed (and perhaps WUaS will be able to facilitate this online as well) ...

Here's one view of the "The 10 Most (and 10 Least) Corrupt Countries in the World" re unethical countries re nation states' idea - https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2010/10/the-10-most-and-10-least-corrupt-countries-in-the-world/65222/ ...

A psychiatrist, and a psychoanalyst (building on Lacanian psychoanalysis, John Money and with machine learning avatar bots) for every offender in the world ?

Love, Scott

P.S.
Here's what I just sent to Jonathan Evans (I appreciate his Quakerly Friendliness) earlier today, and below is his email which precedes this:

Thanks, Jonathan,

Hi M,

And the email I had sent to Jonathan which precedes the above, and his request to unsubscribe from the WUaS email list is here:

Hi Jonathan,

Will do.

Please keep in mind that Friendly-informed World University and School, in accrediting with CA's BPPE and then WASC senior, seeks to offer online MIT OpenCourseWare-centric Ph.D., Law, M.D. and I.B. high school degrees (https://ocw.mit.edu/index.htm) in English (and many countries/languages), and that since MIT doesn't have a law school or a medical school, WUaS is seeking to emerge from Stanford-informed OpenCourseWare or similar.

All of this could become further educational opportunities for high achieving, Friendly Haverford graduates, especially since the CC-4 licensing of MIT OCW means that WUaS will be free-to-students.

Nice to have met you at Haverford at the FAHE meeting in 2014.

Friendly regards, Scott

Hi M,

These 11 most reputable countries (which includes Japan) all seem to have a Christian background, where Japan has something of a Buddhist background ... https://www.forbes.com/sites/vickyvalet/2018/06/21/the-worlds-most-reputable-countries-2018/ ... but this is partly business related ...

Hi M,

Someone in Canyon is getting my Harbin book (2016) in paper (for $65) I think ... I have only one copy on hand ... and just ordered 2 new ones, one of which is for Dick who asked for a copy last June, which I may give him next June.

Am hopeful after meeting a partner and starting a family to teach a course on my "Naked Harbin Ethnography: Hippies, Warm Pools, Counterculture, Clothing-Optionality & Virtual Harbin" (2016) Harbin book - with actual field work with a class potentially of Stanford students - reading it together with Tom Boellstorff's "Coming of Age in Second Life: An Anthropologist Explores the Virtually Human" ... and beginning too to create a realistic virtual Harbin via ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy. Curiously, not many anthropologists or people have engaged this big idea yet.

Was glad that Dutch Yoga teacher Victor van Kooten (who teaches with Angela Farmer) mentioned recently that his first grade teacher in the Netherlands was a woman called Mrs Annie Boon ... (William Penn's mother was Dutch, as I understand this, for example).

Here's the Jordans Quaker Meeting House in Jordans, Buckinghamshire, England in video -

https://youtu.be/Z4pfFJKKhyA ... William Penn was from around here and was buried near here. It was built in 1688 (and Quakers date from about 1652) ... and here's their web site - http://www.jordansquakercentre.org/.

And in Google Street View, you can see that it's a beautiful rural area, and pretty close to London too -

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Jordans+Quaker+Centre/@51.6101239,-0.594094,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x6f7f7e8ec351aa8!8m2!3d51.6101239!4d-0.594094 - in Jordans, Buckinghamshire - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jordans,_Buckinghamshire.

About William Penn ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Penn ... Angela Farmer interestingly comes from Buckinghamshire ... but "the future is a head" as George Alexander used to quip ... (and Quakers can have a focus on the path ... whereas Harbin, which burned down dramatically in Sept 2015, has a focus on the "Now" and also on 'Living the Future,' as in the title of this document and a kind of Harbin vision - http://www.harbin.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Harbin_40th_anniversary.pdf - and Harbin should open again in 2019). "Heart Consciousness Church 1975-2015: 40 Years of Living the Future" - http://www.harbin.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Harbin_40th_anniversary.pdf - is one of the most inspiring Harbin texts I know of. And Angela teaches a retreat at Harbin Hot Springs regularly as well. ... many disparate 'spiritual' threads here ... re Dutch background, am curious where Dutch Reformed Church - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_Reformed_Church - re Calvinism - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Calvinism - and related spiritual memes have all floated around in the background, along with other similar traditions and religious ideas).

Just recalled a SF City Innovate get together in SF this evening, which Jay Nath of SF City Innovate, whom I met in a Stanford Law CodeX meeting, and with Cornell engineering degree (and American but with roots in India) ... hoping to reach out to them re a possible coding team for WUaS - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/12/painted-turtle-minutes-for-world-univ.html - so heading out soon.

On with book writing. Am settling in on this title "Winding Road Rainbow: Harbin, Wandering & the Poetry of Loving Bliss" for my next book, have the cover photo, and with this book, I'll 'print' NEWLY from Amazon's subsidiary Kindle Direct Publishing, since they're closing down CreateSpace (with which I 'printed' my last two books), and I just today made the transition to KDP. All of these are published under the IMPRINT of the Academic Press at World University and School - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html - thus allowing me to create a brand new academic press, planned with machine translation in all 7,097 living languages. And I'll get the ISBN/copyright from the main ISBN place, and not get the Amazon/KDP ISBN (once again) ... and should have my 3rd book coming soon in the mail.

How was your day, M? Bye for now.

L,
Scott

Hi M,

Jay Nath, head of SF City Innovate, and who gave a presentation in Stanford Law CodeX a few weeks ago remotely invited me to this Miracle on Mission Street City Innovation party on Sunday, and although I was a bit nervous about going, - it turned out pretty well. Many people with background from India possibly helped ... re culturally settling away from a kind of potential hostility in the air/interactions ... At 22nd and Mission - heart of a very messy city - a city which is a mess? :) - it was on the third floor above a grungy bank on the ground floor, and in a kind of grungy big almost warehouse room - but which had many large wall-size windows, and a tremendously large porch (echoes of a roof-top in India for me) ... Glad to have met Tim O'Reilly (https://twitter.com/timoreilly?lang=en) and Jennifer Pahlka (https://twitter.com/pahlkadot?lang=en) - I think they're parents together - who are two high-achieving very progressive information technology folks who have been around the Bay Area for a long time, and a variety of other people. World Univ & Sch ripples out a bit further.

Looks like E.L. here will get a copy of my "Naked Harbin Ethnography" ... she's a bit of an old hippy here in Canyon ... with its many many entanglements that sometimes are a bit scary and out of which I stay pretty free and independent ... She invited me to a 11-2 kind of hippy get together on Saturday in her meditation room ... which made me a bit nervous, although I said I could go this Saturday, but then she texted it was the 12/22, and I texted I couldn't make that ... so it looks like I'll walk my NEH book over to her on the 19th or 20th, deep in Canyon ... in an interesting house ... which I haven't yet been to. Might be first sale of the year for it :) ... and there can be a conversation and culture that emerges around exchanges ... (which seem to be disappearing per se in the large chains with even automatic check-outs).

A description for "Winding Road Rainbow" - which I've already entered into the Kindle Direct Publishing web site, as well as the ISBN.org Bowkers Myidentifiers' ISBN site ... all part of the independent-publishing process, and significant too in beginning a new academic press ... ISBN cost $125 this year, up from $100, I think, for each of my previous two books:

Winding Road Rainbow:

Harbin, Wandering & the Poetry of Loving Bliss

From “Winding Road … and something like poetry came to me” (https://twitter.com/scottmacleod/status/1064335267413159936) to “The Poetry Commune at Berkeley” (https://twitter.com/scottmacleod/status/1064591154287534080)  “Winding Road Rainbow: Harbin, Wandering & the Poetry of Loving Bliss” (https://twitter.com/WUaSPress/status/1070737482130440192  and https://twitter.com/HarbinBook/status/1064711542367674368) revisits wonderfully the traveling to the Rainbow Gathering in US national parks, the visiting and soaking in Harbin Hot Springs, and the poetry of Canyon, California 94516, especially.

The poems "From Near Taos: Rainbow Gathering in New Mexico, Dipping in & out of Bliss, Blissware" (https://twitter.com/scottmacleod/status/1064336117825032197) to "Bonobo Loving Bliss" (https://twitter.com/scottmacleod/status/1064337217206644737) to "Rainbow is rebellious, like the 4th of July, against the powers that be, - so be hippies" (https://twitter.com/scottmacleod/status/1064339465554935809) travel far, in their language, and where they go 'virtually,' - in completely new directions. Some are lyrical, while others go deeply into life at Rainbow Gatherings (in the western US) and Harbin Hot Springs (in northern California). Loving bliss neurophysiology and language are creatively explored in brand new ways - and, in conversation with the reader, to bring you to this "space."

The Poetry of Loving bliss is a completely new direction in poetry writing as well. What’s also unique about this volume of poetry is the addition of a blog link with every poem, where in these blog posts, you will also find photographs.

A work in progress, on with publishing my 3rd book here today ...

And here are the extraordinary Yo-Yo Ma - Bach Suites #2, #3 & 6 -

Hoping my IRS Form 1040 will show much more income in 2020 ... 2019 looks like it will be another very very impoverished year (while living in a lovely place, spending much time at Stanford ... being fairly creative with WUaS, blogging, book writing, music-making ... but neither with further Harbin ethnography nor raising a family) ...

What are you up to this weekend?

Seasons' Greetings' letter ahead here soon as well, but after my book gets in.

Hi M,

Well, I uploaded a fairly complete 8.5 x 11 manuscript of "Winding Road Rainbow" as PDF to the new and improved KDP book publishing system, and it went smoothly, made a cover that I like with new features in this updated software (from CreateSpace), but I wanted a 6
x 9 size book. So I just reformatted the book in a 6x9 World Doc template, added page numbers, and re-uploaded. My book is now 100 pages long ... and on to reviewing.

It's a pretty amazing publishing process :)

Hi M -

'Winding Road Rainbow: Harbin, Wandering and the Poetry of Loving Bliss' is published, will sell for $9.99 and is "in review" for 72 hours where it should appear here  - https://amazon.com/author/scottmacleodworlduniversity ... (I added some Twitterverse web addresses newly in this my second book of poetry)  ... and it's published by the Press at World University and School - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html ...

Glad to have this in ... and this KDP I.T. publishing process is a great model for the WUaS Academic Press, planned with machine translation ... and especially in Spanish ... And the Kindle Direct Publishing process worked better than the last 2 years, due to iterating on this software I think ... How could this emerge out of the Google / Stanford / Alphabet platform I wonder?

What are you up to this weekend, Ma? Annual Scottish Country Dancing party in Berkeley is tomorrow ... may play music a bit this evening.

Hi M,

Nice to read in the middle of the night ... woke up unusually for an hour or two. Read. 2 books "Creative Computing" (by Harvard GSE's Karen Brennan +) and "How Scots Invented the Modern World" and a magazine - the Reed College quarterly magazine. In it in class notes, where sone Reedies mention books they've written, it invites mention of my new book, and potentially all 3.

Took a good walk at 9pm down the winding road in Canyon and up ... the winding road in the title of my book is partly this Canyon road, partly a road in life I've taken, partly traveling to and from Canyon, Harbin and to Rainbow Gatherings and more.

And my book is at the 'printers' - the WUaS Press has published it - and my book is a song, per this email thread.

The cover photo of a Woman Walking in Meadow at the Rainbow Gathering in 2008 in Wyoming with Tee Pee in background, and people under a little rainbow umbrella + (will email it from a different email), isn-t wearing a top so touches on the theme of nudity running through my books, esp re the title of my first big book "Naked Harbin Ethnography" and is attractive and interesting as photo too compositionally. She's also wearing a kind of hippy patchwork long dress.

The pink color in the top half of the cover could somehow reflect the loving bliss ideas of the title and related neurophysiologies explored in the book. The woman walking in meadow photo is both on the bottom half of the front, and on the whole back of the cover newly under the text. (The previous software for my two books - CreateSpace - didn't allow for putting a photo on the back cover while KDP software does).

Just writing some thoughts about the cover of my new book which itself is a song.

...

What are you up to this weekend? Christmas Scottish Country Dance party this evening in Berkeley at which I'm music-making and not dancing ... and seeking too a friend and partner potentially.

Your son, writer of song. :)

L,
Scott

Hi M,

Here's the cover photo ... glad to have found it on my computer's hard drive some months ago, and from the Rainbow Gathering in Wyoming in 2008.

Just read through my "Winding Road Rainbow" manuscript again, italicized some foreign words, found 2 blank pages in the middle, so removed those, and re-paginated the book. Tried to upload it again to KDP, but can't since it's 'in review' for 72 hours, so I asked KDP to call me, and will seek to upload this last and improved version, after talking with them. The book is now 98 pages long, and not 100. :)

Found this "Enunciation" -  https://courses.nus.edu.sg/course/elljwp/psycholondon.htm - an interesting expression of Lacanian thinking:

Enunciation

In psychoanalytic theory the distinction between the subject of the statement (parole, speech, the utterance) and the subject of enunciation (langue, the language system) corresponds to Sigmund Freud’s distinction between consciousness and the unconscious.  Jacques Lacan argues that since the subject comes into being through language, he does so through the exercise of signifying articulation. As soon as he comes into being he finds himself not as he is (what Lacan would call the truth of his being) but as he imagines himself to be – that is, as a representation (at the level of the statement). In order to discover the subject of the unconscious the analyst must focus on the level of enunciation (performance, expression) in order to recognize the truth of the subject in the articulation of language, its enunciation. So the relation between statement and enunciation (the said and the saying) actualizes the divided structure of the psychoanalytic subject and helps to clarify the difference between the imaginary (fixed and complete image of person) and the symbolic (the constitutive function of language). The distinction between the symbolic and the imaginary thus maps onto that between langue and parole. Lacan also argues that metaphor and metonymy, located by Jacobson on the paradigmatic and syntagmatic axes respectively, correspond to Freud’s accounts of the displacements and condensations of dreams, thus providing the analyst a further resource in a kind of literary criticism. A displacement censors a dream by substituting relatively harmless images or objects for those more likely to cause anxiety. Condensation merges images, places them together, confusing them.

Hi Sue,

Very nice to talk with you yesterday evening, and looking forward to seeing  you soon in Pittsburgh, as well as in April in Martinez, CA. Maybe we can visit John Muir's home there (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Muir_National_Historic_Site and https://www.nps.gov/jomu/index.htm) when you visit. ...  Canyon is both beautiful and
interesting.

This MIT Blockchain for Robotic Systems' day-long Symposium on 12/5/18 was
fascinating (and is available online) -

https://youtu.be/OcSYWWuO6rU
https://twitter.com/medialab/status/1069996499063488512 - and it adds a very new dimension with robotics to the Blockchain ledger -

as well ...

and
https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/12/tunguska-russia-asteroid-1908.html (Much
more in my blog about Blockchain if interested).

And finally in a related vein - since CryptoCurrencies and the Blockchain
ledger work together - here's Satoshi Nakamoto's seminal 2008 paper
"Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System"
https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf.

What are the possibilities for tea at Scottish Country Dancing over the holiday in Pittsburgh? The Berkeley SCD holiday party on Saturday was fun ... but I only played Scottish small pipes' music and base lines on keyboard in 14 musician band - mostly Open Band related :) - https://twitter.com/TheOpenBand/status/1074000473135374337. Does Pittsburgh have a Tools' Lending Library, like in Berkeley?

Warm regards,

If anyone is going to be in Pittsburgh over the holidays, Sioux and I are exploring the idea of meeting for tea at a Pittsburgh Scottish Country Dance. Since they meet on Saturdays and Mondays - http://www.pittsburghscottishcountrydance.org/Home_Page.html - they conceivably could be meeting on Saturday, December 29th :) http://www.pittsburghscottishcountrydance.org/Calendar.html ... Hugh? Rob, Dave, Henry, Greg? :) We may get together otherwise as well.

But great - the WUaS Press has published its 3rd book! :)

Hi Heartsong, Gabrielle and Ed,

Have you seen this
"The Way It Is: Summer of '67" by the Canadian Broadcasting System?

It's interesting and well done ...

The Way it Was: San Francisco Summer of 1967

https://youtu.be/pEejp5_UMyQ

It was first broadcast in 1968 ... interesting shots of SF.

https://www.cbc.ca/archives/entry/haight-ashbury-the-birth-of-hip

Searched on the introducer John Saywell Summer of '67 and found:

https://www.jstor.org/stable/10.3138/j.ctt2ttrqn

https://books.google.com/books?id=hPP0AwAAQBAJ&pg=PA222&lpg=PA222&dq=john+saywell+summer+of+67&source=bl&ots=T_qXQs1OWo&sig=ZQAVYZBfuYNlmFCQZhwgXgsqDT0&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwis3P_YhqbfAhUvJTQIHfoXCg8Q6AEwAHoECAcQAQ#v=onepage&q=john%20saywell%20summer%20of%2067&f=false

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Way_It_Is_(TV_series)

What do you think of the vision for the Magic scenes, Heartsong?

1960s' World University and School wiki subject for open teaching and learning ...
https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/1960s

There's a button on this Youtube video itself on my screen in the bottom right which looks like it could be used for navigation if this became a virtual world ... am curious to realize this.

It seems like this video itself is its own kind of "Lucid Dreaming" per 'Lucid Dreaming - Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche.'

Warm regards, Scott

Hi Jonathan, (and Marianna and Ellen),

Nice to see you last night. Do you know Vashti Bunyan's music from the 1960s / '70s? I enjoy it a lot, mentioned it to Marianna, and am sending it to you and her for your listening enjoyment. Could you possibly please forward this to her, since I don't have her email address. Vashti's music is a kind of plain song, and also folk rock. Vashti also interestingly journeyed with a horse and cart from London to the Isle of Skye beginning in the summer of 1968, which I explore below as well.

"It had been the work of two long years which saw Bunyan and her then-partner, Robert, leave London in a horse-drawn wagon bound for the Isle of Skye, where Donovan was starting a Utopian community, repopulating the abandoned houses of crofters with artists and musicians."

"MW: What was your connection with Donovan, who founded the community?

So there may be an influence of the Hebrides in her work as well (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_Another_Diamond_Day). I think it could be fun to journey by foot, bicycle or horse and wagon for a few years in the US as well. (I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail in 1980 for 3.5 months and in 1982 for another 1.5 months, while studying at Reed, so such journeys are fascinating). Vashti's traveling in the late 1960s to Skye is also interesting re https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Ethnomusicology and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Folklore_-_Ethnology. But I find Vashti's interest in community re the 1960s and '70s fascinating (and re Donovan), and which overlaps with my interests in the 1960s and '70s.

But Harbin Hot Springs has its own potential for exploring folk music, and out of the 1960s as well - and newly both actually and virtually.

Check out too - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Hippies - to which people can wiki-add.

Nice to talk with you last night, Marianna, and I hope your foot heals soon.

How do "The Scottish Enlightenment : The Scots' Invention of the Modern World" and "How the Scots Invented the Modern World: The True Story of How Western
Europe's Poorest Nation Created Our World & Everything in It" by Arthur Herman differ?

They're the same, just released in different countries. In the process of exploring this, I found some edifying encapsulations of its main theses.

Wikipedia:

How the Scots Invented the Modern World: The True Story of How Western Europe's Poorest Nation Created Our World & Everything in It (or The Scottish Enlightenment: The Scots invention of the Modern World) is a non-fiction book written by American historian Arthur Herman. The book examines the origins of the Scottish Enlightenment and what impact it had on the modern world. Herman focuses principally on individuals, presenting their biographies in the context of their individual fields and also in terms of the theme of Scottish contributions to the world.

The book was published as a hardcover in November 2001 by Crown Publishing Group and as a trade paperback in September 2002. Critics found the thesis to be over-reaching but descriptive of the Scots' disproportionate impact on modernity.

How the Scots Invented the Modern World: The True Story of How Western Europe's Poorest Nation Created Our World & Everything in It

This is a fantastic book. The Scottish Enlightenment is greatly overlooked by most historians and professors. This book gives a great look at the Scottish Enlightenment, and its influence on the rest of the world. If you are interested in the Enlightenment, this is a must read. Understanding that Europe looked to Scotland in the late 18th century for what was civilization, you can see that France and England were not the only ones going through an Enlightenment, and they were not the most advanced during that time. Voltaire once said "We look to Scotland for all our ideas of civilisation." It should be noted that it is the exact same book as How the Scots Invented the Modern World, apparently the US title.

Although there are a few chapters in this book dedicated to explaining the ideas of the philosophers of the Scottish Enlightenment, the bulk of the book is an examination of how those ideas spread and changed not just Scotland or the UK but, in Herman's view, the Western world. As with Herman's more recent book, The Cave and the Light, this is a hugely readable and enjoyable history - Herman writes in a way that makes his books very accessible to non-academic readers.

Starting in the century or so before the Enlightenment period, Herman explains the various factors that led to the Union of 1707. He shows the stranglehold that the Kirk had on Scottish society, but that out of this grew the idea of man as a free individual - that monarchs were not absolute and that tyrannies could and should be challenged. He gives the Kirk the credit for the idea that education should be for all, making Scotland one of the most literate societies in the world, with an appetite for books other than the Bible. And he explains very clearly the impact of the Darien scheme on both the financial state of Scotland and on its self-confidence as a nation. In Herman's view, the Union was a resoundingly positive development for Scotland, despite its unpopularity amongst ordinary people, since it opened up opportunities and access to the rest of the world via the rapidly developing British Empire, hence revolutionising Scotland both economically and culturally.

In the next couple of chapters, Herman deals in some depth with two of the earliest and most influential figures of the Scottish Enlightenment, Hutcheson and Kames, showing how their ideas developed, where they contrasted and overlapped, and the influence that each had on those thinkers who followed them. He highlights Hutcheson as the altruist, the first liberal, who developed the idea of the 'pursuit of happiness' with man as a free individual choosing to work together for the common good. Kames is portrayed more as a hard-nosed realist (cynic?) believing that societies come together primarily to provide protection for their property from external threats. In these chapters, Herman also shows the beginnings of what we would now call the 'social sciences' - the scientific study of human society and social relationships.

The rest of the first section of the book is taken up with a wide-ranging history of eighteenth century Scotland. Herman discusses the reasons behind the Jacobite rebellions, showing that the divide was much more complex than the simplistic picture of Scotland v England, so beloved of nationalists and film-makers alike. He discusses the clan culture of the Highlands in some depth, stripping away much of the romanticism that has built up over it in the intervening years. He shows how Lowland Scotland, what we would now think of as the Central Belt, was much more in tune with its English partners, particularly as the two main cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh began to reap major economic benefits from access to the Empire. Throughout these chapters, he continues to show how Enlightenment thinking was developing via such huge figures as Hume and Smith, and influencing not just Scottish society, but attracting students from the UK and Europe to study at Scottish universities.

The second half of the book is largely devoted to showing how the Scottish Diaspora, forced and voluntary, meant that Scottish ideas were disseminated throughout the Empire, particularly to the white English-speaking Dominions. From educators to scientists and engineers, Herman's position is that Scots were responsible for the birth of what we would now think of as 'modernity'. Being an American, Herman lays particular emphasis on what he sees as the huge contribution Scots and Scottish ideas made to the founding and Constitution of the US, physically, politically and intellectually. He shows how, in his opinion, the inbuilt 'gridlock' of the American political system rose specifically out of Scottish Enlightenment ideas, to provide protection for individuals and communities from the power of an overweening government. He explains the huge influence that Scots had in creating and developing the early American system of education and universities such as Princeton. And, of course, he credits the great Scottish economists with the creation of the capitalist system he so clearly admires.

While I found this a most informative and enjoyable read (who doesn't enjoy having their national ego stroked?), I did feel that at points, particularly in the latter half of the book, Herman was stretching his argument a bit. I would be the last person to belittle the huge contribution of the Scottish Enlightenment philosophers; or of the Scottish engineers, scientists, writers, religious leaders and statesmen who spread the Enlightenment ideas throughout the colonies and dominions of the Empire. But sometimes Herman gives the distinct impression that the Scots are really the only people who have ever done anything - the rest of the world seems to have rather passively sat back and let the Scots get on with it. (And frankly I'm not sure if I want to be held responsible for America!) If a man of another nationality is credited with something, Herman trawls his background to give him a Scottish connection - he studied at a Scottish University or his grandfather came from just over the English border so was nearly Scottish...or his grandmother once ate haggis. (OK, I might have exaggerated that last one a little.)

But with that small reservation aside, I would heartily recommend this book to anyone who wants a clearer understanding of the history of this period, both as it affected Scotland and the wider world. And, in this year of the Scottish Independence referendum, a useful reminder of the reasons behind the Union and the early economic benefits of it, providing food for thought for either camp as to whether those reasons and benefits are still relevant today.

The errors concerning the Scottish Highlands are too many to enumerate. Anecdotes are related as though they were real history. A female visitor scolds a Highlander for not helping his wife plough the land; he responds he couldn't because he was a gentleman. In Gaelic the word for gentleman and nobleman is the same -- duine uasal. Nobility was dependant on blood, not a feudal title so gentlemen could be quite poor. The anecdote could have been explained to show the differences between Highlands and Lowlands in this period. The story about Big Archie MacPhail who killed a man over a misunderstanding caused by the language barrier is written in a biased manner. I assume it was meant to be humorous.

Drumossie Moor is not in Aberdeenshire; it's in Inverness-shire, to use the historical terms for the regions. The author used 'plaid' instead of 'tartan' to refer to the pattern of cheques. Should a book on Scotland follow Scottish usage? I think so.

'Sorning' is to impose 'oneself on another for bed and board' (Jamieson's Dictionary); Herman spelled it 'scorning' and gave the Lowland explanation. Lowlanders hated the old custom because it enabled chiefs to maintain an army at little cost; the Jacobite rebellions would not have been possible without it. The Gaelic term is 'buannachas', giving free quarters to soldiers instead of paying rent.

This is truly a 'popular' history in the sense that the author hasn't given footnotes and is, therefore, able to say what he likes. He has absorbed the prejudices of the 'Enlightened' men of the Lowlands. An essential book for understanding this author's interpretation of Scottish history is William Ferguson's 'The Identity of the Scottish Nation: An Historic Quest'.

Plans for the New Year:

Seeking to help people realize their dreams at World Univ. & Sch. and with:

“What are your educational goals and dreams? Tell us in the comments. With over 2,400 MIT courses represented on OCW, we can help take you to that next level. Get started now-->http://ocw.mit.edu” - https://twitter.com/MITOCW/status/1075069530500665344 ... and via free universal education potentially for all 7.5 billion people.

WUaS plans to accredit with the state of California's BPPE -
https://twitter.com/CaBPPE/status/1024666814989488134
 - beginning in February, and is seeking ~500 online students for free-to-students' degrees in the autumn of 2019. WUaS also seeks to become financially operational this year. Am also continuing to seek a faculty position at Stanford University to teach, and to collaborate re World University and School, in its ~200 countries’ official / main languages and in all 7,097 living languages.

In addition to continuing to teach - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html - I continue to develop Friendly-informed World University and School - http://worlduniversityandschool.org - which is planning major Universities in all countries' main languages, accrediting on CC-4 MIT OCW in 5 languages and CC Yale OYC, as well as wiki schools in all 7,097 living languages, for open teaching and learning. Glad too that World University and School has a new WIKI in WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki -https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States (each to become a major university in countries’ official/main languages). Find or add a WUaS Subject you’d love to teach or learn - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects. On this wiki side, anyone can teach or create a new wiki subject page, or code creatively in other ways, by editing a page. On the online free CC OCW degree side (Bachelor, Ph.D., law, M.D. as well as I.B. high school - again planned for all ~200 countries' main languages), WUaS would like to begin with hiring graduate student instructors (which also works for accreditation – re GSIs teaching "sections") from greatest universities to teach in group video conferencing to the OCW MIT and Yale faculty in video, for interactivity, and to keep teachers central to WUaS as we grow. WUaS is waiting on a pending WUaS National Science Foundation grant application to begin this process. WUaS would also like to become a major employer in all 8k languages. WUaS seeks to become major universities as the “MIT / Stanford of the web” in all nation states’ main and official languages, especially with regard to their STEM ethoses. If you know of prospective undergraduate students who might be interested in matriculating at World University in the autumn of 2019 for free-to-students' CC-4 MIT OCW-centric degrees, please let WUaS know at info@worlduniversityandschool.org.

While World University and School is very thrifty – it’s also an amazing hybrid situation: A) World Univ. & Sch. - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch - is non-profit as of 2010, and incorporated in 2017 as a forked parallel second legal entity, B) the WUaS Press / Corp - https://twitter.com/WUaSPress - which is a for-profit general stock company, where both are planned in each of all ~200 countries, and in all 7097 living languages with machine learning and machine translation. Wow!

Am finding guidance from Stanford Emeritus President & Professor John Hennessy’s new book "Leading Matters: Lessons from My Journey," which I really enjoyed reading, after hearing him twice recently in the SF Bay Area, once with Marissa Mayer.

Glad too to have given a "Harbin & Avatar Bots: Robotics & Tourism" talk at UC Berkeley " on Fri. 10/26/2018 -
https://youtu.be/dN80Hm_db2I  … (see too - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/12/rainbows-in-culture-freud-and-lacan.html?m=0).

And I continue music-making playing Scottish small pipes (having moved on from playing the Great Highland Bagpipe after about 40 years, but playing with the same fingering), as well as keyboard bass lines, and much for Scottish Country Dancing, - enjoyably so.

I'd still like to begin a family and have children, and am remaining open to this.

You might also enjoy these ‘Hippy-Anjali Yoga Notations’ in this holiday time - http://www.scottmacleod.com/yoganotations.html - that creatively develop out of Yoga philosophy.

Seasons' Greetings, Happy Holidays, Merry Xmas, and Happy New Year :)

All the best to you in the New Year and beyond,
Scott

Hi Ed and Sunheart, (and Eric, Sajjad, Byron and Lafcadio),

Am writing to wish you happy holidays, and happy New Year.

Am including "Winding Road Rainbow: Harbin, Wandering and the Poetry of Loving Bliss," my new book, for you (in PDF format).

It explores newly loving bliss in poetry. From the Preface: "Loving bliss neurophysiology and language are creatively explored in brand new ways - and, in conversation with the reader, to bring you to this "space." The poetry of loving bliss is a completely new direction in poetry writing as well."

Am also sending you my Seasons' Greetings' letter here - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/12/armeria-maritima-seasons-greetings-2018.html?m=0 ...

Re Gabrielle’s:

“What are you thinking here? Virtuous — as in full of virtue? Give me more details” and your, Sunheart, " Virtuous - Reality/Ralationship  Coaches  ... both entertaining ... within Sat-Chit-Anand...   Jai Ma! “ …

Re the word 'virtuous,' Sunheart and All, I also head in the direction of non-harming, caring, not making victims of people (i.e. slave trade, human sex trade), non-stealing ... somewhat also explored in these Hippy Anjali Yoga Notations - http://www.scottmacleod.com/yoganotations.html - as well ...

Seasons' Greetings, happy holidays, Merry Xmas, and Happy New Year.

Friendly greetings, and fond regards,
Scott

Reed College friends ...

Hi Reedies, All,

Seasons' Greetings, happy holidays, Merry Xmas, Happy Solstice, and Happy New Year!

Have any of you re-visited Jimi Hendrix in '69 recently -

And thanks again for your great ski-ing photos, Karen! It's possible at this point to add such photos to Google Street View (e.g. see "Coastal sage scrub: Amazing - Concerning my Harbin Hot Springs' Gate photo I added to Street View ... "  - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/04/coastal-sage-scrub-amazing-concerning.html), but not yet to ski with them at home with a X-C ski machine, for ex., or even to walk up the hill to the virtual Harbin Hot Springs' pool area, and soak in a virtual Harbin warm pool, but with something like the Nordic Track Incline Trainer at home I think it will be possible to start walking up to soak virtually, and then hop into one's home BATHTUB for a meditation -

Seasons' cheer, Scott
