Hi Victoria,

Welcome to Wikimedia and hearty congratulations on your new position as its CTO.

I'm writing to let you know about CC World University and School - http://worlduniversityandschool.org -
which seeks to offer online accrediting CC wiki university and high school degrees in all countries' main languages (e.g. ~200 Harvards of the Internet), and CC wiki schools for open teaching and learning in all 7,097 living languages, - and become a growth story for Wikimedia as well as the Web itself, by developing in all 7,943 languages (entries under languages in Glottolog) - and as academic markets in these, in addition to as schools. WUaS like Wikimedia is committed to open and free knowledge.

The reason I'm writing you is that World University donated CC WUaS to CC Wikidata last October 2015 (per L. P., whom I'm CC-ing here), and is seeking to emerge soon from Wikidata into a new wiki, beginning in all of MIT OCW's 7 languages and UN languages, and indeed soon-ish in all 358 of Wikipedia's languages.

WUaS is also forking from its current non-profit Creative Commons' wing, centering on CC MIT OCW in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC, into a second parallel for-profit wing - with many products planned per these 14 planned revenue streams - http://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html - on both a) (possibly) the CC non-profit side and the b) for-profit side - in all ~206 countries' main languages or in all 8k languages. CC WUaS (donated to Wikidata) is filing the legal papers for our for-profit wing in a second semester UC Berkeley Law class this autumn.

In addition to congratulating you heartily on your new position, Victoria, - in what ways might we best communicate further about how best for WUaS to emerge from Wikidata?

Thank you.

Appreciatively,
Scott

Estonian friends, re Estonia World University and School ...

Very nice to meet you yesterday at - https://events.stanford.edu/events/637/63739/ - and what an interesting presentation and information sharing!

Here are the very beginnings of wiki Estonia World University and School (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Estonia), and Estonian language WUaS (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Estonian_language), not yet with MIT OCW in Estonian - https://plus.google.com/+ScottMacLeodWorldUniversity/posts/PP1G56btptN - and before WUaS emerges newly from Wikidata (Wikipedia's 4 year old database developing for Wikipedia's 358 languages) into a new, better wiki.

What would be the best way to communicate further about developing Estonia WUaS in Estonian (and possibly the other Baltic States' WUaSs as well)?

(And here is the beginning Russia WUaS - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Russian_Federation - not yet in Russian).

And here are CC MIT OCW Translated Courses in 6 languages - http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/translated-courses/ which CC WUaS will add to CC Wikidata.

With an explicit multi-lingual focus at CC WUaS, what would be helpful for Estonians re free, CC MIT OCW-centric Bachelor, Ph.D., law and M.D. degrees as well as I.B. high school diplomas eventually?

Looking forward to communicating further about this over time! And very nice to meet all of you!

Best regards, Scott

Dear Universitians and friends,

Please join us at our open (hour-long) World University and School monthly business meeting this Saturday, November 12, at 9am Pacific Time (1700 UTC), in a conference call.

News and Agenda

World University and School is proceeding to file For-Profit legal papers with the state of California and the US government, FORKING in the process to complement our current 501 c 3 Non-Profit status - in WUaS's second semester in a row in the UC Berkeley Law "New Business Practicum" course. WUaS's forking will take shape around these 14 Planned Revenue Streams - http://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html. WUaS is planning to become CC Universities on its non-profit wing in all ~200 countries' main and official languages - the "Harvards of the Web."

2
WUaS has recently inquired with a number of people about them joining the WUaS For-Profit Board, and 4 people have expressed interest. If you would like to talk further about joining the WUaS For-Profit Board of Directors, please reply to this email.

WUaS will speak with Harvard Medical School's Dr. Katz (at Brigham and Women's Hospital) later this month about possible collaborations re CC World University and School's planned online medical schools, and online teaching hospitals (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Hospital), in all ~200 countries' main and official languages. WUaS would be very interested in having the Harvard Medical School inform all WUaS's online Med Schools in all ~206 (per the recent Olympics) countries' official + languages.

Scott helped to host the Wikidata 4th birthday party in San Francisco on Wednesday October 26th, with a photo here - https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Fourth_Birthday. WUaS, having donated CC WUaS to CC Wikidata last October 2015 around this time, also celebrated its own birthday in Wikidata. WUaS also hopes to begin building out of Wikidata (which is developing for CC Wikipedia's 358 languages) into a new wiki in the next few months, first by adding CC MIT OCW in 7 languages (and CC Yale OYC) to CC Wikidata, first for a course catalog and student application/registration process ("You at WUaS").

5
Scott continues to post nearly daily about World University and School developments here - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/global%20university

6
Volunteers sought to help further develop wiki World University and School in multiple ways (and languages). No experience necessary. Please reply if interested in this creative opportunity.

7 WUaS has two new newspapers -

The World University and School Daily

https://paper.li/WorldUnivAndSch/1474335157 and  - The MIT OpenCourseWare Daily https://paper.li/WorldUnivAndSch/1474335977 - with which WUAS is experimenting. Both carry this subtitle - "a) MIT is not affiliated with, and does not endorse, World University and School b) MIT does not offer credit to WUaS students, and c) All MIT OpenCourseWare materials are available for free" per communications with MIT Dean Cecilia d'Oliveira this spring.

Universitians:

Thank you for joining the World University and School team. WUaS invites you to participate in our open, hour-long, monthly, business meeting on Saturday, November 12th, beginning at 9 a.m., Pacific Time / 12 noon ET.

I'd like to invite you to WUaS's monthly business meeting this Saturday, November 12th at 9am PT (2nd Saturdays of the month, hour-long and electronically mediated) if you'd like to learn further how WUaS makes decisions, plans and works, and participate in this process.
This month we'll meet via the Free Conference Call number to participate - (641) 715-3580, access code - 118-021-765 - at 9am Pacific Time.

WUaS will also hold monthly business meeting in a Hangout on Air (and on the phone for others) at 1700 UTC on November 12th (2nd Saturday of the month as usual).

The agenda for the upcoming Saturday, November 12th2016 WUaS, monthly, business meeting is here - http://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/11/open-wuas-monthly-business-meeting-this.html

I've attached WUaS's financial report for October 2016 in this WUaS business meeting email.

World University and School is looking for a new, Board member, for example, to focus on fundraising, and to actually bring in significant monies for WUaS.org, the Non-Proift wing.

The next, open, hour-long, WUaS, monthly business meeting is on Saturday, December 10th, 2016.

And this month I'll continue to send out a second email after business meeting with WUaS Minutes.

You'll also find some previous monthly business meetings (conducted electronically in the manner of F/friends) as examples in Google Hangouts here - http://scottmacleod.com/papers.htm. WUaS's active blog with past monthly business information is here - http://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com

For people on the sporadic, somewhat frequent, WUaS, email list, or who wish to be, WUaS is posting actively to both the WUaS Google Group (world-university-and-school@googlegroups.com), and the WUaS Yahoo Group (worlduniversityandschool@yahoogroups.com), both of which allow for daily and weekly digests. Please join these groups for daily and weekly digests.

Concerning this WUaS team email list, we'll generally send out business meeting emails twice a month. If you'd like to receive more frequent, sporadic, WUaS emails, please reply to this email telling me so. If you could, please REPLY with UNSUBSCRIBE, or an alternative email address, if you wish NOT to receive WUaS's emails, or receive them in a different email account, - and WUaS would be very grateful.

World University and School is planning to become the MIT / Harvard / Yale / Stanford / Oxbridge of the Internet, and in all 7,097+ living languages and 206+ countries (in recent Olympics), with online, Creative Commons' licensed MIT OCW-centric university degrees in large languages.

Free, Creative Commons' licensed, online, wiki WUaS, like Wikipedia with MIT OCW, is planned for all 3,000-8,000 languages and for around 204 countries, with free degrees accrediting on C.C. MIT OpenCourseWare in 7 languages and C.C. Yale OYC+, - and will help many, many people.

Thank you again for your generous donations in helping grow World University and School.

Sincerely,
Scott

Hi All,

CC World University and School, planning to offer online CC (so free) Bachelor, Ph.D., Law and M.D. degrees as well as I.B. high school diplomas, in all countries' main and official languages, is Friendly-informed, so will take a kind of unprogrammed Quaker approach to

"Lesson plans for teaching for a peaceful, diverse world that is safe for everyone"

in creating WUaS's own CC OpenCourseWare (and likely building on what has been taught at Haverford, Swarthmore, Earlham and Guilford colleges, for example, all historic Quaker colleges).

WUaS plans to develop in Wikidata (Wikipedia's 4 year old database developing with AI, machine learning and machine translation) while accrediting on CC MIT OCW in its 7 languages - e.g. https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/translated-courses/ - and CC Yale OYC. WUaS seeks to become the accrediting Harvard / Stanford of the internet in all countries' main and official languages.

As a wiki, anyone will be able to add course ware or resources to pages such as this -  http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Peace_and_Social_Justice_Studies - which will become more user friendly after we move into a new wiki.

Classes will occur in group video such as in Google group video Hangouts, and in MIT UnHangouts.

WUaS is also planning wiki schools for open teaching and learning in all 7,097 living languages. Hopefully this all-languages' dialogue opportunity among people who want to think together (with wik MIT / Yale academic standards) will facilitate such peace-generation and learning as well.

Friendly regards,
Scott

Mary,

Likewise, and greetings to FCNL's Diane Randall and Christine Ashley if you happen to see them. It seems like this upcoming new administration will be a focusing opportunity for FCNL.

I'm curious about possible US government funding for Friendly-informed World University and School, accrediting on CC MIT OCW and CC Yale OYC in its 7 languages. I'm posting below an email I sent to the Association of Internet Researchers email list yesterday re their email thread "[Air-L] Lesson plans for teaching for a peaceful, diverse world that is safe for everyone" (which I'll probably post to my blog on Sunday). Who might Diane or Christine or others at FCNL might suggest talking to in these regards, I wonder.

Appreciating online Western Friend Quaker Meeting!

Best, Scott

Hi M,

Nice to be in touch again with Craig, Bill and Adam from Reed over the weekend. Bill was a very good friend at Reed, and is getting to a fairly senior writer at the NY Times. Adam and Craig seem pretty cheery navigating the modern world as they have. All three are Dads of teens or twenty year olds.

Here's a recent NY Times' article by Bill:

The END OF POVERTY (in addition to an UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME? ... with World University helping?)

How would this work?

WUaS would like to help develop ...

Bitcoin (or similar) in all ~206 countries' official languages, with WUaS law students in each nation state writing the code for this (and WUAS computer science students also writing this code, also in these languages).

Having seen that even people in poorest countries around the world often have mobile phones, extend these "semiconductor chip" devices into chips in bit coins with the block chain (a relational database, too - and in CC Wikidata, with its 358 languages),  keeping both anonymity (fungibility) as well as database information values of this new currency (building on the history and advantages of the Euro in some 28 European countries).

Guarantee a basic universal income in all ~200 countries (especially in Africa) to all 7 billion people in all ~256 countries (by population per Wikipedia), but also help the people in and these nation states themselves, information technologically, develop their taxation systems to improve infrastructure and legal systems, so poorest peoples and countries can successfully develop with revenue sources.

Make arrangements with central banks in each of all these countries to generate Bit Coin (and lower trading costs dramatically), and plan for both Bit Coin in all ~200 countries' stock markets, as well as developments that emerge from and after Bit Coin is adopted universally (nearly)

Sandhill crane: Great talk this morning by Dr. Alia Crum at Stanford Medicine's Grand Rounds - What will an inter-lingual research approach to Mindset show?, "Change your mindset, change the game," To /Psychology & /Research at WUaS, Interlingually?

Wednesday, November 16, 2016

Dear Alia,

Thanks for your inspiring and fascinating talk this morning at Stanford - http://medicinecalendars.stanford.edu/event/medicine-grand-rounds-with-alia-crum. One main question I have is: What will an inter-lingual research approach to "Mindset" show - in both medicine and psychological research, for example?

World University and School plans to create major universities in all ~206 countries' main languages, as well as wiki schools for open teaching and learning in all 7,097+ living languages, developing in Wikidata (CC Wikipedia's 4 year old database with AI, machine learning and machine translation in its 358 languages). CC WUaS seeks to accredit on CC MIT OCW in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC to begin, and to offer online CC Bachelor, Ph.D., law, and M.D. degrees, as well as I.B. high school diplomas, also in all countries' main languages, beginning with our first undergraduate class in the autumn of 2017 in English, and with matriculated students studying from their homes via the internet potentially in all countries in the world. Classes will take place interactively in video conferences (e.g. Google Hangouts, MIT UnHangouts, +), with WUaS hiring graduate students from great universities in many languages who are learning to become faculty.  WUaS plans to move into a new wiki emerging from Wikidata soon.

So WUaS will develop Psychology (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Psychology) and Medical research (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University_Medical_School) comparatively and inter-lingually in all countries' main languages. Your research seems extensible to the Internet. Have you done many psychological experiments over the internet?

WUaS is also planning an online teaching hospital - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Hospital - with our online Medical School in all countries' main languages - and per this Stanford Medicine thinking as well - https://plus.google.com/+ScottMacLeodWorldUniversity/posts/K24f6CqC22k. Here, for example, is beginning India World University and School - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/India - not yet in Hindi or any of its other official languages.

WUaS seeks to become the Harvard/Stanford of the internet in each countries' official languages.

In what ways might we best communicate further about this?

Thank you, Alia! It's so great to hear and meet you.

Best regards,
Scott

Tired here from 2 5am mornings in a row. Interesting speaking and financial developments emerged recently at Stanford too re WUaS.

I found Stanford Professor Alia Crum's talk at Ground Rounds yesterday (which I got up at 5 for) once again inspiring and it's similar to her TED talk here -
Change your mindset, change the game | Dr. Alia Crum | TEDxTraverseCity

https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=cA9o3TYNFp8 - which I'm watching for a 2nd time, for a total of 3. Blogged about this yesterday further - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/11/sandhill-crane-great-talk-this-morning.html.

Mindsets matter relative to body biological processes and she's proving how scientifically - so, placebo effects have measurable benefits. Her studies are smart, and she's very happy-making (for me) when she presents this thinking and evidence  live.

So I'm going to set my mind to be happy as I continue to develop my big project/WUaS  (learning from Alia:)  Watch her TED Talk, and begin to smile more - set your mind on this. I hope to build on her work and re eliciting loving bliss as well.

Friend:
I'm going to reset my mind by going to bed early and getting up early to set on my meditation cushion long enough for my mind to settle.

Scott:
Her experiments and her modeling are her positive pills for me ! She's just describing her experiments ... haven't learned how she applies such to her own life systematically

Hi M,

No 5 am morning today, I wonder what scaling World University will be like. What happens if we can grow like Google, with its innovations as it grows AI wise, to ~ 50,000 employees, for example - and in Wikidata (Wikipedia's back end) in its 358 languages - and then grow to 20 times this with ~ 800,000 undergrad and grad students, working 10 hours per week, in 8000 languages? What a change!

Looks like I got an offer yesterday to give a Stanford Law Codex talk in January or spring re WUaS's  online planned law schools in all countries' main languages, I'm glad to say. I hope to engage the Wikidata folks in these regards, re beginning to develop WUaS in Wikidata newly, so I can show this.

Your daily news' rituals (PBS Newshour and the PPG and Sunday NYTs +) are very mind and thinking oriented - and use it or lose it (one's brain - which I often read on a Reed College psychology Professor's door (in the early 80s) - Carol Creedon (http://www.reed.edu/reed_magazine/december2012/articles/features/creedon.html& http://www.reed.edu/reed_magazine/december2012/articles/letters/creedon.html) - or exercise it.

How about substituting a different new's show (Democracy Now online?) for your daily ritual - and a variety of newspapers online, from the the Washington Post, to the Guardian in the UK, to the NY Times (all best, left leaning, I'd say) after the election stuff settles down. What's an even more critical international left-leaning newspaper? There's no major US newspaper way out on the left that I can think of - seems like a real opportunity for Berkeley (or UC, since UC remembers), for example.

Gonna have a looksee around for excellent web-based left-leaning newspapers that are gaining widespread traction among the NY Times' like-readers. World University and School now has two new newspapers, that generate so far their own content, which was a news' item itself in the last monthly business meeting announcement -

What radical papers are emerging in paper.li I wonder ?

Hi M,

Re giving up your "News" rituals post-election, and in terms of print media compared with video / TV, I think "Global Voices Online" - https://globalvoices.org - might interest you.

Kent!

Nice to see and talk with you again at Scottish Country Dancing in Berkeley.

It's so great you're studying for your Ph.D. in soil science in Freiburg.

Here above are all some of my long term emails, each with associated social media.
And here too are some CC MIT OCW soil courses that might interest you -

Soil Behavior

While as wiki, you or anyone could create a new "Soils" wiki subject (planned in many languages), there isn't one new - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Subjects (before we move to a new wiki emerging from Wikidata). And we might also add these courses to an Engineering subject page or http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Geology or http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University_Agriculture_School or http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Earth,_Atmospheric,_and_Planetary_Sciences - let's see how this plays out.

Very curious about how to set mind on eliciting loving bliss neurophysiology per Stanford's Alia Crum's STEM research on "Mindset"?

Loving bliss can be amazingly great neurophysiology brain-wise, but in terms of context or milieu or socially, I have in mind a kind of hippie, caring and pacifist kinds of loving bliss neurophysiology (in part - but what are loving bliss qualities of brain chemistry?).

To think of the world through the lens of individuals' neurophysiologies (especially since we don't have a read on this yet, scientifically, in terms of neuroscience) is fascinating and mind-expanding (especially when one goes beyond the 7 billion humans on the planet today to the 3 species of primates closest genetically to us, for example).

Hi Scott,

Greetings. Thanks for further connecting on Twitter recently (https://twitter.com/scottsantens).

I'm developing CC World University and School, which is like CC Wikipedia with CC MIT OpenCourseWare (in 7 languages) and CC Yale OpenYaleCourses. We seek to accredit on these best STEM CC OpenCourseWare to offer free online CC university and high school degrees - and in all countries' main and official languages. WUaS is also planning wiki schools in all 7,097 living languages for open teaching and learning. So World University and School is developing free, highest quality CC MIT OCW-centric and wiki universal education. WUaS plans to offer online Bachelor, Ph.D., Law and M.D. degrees as well as I.B high school degrees in all nation states' official languages.

I'm writing you about WUaS's planned online law schools (as well as computer science Bachelor and Ph.D. degrees) in every countries' official languages and basic universal income.

WUaS has been invited to be part of an informal panel at Stanford Law Codex - https://law.stanford.edu/codex-the-stanford-center-for-legal-informatics/ - probably in late January. WUaS would like also to explore helping code for bitcoin and the blockchain as well, and help facilitate institutionally these institutionally in terms of all nation states - and concerning planning for a basic universal income.

Would you have interest in being in on the Stanford Law Codex panel via video along with possibly a few other people involved with World University, and perhaps share a few sentences about basic universal income if the opportunity arises?

Again this would be very informal - and there might be other groups presenting as well.

In what ways might we explore these ideas further?

Best regards, Scott

Dear J.T.K. MD,

Great to talk just now, and thank you. Looking forward to further communication with J.H. MD, and D.R. MD, and others at Harvard Medical School re possible collaborations/partnering with the online Medical Schools and teaching hospitals at CC World University and School, planned in all countries' main and official languages.

Here are the Harvard Medical School online courses I was referring to -

https://hms.harvard.edu/education/continuing-education/online-cme-courses - which World University would like to explore building upon, to complement the CC MIT OpenCourseWare (in 7 languages) which is central to our startup university.

And here's the online Stanford Medicine online video, as a kind of kernel for an online teaching hospital (which again WUaS is planning in all countries' main languages) that I was referring to -

And here are CC MIT OpenCourseWare-centric and CC Yale OpenYaleCourses-centric beginning Medical Schools and teaching "Hospital" (not yet in other languages)

"World University Medical School" -

"Digital World Medical School" -

"Hospital" -

And here too is a related research page -

Creative Commons' licensed WUaS's business model partly involves seeking donations from all countries (per GDP?) for their online medical students along the lines of the $44,000+ per year it costs to go to Harvard or Stanford, for example.

Great to have met you at your Stanford Grand Rounds' talk recently, and wonderful too that you're Dr. R.R.'s internist. He's one of my and my family's oldest friends.

Thanks so much.

WUaS is partly Friendly/Quaker-informed and your having gone to Earlham (in physics) is also fascinating in these regards.

I mentioned meeting you twice to Dr. Dick Robb by email and am very glad you're Dick's internist, and that you know each other.

Thank you for your fascinating presentation!

Dear Prasanna,

Thank you for your email inviting me to send you, as Head of India World University and School, a short profile of World University and School, the work we do, and the free courses we offer. Thank you especially for your offer to try to get some grant monies and funding for WUaS. WUaS is planning to offer free online accrediting CC MIT OCW-centirc undergraduate education beginning in autumn 2017, first in English.

Classes will take place interactively in videoconferences (e.g. Google Hangouts, MIT UnHangouts, +), with WUaS hiring graduate students from great universities in many languages who are learning to become faculty.  WUaS plans to move into a new wiki emerging from Wikidata soon.

Here, for example, is India World University and School - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/India - not yet in Hindi or any of its other 21 official languages (again before World University moves to a new wiki emerging from Wikidata). If sensible, WUaS will seek to create online major universities for many of these official languages in India as well.

Here are the Creative Commons’ licensed courses we will offer, accredit upon, and build on to become the online “MIT/Harvard/Stanfords of the Internet” again potentially in all official languages in India:

MIT OpenCourseWare (about 2300 courses, both undergraduate and graduate)

MIT OpenCourseWare Translated Courses (currently with courses in 6 languages, but which are licensed to develop further into other languages)

https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/translated-courses/

Yale OpenYale Courses

Not only are MIT”s SLOAN School of Management’s courses available at CC MIT OpenCourseWare, but WUaS plans to offer online undergraduate and Ph.D. degrees in business focusing on the country’s language (s) in which they are offered.

In addition, World University seeks to create a Music School with courses for online Indian music and instruments, which will be interactive via group video.

And lastly, on the Wiki side (like Wikipedia), people can add the open free courses they know of, or develop, such that apart from the matriculated side, there will be open learning, and teaching, opportunities with many potential related courses, in any subject.

Thank you for this opportunity, and I look forward to hearing from you about funding and grant monies and possibilities in these regards.

With very best wishes,

Scott

Chemistry OR Biology: 5.111, 5.112, or 3.091 OR 7.012, 7.015, or 7.016
Physics I: 8.01, 8.01L, or 8.012
Physics II: 8.02, 8.022
Calculus I: 18.01, 18.01A-18.02A, or 18.014
Calculus II: 18.02 or 18.022
HASS, or Communication Intensive subject (CI-H or CI-HW)
Elective: Mission 20189 (9 unit pilot subject) or Seminar XL (3-6 units). These two subjects are the only exceptions to the Fall credit limit.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION: PE points do not count toward the credit limit

And if one were taking a kind of humanities' path for an accrediting CC MIT OpenCourseWare Bachelor degree in English beginning in 2017, I'd consider taking these 6 courses over the academic year -

Teaching College-Level Science and Engineering
Creating Video Games
Game Design
Engineering Ethics
Making Science and Engineering Pictures

But WUaS would really like to grow out of MIT OCW's five schools, with related first year coursework -

School of Architecture and Planning
School of Engineering
School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences
Sloan School of Management
School of Science

(I'm including links as references only).

The more WUaS dovetails with MIT & MIT OCW themselves, the more that WUaS's accreditation can work with MIT faculty and graduate student instructors for a great undergraduate MIT OpenCourseWare-centric education.

Would you agree, Larry (who went to MIT in science as an undergraduate)?

As you may know, Prasanna, WUaS has a 10% for fundraising expenses' letter - Letter of Agreement - Facilitation Resources to Board + friends - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1s_GBHW0gC1LPSbKNgwZz0_F2WVec_OgcWVK0WNtdkO0/edit?usp=sharing - which might interest you, and which I've attached. And WUaS is seeking to ask for donations along the lines of what it costs to go to MIT itself, so about $44,000 per year per student. Could various Indian governments and your friends help? Students will be studying from the comfort of their own homes, thus saving expenses for housing, travel, room and board +. (And it's expensive to live in Cambridge, MA, or Palo Alto for Stanford!)

Do you have specific students in mind who might be interested in these free WUaS CC MIT OCW online degrees?

With very best wishes,

Scott

Hi M,

"The Man Who Mistook His Wife For His Hat" (1985) is interesting in video (below) and story by neurologist and creative researcher Oliver Sacks ... and opens up the language and culture of psychology, psychiatry and even brain studies for me in new ways ...

Saw this English piano-playing savant along somehow related brain-studies' lines earlier today ... Derek Paravicini ...

I think the example here of Derek is fascinating re thinking about the brain as computer ... and British savant Derek Paravicini is also wonderful and warm as a person and pianist, and all vis-a-vis -

Derek above is a great model also of sociality in my thinking, and very English, (less so Italian re his last name), and his sociality and warmth are also examples for me to aspire to - but/and is specific to his British-ness too) ...

Ah the language and culture of psychology is opening ... and possibly liberating ...

Watch "The Man Who Mistook His Wife For His Hat" - and re your own brain questions, as well as vis-a-vis beginning to conceive of understanding what's happening in Derek's brain +

Here's the "The Man Who Mistook His Wife For His Hat" in video ...

The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat

Focusing one's brain (and re Derek Paravicini too - whose brain focuses in very specific ways, and doesn't in other ways at all) ... raises questions of agency (action or intentional causation for me).

In what ways could neural nets, placed on the head like a hat, be used to make a complete "read" of Derek's brain for, for example, what circuits do what musically and counting-wise, since he can't hold up the number of fingers he's asked to (after some decades)? Derek's brain differentiates music and counting and friendliness and connection with his piano tutor, nearly lifelong, in unique ways that provide a basis for understanding brain processes in human behavior.

Curious too where Reed College students would go with understanding and studying brain questions re Derek, in the context of a course on the brain.

Just trying to express some of this in language, and wondering how WUaS's students around the world could eventually study related questions for the comfort of their homes?

How to get further into benefits of the freedom of talking engaging psychology and psychological language?

And re Stanford Prof Alia Crum and MIT Prof Ed Boyden's research ...

One interesting thing about Derek Paravicini https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ak2jxmhCH1M (from 2010 from 60 Minutes) - have you had time to see this fascinating video clip? - is that

1) he seems very very happy, in the views of his life we see.

(In a way this is a model for a quality, or code even, of loving bliss for me).

Another fascinating thing is

2) his connection with his social tutor / teacher who seems to have been working with him since around age 5 or so. Derek has wonderful uniquely British social support - and this sociality and happiness are models for me in thinking about practicing.

These are part of the codes of his brain, complementing the piano playing.

How to incorporate this sociality, and happiness too, into online piano learning?

Biological neural network: Each time Piano savant Derek Paravicini does something a light bulb turns on is the way I think of it, Scientists probably know and could hypothesize pretty well about some of this, but "a read" on overall brain circuitry with a neural net hat some years in the future would be fascinating, How to apply such knowledge to learning to play and practice the piano, Like especially to extrapolate more about how this piano learning as social experience could work re Derek's sociality

The way I think of Piano savant Derek Paravicini - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ak2jxmhCH1M (from 2010 from 60 Minutes) is that each time he does something a light bulb turns on, or doesn't (e.g. play a tune, so light bulb on, then play a tune in ragtime style, another light bulb on).

It's like circuits in the brain which are nearly immediate.

When Derek can't hold up 3 fingers or say his age, the light bulb doesn't go on - maybe those circuits don't exist, and maybe they didn't develop even in utero ... since he was born 3 months early.

Scientists probably know and could hypothesize pretty well about some of this, but "a read" on overall brain circuitry with a neural net hat some years in the future would be fascinating (and even now for baseline). Now what would I like to know re feelings, meaning and significance in terms of planning for such read outs.

And how to apply such knowledge to learning to play and practice the piano (for people in general and for me, as well - find a long-term teacher per these Guidelines -  - and sit beside them)?

And I'd like especially to extrapolate more about how this piano learning as social experience could work re Derek's sociality too.
