Dear Universitians and friends,

Thank you for your support of World Univ & Sch. The financial reports for A) World University and School, and for the B) WUaS Corporation are unchanged from March 2019.

Please join us at our open (hour-long) World Univ & Sch @WorldUnivAndSch monthly business meeting this Saturday, May 18th, 2019, at 9 am Pacific Time, electronically, in a Google group video Hangout or Livestream Email info@worlduniversityandschool.org if interested in joining!

World University's open monthly business meeting Agenda for May 18th, 2019

The next WUaS Monthly Business Meeting will meet on the 3rd / THIRD Saturday of the month, on June 15th, 2019.

Sincerely, Scott

- Languages - World Univ - https://twitter.com/sgkmacleod/

World University and School's monthly business meeting tomorrow morning in a new format (live streaming).

1 World University and School, with regards to licensing with the state of California's Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education received the green light for this by attending the BPPE day long workshop on February 20, 2019, and received a  further BPPE 'green light' email in an email from BPPE on April 22, 2019, and is proceeding with licensing (leading to accreditation).

2 Unfortunately, the $250,000 National Science Foundation award that WUaS thought World University and School was granted - since WUaS heard about this in January, and with this information went ahead and successfully procured a DUNS number from D&B (in NYC) as a next step in the funding process - has not come through, per a communication on April 30, 2019 from our Program Administrator at the NSF - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/05/rhododendron-arboreum-flower-of-nepal.html.
WUaS had budgeted part of these monies for the initial BPPE fee, and part of these monies for accreditation potentially with WASC senior, and some of these monies to hire graduate student instructors to teach 'sections' online in group video conferencing to the best STEM CC-4 OpenCourseWare (OCW) faculty in video.

This has been a major setback in a number of ways, but especially with regards to initial BPPE licensing.

3 World University and School is seeking further collaboration with Stanford Law and Stanford Medicine in all 200 countries' official / main languages for something like best STEM OpenCourseWare - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/05/common-blackbird-eggs-to-stanfords-john.html - and in particular is in communication about this with Stanford Chair and Professor of Medicine Robert Harrington MD, and Stanford Law Lecturer Roland Vogl.

4 Live interactive participatory Hangouts on Air for World University and School continue to meet on Mondays at 10 am Pacific Time in Google group video Hangouts for your idea, your questions, and what you'd like to share - https://www.youtube.com/user/WorldUnivandSch - with announcements here, for example - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1129458984501407744 - and directly to your inbox if you'd like. Here's a recent example where a new Stanford friend joins in after 8 minutes - https://youtu.be/NOxwl55hz9c - in text.

5 Another more recent Live Hangout on Air:

Paeonia lactiflora: Languages of China, having heard there are 8 language family groups, and many more languages (mutual intelligibility being one definition) * * * Would all of you like to further found China World University and School together and online? * * An online China Law School at World University - - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/China_Law_School_at_WUaS - and out of the Stanford Law China Guiding Cases Project

Dear Mei, Scott, Jie, Prashant Hongbin, Mingwei and All,

Mei - what an excellent Stanford "Education Equity in China in a Global Context" - https://events.stanford.edu/events/838/83803/ &  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2019-epic-china-education-forum-tickets-60690755684. Thanks for your excellent presentations and contributions. And nice to meet you. Mei, and Hongbin, could we explore together developing an online China Law School at World University - - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/China_Law_School_at_WUaS - and out of the Stanford Law China Guiding Cases Project - https://law.stanford.edu/china-guiding-cases-project/ - or which you're the director, Mei, in addition to online MIT OCW-centric Bachelor and Ph.D. degrees, all in traditional Chinese language and online?

And are you all familiar with MIT OCW in traditional Chinese - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/translated-courses/traditional-chinese/ as well as MIT OCW high school, not yet in Chinese - https://ocw.mit.edu/high-school/ - but both with remarkable math and STEM potential degree potential?

In speaking with Teacher Jie Li after the panel discussion, and with regard to reaching out to rural populations, I asked here about the languages of China, having heard there are 8 language family groups, and many more languages (mutual intelligibility being one definition; whom else if anyone is working on this, I wonder?). All of this is relevant with regard to your last great presentations and panel on equity and efficiency re the Chinese college entrance exam, in so many ways.  (By the way, CC-r MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School is seeking to create online wiki schools in all known living languages - 7111 living languages emerging from here - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages - and as wiki subject pages in these languages, people could add the Chinese languages' teaching resources that schools, governments, organizations and individual coders might creatively generate, but these would also be platforms for MIT OCW-centric curriculum at all levels. WUaS seeks also to facilitate the development, with time, of avatar bot teachers - emerging out of chat bot AI / machine learning technologies - and explicitly eventually in multiple languages. This would be a way to reach out to rural populations and not only in the Chinese languages, but in many, if not all, of Chinese languages).

One question I wondered about further is how to develop curriculum for K-8 students emerging out of MIT OCW teachings, and esp. from Stanford Education, and with regards to "Transforming K-12 Education" - https://openlearning.mit.edu/beyond-campus/transforming-k-12-education.

And in a related vein, how might the Scratch drag and drop programming language, with Lego Robotics, help kids to learn coding in China and Robotics in the Chinese language from a young age even? (See letter to Christina Weiland below).

Prashant and all, with regards to studying online STEM and mathematics learning with regards to Scratch drag and drop programming language, I'm posting below an email I sent to a recent Stanford Ed speaker, Univ of Michigan Professor Christine Weiland (on May 16) - https://events.stanford.edu/events/838/83867/ .

And further World University and School as major online CC-4 MIT OCW-centric universities and high schools in all ~200 countries' official and main languages, planning Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, M.D. and I.B. degrees, is a remarkable opportunity for China re planned online Medical Schools and online teaching hospitals partly in a realistic virtual earth (for tele-robotic surgery, genetic engineering, and Electronic Medical Records / Health Insurance) there - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Medical_School and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Hospital - in these regards (emerging potentially out of Stanford Medicine / Law OpenCourseCourse or similar, - since MIT has neither a Medical nor a Law School) - and CC-4 MIT OCW is in 5 languages to begin - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/translated-courses/. With free-to-students' degrees, Chinese would get MIT for free (in a sense - since WUaS would seek reimbursement from all ~200 countries' Ministries of Education per student per year, and re Stanford's tuition). WUaS is currently waiting to begin accreditation with the CA BPPE - https://twitter.com/CaBPPE/status/1024666814989488134 (and then WASC senior). And World Univ & Sch is a A) non-profit, and incorporated as a forked parallel second legal entity, the WUaS Press / Corp, a B) for-profit general stock company, in 2017, two further great opportunities - both planned in all ~200 countries and in all 7,111 living languages with machine learning and machine translation.

Would all of you like to further found China World University and School together and online?

All the Best, Scott

Re Scratch and Scratch Jr ...
Dear Christina,

Thanks for your talk and the great research you presented yesterday - https://events.stanford.edu/events/838/83867/ - and nice to meet you. (Did you enjoy Dartmouth and Harvard?) I greatly appreciate your rigorous research in many ways.

In a brainstorming fashion, my question could be modified to inquire if you could substitute Scratch Jr drag and drop programming language - https://www.media.mit.edu/projects/scratchjr/overview/ & - https://www.scratchjr.org/ from MIT Media Lab for 5-7 year olds for the math curriculum you studied, and then begin to study samples in multiple Boston schools / 'jurisdictions' online, since Scratch is much online any way? (Further related STEM studies with Lego Robotics such as WeDo 2.0 and Mindstorms EV3 and even both actually and virtually, physically and digitally in something like Google Street View, with Brick Street View, where the brick in this 'hack' from about 2014 refers to Lego bricks, and may develop in upcoming years in a realistic virtual earth like Google Streetview / Maps / Earth / TensorFlow +).

We could create a wiki subject page at World University and School like - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Clinical_Trials_at_WUaS_(for_all_languages) (check out the MIT OCW eventually for credit, in multiple languages, accessible from https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects - with many other wiki subjects having many more MIT OCW courses).

I'm including below the email I just shared with many people about World University and School' open monthly business meeting below, for your interest. May I add you to the monthly business meeting email list?

Nice to meet and talk with you.

Sincerely, Scott

Dear Hongbin and All,

Re your interesting research on twins in China, here too is the "Twin Studies"' wiki subject page at World Univ & Sch - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Twin_Studies (and check out the MIT OCW courses here in many of these open scalable wiki subjects at WUaS - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects - which will eventually be for credit, to get an idea further of how World Univ & Sch will work in Chinese too).

And could you possibly please forward this email to Peking University Professors Wen Hai and Changjun Yue since I got a bounce back from cjyue@pku.edu

I also got a bounce back from Teacher Jie Li's email, so if someone knows an email that works for her, could you please forward this email to her as well, and to Wesley Chu and others too.

I'm also adding to this email thread Stanford MD Professor Dr. Chih-Hung Jason Wang - https://profiles.stanford.edu/chih-hung-wang - who went to MIT as an undergraduate, and is focusing on developing hospital technologies in a startup company.

If China WUaS were to have the resources, WUaS would love to begin hiring for summer internship academic jobs online, and all of you could list being the co-founders of China World University and School https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/China - in these regards as well.

Thank you, Scott

Hi Tianyu,

Thanks! I had emailed you and about 20 other conference attendees the following two emails earlier today, and received 2 bounce backs as you'll see below, but none from you, so am not sure why you didn't get these emails. (Perhaps someone with Google screened these for Stanford related students??? an hypothesis, and don't really know). So thanks for contacting me and good to hear from you. And sounds good. Any specific questions?

Regards, and I hope to email everyone soon again. Please let me know if you happen to receive an email with the group if possible.

Dear Larry,

Here's the further 'green light' email from BPPE's Dianne Arechiga from April 22, 2019 (after the Feb 20, 2019 9 - 4:30 BPPE workshop).

Also here's the first online Ph.D. degree I've ever seen offered, and from the University of Southern California (which has been accredited by WASC senior since 1949), and which means WASC senior now knows how to accredit online Ph.D.s:

"USC has been accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) since March 6, 1949. WASC is one of six regional accrediting organizations recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. ... Maybe the Office of the Provost at Stanford could take on some of these accreditation burdens re World University and School, since they're experienced, and have a team (and so WUaS could come out of Stanford further too).

Sincerely, Scott

Hi Josheena, and Jitka,

Thanks for your great Stanford talks "Africa Table: CAS Summer Research Fellows Present on Marine Protected Areas and Water Delivery" - https://events.stanford.edu/events/840/84007/ . I've only been to Mauritius once, and found it very beautiful. Let's also stay in touch about data, Mauritius and MPAs re your talk especially per Q&A and our conversation afterward. And let's stay in touch too, Jitka, about Uganda WUaS - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Uganda. World University and School is like Wikipedia in ~300 languages with CC-4 MIT OCW in 5 languages. And let's stay in touch too about Mauritius World University and School, eventually accessible from here - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States .

Let's also stay in touch about a realistic virtual earth for MPAs (and re marine archaeological robotics even), and Uganda water systems and water delivery!

(With regards too to my actual-virtual ethnographic field site),
here's what I have in mind by a 3D interactive VR realistic virtual universe / earth and at the atomic / cellular levels in something like Google Street View with TIME SLIDER / Maps / Earth / Translate +++ : Visit the Harbin Hot Springs' gate here, and "walk""4 miles" down the road to "amble" around Middletown, CA: http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~

Looking forward to having coffee potentially in June, Josheena.

Am thinking that these Google video 'depth predictions' will eventually go into Google Streetview with time slider / Earth, and then be usable with Lego Robotics too (re Brick Streetview), both actually and virtually, physically and digitally ...

kinda wild ...

Am wondering about sleeping in my car on a quiet SE Portland street near yours (since World Univ & Sch hasn't become financially operational yet) and showering in the Reed Gym ... do you think there would be any problems with this?

All the best, Scotty

[Air-L] New book: Privacy and Identity in a Networked Society: Refining Privacy Impact Assessment

Stefan (and AoIR),

Congratulations on the publication of "Privacy and Identity in a Networked Society. Refining Privacy Impact Assessment" -

Am curious how such questions will inform the development of a realistic virtual earth / universe, and at the cellular and atomic levels too. (Am thinking Google Streetview with time slider / maps / earth / tensor flow and which is also wiki where we could all add our own video into such a realistic virtual earth, and this would become integrated into the whole +). See too this recent "depth prediction" Tweet from Google - https://twitter.com/GoogleAI/status/1131615568753115136 (and in this related blog post - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/05/redtail-sharkminnow-3-books-at-reed.html).

Stanford - Launch Event for The Chinese Deathscape Digital Project

Dear Tom, (and David and Glen, whom Tom mentioned as central to this project),

Thanks for your excellent "Launch Event for The Chinese Deathscape Digital Project" - https://events.stanford.edu/events/833/83388/ - and brilliant work and I.T. platform. The question I approximately asked: how a Chinese scholar on your project might add a smartphone photo, say of a map (in Chinese) at the museum of the Xi'an Terracotta Warriors as a kind of mausoleum even, to your platform is interesting potentially for your colleagues and other students who might seek to extend the parameters of your project with time, or come into conversation with it. If such a photographer/scholar/student could also then geo-rectify this, and then subsequently overlay this with other geo-rectified maps and compare, - your data on related projects would also grow significantly with time.

(For example, with regards to my actual-virtual ethnographic field site with many parallels to your project, I added this 2001 photo of the Harbin gate house around 2009 to Google Street View here - https://www.google.com/maps/place/Harbin+Hot+Springs/@38.7860806,-122.6518315,3a,109.6y,90t/data=!3m8!1e2!3m6!1sAF1QipOR33JEA3qzAchuAOEFPss-U_w6cXPc-OsiNgSE!2e10!3e12!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipOR33JEA3qzAchuAOEFPss-U_w6cXPc-OsiNgSE%3Dw203-h153-k-no!7i576!8i436!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xde57c3ab0ecaa2c9!8m2!3d38.7860806!4d-122.6518315 - as an example of what could get very involved machine learning-wise if people were many maps, or even adding video of maps in your project). And I'll welcome people to add photos to a realistic virtual Harbin in Google Streetview (outside the Harbin gate, since Harbin doesn't allow photos on property, but also welcome people to add drawings of Harbin's pool area to this realistic virtual Harbin; see ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~).

And in asking after your talk at the podium about even re-conceiving the book, re your comments that the book isn't dead, please see this blog entry - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/12/leaf-re-conceiving-book-printable-on.html).

As we talked about coming down the Rumsey Maps' Center stairs, I'm also interested in facilitating a realistic virtual earth for everything - and particularly for developing a realistic virtual Harbin Hot Springs for actual-virtual, physical-digital ethnographic comparison, STEM research (including brain research), and at the cellular and atomic levels too, and with regard too to a new social science method I'm calling ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy. But after hearing your presentation, I'm also curious about a related approach one might newly call historio-wiki-virtual-world-graphy, where people might wiki-add historical data to an emergent realistic virtual earth (am thinking Google Streetview / Maps / Earth / Tensorflow, Translate + and with avatar bots) . What I appreciate much about your approach, Tom, is that you circumscribe your project, platform, map-URL-citation-approach and book project for scholars, as a way to both generate questions, and ask them as well, - but also in a way which is potentially in a network of people you trust (I think - is this correct?).

And re adding further photos of maps, photos of people and even graves (and even corpses re your Chinese project) and also potentially videos of this, which could conceivably be integrated into the whole realistic virtual earth, here's the Google AI video "Our depth predictions" link I mentioned - https://twitter.com/GoogleAI/status/1131615568753115136 (with a related Tweet about emergent scholarly approaches to privacy - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1131647658815176705 - and in a realistic virtual earth), with many implications for machine learning, privacy and a Google-centric realistic virtual earth.

In what ways might we explore further collaboration re possibly exploring making interoperable your map platform, which seems to be quite Google-centric, with creating a realistic virtual earth for related question-generating and new approaches to historical data and evidence (and re creating a realistic virtual Harbin, and explicitly developing a platform for ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy, and potentially newly for historio-wiki-virtual-world-graphy, which wouldn't interfere with your current great work, but which might eventually provide more helpful data for your projects)?

(And out of curiosity, how do you conceive of the Information age re the title of your book - "Radical Machines: Chinese in the Information Age" (https://profiles.stanford.edu/thomas-mullaney) and in your upcoming "The Chinese Computer: A Global History of the Information Age" (https://history.stanford.edu/people/tom-mullaney). I'm a bit Manuel Castells' focused in these regards (re a course I teach).

Thank you so much for your great talk and work, and very nice to meet you. (Greetings too David and Glen!). PS: below you'll find an email to Nicole Hu, a brilliant Stanfordian working in a similar space.

All the best, Scott

April 25, 2019

Hi Nicole,

Thanks for your excellent talk yesterday. And very nice to meet you after your inspiring Stanford Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders' presentation  - https://events.stanford.edu/events/831/83194. In asking about a realistic virtual earth for geology, with machine learning, and a realistic virtual earth for hydrology, and for atmospheric sciences, I'm wondering too how these will all inter-operate. And how could this best be helpful for cities planning digital mapping for emergency-preparedness? So thanks for your response in the Q&A that a realistic virtual earth for natural sciences is a good idea, and even potentially re:

14.5 billion years of the universe @ ATOMIC, cellular & street view levels re MODELING a SINGLE #RealisticVirtualEarth #RealisticVirtualUniverse & 3.5 billion years of life with 3-100 million species. Beginning w #PhysicalDigital tele-robotic brain surgery & even re testing in space ships?
https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1121504555840106496 .

Asked in Machine Learning for Cosmology Stanford talk, in seeking to facilitate a #RealisticVirtualUniverse for EVERYTHING, how ML for Physics would interoperate w Chemistry ML, Biology ML. He suggested focusing on ML for Physics, then to 'parameterize' Disciplines' ignoranceshttps://twitter.com/scottmacleod/status/1119007566816661511
Soft robotics for oceanography COOL! https://twitter.com/Harvard/status/1025039770961903616 … Let's let our students explore, innovate & research further from home with Lego robotics - developing #SoftRobotics & #SoftLegoRobotics, 3D Printers & in a #RealisticVirtualHarbin - @HarbinBook >https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Robotics ~
https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1025043303597625345
See the related #Hashtags above in Twitter for furthering thinking about this.

Am also interested in exploring how to create a realistic virtual Harbin Hot Springs (my actual-virtual, ethnographic field site) for physical-digital comparative ethnographic /social science & STEM research, and in particular, such that people and researchers could add their own data (eg photos, video, simulations, etc.) to this, and to a related realistic virtual earth via a new STEM & social science method I'm calling ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy.

How best too to make realistic virtual Harbin attractive to visit online for soaking especially, like visiting actual Harbin, is a fascinating question, which I'd love to talk further with you about, as well. I think give in your great talk that you'd have great ideas for this.
In developing MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School, with major universities planned for online free-to-students' university/high school degrees in each of all 200 countries' languages - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States (see too /Subjects) - am curious how faculty and students and STEM researchers could all further help develop this realistic virtual universe.

Here's what I have in mind by a 3D interactive realistic virtual universe / earth and at the atomic / cellular levels in something like Google Street View with TIME SLIDER / Maps / Earth / Translate +++ : Visit the Harbin Hot Springsgate here, and "walk""4 miles" down the road to "amble" around Middletown, CA: http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~

Am particularly interested in Google Street View's relationship here with BRICK Street View (re Lego bricks) and re Lego Robotics with Scratch 3.0 for developing eventually this realistic virtual earth for robotics and design - and eventually for emergency preparedness. Cities might find great value in this (and re education too).

Thanks again for your brilliant inspiring Stanford entrepreneurial talk.

Here's the "Custodians of the Internet: PLATFORMS, CONTENT MODERATION, AND THE HIDDEN DECISIONS THAT SHAPE SOCIAL MEDIA" Harvard Law talk by Tarleton Gillespie I mentioned - https://cyber.harvard.edu/events/2018-10-30/custodians-internet - which may help us further see how "moderation should change how we understand what platforms are" and with regard to constitutional questions.

I've added below too some beginning wiki CC-4 MIT OCW-centric World University and School online law schools - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Law_School - planned in each of all ~200 countries' main languages where WUaS faculty I hope will be able to teach about questions of free speech, for example.

All the best,
Scott

Dear Brett,
(Professor Brett Millier of Middlebury College in Vermont
http://www.middlebury.edu/academics/enam/faculty/node/41101),

Thanks so much for your inspiring presentation and reading of Adrienne Rich's poetry at Stanford on May 23rd - "Adrienne Rich: A Celebration of Her Poems" ... https://events.stanford.edu/events/833/83335/ - and very nice to talk with you afterwards. I greatly appreciate your observation that Adrienne Rich's poetry is an "unique lyric voice," and a voice that “demands belief.” I first read Rich's amazing "Diving into the Wreck: Poems 1971-1972" (1973) at Reed College as a student in the early 1980s. And thank you for asking to see 2 or 3 of my poems, after your moving and erudite presentations. Exciting to learn that you write poetry too, and it could be potentially interesting to explore publishing a collection of these in the Poetry Press at World University and School. Would you be open to sharing 2 or 3 poems of yours with me?

All 3 of my books are Harbin Hot Springs-informed, and inspired too, and my first large "Naked Harbin Ethnography:

Hippies, Warm Pools, Counterculture, Clothing-Optionality & Virtual Harbin" also has a few poems in it, but it is an actual-virtual ethnography (~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~).

I'm sharing with you 3 poems from my most recent book of poetry, "Winding Road Rainbow: Harbin, Wandering & the Poetry of Loving Bliss" -

Winding Road … and something like poetry came to me / 12

In the night I traveled north to Harbin / 17

The Poetry Commune at Berkeley / 93

Do you know of any poetry which focuses explicitly on the generation of loving bliss neurophysiology, by any chance? :)

Both of my poetry books, if you click through the initial pages, were also published in the Poetry Press at World University & School -

Winding Road Rainbow: Harbin, Wandering & the Poetry of Loving Bliss
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0578435187

Haiku~ish: and Other, Loving, Hippy, Harbin Poetry
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0692049037

And am planning to publish my 3rd book of poetry this autumn as well. Please let me know if you might be interested in publishing in the Poetry Press at World Univ & Sch, Brett.

It was very nice to hear, meet and talk with you. Thank you.

Best regards, Scott

Stanford Law -- 'FREE SPEECH AND THE INTERNET'

Doug and All,

As a follow up, these are approximately the questions I asked you after your "The Monopoly Problem" panel:

1
If Google's TensorFlow hypothetically could be coded to deliver a daily stock price for each of all companies that used it, and in each of all ~206 countries (per 2016 Olympics) and in their official languages - thinking internationally re anti-trust, free speech and the internet - and if the WUaS Press / Corp could hypothetically, and as an example re other countries, list itself on each of all of these stock exchanges in all countries (that had them, particularly the nascent ones in Africa for example), what implications would there be for anti-trust law for Google TensorFlow Stock Price Generator in America? (The WUaS Press seeks to explore being listed this way on all ~200 stock exchanges, if possible, re learning how this is done). And if Stanford Law faculty / the World University and School online law schools' faculties in each nation states' language could teach courses to companies about how to list their companies on this hypothetical TensorFlow daily stock price generator on all stock exchanges, what implications would that have for Google as a platform re the questions you were all addressing at the Stanford Law "Free Speech and the Internet" conference on Friday and Saturday?

(As a preamble to 2: and in a related vein, at a key coding moment for WUaS, when we'd like to code and make interoperable our "front end" WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Law_School - with our "back end" Wikidata / Wikibase (in Wikipedia's ~300 languages), for example - https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q8012895 - which is the Q item for Stanford Law School - and see too https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Identifiers) - but focus on planning to code for wiki schools in each all 7,111 known living languages, World University and School would also like to explore coding for all 7.5 billion people on the planet in all ~200 countries. If WUaS could do this, could WUaS also facilitate Universal Basic Income experiments in each of all ~200 countries?)

2
And World University and School seeks too to facilitate via our law schools' faculties teaching about a single cryptocurrency (am following the the MIT DCI - https://twitter.com/mitDCI -and the Director of the MIT DCI, Neha Narula, in these regards -

https://twitter.com/neha/status/1132737827282800642) with blockchain ledger backed by some number of all ~200 countries' central banks (am thinking the Euro in 19 out of 28 EU countries, but not yet a digital currency), and even to explore distributing this via Universal Basic Income experiments (much like the state of California's UBI experiment with Stockton California residents, and Finland's - so a state-citizen relationship), - and perhaps via Google Plus (Ted Ulliyot). What implications would this and the above have for 'platform, free speech and the internet questions re Google,' and potentially with regards to Stanford / WUaS Law Faculties teaching the law about this?

All the best, Scott

Stanford - Fighting to End Hunger at Home & Abroad: Ambassador Cousin shares her journey & lessons learned

Dear Ertharin,

Thanks for your excellent and "Fighting to End Hunger at Home & Abroad: Ambassador Cousin shares her journey & lessons learned" talk -
https://events.stanford.edu/events/839/83924/ - and very nice to meet and talk with you afterward. What are the name and email of the person you mentioned?

In asking about combining strategies to end hunger with, for example, existing successes, and with Universal Basic Income experiments (and related cash to refugees in large camps of around 300,000 people in East Africa, which I learned about at Stanford, for example), what is this history thus far? I ask in the context of developing MIT OCW-centric (in its 5 languages) wiki World University and School (where Wikipedia is in 300 languages), and in ~200 countries' languages, and in each of all 7,111 known living languages as wiki schools for open teaching and learning.

At a key coding moment for World University and School, when WUaS would like to code and make interoperable our "front end" WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Poverty_Action (and check out the MIT OCW here, which will eventually be for credit for online free-to-students' university and high school degrees, in each of all ~200 countries' languages; see too: https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects) - with our "back end" Wikidata / Wikibase (in Wikipedia's ~300 languages) - https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14686399 (which is "Second Harvest North Florida"'s Q-item) - WUaS is planning to code for wiki schools in each of all 7,111 known living languages, and World University and School would also like to explore coding at the same time for all 7.5 billion people on the planet in all ~200 countries. If WUaS can do this, WUaS also seeks facilitate Universal Basic Income experiments in each of all ~200 countries, and in all 7,111 known living languages. In the process WUaS would seek via this technology and data (including too in a realistic virtual earth) to plan to address food shortage issues, and potentially in combination with Universal Basic Income experiments. In a related vein, WUaS seeks to facilitate for a single cryptocurrency with blockchain ledger, backed by some number of ~200 countries' central banks (think the Euro in 19 out of 28 countries).

This may also be part of developing online Medical Schools with online Teaching Hospitals for online clinical care (for free-to-students' online medical degrees) in each of all ~200 countries' main languages, emerging out of something like Stanford Medicine OpenCourseWare or similar, and even "Avatar Bot electronic  health records" for all 7.5 billion people.
How might we best communicate further about Fighting to End Hunger at Home & Abroad and re all 821 million people with both planning for food as well as currency, Ertharin?

Thanks so much for your excellent talk today, and nice to meet you.

All the best, Scott

Hi Tanya, (and Larry),

Glad you came to the WUaS Live Hangout on Air on Monday (https://youtu.be/w2dbmlLSTcM), thanks for the update and glad too you're interested in exploring doing a Ph.D. at World University and School. Beginning around 1:20, you talk about the classes you've done so far, and more.

You might enjoy this article "M. Amah Edoh on Creating a Supportive Academic Culture" - https://mitopencourseware.wordpress.com/2019/05/28/m-amah-edoh-on-creating-a-supportive-academic-culture/ - which I found here -

https://twitter.com/MITOCW/status/1133422369593151488 - and re MIT Assistant Professor of African Studies M. Amah Edoh - https://mitgsl.mit.edu/people/faculty-and-emeriti/m-amah-edoh - who seems to have a degree in a MIT OCW Ph.D. area you expressed interest in in pursuing, MIT's Program in (History, Anthropology, and) Science, Technology, and Society (HASTS) ... that is, S.T.S.
 - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/science-technology-and-society/ - and where Stanford has a related program - https://sts.stanford.edu/ (but does not yet offer a Ph.D., it looks like, only a Bachelor's degree).

Glad too you're interested in having teachers for your 2 remaining World University and School undergraduate business degree B.A. MIT OCW-centric courses in which I just found, brainstorming-wise, the following 8 specializations - https://www.aiuniv.edu/degrees/business/articles/8-types-of-business-degree-specializations-you-can-pursue -

Business Management Degree Specialization

Finance Degree Specialization

Marketing Degree Specialization

Entrepreneurship Degree Specialization

International Business Degree Specialization

Human Resource Management Degree Specialization

Operations Management Degree Specialization

Project Management Degree Specialization

As World Univ & Sch proceeds with first licensing with the state of California's BPPE (Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education), then accreditation with WASC, WUaS will keep in mind some of these potentials as educational opportunities ahead for you and many other interested and prospective students. Thanks!

Again, nice to see you in the WUaS Live Hangout on Air.

Cheers, Scott

Hi Tanya and Larry,

Per this article on "M. Amah Edoh on Creating a Supportive Academic Culture" - https://mitopencourseware.wordpress.com/2019/05/28/m-amah-edoh-on-creating-a-supportive-academic-culture/  ...

'Course Planning

Every academic course has a central topic or idea, but Professor Edoh emphasizes that the instructor should also consider what the central question is, so that the course can be an exploration rather than a mere transfer of information:
“It’s crucial to be clear on what the core issue is, what the question is that animates this class….As long as the core question is clear, you can tailor the building blocks to your interests.”'

Am curious how best with the "Society, Information Technology and the Global University" course - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html - which you took at World University and School (with its focus too on economics, which is in a related field to 'business'), and which asks:

What is information technology, broadly conceived? How did it develop? Who did it? What has been the process of diffusion into the economy and society? How and why did the Network Society take shape? In this course, we’ll analyze the interaction between society and contemporary information technologies, in a multicultural and comparative perspective. In doing so, we’ll examine what data and evidence are in the social sciences, how they are used, and how they are interpreted. We'll also explore how this informs the development of wiki MIT OCW-centric World University and School:

~ wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org

... how best to extend this question / these questions in new ways, in further courses, and at wiki World University and School (all of which may partly inform this whole unfolding university and schools in many languages and countries now online). How best also to create not only a supportive creative academic environment (something MIT isn't necessarily known for) ... and also newly a supportive CREATIVE COMPUTING environment - https://twitter.com/hashtag/creativecomputing?src=hash - one definition of which is here -

Golden everlasting: Stanford - Tejaswini Niranjana: Subjectivity and Sociality in Mumbai's Musicophilia

Dear Tejaswini,

thanks for your inspiring research - https://events.stanford.edu/events/818/81834/ - and Stanford talk just now.

Am curious to stay in touch about exploring anthropologically and ethnographically specific kinds of Hindustani-music musicophilia (ecstatic, loving bliss neurochemistry?) on the ground in Mumbai, for example, as well as potentially virtually in a realistic virtual Mumbai / realistic virtual earth (am thinking Google Streetview with Time Slider / Maps / Earth), where we could add, for example, the two videos you shared, and even re Google AI - https://twitter.com/GoogleAI/status/1131615568753115136 - and machine learning. (See too the Tweets at the top of this WUaS Twitter feed - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarth?src=hash). In what ways could we begin to explore in the “What breath control” video, questions of specific individual's unique musicophilias (and even re all kinds of qualities of 'affective states')?

Am doing and am interested in doing further related ethnographic work with regards to ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - and with regards to my actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' project and even with brain research re questions of 'Subjectivity and Sociality in Mumbai's Musicophilia' ... and socially online (and even re questions of the Harbin Hot Springs' warm pool and potentially musicophilia and more).

How might we best communicate further about this?

Thank you again for your far-reaching interests and focus.

Thank you,
Scott

P.S.

And to show how we can all add data to this ginormous multimedia project, I added this photo of the Harbin gate house to Google Street View here - https://www.google.com/maps/place/Harbin+Hot+Springs/@38.7860806,-122.6518315,3a,109.6y,90t/data=!3m8!1e2!3m6!1sAF1QipOR33JEA3qzAchuAOEFPss-U_w6cXPc-OsiNgSE!2e10!3e12!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipOR33JEA3qzAchuAOEFPss-U_w6cXPc-OsiNgSE%3Dw203-h153-k-no!7i576!8i436!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xde57c3ab0ecaa2c9!8m2!3d38.7860806!4d-122.6518315 - as an example of what could get very involved machine learning-wise if people were adding video of all kinds of musicophilia.

Red trillium: Wiki-Libraries in 7,111 known living languages, building out from Wikidata's (Wikipedia's) 300 languages?, Wikidata Q-item ex. for Dawkin's "An Appetite for Wonder," How students can add books

$

0

Hi Hilary,

Thanks for your email. And thanks for the opportunity to give a 5 minute presentation on World University and School Libraries at the close of the Wikidata Affinity Group June 18th meeting (and also re our donation of World University and School to Wikidata as "back end" for co-development in 2015, and getting the WUaS MediaWiki "front end" in 2017, but which aren't yet linked).

Glad too to talk with Regina a little about the Wikidata Affinity Group, Hilary. We talked before an amazing Tibetan Buddhist art presentation with 50 Gigabyte photos on that incredible 16 panel wall size screen in the Rumsey Maps Center - https://arts.stanford.edu/event/83273/.

I mentioned to Regina how Q-items are a basic unit of Wikidata (and Linked Open Data re your LD4 grant), and how we've linked a few open free online libraries + here - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Library_Resources (which is an example of the WUaS MediaWiki "front end") - and how this will easily grow into each of all ~300 of Wikipedia's / Wikimedia's / Wikidata's languages. And WUaS seeks to grow further into each of all 7,111 known living languages, and people will be able to wiki create new related Library wiki SUBJECT pages at WUaS (https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects) as well (so these WUaS Library Resources' pages may well grow into the 1000s+ and differentially in each of all of Wikipedia's ~300 languages early on). Also mentioned how great it would be if, say, Stanford students traveling to their academic field sites worldwide could add videos or photos, for example, of whole books (not copyrighted) to such libraries. (Not sure how all of this will articulate with a universal translator with machine translation are re an academic press for both poetry - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1133107632275746816 - and STEM, for example, either; also not sure how 7111 languages will fit in with Wikidata/Wikimedia's lexicographical project as data (or "back end") either, and re a universal translator, conceptually like Google Translate).

Here's an example of a book and its Q-item, and is potentially a model for WUaS Libraries' as well for individual books (not necessarily in Wikipedia, but in new ways) ...
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q13107558 (Check out Chinese and Spanish at the top here, and which are WUaS's pilot languages, in our très multi-lingual WUaS project). (Not yet sure how WikiCite will fit in here either).

Am interested in WUaS facilitating and making it easy for a student, or a traveling scholar, to add a book in photo, or video, or a map eg https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/05/flying-gurnard-stanford-launch-event.html ...

Thanks and looking forward to the June 4th Meeting with Christine and Marc at Harvard, and to communicate further about this WUaS presentation.

Thanks, Scott
 - but may not explore on June 18th anything about Wikdiata Affinity Group libraries at the cellular and atomic levels for brain science, for example.
Thank you.

Re: How students can add books +

Hi Kai,

How are you? I hope this finds you very well! I just heard Gary Snyder talk at Stanford on Wednesday - https://arts.stanford.edu/event/83336/ - and was touched once again. He's so clear and articulate at 89 years of age. (This talk, with two other people in it, should be available for free on iTunes soon -

Am heading to the Reed Reunion (June Th6/ F7/ Sa8) and would love to come visit you as I zigzag my way north. Will you be around on Wednesday, June 5th - perhaps in a new home, deeper into northern California worlds? Might it be a good time to connect? And might you head to the Reed reunion too? (Lodging at Reed I just found out is $50 for all 3 nights). I can offer you a ride north, but am heading to eastern Oregon afterward to visit family, so can't offer you a ride south.

Will be bringing now 3 books to the Reed Marketplace -
https://twitter.com/HarbinBook/status/1131612072754573312 - on Saturday, all in the WUaSPress. Am currently licensing World Univ & Sch with the state of California's BPPE and WUaS is seeking to have our 2nd online undergraduate class begin potentially even this autumn.

Orleans looks really beautiful ~

Warm regards, Scott

Hi M,

Following up on this Robot Vacuum idea in this acquisition thread:

Samsung Robot Vacuum could be a good acquisition for Cuttyhunk even now, albeit a bit expensive ... (and I haven't seen a comparative Consumer Reports review with other vacuums)

My place would be so good for a robot vacuum from Samsung (per Consumer Reports), but waiting for them to add water for mopping too! :)

Samsung Robot Vacuum idea (which top CR lists) and which could work pretty well in my place in a few years https://youtu.be/g4qx6SY_Mig I can imagine 'Lego Robotics' builds playing w these. Waiting for WATER https://twitter.com/rumble_rum/status/1131626810398171136 & https://twitter.com/BAM_Knows/status/1097204942438363136& https://twitter.com/PrudentReviews/status/880770137800028160 ~

(and WUaS will potentially sell these robots in our online stores - https://twitter.com/WUaSPress/status/1134499386807861248)

Just got a Kaiser Permanente test result back in email. Glad to have KP health insurance, but would love to teach at Stanford (and gave access too to Stanford MDs)... Haven't seen my new primAry care physician yet for the once a year free preventive check up, but plan to (and he went to Stanford as undergrad). The test result is emblematic of my having 'acquired' KP insurance ...

In looking at the history of test results in my KP Profile (since 2014), am curious how such data could feed into Google's Stanford's Duke's Project Baseline  ... and then even for genetic engineering and longevity questions eventually ... while I've blogged a fair amount about Project Baseline here's a description https://www.ajc.com/news/google-launches-000-person-study-predict-how-and-when-people-get-sick/j145e8I9Tyx4mECpHJNmYO/ ...

Would be great to become a Stanford professor ...

Am missing Cuttyhunk some, and looking forward to heading there at end of July, and seeing the Robbs too (hoping to make reservation and email Dick and Lucy soon). Were Hilary and I to connect further, would like to explore living closer to Cuttyhunk (Pittsburgh, Boston, Connecticut, RI, etc).

Have some hopes that the $250,000 National Science Foundation grant might still come through, esp having met in person Congresswoman Anna Eshoo at Stanford Law recently (thanks too to Law Prof Barbara Van Schewick, I think)... (Grants.gov password updates still come thru. Maybe I'll see Jim C a Reed friend in a week too, somehow in these regards, hunch-wise). Becoming a Stanford Professor would be great in these regards too.
BPPE licensing application form is at top of my to do list today. I have Tanya re possible Ph.D., Scottish students, California & US students (and English speaking students in all 200 countries first) in mind in these regards.

Hi Mimi (Cecilia, and Association of Internet Researchers, AoIR),

Thanks for your great research focus on teen online affinity networks.

I'm wondering if you might like to focus on questions of exploring 'building out' youth online communities to promote positive social support and mental wellness through digital channels. World Univ & Sch seeks to build online high school degree communities (potentially International Baccalaureate-centric - e.g. https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/WUaS_International_Baccalaureate_Diploma_and_Programme) first in the US in English and then also in each of ~200 countries' official / main languages, and as we eventually license (BPPE) and accredit too. And as a wiki, World University and School is also seeking to explore related questions with regards to online teen 'Universitian' (wiki-editors, teachers and learners) at World University and School, in all kinds of wiki subjects - e.g. https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects - again for wiki-open teaching and learning. (I don't know the teen Wikipedia communities in these regards). So, teens in African countries, for example, would be central to this in some years, after the English-speaking (MIT OCW-centric online High School - https://ocw.mit.edu/high-school/ - again potentially I.B.) begins to grow. Conceptually, such teen groups and channels would be in something like Google Education, and even Google + Plus social media site which was closed in April of 2019 (if G+ was re-vamped for this, for example).

I think these areas would address both of your questions:

Two questions:
• Do you know of online groups, communities, networks, or influencers who serve these groups of teens, and who might be possible partners for this kind of effort?
• Are there channels and forms of teen online participation that might be fruitful avenues for reaching vulnerable teens? For example, young women of color in college might form GroupMe or FB groups for social support, but I’m not certain if a similar practice exists at the high school level.

World University and School is seeking in particular to study academically questions of online mental wellness for teens, - e.g. https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Psychotherapy (again in potentially all countries' main languages) and with regards too to young women of color in high school.

And, further, World University and School is seeking to create a realistic virtual earth with avatar bots (am thinking Second Life in Google Streetview so where 10-person Google Hangouts' participants could become realistic avatar bots of teens, and in a 'digital gaming' like way too). I'm not yet clear how the digital teen space in such a single realistic virtual earth (think Google Streetview / Maps / Earth / Tensorflow with avatar bots / Translate+) will be different from the adult space here, and even re my related actual-virtual comparative ethnographic research on Harbin Hot Springs, and in planning for a realistic virtual Harbin at the cellular and atomic levels too (~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~).

Thank you so much, Mimi, for digging in on this, and looking forward in many ways to communicating further about teen online affinity networks ... to promote positive social support and mental wellness through digital channels.

Best, Scott

The goal is to work with networks involving teens (ages 13-18) who experience disproportionate amounts of  discrimination, trauma, and stress, and are not currently well-served by more conventional mental health services. We’re particularly interested in serving girls of color and subgroups (eg. immigrant, Latinx, and Muslim teens), and LGBTQIA+ teens.

Dear John,

I'm writing to follow up on my mentoring email inquiry of May 18th, 2019, and am seeking in an ongoing way - as I write the state of California's BPPE licensing application forms for World University and School - to ask if you'd please consider becoming a mentor to me at World Univ & Sch, (and re a possible mentoring program even), and also, for example, with regards to delineating a faculty-administration organization flowchart (re BPPE item 5) - https://www.bppe.ca.gov/forms_pubs/approval_nonaccredited.pdf - (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IMqiHn0x6WsASDepW3GHYqfWA7gPl2y9uu1BU6Yiqa0/edit?usp=sharing). Your presidential experience and knowledge here re mentoring and university institutional grown are remarkable.

And since the $250,000 National Science Foundation grant that WUaS applied for more than a year ago, and thought World Univ & Sch had gotten, but then was told we hadn't gotten, hasn't come through (yet?), - with monies budgeted to pay the BPPE fees, as well as to begin the accreditation process for online Bachelor, Ph.D. Law and M.D. degrees in each of all ~200 countries' official / main languages (probably beginning with WASC Senior), and to hire graduate student instructors (Stanford graduate students hopefully) to teach 'sections' to the CC-4 MIT OCW faculty in video in something like Google group video Hangouts / Google Education (which WUaS is in) - I'm writing too to inquire if you could potentially please mentor me with regards too to securing the $5,000 BPPE fee, and possibly even the whole WUaS NSF grant for $250,000 itself. Harvard Law Professor Charles Nesson's JuryX course, which I took, also offers another model of synchronous / asynchronous / conversation-in-group-video 'classrooms' https://online-learning.harvard.edu/course/juryx-deliberations-social-change (https://twitter.com/_eon_) which could be very useful for students leading busy lives and studying from their homes in all ~200 countries. Check out too, for example, the "Materials Science" wiki subject for open teaching and learning - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Materials_Science -(https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects), and see too the MIT OCW here that students will eventually take for credit. Major online WUaS Universities will emerge here in ~200 nation states - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States (in their official languages), and wiki schools for open teaching and learning in all 8k  languages + https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages.

As a mentor and Stanford professor and former Stanford president, I'm also writing you to inquire about my becoming a professor at Stanford. As an anthropologist, sociologist and educator, I teach about the information technology revolution, as well as about actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs (and a single realistic virtual earth, ethnographically. Becoming a professor at Stanford might also facilitate my severing ties formally with the WUaS Press / Corp - as founder and president / acting president of both wings: A) 501 c 3 World University and School, and B) the for profit general stock company the WUaS Corporation / Press - and re questions of conflict of interest, for example, especially if Stanford could help grow the B) WUaS Corp in ~200 countries' official languages and ~7111 living languages (and I continued to grow online A) World University and School in ~200 countries' official languages and ~7111 living languages); WUaS Press / Corporation wrote its Articles of Incorporation using an AI chat bot I learned about in a Stanford Law CodeX presentation, and it worked very well, and WUaS successfully incorporated as a second wing of WUaS).

In inquiring with you, John - as professor, as chairman of Alphabet/Google, and former President of Stanford - if you would mentor World University and School and me (in an email of Saturday, May 18th, and after a Stanford Entrepreneurial series' talk by Chip Conley, who mentioned this and mentioned a possible 3 week wait), I'm curious - at a key moment of connecting our "front end" WUaS MediaWiki with our "back end" Wikidata/Wikibase, in Wikipedia's 300 languages, for matriculating students and volunteer Universitians, and in planning for wiki teachers and learners in all 7,111 living languages to plan for all 7.5 billion people on the planet -  to explore too your mentorship re developing a single cryptocurrency backed by some number of ~200 countries' central banks and distributed partly via UBI experiments while planning this too for all 7.5 billion people, - and newly defined as an 'assistive technology.' And would it be possible to plan for this not only with Google Plus+ for all 7.5 billion people, conceptually, but also with Intuit Quickbooks and TurboTax too, in ~200 countries' languages re taxation questions in all ~200 nation states - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States and all 7k living languages https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages

With regards to a brand new Academic Press at World University and School - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html - the WUaS Press (of which I'm the publisher), planned with machine translation in all 7, 111 known living languages+ (conceptually like Google Translate) I'll be bringing now my 3 books to the Reed College Reunions' Marketplace -

https://twitter.com/HarbinBook/status/1131612072754573312 - this Saturday, and as part of WUaS's bookstore / computer store / robotics' store / hospital technologies' store in ~200 countries and 7111 living languages, both online and on the ground. See, too, "14 planned WUaS revenue streams" - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html - re both wings of WUaS.

In currently licensing World Univ & Sch with the state of California's BPPE, WUaS is seeking to matriculate our 2nd online undergraduate class of potentially ~500 students to begin even this autumn(leading to further focus on these BPPE licensing questions, and then accreditation).

So, in writing to ask if you'd please consider becoming a mentor to me at World Univ & Sch could I please ask you about your thinking about organizing the relationship between faculty and administrators per item 5a https://www.bppe.ca.gov/forms_pubs/approval_nonaccredited.pdf (and https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IMqiHn0x6WsASDepW3GHYqfWA7gPl2y9uu1BU6Yiqa0/edit?usp=sharing ), and further to inquire how best to explore developing a potential mentoring relationship with you?

Much more about World University and School as a global university here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/global%20university - as well.

World University and School seeks to become the online HarvardStanfordMIT of the Internet, and in ~200 nation states and 7k languages, and Stanford's excellence and your remarkable thinking could help inform this growth story of the Internet in so many great ways. Thank you.

Very Respectfully, Scott

P.S.
Here's what I have in mind by a 3D interactive realistic virtual universe / earth and at the atomic / cellular levels too in something like Google Street View with TIME SLIDER / Maps / Earth / Translate +++ : Visit the Harbin Hot Springsgate here, and "walk""4 miles" down the road to "amble" around Middletown, CA: http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~

And further, from Prof Michael Pitt's Reed profile - https://www.reed.edu/faculty-profiles/profiles/pitts-michael.html -

"My primary research interests center around the search for the neural substrates of consciousness. In psychology and cognitive neuroscience, it is generally accepted that most of what the brain does, it does so automatically, unconsciously. Because we have conscious experiences, however, some aspects of what the brain does must result in our subjective awareness of the world and of our own thoughts and feelings. A key unanswered question that my research seeks to resolve is: How does brain activity differ during conscious versus unconscious processing of objects and events in our world? To address this question, the primary strategy I use is to compare brain activity elicited by the same physical stimulus (typically visual or auditory) when it is perceived versus not-perceived, or perceived as X versus Y. In my lab we measure electrical brain activity non-invasively with EEG and use psychophysics, behavioral tasks, and eye tracking to manipulate attention and awareness in human subjects. My teaching relates to my research by providing students with a background in cognitive neuroscience methods, sensation and perception research, and specialized investigations into the neuroscience of consciousness and attention and consciousness research. "

* *
How it addresses the many facets of the subjective side (1st person experiences) of questions of how consciousness works in the brain (without self-reporting) isn't completely clear to me from these two web pages - https://www.reed.edu/reed-magazine/articles/2019/pitts-nsf-neural-mechanisms.html - https://www.reed.edu/faculty-profiles/profiles/pitts-michael.html - but it may lay further groundwork for addressing both self-reporting, as well as related questions of language (and potentially in many languages) ... if related experimental studies and techniques were interoperable with a realistic virtual earth, or a realistic virtual Harbin Hot Springs, for example, and even with brain wave headsets (such as Tan Le's, Brainfingers, or even something to be created with something like HUMM).

When doing yoga with a herniated disc, common sense is your best friend and guide.

  • Do not attempt any asanas while you are in the acute stage of the herniation. ...
  • Begin with gentle, slow and easy asanas. ...
  • Do not try to work through pain. ...
  • Back bends are very helpful.

Herniated Discs: Yoga Can Help, But Be Careful – Sociologically.net

All of this makes much sense ... Have you done much Yoga asana? (Coincidentally, I just did standing poses this morning, and inverted poses this afternoon - head stand on 2 chairs, and should stand ... quite enjoyably ... and re too my R ear Eustachian Tube Dysfunction). Yoga asana helps one relearn how to work with one's body in my experience, and from what I've learned. I come back to Dona Holleman's self-published books "Yoga Syllabus for Teacher and Student," and its companion book "Asana in Photo" for my practice.

Yay, Barbara ... glad you're moving, re back challenges ...

(What I personally found great about Dona Holleman's "Yoga Syllabus for Teacher and Student" and "Asana in Photo" is that practicing asana this way freed me from Yoga teachers and Yoga culture in many ways, and yet gave me the benefits of doing asana which are movement therapies; and because I had a good practice, thanks to these books, when I went through the 2 year Iyengar Yoga Institute SF certificate program around 90-91, I was able to complete this in a year, instead of two. Am happy to lend them to you for your own purposes, if ever you're interested! I appreciate the independence and even the freedom they offer).

Glad you're exercising, and have found helpful therapists and approaches! And doing well enough to listen to Joni Mitchell!

(Heading north to Oregon tomorrow, back late the following week, so I won't be at SCD OpenBand this Monday ... Mentioned that you were having back issues yesterday evening as well).

Cheers, Scott
