Ursa Major: WUaS planned ONLINE degrees in ~200 countries & languages: BS / BA, PhD, Law, MD, IB, Music * * * Tokyo Japan+ Scottish country dancing

Previous: Puffball mushroom: Consciousness? Understanding how consciousness works (eg reconciling 1st person & 3rd person accounts) is one of the most intractable scientific & philosophical challenges there is. Reed Prof. Michael Pitts' research is great and remarkable in these regards, ""My primary research interests center around the search for the neural substrates of consciousness," How it addresses the many facets of the subjective side (1st person experiences) of questions of how consciousness works in the brain (without self-reporting) isn't completely clear to me from these two web pages - https://www.reed.edu/reed-magazine/articles/2019/pitts-nsf-neural-mechanisms.html - https://www.reed.edu/faculty-profiles/profiles/pitts-michael.html - but it may lay further groundwork for addressing both self-reporting, as well as related questions of language (and potentially in many languages) * * * "Yoga With a Herniated Disk," What I personally found great about Dona Holleman's "Yoga Syllabus for Teacher and Student" and "Asana in Photo" is that practicing asana this way freed me from Yoga teachers and Yoga culture in many ways, and yet gave me the benefits of doing asana which are movement therapies

Good morning, M,

Found these newspaper articles about the "King Lear" Shakespeare play you saw -

Dad, as having his "Lear"'moments' in Pittsburgh, comes to mind and even too re 319.  I'm glad you're making these big steps ...

I still recall Dad's anger - his rage and furious tirades in the 1970s at the dinner table in the old kitchen of that house (before the Sun Room remodel), and toward you in your bedroom, which I heard on the 3rd floor above you, - quite negatively. Writing about this here I hope comes into conversation with your email a little, and re thinking about 319 Juniata Court emotionally somehow (for me), and in terms of your imminent potential departure. And then after Dad was impaired, in around 2007, when he fell on the driveway coming out of the garage, almost dramatically - re Lear again - still linger. Dad was so smart, even after his 2 injuries (subdural hematomas). And yet even with Dad's rage, and what I'd call too his 'prickly pearness,' and the injuries he sustained in 2004 in Belize on Semester Sea, he was able in 2006 and 2007 (when I was living in Pittsburgh), with restorative Yoga poses, modified to what he could do, was able too to elicit the relaxation response, - a kind of meditation, or inner releasing action - in that house. All thinking and writing a bit psychoanalytically here, and loosely informed by a Lacanian use of language.

If you were to move anywhere near to where C.M. lives (although ... ), i.e. near the Unitarian Church, you'd also be near the Carnegie Museum, C.M.U., Pitt, and with great bus lines to get downtown to hear symphony music, for example. All this area is kind of in a center of culture for Pittsburgh, on Pittsburgh's 5th Avenue, and both very social, and interestingly urban, with many students and young people not far away and around. And I think Grandpa Sandy Brown worked in that building across from Heinz Chapel for a while when he was at Carnegie Tech (in the 1920s?), or similar.

Glad you "Saw a wonderful performance of King Lear at the now defunct Carrie Furnace site, a remarkably impressive place to stage that play.  Inspired..." and glad you're thinking through ... , M!

L, Scott

Hi Reedies,

How are you all? I just arrived at Reed College (in Portland, Oregon) for the reunion, and with 3 books in the Academic Press at World University and School, for https://reunions.reed.edu/marketplace.html,

Scott MacLeod ’85: World University and School Academic Press
Author of
Naked Harbin Ethnography: Hippies, Warm Pools, Counterculture, Clothing-Optionality and Virtual Harbin,
Winding Road Rainbow: Harbin, Wandering & the Poetry of Loving Bliss,
Haiku~ish: and Other, Loving, Hippy, Harbin Poetry.

... I'm glad to say (& planned eventually in 7,111 known living languages, and ~200 countries, with machine translation, both for STEM and poetry, et al.)!

It would great to see you, and to visit over a cup of chai or coffee. Whom among you might you be around?

Byron Hann writes; "Please give my regards to the gang. Hopefully next time! XxB" :) (And just heard Gary Snyder talk at Stanford, one again connectedly ... https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/06/blue-poppy-just-heard-poet-reedie-uc.html ... thank you, Gary!)

Further Reed Reunions' Tweets may emerge here - https://twitter.com/scottmacleod ...

Warm greetings, Scott

A vision of Reed College - John Sheehy's "Comrades of the Quest: An Oral History of Reed College" (2012) ... like a vision of Stanford University - John Hennessy's "Leading Matters: Lessons from My Personal Journey" (2018)

John Sheehy, 2012, "Comrades of the Quest: An Oral History of Reed College"

A little like Stanford's John Hennessy's "Leading Matters: Lessons from my Personal Journey," which I think of is a vision for Stanford (and I'm looking around for other similar Stanford 'vision' books) ...
when I asked John SHEEHY in the Reed College Commons this morning about other books expressing a kind of visionary vision for Reed, besides his "Comrades of the Quest" (which is both ethnographic and interview-oriented, too) he suggested:

Burton R. Clark, 1992 (1970)
"THE DISTINCTIVE COLLEGE: ANTIOCH, REED, AND SWARTHMORE"
Aldine Publishing Company, 1970
1992 - 2nd edition

Reed College Reunions' Marketplace ...

https://reunions.reed.edu/marketplace.html

Reedie Artisans & Authors Marketplace

What is Marketplace?

Marketplace is an opportunity for Reedies in the food, beverage, craft, and literary industries to showcase and sell their work to the Reed community. Guests can taste wine and spirits; sample food from local Reedie-owned establishments; purchase jewelry, cosmetics, and crafts; and get books from their favorite Reedie authors. The event will take place on Saturday, June 8 from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. in the Performing Arts Building. An updated list of purveyors is below. Check back for updates!
We do our best to make the event accessible to all Reedie entrepreneurs, particularly those who are just starting their careers or trying a new venture. Unlike other markets and fairs, Reunions Marketplace vendors are not asked to pay for table space and we provide most set-up needs (such as tables and linens).
Please note that there is an ATM is available in the basement of the Gray Campus Center across from the bookstore and that some of the vendors are cash-only.

For Purveyors: Things to Know

The Reunions Assistant is your contact person for all Marketplace questions and concerns. Please call 503/517-5491 to get in touch.

To do

  • If selling alcohol, look out for an email regarding OLCC permits.
  • Make your product! If you are providing free samples, please bring as much as you are comfortable with. It’s okay if you run out before 2 p.m.
  • If you need to process credit cards on a smartphone or tablet, please note that cell phone service may be inconsistent in the Performing Arts Building; however, we anticipate that you'll have reliable access to WiFi.

Was excited yesterday to see a number of A) drone videos or her property from 2018 on Lynn's computer, some photos of her B) Watsu pool from possibly a decade ago, and C) a video of Lynn giving Kathleen Watsu in Florida around 1999 in Florida, with underwater videography as well.

Am interested, with these very media, in creating a prototype visit to virtual Harbin for giving and receiving Watsu  from one's bath tub and via ethnographic-wiki-virtual-world-graphy (ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy) ... and also re making her property come alive (both as 3D museum as well as archive/library). This would further involve developing a video-to-3D-virtual-world conversion application so we could even begin to explore separating Lynn from Kathleen in the 3D virtual world, and thus so that their realistic avatar bots could instruct independently, or do solo water dance ... and all observable from a digital mask while soaking in a bath tub. ...

Dear Klaus, (and Lydia, Hilary and Mike),

Very nice to meet and hear you at the Stanford Library talk on 'Content in Context: The Bavarian State Library in the Digital World, a Conversation with Klaus Ceynowa' in April 2017 - https://library.stanford.edu/events/content-context-bavarian-state-library-digital-world-conversation-klaus-ceynowa (and with, if I recall correctly, Mike Keller there. Did you introduce this Mike?) I'd also like to introduce you here to Hilary Thorsen, chair of the Stanford/Harvard/Cornell Wikidata Affinity Group, and a Stanford librarian.

Glad to know that, time permitting, I may be making a brief presentation about World University and School's Library Resources - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Library_Resources (planned in each of all ~300 languages in Wikidata / Wikipedia, and indeed in each of all 7,111 known living languages as wiki pages for open teaching and learning) with Wikidata / Wikibase as a "back end" structured knowledge database, for 5 minutes at the end of this on Tuesday's June 18th meeting at 9 am Pacific Time, which Stanford Wikidata Affinity Group is one hour long. (This video conference should be video recorded too).

Elena Aleynikova and Jens Ohlig of Wikimedia Deutschland have graciously offered to share a presentation about their work with the German National Library using Wikibase, as Hilary writes.

Call Details:
June 18, 2019 9am PST / 12pm EST / 16:00 UTC / 6pm CEST (Time zone converter)
Zoom link to join meeting: https://stanford.zoom.us/j/204437188

Klaus and All, I've included below some of our correspondence from spring of 2017 for further related conversation.

All the best, Scott

--
From April 19, 2017 ...

Dear Dr. Elisabeth Niggermann,

Having met Dr. Klaus Ceynowa at a fantastic Stanford Library talk on "Content in Context: The Bavarian State Library in the Digital World, a Conversation with Klaus Ceynowa" - https://library.stanford.edu/events/content-context-bavarian-state-library-digital-world-conversation-klaus-ceynowa - I'm writing to you at his suggestion to inquire how World University and School might best collaborate with the German National Library (GNL). I'm writing in particular concerning exploring how the German National Library might orchestrate creating online libraries in all ~200 countries official languages with each country's national library + , which would develop out of the Bavarian National Library's great organizational approach (and potentially the GNL's especially) and which I learned about from Dr. Ceynowa's Stanford talk. (I'm including our email correspondence thus far below). Of course, this might include planning to develop online libraries in all 7,099 living languages in Ethnologue / 8,044 language entries in Glottolog - where linguists and academics would, in a parallel way, develop the WUaS wiki schools for this, again in all 7097 known living languages. (See, too, the ~12 main areas of focus for CC WUaS here - http://worlduniversityandschool.org ... which is like CC Wikipedia (in 358 languages) with CC MIT OpenCourseWare (in 7 languages) and CC Yale OYC - which will all become integrated in Wikidata/Wikibase, to which WUaS donated itself in October 2015, and probably also with Google Education, which WUaS has).

Best greetings from the San Francisco Bay Area,
Scott

Dear Klaus,

Thank you for your fabulous, wonderful and truly exemplar talk yesterday at Stanford - https://library.stanford.edu/events/content-context-bavarian-state-library-digital-world-conversation-klaus-ceynowa .

I asked about your and the Bavarian state library's guidelines for working with other Bundeslaendern, other countries and, for example, Europeana, because I greatly appreciated the organizational focus you are bringing to Bayern's libraries as a system. You are making real what other library systems might seek to do, but haven't successfully done yet - you have a much broader overview in these regards than I do, however - as I see it. I also appreciated your response concerning openness as a guideline for you.

I also asked because CC World University and School, which is like CC Wikipedia (in 300 languages) with CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare (in its 5 languages) and CC Yale OYC would like to create both libraries (and museums) in all 8,496 entries in languages (per Glottolog) / and in all 7,111 living languages (per Ethnologue) - each a wiki subject page to begin. This would emerge from this beginning "Library Resources"' wiki subject page -  http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Library_Resources - into all 7097 languages, after WUaS moves to a new wiki, emerging from Wikidata, Wikpedia's database in 300 languages. Perhaps a good way for you to visualize this is here - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/11/lions-in-trees-all-libraries-all.html - where one could, in a realistic virtual earth, such as conceptually in Google Streetview with TIME SLIDER, go virtually into this pretty Swiss library and pick a digital book from its shelf, from any time in history (with time slider). From a structured data perspective - such as the one Wikidata (which is mostly based in Berlin and somewhat in San Francisco with the Wikimedia Foundation) is developing - each book in any library in any of the ~200 countries in the world at present could have something like a Q-item number (Wikidata's basic unit) or similar.

(World University and School would like our matriculating students in our developing online major CC MIT OCW-centric universities, in all ~200 countries' official languages - and studying for online free CC OpenCourseWare Bachelor, Ph.D., law and medicine degrees, as well as I.B. (International Baccalaureate) high school diplomas - to have access to greatest online university academic libraries, perhaps different from the public libraries, for example, in the U.S.)

WUaS would also like to develop an WUaS Universal Translator, perhaps building on Google Neural Machine Translation / GNMT /Google Translate, such that an anthropologist or linguist or librarian could go into any physical library in the world and hold their smartphone up to a document in any language and read it translated into their own language - and also photograph the document (observing copyright law, etc.). (You'll find the beginning WUaS Universal Translator link in my blog entry above).

How might we further communicate and collaborate about much of this? Would the Bavarian State Library be available to orchestrate creating online libraries in all ~200 countries official languages with their national libraries, which would develop out of the BSL's great organizational approach? Of course, this might include planning to develop online libraries in all 7,111 living languages - where linguists and academics would, in a parallel way, develop the WUaS wiki schools for this, again in all 7097 known living languages. (See, too, the ~12 main areas of focus for WUaS here - http://worlduniversityandschool.org - which will all become integrated in Wikidata/Wikibase and probably also with Google Education, which WUaS has).

Thank you for your inspiring and great talk, Klaus. It makes me want to return to Munich and visit your library, as well as my friends, and Quakers, Eckhard and Liesl Krueger (who no longer live in Garching, however) and their two sons, as well as other possible friends from the 13 months I spent in Munich in 1981-82 in the Reed College program, as well as at LMU.

Best regards,
Scott

Dear Klaus,

Thank you for your email. And I continue to be impressed with the realization of the Bavarian State Library system now in the information age.

I wonder how the Bavarian State Library might benefit from a relationship with the German National Library concerning the all-libraries in all 7097 languages' World University and School online project I mentioned. And could you possibly please suggest the proper contact person, or refer me to a colleague you know at Frankfurt or Leipzig. Who is the Director General, in your role, at the German National Library? I found this email address - demail-postfach@dnb.de-mail.de - here www.dnb.de - but am not sure that sending an email to the Director General of the General Nation Library would get through.

Also, I'm glad to say my actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' book ~ http://amazon.com/author/scottmacleodworlduniversity ~ is in the following libraries: UC Berkeley, Princeton University's and the University of Alberta in Canada, and per WorldCat here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/03/california-valley-oak-my-naked-harbin.html. I would also be happy to mail one to you myself at the wholesale cost (~US$39,00) plus shipping.

Best greetings from the SF Bay Area,
Scott

Dear Klaus,

I received an email from Gmail saying that there is a temporary problem with this email - demail-postfach@dnb.de-mail.de - and that they will try to deliver it within the next 48 hours. ...

Might I also put you in contact with Lydia Pintscher in Berlin, who is Wikidata's Product Manager? (CC-4 MIT OCW-centric in its 5 languages - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/translated-courses/ - wiki World University and School donated itself to CC Wikidata in October 2015, and will therefore emerge in the next while from CC Wikipedia's database in its 358 languages, and eventually into all 7,111 living languages). Thank you very much.

Best regards,
Scott

Dear Scott,

this is ok, the mail has been sent to the central distribution station of the DNB ("Postfach"), and will be forwarded to the Boss-level of the library - just a little bit patience.

Dear Klaus,

Thanks again for your email. I just yesterday received an email saying my "Message Not Delivered" to demail-postfach@dnb.de-mail.de at the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (German National Library). ... How best would you suggest getting in touch with the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek to explore moving forward this great potential for collaboration, and creation of online wiki libraries in all 7,099 languages (Ethnologue), and indeed, in all 8,044 entries in languages (in Glottolog) - and re Wikidata (in 358 languages) with the BNL and especially the GNL's great systems?

Thank you.

Dear Sukhita, Sohini, Cynthia (and Bill - could you please forward this email to your wife - Samira and Abhay),

Very nice to talk with you after the Stanford Design Impact Master's Class presentations, and thanks for your excellent talks. (I felt there were some hippy influences in them in really great ways). I tweeted with a photo about this here -

Let's stay in touch too about CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare-centric wiki India World University and School - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/India -
(https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States) planned in Indian languages eg https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Bengali_language and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Tamil_language and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Punjabi_language and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Hindi_language et al. Indeed, WUaS is planning online free-to-students' Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, M.D. and I.B. degrees in each of all ~200 countries' official languages and wiki schools for open teaching and learning in all 7,111 known living languages. There's so much design impact potential at World University and School, that I hope we can stay in touch about this in multiple ways.

Appreciating too Samira Daswani's 'Meditation, Coaching, Therapy' approach to re-framing (#4), and especially with regards to developing the Medical Schools at World University and Schools' approaches (in multiple languages) re online Psychiatry - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Psychiatry, Psychotherapy - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Psychotherapy, Psychoanalysis (Lacanian) - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Psychoanalysis and Meditation - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Meditation (and Yoga too - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Yoga - where asana could be construed as movement therapies) re some ideas Cynthia and I talked about. WUaS would both like to design with impact for these wiki subjects and related degrees, as well as rigorously study best practices and STEM approaches re related questions ... and potentially even re WUaS creating academic faculty and online MD careers (i.e. WUaS is seeking to create 2.2 million careers, about the size of Walmart, in all ~200 countries; see - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html).

Check out some of the ~2,500 MIT OCW courses in English in some of these Subjects - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects - which will eventually be for credit in students' languages (e.g. https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/translated-courses/). Students will get MIT for free in many ways!

With regard to the creation of a realistic virtual earth, and re design impact (am thinking Google Streetview with TIME SLIDER, Maps, Earth, TensorFlow, Translate at the cellular and atomic levels, and with realistic avatar bots, and even eventually for medical practices like tele-robotic surgery), check out my actual-virtual ethnographic Harbin Hot Springs' field site -

Visit the Harbin gate in Google Street View here ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ where you can "walk" down the road '4 miles' to Middletown and 'amble' around the streets there, if inclined. And add some photos or videos if you have them - re a new social science method I'm developing - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - think ethnography as interpretive social science practices, wiki (think fast adding / curating of Wikipedia) and co-building of a virtual world (like in Sansar / Second Life /Open Simulator with avatar bots) but not cartoon-esque, rather realistically.

Thank you again for your excellent and inspiring presentations, and very nice to talk with you afterward.

All the best, and Namaste,
Scott

How's Harbin's re-opening going? The Watsu pool in the pool area looks like an 'all-seeing' eye in some pictures I've seen.

Agenda & News for OPEN WUaS Monthly Business Meeting
World University and School
A draft of the state of California's Bureau of Private Postsecondary BPPE licensing application is done. Now World University and School, needs the $5000 fee, which WUaS doesn't have, so the state of California can process this.

2
501 c 3 World University and School welcomes your tax deductible donations for this.

World University and School's Library Resources - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Library_Resources -  presentation in the Wikidata Affinity Group chaired by Stanford librarian Hilary Thorsen will not occur tomorrow June 18th, and may be rescheduled for July 2nd (https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1zUtIX_G47fI3jH9FCIF3ScLzANX81qjeeUP9QnS59cI/edit?usp=sharing).
World University and School is seeking online university libraries for online matriculating students for Bachelor, Ph.D. Medical, Law, and I.B. high school degrees in each of all ~200 nation states’ official / main languages.

Would collaborating with Harvard libraries be a possibility? And re:
'Collaborating with other universities and sharing collections will make 90 million books available to @HarvardLibrary users'

Unfortunately, the $250,000 National Science Foundation award that WUaS thought World University and School was granted - since WUaS heard about this in January, and with this information went ahead and successfully procured a DUNS number from D&B (in NYC) as a next step in the funding process - has not come through, per a communication on April 30, 2019 from our Program Administrator at the NSF - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/05/rhododendron-arboreum-flower-of-nepal.html.
WUaS had budgeted part of these monies for the initial BPPE fee, and part of these monies for accreditation potentially with WASC senior, and some of these monies to hire graduate student instructors to teach 'sections' online in group video conferencing to the best STEM CC-4 OpenCourseWare (OCW) faculty in video.

This has been a major setback in a number of ways, but especially with regards to initial BPPE licensing.

5
World University and School is seeking further collaboration with Stanford Law and Stanford Medicine in all 200 countries' official / main languages for something like best STEM OpenCourseWare - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/05/common-blackbird-eggs-to-stanfords-john.html - and in particular is in communication about this with Stanford Chair and Professor of Medicine Robert Harrington MD, and Stanford Law Lecturer Roland Vogl.

6
Live interactive participatory Hangouts on Air for World University and School continue to meet on Mondays at 10 am Pacific Time in Google group video Hangouts for your idea, your questions, and what you'd like to share - https://www.youtube.com/user/WorldUnivandSch - with announcements here, for example - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1140721890358484994 - and directly to your inbox if you'd like.

A
Academic Press at World University and School (planned with machine translation in all ~200 countries and 7,111 known living languages) was at Reed College for the 3rd year in a row, participating in Reed Reunions' Marketplace (which is also 3 years old). See: https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/06/borage-glad-to-bring-academic-press.html.

Re the planned Bookstore at World Univ & Sch (also planned in ~200 countries and 7,111 living languages), Larry Viehland reports that his new STEM book "Gaseous Ion Mobility, Diffusion, and Reaction" (2018) - https://www.springer.com/gp/book/9783030044930 - has sold about 1200 copies digitally, and about 3 copies on paper. This is a remarkable new opportunity for the WUaS beginning bookstore - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Bookstore_/_Computer_Store_(New_%26_Used)_at_WUaS - which also seeks to explore how best to carry Larry's "Gaseous Ion Mobility, Diffusion, and Reaction" book. Thanks, Fritz, for joining the WUaS Live Hangout on Air this morning!

Text chat is below.

How best to create such meta-data / mind maps for end users at - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University (planning conceptually eventually for all 7.5 billion people on planet, and re WUaS Universitian volunteers) - potentially 500 undergrad students in English, and then Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, MD and I.B. high school students in ~200 countries' official / main languages with time?

Yes, I can text you, but voice still has problems.
Is there a simple example of a useful multi-author interactive publishing task? What are the most eminent barriers to overcome? technically and in terms of content?
Great, how to tag with author/participant community infos that seem particularly relevant to each specific community?
How to guide it toward a specific content/knowlege direction without creating information overload?
Great answer, Scott. Now I think a meta-language could help. For example: what is the hyperlink graph that other users have created/followed up on... the enhanced learning experience!
In other words: we should share how other people use/explore the knowledge base which will make it dynamic experience.
Its like adding a mind map of other people's actions.
Fascinating! then find similarities of a generic learning progress based on the activated knowledge snippets.
All the ideas may lead to emerging new learning and teaching methods.
Thank you so much for mentioning the conference methods that activates interaction within a group of engaged students on virtual, distant locations.
Individual studies could perhaps be looked at filtering specific information to guide a group toward a common goal in a highly efficient way.

Fritz Lebowsky

Well, yes exponential growth needs to be reduced to human manageable useful filtering of individual goals and team contributions. So to speak, a distributive approach to managing team knowledge and share it efficiently
It was a great pleasure for me to have participated today!

Dear Cathy!

Thanks so much for your wonderful lunch with everyone, and for having me over in eastern Oregon. So nice to see Steve, Alex, Julie and your grandchildren especially. Your new house in wonderful! Interesting too to see your engagements with digital technologies I hadn't seen before like Nintendo's Wii for - physical! - tennis (and boxing), as well as Dunham's dancing learning-approaches to dentistry - re 'flossing' dance and 'brushing' dances - which are great ways to learn. And glad too that Dunham wrote his first beginning computer program in the Lego WeDo2 'Block' language -

https://youtu.be/Y9wiMjoySJg - and that at least he caught a glimpse of how the MIT/ Harvard Scratch 3.0 drag and drop programming language for kids (and adults!) works, albeit that we didn't connect it to the Lego Robot (from Lego WeDo 2.0 ... check out too Lego Mindstorms EV3 if and after you explore WeDo2).

Julie, congratulations on becoming a school board member. Pendleton schools might enjoy the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math and teamwork) and for social learning, for schools only, in Lego Spike Prime when it comes out in August I think - eg see

And very nice to see you Alex and Steve!

Am excited for when Lego WeDo2 and MindstormsEV3 and SpikePrime all become workable for learning in a realistic virtual earth and even for machine learning which I think is in the offing as I tweeted here:

Cathy, I'll check out the film "The Martian" when I can find it easily online or in the library. The Berkeley Public Library has a few available on DVD, but my MacBook Air doesn't have a DVD / CD slot anymore!

Thank you again for your wonderful get together, the nice lunch, showing me your beautiful new home, - and it was so great to connect with you family-wise.

Warm regards, Scott

Hello everyone,

Thank you for joining and participating in today's call. Thank you very much to Jens Ohlig for talking about Wikibase and the German National Library's use of it with their Integrated Authority File (Gemeinsame Normdatei, GND). And thank you to Merrilee Proffitt for taking notes.

Before the next meeting on July 2nd, please take a look at the draft of our goals and outcomes for the group and make comments and suggestions. We'll finalize it at the next meeting. I also included a section for future call topics that were mentioned at our brainstorming session on the 21st. Feel free to add to these.

Our next meeting will be July 2, 2019 9am PST / 12pm EST / 16:00 UTC / 6pm CEST (Time zone converter)

Hi Hilary, Jens and Lydia,

Brainstorming-wise, in addition the the 2 questions I asked you (to which UMN in a way expanded helpfully on my first one) these are the questions I asked directly to you in the Zoom video conference :

Hi Jens, May I please follow up with you about Wikibase, Wikidata and your response to my second question about all people in countries - re a key coding moment for wiki World University and School - and coding for wiki learners and teachers in each of all ~200 countries, and even planning for all 7.5 billion people and re possible Universal Basic Income experiments in many / most / all countries? Thanks so much, Scott

World Univ & Sch donated ourselves to Wikidata per Lydia for co-development in 2015, and have WUaS MediaWiki but our Wikidata and MediaWiki aren’t yet operable.

And further, wiki World University and School is exploring developing avatar bot electronic health records for all 7.5 billion people on the planet, conceptually, for our planned online Medical Schoolshttps://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Medical_School - with online teaching hospitals - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Hospital - for online clinical care, and especially medicine research with machine learning. Would the Integrated Authority File (Gemeinsame Normdatei, GND), brainstorming-wise further, be a good starting place for building this out?

World Univ & Sch is seeking to develop a matriculation / registration process for degree-seeking students in all ~200 countries' offiicial / main languages, and an "user name" approach for Universitian volunteers in each of all 7.111 known living languages -
https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University - and at this key time of coding our "front end" WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki with WUaS's "back end" Wikidata / Wikibase in Wikipedia's 300 languages is seeking to plan for all 7.5 billion wiki teachers and learners on the planet (growing to 11 billion possibly in a century from now).
Thanks so much for your helpful and edifying Wikibase talk in the Wikidata Affinity Group.

(Ich habe ein Jahr lang vor vielen Jahren in Muenchen gewohnt, und kann deswegen Deutsch sprechen und verstehen. Vielen Dank, Jens, Lydia und Hilary).

Alles Gute, Scott

to Philip, Larry, Michael.Keller@stanford.edu, Robert, Roland, Mimi

Dear Michael,

... I'd like to add to this that startup CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare-centric wiki World University and School (of which I'm its president, founder, and a professor) is 'officially' a collaborator with Stanford Medicine's Stanford Center for Digital Health (Robert Harrington MD is its director), and is seeking for World University and School's Medical Schools, with online WUaS medical libraries, to emerge in ~200 countries' languages. Likewise, World University and School is also a collaborator with Stanford Law CodeX (Roland Vogl is its executive director, and a lecturer in the Stanford Law School) for our planned online Law Schools also in ~200 countries' languages, and also planning online law libraries in ~200 countries' official and main languages. (I'm including Mr. Philip Jelley, a Stanford graduate - for both BA and Law degrees - for reference here too). Hence World University and School is affiliated with Stanford in a number of ways. World University and School is also planning online libraries in each of all 7,111 known living languages, emerging from Wikidata / Wikibase structured knowledge database - hence my email introducing Mr. Klaus Ceynowa to Stanford librarian Ms. Hilary Thorsen, Stanford libraries' Wikimedian in Residence - re the open Wikidata Affinity Group. FYI, World University and School donated itself to Wikidata (as "back end") for co-development in 2015, which is in Wikipedia's 300 languages, and received this front end WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki - e.g. https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Library_Resources (of which there are about 725 wiki subject pages currently at WUaS, all not yet connected with Wikidata) - in 2017, and which WUaS is currently seeking to make interoperable, and for libraries, and also with regards to the Wikidata Affinity Group.

All of these developments will potentially benefit and even significantly grow Stanford Libraries especially.

While WUaS will seek not to use the " Stanford Libraries'" name, ... attending Stanford Libraries' events since these are remarkable networking opportunities emerging from Stanford's Mission -
"Research: Extend the frontiers of knowledge, stimulate creativity, and solve real-world problems
Education: Prepare students to think broadly, deeply and critically, and to contribute to the world
Service: Deploy Stanford’s strengths to benefit our region, country and world" (https://ourvision.stanford.edu/vision-initiatives/mission-values)
- and which Creative Commons' focused CC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School shares (and which is also "educational, intellectual and commercial-free"), and seeks to extend in remarkable new ways.

Thank you.

Sincerely, Scott

Reed Prof. Nathalia King's Introduction to Hum 110 Mexico City Module on Saturday, June 8th at Reunions

Dear Nathalia (Prof. at Reed College),

Thanks so much for your excellent Reed talk on Saturday, June 8th at Reunions - "Prof. Nathalia King's Introduction to Hum 110 Mexico City Module: "We Walked a Long Time to Get Here; We Have Been Here Forever"" June 8 2019 -
Am curious what the culture of the writers of these remarkable Aztec documents was ...   as I asked about in passing at the close of your talk. Was this religio-scribal? What would you posit, and how and why? (Am an anthropologist / sociologist now, and was a religion major at Reed, well before the new developments in Reed's Hum 110). Am curious too how we might explore the questions of multimedia (re performance) you raised / alluded to
... and even newly in a realistic virtual earth for humanities' and social science research (but more about this later perhaps in future communication). Am curious too about Reed's Hum 110, and even how it might find its way online into Google group video Hangouts / Zoom video conferencing - to explore the Conference Method in new ways - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Conference_Method_of_Teaching_and_Learning - and also at CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare-centric World University and School (of which I'm the founder, head, and a professor at) in all ~200 countries' official and main languages, - and in very inspiring ways. This could be a way to increase attendance even in upper level Hum 110 courses (eg on China), and for even Reed to get reimbursement from countries' governments for their online matriculated students re WUaS (since CC-4 licensing means that WUaS can't ask for tuition from students, but WUaS can seek reimbursement from governments).

I've been emailing a little with Candace Lieber above, whom I was sitting beside, and we both very much were so inspired by your Hum 110 talk (she to 'tears' she wrote). Have posted my emails to her below for your perusal if interested.

Am curious too about your work on questions of consciousness - https://www.reed.edu/english/courses/eng333theoriesofmind/ - (as well as Prof. Michael Pitts innovative research in these regards - https://www.reed.edu/reed-magazine/articles/2019/pitts-nsf-neural-mechanisms.html) and even with regards to exploring beginning to represent consciousness (about which I've given some thought - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/consciousness) in new ways in a realistic virtual earth ...
https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1136046593008738305 - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/06/puffball-mushroom-consciousness.html. (I hope to blog about this some today, and also re mapping the brain with a HUMM headband in innovative ways).
Here are my notes - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ByhOUjjm-qe5oIGUyBfqMM10Mlk95T7f6_cpb35ArF4/edit?usp=sharing - from your great talk, and it would be great to communicate further about these questions in so many ways.

How might we explore doing so, I wonder? Thank you again so much.

All the best, & Cheers, Scott

Hi Candace,

Thanks for your nice email.

Running on empty for years writing 3 books & teaching this course - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html - at World Univ & Sch and in other universities off and on, while developing World Univ & Sch (see too these 14 planned WUaS revenue streams ... - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html - none of which have yet been realized, - and as you may have noticed here - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2019/06/agenda-news-for-open-wuas-monthly.html - especially with regards to the NSF grant for $250,000 which we recently learned WUaS didn't get, and we don't have a track record; can you think of any grants to apply for, to have a successful first grant, and thus start a track record?) ... and kind of following a leading to develop and grow World University and School, planning free to students' CC-4 MIT OCW-centric online degrees (because of MIT OCW's CC-4 licensing) in 200 countries - Bachelor, PhD. Law MD and IB high school - as well as wiki schools for open teaching and learning in each of all 7,111 known living languages. (MIT OCW is both a gold mine and mother lode in the language of our necks of the dry west (and reaching all over the world) - and how best to 'mine' this flourishingly and  brilliantly re matriculating students in many languages (as WUaS begins to license with the state of CA's BPPE, but doesn't have the $5,000 to pay the initial fee)? WUaS will help so many people, and is fascinating to develop ... About bliss in another email perhaps, but check out the 'loving bliss' label in my blog, for ex. - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/loving%20bliss). So studying for a PhD could be an opportunity for you at World Univ & Sch, Candace, and which also could be Stanford ethos-informed, in addition to MIT-ethos and OCW informed. What's your dream structure for a PhD, either existing university informed that you can point to  (beyond extending Reed's ethos online) or that you can either envision? But I am running very seriously on empty financially (for years now, and am seeking also to begin a family). Glad your daughter has found her people in kids' opera, Candace, and that you're thinking about moving to Denver too.

I found Nathalia King's Hum 110 lecture very inspiring as well - https://www.reed.edu/faculty-profiles/profiles/king-nathalia.html. Thanks for asking to see these rough notes, Candace - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ByhOUjjm-qe5oIGUyBfqMM10Mlk95T7f6_cpb35ArF4/edit?usp=sharing. I have an email to Nathalia King drafted re her talk, re Hum 110 re WUaS in general, as well as her studies of consciousness  re English /  social theory - https://www.reed.edu/english/courses/eng333theoriesofmind/. May include Reed Prof Michael Pitts who studies consciousness experimentally and in an innovative way too re https://www.reed.edu/reed-magazine/articles/2019/pitts-nsf-neural-mechanisms.html. Shall I include you too? At the undergraduate level online, World Uni & Sch would like to require an online Hum 110, with conference method - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Conference_Method_of_Teaching_and_Learning in group video - and eventually in all ~200 countries' official languages - and inspiringly - so will keep you in this loop re Nathalia's great talk about the new Hum 110. How to make all of WUaS as inspiring as N. Kings' talk I wonder, let alone all of Hum 110 in many languages? Would you like to join the WUaS monthly business meeting this Saturday 6/22 at 9am for an hour in a Google group video Hangout? WUaS is working on developing a great online set of libraries in many languages (see News and Agenda above) ... and emerging from Wikidata / Wikibase structured knowledge database in Wikipedia's 300 languages. Hoping to create in a far-reaching way an amazing community of like-minded and smart (high achieving - am thinking MIT and Stanford students) as well, online. World Univ & Sch is very web-centric and seeks to build community online anew.

WUaS also seeks to create an enormous number of academic and staff careers in 200 countries and 7k languages with time (2.2 million with parallels to Walmart, re both of our wings, the other of which includes online/on-the-ground bookstores / computer stores / robotics' stores / hospital technology +++ ... see the 14 planned revenue streams above). Your management experience/thinking would invaluable in these regards too (and could eventually be remunerative), and especially creative and fascinating work.

I like the softness of Comic Sans (a bit Angela Farmer and Victor van Kooten artistically inspired too - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/Angela%20and%20Victor%20yoga - who are also old hippy Yogis, teaching in and from Greece) ... but all of WUaS's web sites are due for a major update, and for professionalization ... hopefully in conjunction with Google Education, which WUaS is in, as well as the A) Google platform in general, and its Google Translate ~100 languages B) MIT OCW in 5 languages, and C) in Wikidata / Wikibase's 300 languages and eventually in all 7111 known living languages - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University.

Nice to get your email, and how best to carry on this conversation. More soon to Nathalia ... And what other questions do you have, Candace? :)

Th June 20 2019

Candace,

Likin' your writin' and followed 2 out of the 3 instagrams you shared from https://www.instagram.com/worlduniversityandschool/?hl=en (which is WUaS law school focused, and fairly inactive).

Glad you're well, and even kinda flourishing ... consciousness to come in email to Nathalia K. at Reed et al. ... appreciating too your consciousness in multi-modalities. (Google would be a good platform to build out of re philosophy of mind consciousness research, underground, as well as re languages especially - and even per brain research from the Harbin Hot Springs' warm pool with a HUMM head band with sensors developing to study neural processes, happiness and bliss especially, and then transmitting wirelessly into a realistic virtual earth with species and individuals - am thinking Google Streetview with TIME SLIDER / Maps / Earth / TensorFlow / Translate ... with Second Life for avatar bots, but realistic ones, not cartoon-esque).

What's an academic reference or two for "the ethnographic study of the Saline Valley Hot Springs" you mention? This next actual-virtual Harbin book project of mine will emerge out of - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/02/blue-borage-4th-harbin-hot-springs.html (see, too, for ex. http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/07/syzygium-harbin-hot-springs-book.html) - and I touch explicitly on this next book project in my blog here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/03/queen-angelfish-before-stanford.html (with other related 'explicit' entries in same blog) - with a focus too on ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy, a new social science method I'm developing. My first physical-digital Harbin ethnography is here ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~ and check out too the Harbin Gate in this realistic virtual earth ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg and "amble" down the road "4 miles" to "walk" around Middletown, California ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ . Part of the creation of a realistic virtual Harbin and realistic virtual earth - at the atomic and cellular levels too with machine learning - will involve developing approaches for all scientists to earth sciences, geothermal water movement through geology etc (all STEM related digital modeling questions).

...

I inquired with John Hennessy if he would mentor me about 5 weeks ago ... you can read the email here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/06/blue-iguana-mentoring-questions-dear.html - but haven't yet heard back from him. I think he might ... but am waiting and watching, since he's busy (as former President of Stanford for 16 years, and current chair of Alphabet, and a professor as well), and remarkable; John may be helping in the back ground in these regards already re mentoring re the Stanford Law Silicon Valley Directors' Exchange and the WUaS Corp / Press. (Am appreciative of Larry Viehland and to a lesser degree Victor Van Kooten in these regards. Larry's a good listener and smart and chair of the WUaS Board, and, as one of the most active participants in the open WUaS Monthly Business Meeting (in the manner of Friends) we're successfully developing World Univ & Sch baby step after baby step). Victor has much insight Yogically, Dutch-wise, artistically, but also lives far away, although I'd like to be taking more Yoga courses with A & V, (as well as even potentially teaching Yoga a bit, and perhaps newly online ... and possibly re http://www.scottmacleod.com/yoganotations.html ). Careers of mine - professor / president of World University and School, anthropologist/sociologist, poet (re 2 recent books), Yoga instructor, bagpiper (Scottish small pipes). How would you describe your careers, Candace, besides being a great Mom? :)

Might we talk on the phone about the "the exact same kind of grant you have this year.  I have many things to say about that, but it's probably more of a face to face or phone thing"? 412 478 0116 is my number. Shall we figure out a time to talk together ... possibly before WUaS Monthly Business Meeting this Saturday?
Your son Adrian's a rock star - https://youtu.be/l40Tx6tVt7Y - Candace! Cool and well done! :) I had wondered from your previous email whether you might be interested in studying for a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering online at World Univ & Sch with a focus on data and visualization, but perhaps Adrian (or Jason) might at some point too - and with you! Adrian might find opportunities in the future in the WUaS Press / Corp re producing too! Let's get these vacuum robots - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/06/blue-poppy-just-heard-poet-reedie-uc.html - going so they can clean a whole house, and not just vacuum floors soon ... and make them available from the WUaS Press store ... https://twitter.com/WUaSPress & https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Bookstore_/_Computer_Store_(New_%26_Used)_at_WUaS - and in all ~200 countries! :) Interesting to see how you mom your kids as they become adults especially - you're so great Candace!

Thanks for writing, Candace, and hope you didn't get up too early to create your epistle! Looking forward to further communication about all of this and more! (Are you in touch at all with Prof. Nathalia King? And what kind of online lectures - with parallels to Nathalia's talk - have you enjoyed, and could you also envision enjoying together with a friend, a Reedie, or a new Stanford or MIT friend student?:)

Warm regards, Scott

Hallo Peter,

You're on the main page of World Univ & Sch newly - http://worlduniversityandschool.org - thanks to the video we made -

"World Univ & Sch Introduction for German Abitur Students"
http://youtu.be/Yzm3fuulJPs ~

I've significantly changed this front page, and curiously can't start a new page, so have left content I feel is helpful or useful for students and Universitians (including wiki pages)

WorldUnivAndSch is now in Periscope.tv but couldn't find you or create a video yet.

Let's find 500 Abitur students to matriculate online at WUaS per year for free Bachelor's degrees.

Thank you!

Cheers,
Scott

Minutes for World University and School’s June 22, 2019 open monthly business meeting

Present: Larry Viehland (Chair of the Board, CFO), Scott MacLeod (President, CEO, Founder, Presiding Clerk)

1

World University and School needs the $5000 fee to begin the licensing process with the state of California's Bureau of Private Postsecondary (BPPE), which WUaS doesn't have (and which draft is complete).

2

With regard to tax-deductible donations to 501 (c) 3 World University and School, please join me and make a gift to World University and School before June 30th. Thanks, all!

If you are 70 ½ and subject to US taxes, then you can arrange to make a qualified charitable donation from your IRA which relieves you responsibility of paying tax on that money.

If you’re not over 70 ½ you can still consider a donation to World Unvi & Sch as a charitable contribution, and reduce your Schedule A on the order of one third.

The mailing address is on World University and School’s Guidestar page - https://www.guidestar.org/profile/27-3105368.

3

"One Today” which is the Google Suite Donor Application is activated for World University and School, but still not functional - https://onetoday.google.com/. For example, World Univ & Sch couldn't add our Guidestar profile - Guidestar.org/profile/27-3105368 - which 'One Today' asked for. (“Google One Today is a free app for mobile devices … “ - https://www.google.com/nonprofits/offerings/google-donation-tools.html).

Joi Ito's
THE RESPONSIBILITY OF IMMORTALITY: WELCOME TO THE NEW TRANSHUMANISM

Here's the MIT Media Lab director Joi Ito's article on longevity I mentioned re the promise of gene editing research and longevity - https://web.archive.org/web/20180605002848/https://www.wired.com/story/the-responsibility-of-immortality/ - and while all the other versions of this article online that I looked for, including the main Wired version, seem to be no longer accessible, this Webarchive.org version contains the idea that Harvard researcher George Church is doing gene editing research now with dogs, having moved on from mice, as well as mentioning 9 main scientific appoaches to longevity:

"He is currently experimenting with age reversal in dogs using gene therapy that has been successful in mice, a technique he believes is the most promising of nine broad approaches to mortality and aging—genome stability, telomere extension, epigenetics, proteostasis, caloric restriction, mitochondrial research, cell senescence, stem cell exhaustion, and intercellular communication."

I've also updated this blog entry - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/06/koi-longevity-mit-media-lab-eternal.html - also in this tweet - https://twitter.com/scottmacleod/status/1004033825691717632 - with this article's new web site address. And I just added this article to the Longevity wiki subject - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Longevity - at World Univ & Sch as well.

The Future of  Xapiens -
Xapiens at MIT was live.

On March 7th, 2019 Xapiens, MIT's first initiative for human augmentation, brought together titans of science, innovation and engineering, intellectuals and industry leaders to imagine, envision and discuss the future of Homo Sapiens.

We were happy to welcome Pattie Maes, Max Tegmark, David Sinclair, George Church, Ed Boyden, and Joe Paradiso for a series of lectures and a panel discussion.

The future of our species will be majorly influenced by the technical advancements and ethical paradigm shifts over the next several decades. Artificial intelligence, neural enhancement, gene editing, solutions for aging and interplanetary travel, and other emerging technologies are bringing sci-fi’s greatest ideas to reality.

Dear Lynn, Angela, Victor and Satya!

Dartington Hall is so very beautiful, Angela! Wonderful that you'll be teaching there together, Victor and Satya!

And you're teaching there on Bastille Day no less - http://www.angela-victor.com/content/schedule. Sounds like the opportunity for storming! :)

And it hosts the Schumacher College - https://www.schumachercollege.org.uk - which I had thought was started before 1990, - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schumacher_College - although E.F. Schumacher wrote Small is Beautiful in 1973 -

It looks too like its possible at the Schumacher College -  https://www.schumachercollege.org.uk/about - to do a very DEEP TIME WALK _ https://www.deeptimewalk.org - albeit in an App. Have you ever walked in Deep Time, Angela and Victor?

Wish I could be there, but MIT OpenCourseWare-centric and wiki World University and School, which I'm developing, is still in the poor house ... one of these days, our fortunes will change ... and voila, further Yoga learning world-wide too.

Happy teaching in Dartington Hall! (It would be nice to see you again, Satya!) And nice to see you Lynn last week in Yakima, Washington, on my way from Reed College to eastern Oregon to visit family. 3 Harbin-inspired books so far - https://amazon.com/author/scottmacleodworlduniversity - which also posts my quite active blog ... :)

Warm regards, Scotty

Dear Mr. Roddy MacLeod, and the National Piping Centre,

Greetings from the San Francisco Bay Area! I'm writing to inquire whether it might be possible please to study with you (or possibly Finlay MacDonald) on Scottish Small Pipes, if I were to sign up for Skype lessons?

I've played the Great Highland Bagpipe, and now the SSP for about 5 years, (giving up the GHB due to an ear condition) for more than 40 years, and also have specific tunes I'd like to develop. Thank you. And I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely, Scott MacLeod
SF Bay Area

Thought you all might be interested in the TV story on Cuttyhunk Island (where John was the summer pastor for 33 years) that is scheduled to appear on the CBS Evening News tonight   (at 6:30 EST on your local CBS affiliate ).   Typically, Steve Hartman's segments appear toward the end of the half-hour news.    Hope you enjoy it--as I'm sure I will!

Love,
Carmen

Dear Carmen, Paula, Janie (my mother), and All,

Thanks so much for sharing about this Cuttyhunk Airing on CBS News on Friday night. I wasn't able to see the presentation.

Is this it - https://www.cbsnews.com/news/cuttyhunk-island-massachusetts-jenny-slate-graduation-remote-island-schools-last-student-graduates/ ? Great to see a bunch of old friends at 1:24 minutes (Hi David Thurston! :). What an amazing community in the Cuttyhunk church here!

And might Gwen want to head to MIT OpenCourseWare-centric 'The College at World University and School" online -
https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/The_College_at_World_University_and_School - after she graduates from high school, and studying from Cuttyhunk? :) Carter, too? (WUaS is planning home robotics for college engineering degrees, and building on Lego Robotics, with the Scratch drag-and-drop programming language, also out of MIT!).

(Check out the Engineering and Robotics' wiki subjects here, for example - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects).

Just revamped World Univ & Sch's front page - http://worlduniversityandschool.org - significantly. And our web platform is further in development.

See some of you in the second half of July on Gosnold's Isle!

Warm regards, Scott
If anyone's interested, I have an active 'Cuttyhunk' blog label happening here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/Cuttyhunk - with 112 'entries' in it presently; some of which are more Cuttyhunk-focused than others, so it can be worth 'digging' back.

Hi M,

How are you, and how is your weekend going?

This Google Streetview 'walk thru' of the incredibly beautiful road near Mill Valley, CA, which I called you from yesterday, doesn't do it justice, but it's still pretty cool here -
https://www.google.com/maps/place/305+Marion+Ave,+Mill+Valley,+CA+94941/@37.9034614,-122.5552145,3a,75y,47.2h,90t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sEEfJvBrKOtlIJ_WJkyFNoQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192!4m5!3m4!1s0x8085906b776df717:0xc0680415a78b5403!8m2!3d37.903761!4d-122.55502 'Walk around' here. :) And sometime maybe we can visit it together in person. .... It was very amazing.

Mount Tamalpais exploring yesterday~so beautiful! Came upon Sierra trailhead then hiking trail

If I find my way to beginning a family, there's a number of reasons I'd think of moving back to Pgh including this Piping School (for my kids to learn in) - https://balmoralschoolofpiping.org/ - and especially for proximity to Cuttyhunk, - as well as 'safety and civility.'

Heard an amazing Master class this morning at Stanford with Scot Alasdair Tait who lives in London - so fast, so insightful, such great interactive metaphors for the amazing mostly student Stanford chamber musicians he was working with. Hope to be in touch further with him about World Univ & Sch's Music school -  https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Music_School. He's also a psychodynamic psychotherapist his Wikipedia article said - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alasdair_Tait - and he was amazing today in the SLSQ CHAMBER MUSIC SEMINAR: Opening Masterclass
 - https://events.stanford.edu/events/841/84168/ - he gave.

Just emailed yesterday evening the Principal of the National Piping Centre, Roddy MacLeod in Glasgow, to inquire about lessons with him. See too - https://twitter.com/TheOpenBand/status/1142668818130468864. Am curious almost with regard too to Roddy (or someone there) to become somehow a producer for my piping CD next year in addition to lessons.  (https://twitter.com/scottmacleod/status/1142668500667785222 too). See my email to Roddy below.

More about the Cuttyhunk Airing after I get the WUaS monthly business meeting minutes out.

L, Scott
