I suppose the guy moving in the MIT video -

https://twitter.com/techreview/status/1190378112787402753 - could be doing a Pas de Basque (the setting step in Scottish Country Dancing) eventually as well ... and then the robot would do it concurrently ... so all you SCD teachers, how to teach the guy at MIT to do a Pas de Basque bound as he is with those cables while teaching the robot to jump up and down - and from out here in California in Skype one-to-one or group video even (but him not connected at first to the robot)? :)

And if the robot were Lego - how do we create a Lego robot like this robot in MIT photo - we would be teaching Lego robots to dance.

And potentially we will be able to sculpt Lego robotics to create beautiful moving human forms – Pygmalion-like? – and then into the Harbin warm pool, or bath tub, together with robot, connected by some kind of cables, and teaching it to dance.

And then if this all happened in a realistic virtual Harbin – avatar bot of you or of me, realistic, and teaching the virtual Lego robot which we made and sculpted …

Glad too to be in touch yesterday and today with 2 new Swedish friends in Sweden through the Wikidata office hour yesterday morning (in Telegram):

Magnus (Sälgö)
and
Carl-Johan (Sveningsson)

...both are sympaticos, smart and familiarly connectable in a normal way (not always the case in some Wikidata / Wikimedia circles ... or in California ... am curious how to build better sociality into my life ... but recognize George's realism here too ... )

World Univ & Sch is in Wikidata, a "back end" structured knowledge database for Wikipedia in 300 languages, which WUaS is in too.

Am exploring much re World Univ & Sch in Wikidata with them re very big ideas, and they're both coders, and probably fairly settled Wikidatans / Wikimedians' in Sweden ... They're interesting big idea conversations ... (enjoy:)

salgo60@msn.com is my.... I am not sure if WIkitree is the best place...
+ they have a big user community
- quality could be excellent to very very bad
- they have an old WIki platform
+ they have an excellent technical person Ales who creates report every week of quality
-/+ the owner of WikiTree Chris is nice / shy / and not so technical

I spent 2-3 years at WikiTree before joining Wikidata.-..... I had today little dialogue with Ales because of a POC I did see https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T236340 that crashed his checks 😉 and now we request a new property https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Wikidata:Property_proposal/WikiTreeCategories

Scott GK MacLeod, [05.11.19 10:10]
Thanks, Magnus! ... World Univ & Sch, in planning for 7.5 billion people as wiki Universitians, each a Wikidata Q-item #, seeks to explore developing 1) 7.5 billion wiki WUaS Universitians in all 7111 known living languages, each a wiki teacher or learner  2) Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records and for genetic therapies too, and 3) universal basic income experiments in each of all ~200 countries and 7,000 languages ... in addition to 7.5 billion people in something like WikiTree (which is envisioning this). Shall we communicate in email together with Ales as well?

Magnus Sälgö, [05.11.19 10:12]
cool ..... one noce integration you have in smaller scale is https://bloodhound-tracker.net/roster they use Wikidata Qnumber and ORCID to identify people,.... code on GITHUB https://bloodhound-tracker.net/developers

very cool ... in that there may be 3-100 million species, and many further individual living organisms, and so many more individual specimens, how to plan for Wikidata Q-items for all, where appropriate ... bloodhound may be a great beginning together with WikiTree and? Big cheers, Scott :)😊(worlduniversityandschool.orgscottmacleod.com) ... nice to be in communication!

Just glanced at all of these ... am curious about all 7.5 billion living people, each a Wikidata Qitem #, with genetic information, for longevity genetic information and even re CRISPR gene editing in a realistic virtual earth (am thinking Google Street View / Google Poly with Second Life but realistic at cellular and atomic levels) in Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records (for all 7.5 billion people) (apologies that I don't speak Swedish😀)

Wikidata related things are normaly on Phabricator https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/project/profile/71/

Scott GK MacLeod, [05.11.19 11:26]
Simply keeping Lydia informed ... how could your Swedish churches project - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/project/profile/3477/ - inform a realistic virtual earth (am thinking Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth / TensorFlow / Translate with group buildable Second Life with avatar bots, but realistic, and even for architectural design?)

Magnus Sälgö, [05.11.19 11:31]
Lydia you can keep out of the loop... see take cares of the plattform Wikidata....

Dont understand your question about churches.... you have
* Church parishes in Sweden https://github.com/salgo60/Svenskaforsamlingar
* the person who did Cambridge Analytica Paul-Olivier Dehaye did use WIkibase and Kepler.... for time visualisation https://blog.factgrid.de/archives/1695
  * https://github.com/keplergl/kepler.gl

Scott GK MacLeod, [05.11.19 11:59]
Thnx, am envisioning a #realistic virtual earth for everything - architecture too, and remodeling - including genetics.  Think Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth / TensorFlow / Translate with group buildable Second Life with avatar bots, but realistic. How to add all these churches into Street View with time slider start developing them in 3d? E.g. vist the Harbin Hot Springs' gatehouse in Street View here ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg (accessible from https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ) and check out the various years of Gatehouse pictures. There are 3 photos of the Harbin Gatehouse: 1 from 2012, 1 from 2001 which I added to SV in around 2009, and a new Harbin gatehouse from 2019. Could we turn Swedish churches into 3D at different times in history, and even enter into them as avatar bots (re Second Life) and sing in a choir from 1852 or 1901, for example, - in this realistic virtual earth for history / architecture and interactivity? This is what World Univ & Sch is seeking to grow, and even a realisticvirtualearthforrobotics with Brick Street View which Einar Oberg in Sweden created around 2014 (all brainstorming-wise) - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForRobotics?src=hashtag_click - and re Lego Robotics for actual-virtual, physical-digital developments.

Magnus Sälgö, [05.11.19 13:10]
Have you seen the Wikibase installation that is used for pictures in Wikipedia..... they support now Linked data i.e. you can then rather easy  classify pictures and also mark what part of a pictures a person is shown in....

Scott GK MacLeod, [05.11.19 13:32]
Am going to begin re-Tweeting some of your Tweets at https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ... Because Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth / Poly are relatively far along (And founder of Wikidata Denny Vrandecic, for ex., works at Google), would I be able to add images (or videos) data from Wikidata / Wikibase to Google Street View, do you think?

Magnus Sälgö, [05.11.19 13:38]
[ Photo ]
"add images (or videos) data from Wikidata / Wikibase to Google Street View, do you think?" I guess you can create your own layer....

but you can rather easu do SPARQL and display on a map in Wikidata ex. people died and have graves at Arlington..... https://w.wiki/BXJ

Scott GK MacLeod, [05.11.19 14:09]
Will seek to look into this ... am thinking it will be easier to soak in the virtual Harbin Hot Springs' warm pool from home in bathtub while visiting Harbin from Street View than in Wikidata map ... and for actual-virtual comparative Harbin ethnographic research by many as well!

Scott GK MacLeod, [05.11.19 14:10]

Magnus I just want to introduce you to @Carl-JohnSveningsson ... do you know each other? You're both active in Wikidata in Sweden ... and potentially re both 7.5 billion people, each a Wikidata Q-item, as well as a realistic virtual earth for everything with Wikidata data, ie with your Swedish churches' project (conceptually like Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth / TensorFlow / Translate with 7.5 billion avatar bots reprsenting all of us, and for medicine, and at the cellular and atomic levels too).

And with Carl-Johan:

Carl-Johan Sveningsson, [06.11.19 12:25]
I'm interested in your message about 7.5 B people in Wikidata

Scott GK MacLeod, [06.11.19 12:35]
Hi Carl-Johan, Besides thinking in terms of WikiTree's goal of a single family tree, see - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/09/aquatic-plant-mine-pi-from-faqs-what-is.html - for the 3 initial ways that MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School is exploring developing in Wikidata for all 7.5 billion people, each a Wikidata Q item (and WUaS donated itself to Wikidata in 2015 for co-development, and received WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki in 2017, but they're still not interoperable). WUaS is planning to develop online major universities in all ~200 countries' official languages, and wiki schools for open teaching and learning in all 7,111 known living languages, - and seeks to build out from speakers in all these languages to all 7.5 billion people. Cheers, Scott (scottmacleod.com and worlduniversityandschool.org)

Carl-Johan Sveningsson, [06.11.19 12:36]
Thanks, I'll check it out!

Carl-Johan Sveningsson, [06.11.19 12:37]
This is a very very compressed view of what I'm into: https://twitter.com/unclecj/status/1188393993475969024?s=21

Scott GK MacLeod, [06.11.19 12:39]
Great, and thanks as well! (WUaS seeks to develop further in 3 platforms: CC-4 MIT OCW in 5 languages, Google / Alphabet in its 100 languages in Translate and with TensorFlow too, and in Wikidata / Wikibase in its ~300 languages ). Will check out what you're into. (See, too - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1188152443386777601)

Carl-Johan Sveningsson, [06.11.19 12:42]
Mhmm! ☺️ It seems obvious to me that wikimedia genealogy won't happen in that precise shape and form - there's too much work, too many competitors and alternatives, and the world isn't standing still either. But it's the field I keep an eye on (+ genetics, if it isn't already mentioned there)

Scott GK MacLeod, [06.11.19 12:46]
WikiTree is interesting in these regards, since it's wiki, it has a vision of "Together we're growing an accurate single family tree using DNA and traditional genealogical sources" (https://www.wikitree.com/), as well as privacy, and particularly because it's focusing on DNA (like in the US Ancestry.com and 23andme.com re practicality of aggregating end users' DNA, for ex) ... WUaS is seeking to develop for all 7.5 billion people each a Wikidata Q-item number, and with much wiki-collaborative potential.

Scott GK MacLeod, [06.11.19 13:01]
One interesting question I'm working on is how to develop MIT OCW-centric World Univ & Sch in Swedish in Sweden? The idea from MIT Prof. Hiroshi Ishii Bot is posted at the top here now - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch
(https://twitter.com/ishii_mit_BOT/status/1192169950963585025)  ... and here's the beginning of Sweden WUaS - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Sweden - not yet in Swedish.

Scott GK MacLeod, [06.11.19 13:03]
... so how to develop online MIT in Swedish in Sweden for free-to-students' Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, MD and I.B. high school degrees at wiki WUaS?

Carl-Johan Sveningsson, [06.11.19 13:03]
I'll bring it to someone if they come to mind 👍🏼

Carl-Johan Sveningsson, [06.11.19 13:04]
Though Swedish education is at least free from tuition...

Scott GK MacLeod, [06.11.19 13:05]
Thanks  - CC-4 MIT OCW's 2500 courses in English ( and in 4 other languages currently, but with more to come) translated into Swedish ... would be a very unique STEM contribution to Sweden ...  :)

Scott GK MacLeod, [06.11.19 13:10]
And as a followup, it's here in You at WUaS - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University - that WUaS will explore developing everyone - 7.5 billion people - each a Wikidata Q item, beginning with registering students.

Scott GK MacLeod, [06.11.19 13:11]
(And this is an example of WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki page not yet interoperable with WUaS in Wikidata's 300 languages).

Scott GK MacLeod, [06.11.19 13:54]
Carl-Johan, as one further follow up" As precedent re privacy, it could be worth You at WUaS in Wikidata building on WikiTree's approach, as well as Ancestry.com and 23andMe's approaches, as well as even Kaiser Permanente Medical System's in many states in the USA approaches to privacy (and legally as well, and in ~200 countries' official languages). I'm taking the 32,000 foot in flight approach in planning for all 7.5 billion people, each a Wikidata Q-item # and at World Univ & Sch. I think Wikidata could make this practical as a start. Am glad to be currently communicating with coder and Wikimedian / Wikidatan Magnus Sälgö in Sweden who was recently in email communication with Ales at WikiTree ... This situation calls for statistics and machine learning when you start thinking in terms of 3-100 million species, and non-living organisms therein ... which lots of researchers study genetically these days in a variety of ways, and further re archaeological research + evolutionary biology research +++ 😊

Scott GK MacLeod, [06.11.19 13:55]
WUaS is planning 'Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records' for our ~200 online Medical Schools and online teaching hospitals - see blog entry I sent earlier - and for ex. Kaiser Permanente privacy and re genetic therapies - seems like an especially good building blocks

*

Carl-Johan I just want to introduce you to @Magnus Salgo (sorry I don't have Swedish accents) ... do you know each other? You're both active in Wikidata in Sweden ... and potentially re both 7.5 billion people, each a Wikidata Q-item, as well as a realistic virtual earth for everything with Wikidata data (conceptually like Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth / TensorFlow / Translate with 7.5 billion avatar bots reprsenting all of us, and for medicine, and at the cellular and atomic levels too).

Carl-Johan Re your inquiring about 7.5 billion people, and your mentioning taxation earlier here, - in seeking to create a Wikidata Q-item for all 7.5 billion people, and also for Universal Basic Income EXPERIMENTS, potentially as a way to distribute a single cryptocurreny in most of all ~200 countries and their official languages, am interested brainstorming-wise in exploring building out of Intuit's TurboTax and similar, potentially developed in many of these countries anew, and as a standard which tax authorities could develop their own IT infrastructure for taxation with. What do you think @Carl-Johan, @Lydia_Pintscher, Wikidatans?

Hi All, Wikidata's office hour in the new Telegram format looks promising. Chat with you soon! :) - Scott

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 08:54]
Office hour starts in exactly 9min :)

Melderick, [05.11.19 08:56]
:)

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:03]
Hello everyone and welcome to the office hour, first of its kind on Telegram!

Lucas Werkmeister, [05.11.19 09:03]
\o/

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:03]
Lydia and I will moderate this session during the next 60 minutes :)

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:03]
\o/

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:03]
Just to be very transparent, the discussions happening here and until I tell the bot to shut down and leave will be recorded, the notes will be transferred on wiki

Scott GK MacLeod, [05.11.19 09:04]
:)

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:04]
So, here's how it work: Lydia and I will present what happened in the Wikidata team since the last office hour (July 2019), both from the development and non development side

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:04]
We'll also tell you about what's coming next

Jan Ainali, [05.11.19 09:05]
can anyone stop the bot if they happen to write the magic phrase?

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:05]
of course, feel free to interact with us during this part. But just so you know, the second part of the session (~30min) will be left for questions and discussions, so you'll have time for that :)

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:05]
[In reply to Jan Ainali]
it is a command starting with / and continuing with the word finish, so just don't type this command :)

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:06]
Alright, let's start with what happened on the development side of things!

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:06]
Yes!

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:06]
So a lot of things happened over the past quarter and some.

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:06]
The biggest thing is probably the Wikidata Bridge. It'll help make it possible to edit Wikidata directly from Wikipedia.

Scott GK MacLeod, [05.11.19 09:07]
Great!

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:07]
WE're currently developing it and we'll soon be at the point where it makes sense for you to have a look. It'll still take quite some time until it will be deployed.

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:08]
Once that is deployed I hope we'll see a lot more (and useful) edits from Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects.

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:08]
We also deployed the new termbox for mobile. That's the box at the top of an Item page that shows you the label, description and aliases in different languages.

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:08]
Before you couldn't see that and edit it on mobile. Now you can \o/

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:10]
Another thing that we're working on is tainted references. When editing a value on Wikidata there is nothing prompting you to also change the reference if needed. This is a problem because sometimes people have new values but leave an old reference. In the future you'll get a little notification prompting you to think if the reference should be updated as well.

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:10]
You'll be able to test that in the next weeks as well.

Envel Le Hir, [05.11.19 09:10]
\o/

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:10]
Then we did huge work under the hood to make our codebase better but also make loading of Item pages faster.

Jan Ainali, [05.11.19 09:11]
[In reply to Lydia Pintscher]
The timeline on [[mw:Wikidata Bridge]] lacks details after this very month. Are there plans that are not published yet?

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:11]
Another thing that might be interesting for you is a new dashboard that takes a look at the languages on Wikidata: https://wmdeanalytics.wmflabs.org/WD_LanguagesLandscape/

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:12]
[In reply to Jan Ainali]
Ah sorry. Léa and I were simply busy with WikidataCon and that slipped.

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:12]
There should be an update before the end of the month.

Juli A., [05.11.19 09:12]
[In reply to Lydia Pintscher]
Yay! :)

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:13]
And last but not least the structured data team at the WMF has continued rocking on Commons with the rollout of for example Lua support and a first beta query service

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:13]
And with that I had over to Léa again :)

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:14]
Yeah! First of all, Wikidata got a new admin: user:1997kB. Welcome on board!

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:14]
Then, summer/fall was the season of events and conferences :)

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:14]
Let's start with Wikimania that took place in August. We met plenty of cool people, run interviews about Wikidata Bridge, the Wikidata and Wikibase related sessions were packed as usual

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:15]
We also had a documentation translation sprint, to translate the Wikidata help pages into more languages. This effort is still running, so if you're speaking a language other than English, feel free to have a look at help pages and see how you can make them more accessible to your language community!

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:15]
And thanks to everyone who already participated in this effort :)

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:16]
At Wikimania we also run the now famous Pink Pony session, and participated in an interesting session about problems between Wikidata & Wikipedia. You can find the notes of the Pink Pony session here https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/p/WikidataPPS2019

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:16]

If you want to know more about the organization of the event, the report will follow at the beginning of 2020.

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:17]
But what would be October without the Wikidata birthday? Several celebrations happened and plenty of new tools and features were developed by the community. You can check them all here https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Seventh_Birthday

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:17]
(and you can even start getting ready for the next one \o/ https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Eighth_Birthday )

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:18]
Several regional conferences took place (CEE, French-speaking WikiCon, German-speaking WikiCon) and plenty of sessions related to Wikidata were organized

it's like WEF or Gadget for editing from infoboxes?

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:18]
[In reply to infovarius]
Yes it is trying to solve the same problem for everyone.

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:19]
Different topic now: in August, we published the vision & strategy papers for Wikidata & Wikibase. Interesting to read if you want to understand the "big picture". Feel free to add comments on the wikipage. https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikidata/Strategy/2019

Léa ~ Auregann, [05.11.19 09:20]
As usual, during the last months we got plenty of new tools created by the community, as well as new features on tools. I can't name them all here, but if you want to get updates, the place to go is the Weekly Summary :)

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:33]
As Wikidata has been growing and as the Wikibase Ecosystem became a thing more and more things ended up on my plate and we're at the point now where I simply can't do all the product management work on my own anymore. So we are looking for someone to join me and work on Wikibase. If you know someone who'd be a good fit or maybe even you yourself then please apply! https://wikimedia-deutschland.softgarden.io/job/5246357/Product-Manager-m-f-d-?jobDbPVId=14435788&l=de

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:33]
More on the content side of things:

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:34]
We'll continue working on the Wikidata Bridge and get it to a state where we can roll out the first version to the first wikis hopefully early next year. And of course testing well before that.

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:34]
We'll finish the first version of tainted references and roll that out soon.

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:35]
And I just finished the draft of the description of the first version of Federation and gave it to the team for feedback. If their feedback is good I'll also circle it in the Wikibase mailinglist etc to have some more eyes on it. And then we can start coding on that as well \o/  And then you can have for example Wikidata's properties in your own Wikibase instance without effort \o/

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:36]
And last but not least we'll release the first version of Lua support for lexicographical data.

Lydia Pintscher, [05.11.19 09:36]
And with that we can open the floor for questions and discussions

Not in the first version. In the first version only the person who made the edit will be pestered about it. In a second version later we also plan persistence and showing issues to other editors etc. But I didn't want to have that in the first version because i wasn't sure how people would feel about it.

Dear Larry,

Another interesting aspect about the Modesto Public High School's International Baccalaureate IB degree  - https://mhs.mcs4kids.com/students/programs/international-baccalaureate - is that it's probably free to students, dovetailing with WUaS's CC-4 MIT OCW-centric free-to-students' degrees' focus.

And although WUaS may first license with CA's Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education BPPE for online Bachelor and Ph.D. degrees, first in English, and would therefore be considered a private university in US terms, WUaS could also conceivably collaborate somehow with CA public schools at the high school level - and to offer the IB degree online, first in English - and thereby offer the IB degree online.

And if this were possible, then the state of California could help design the online information technologies to make the IB degree online real, and for STEM subjects especially.

Please remember that the Quaker woman I talked with some years ago near the Berkeley Friends' Meeting House, who taught in Quaker/Friends' and IB schools in Maryland (another synergy that already exists in the IB world), said that the IB at its minimum is 3 lower level classes and 3 upper level high school classes.

And I think that the IB degree offers academic and intellectual opportunities to students that might not exist otherwise in a public high school, that it's therefore a standard, that it's known all over the world, and that it's already in multiple languages.

Am not sure where the IB stands in going online with its related Pamoja Foundation, but the above collaborations suggest that collaborations here are possible too, such as between WUaS / state of CA / and Pamoja, for example. Look, just found some already existing online IB courses - https://www.ibo.org/programmes/diploma-programme/dp-online/diploma-programme-courses-online/ - via Pamoja. Let's connect state of CA with Pamoja through WUaS!

And WUaS might get a lot of our high school graduates into great universities (eg Harvard / MIT / Stanford ), compared to building something just from MIT OCW High School resources - https://ocw-origin.odl.mit.edu/high-school/ ...

Sincerely, Scott

Dear Larry,

1) Glad to see that Ashish Thakur is going to an IB high school - in Modesto, CA, which is a Public High School - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1190334557523828736 (see my Tweet text below re this) - so the CA govt in Sacramento presumably might have a licensing or similar relationship with Modesto High School and re it being IB as well - and CA could conceivably develop a similar relationship with WUaS, only we'd like to develop our IB High Schools online (and WUaS is licensing with BPPE, so as a private school). Ashish is a high achieving Calif high school student and scientist who may be heading to a great college, and I think his sister is a Harvard undergraduate already. Diploma Programme courses online:
  • are two years in duration
  • follow IB course guides
  • meet IB course requirements
  • are formally assessed in the same way as face-to-face courses
  • are taught in accordance with The Diploma Programme: From principles into practice
  • embed theory of knowledge (TOK) into the courses
  • feature practice examinations to prepare students for IB external examinations
  • are taught by experienced IB teachers, who have special training in online pedagogy
  • require approximately the same amount of study time as face-to-face higher and standard level courses.
Empowering the learner is a key feature of the online courses. In online classrooms of approximately 25 students from around the world, teachers introduce weekly lessons, guide discussion and provide feedback to stimulate critical thinking and promote “lifelong learning” habits. IB Diploma Programme courses online offer a truly international, interactive model of teaching and learning.

The Tourism Studies Working Group
is pleased to announce

An Ethnographic Study on Tourism and Heritage Value in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR

Symonekeo SENSATHITH THOMAS (Ph.D)

Former student at Rikkyo University
Former Lecturer at National University of Laos

Friday, 8 November 2019, 5:00 PM  - 7:00 PM
Gifford Room, 221 Kroeber Hall
University of California, Berkeley

This research identifies the relationship between heritage and tourism based on an ethnographic study in the town of Luang Prabang in the Southeast Asia country of Lao PDR. This relationship refers to the emotional affinity derived from the cultural artifacts within the context of their traditional culture and religious practices. The main part of this research discusses tourist impressions of Buddhist religion, experienced by tourists in Luang Prabang town. In addition, this research attempts to provide a new perspective on interaction between tourists, local residents and local culture to create a 'heritage value', a new term in the field of cultural heritage tourism. This research shows how 'heritage value' contributes to the local economy by attracting tourist revenues that then sustain the local culture itself, resulting in both tourism development and heritage preservation. This research depicts the local life styles and how they utilize traditional houses, local architectures and handicrafts from variety of ethnic groups to create 'heritage value'.

Dr. Symonekeo Sensathith Thomas recently relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area from the People's Democratic Republic of Lao (Laos) where she served for 14 years on the faculty of social sciences of the National University of Lao as both a lecturer in the subjects of cultural tourism and international relations and as the deputy head of the research division. In 2014 she was a visiting professor at Mahidol University, Thailand, and Sejong University, South Korea. In addition to teaching, Dr. Symonekeo frequently presents papers in international conferences on World Heritage cultural sites and trains and consults for international organization including the World Bank, UNESCO and international non-governmental organizations.

Dr. Symonekeo holds a Ph.D.in Cultural Heritage Tourism from Rikkyo University, Japan (2010-2013) where her dissertation topic was: "Ethnographic Study of Heritage and Tourism in Luang Prabang, Laos". She also received a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto, Japan (2007-2009) and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations, the Institute for International Relation of Vietnam (1999-2003), specialized in the field of international economics.

Hi Symonkeo (and Greg),

Thanks for your great UC Berkeley tourism studies talk.

Here's the beginning of Lao World University and School -

And here's the blog post - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/11/wattles-acacia-spp-ib-school-in-modesto.html - I mentioned with IB high school diploma which World Univ & Sch seeks to develop in Laotian eventually.

Thank you again for your very edifying talk.

Hi Symonkeo, Juliet, Greg and All, (Symonkeo, can you please forward this too to Greg?),

Thanks again for your excellent and far-reaching talk on Lao 'heritage value' re the ethnography of tourism there:

An Ethnographic Study on Tourism and Heritage Value in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR

Juliet, which Wilden book title about the Belgium psychoanalyst, Jacques Lacan MD, did you mention again -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Wilden? Here's the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy's entry on Lacan - https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/lacan/

Symonkeo, does any form of psychoanalysis, or psychoanalytic MD psychiatry, exist in Lao that you know of - and in the Laotian language? It can be a boon in times of rapid modernization.

Greg, here's some information about the Stanford Law China Guiding Cases Project - https://international.stanford.edu/info/news/china-guiding-cases-project-stanford-law-school and https://cgc-store.law.stanford.edu/pages/about. And here's the beginning China Law School at World University and School ... China Law School at WUaS: https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/China_Law_School_at_WUaS (accessible from - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Law_School). Shall we create something similar for Laos World University and School, and beginning too with https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/translated-courses/

And Greg, what's your email address/LinkedIn (my LI is https://www.linkedin.com/in/scottgkmacleod/)?

Thanks again, Symonekeo, for your edifying Lao ethnographic 'heritage value' talk!

Best,
Scott

PS
I find Lacan's public demonstration of psychoanalysis with a young French hippy (I'll call him) in 1971 fascinating and edifying:

As part of the planned online WUaS medical schools, WUaS is planning to create online psychiatry and psychoanalytic schools -
- perhaps developing a new school of Psychoanalysis and potentially in many of Wikipedia's ~300 languages, and with avatar bots eventually even.

Hallo Peter,

Maybe at the same time you could explore VIRTUALLY making the first PC ever from 1974 from a kit, the Altair 8800 (named after the dog or a stellar destination in the Star Trek TV show), and which I teach about in my course - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html

Searched on

Popular Mechanics 1974 article Altair 8800

Found, but not the article itself yet -

I've put in hard drives and RAM into MacBook's before, but never any further self-computer building.

Searched too via Google online for build your own laptop, but nothing professional came up.
Who makes your computer kit / DIY computer? Is it a laptop? Is the manual with which to build your computer a booklet, or is it online? Are there design-manual simulations we could develop in a realistic virtual earth - as a virtual design manual with 1-1 physical-digital correspondence potential?

Another WUaS idea ...

Shall we
eventually get such CR-rated top laptop  computers at WUaS for distribution to English-speaking German students for autumn 2020+ and via the WUaS bookstore, refurbished to start? ... brainstorming wise

Cheers,
Scott

There are a couple further categories of computer ratings (eg 14 inch Laptops etc) in this December 1, 2019 issue of CR.

But for a view from America's west coast (and CR is based in NY, and we all own it), and if one chooses one of these machines from a few years ago, one often can find good value.

I got a refurbished 2014 Apple MacBook Air 13-inch laptop some years ago, and it works fine, and is so far very reliable. Vielleicht hast du bereits einen neuen Computer bekommen.

Hi Jim,

Here's the actual video of the Harvard panel:

Ethics of the Digital Transformation (Webcast)

https://youtu.be/83zjx0k2fTw
https://cyber.harvard.edu/events/ethics-digital-transformation-webcast
J Hofmann,
M Liao,
M Nobles,
W Schulz,
E Weber-Guskar,
Frank-Walter Steinmeier,
Urs Gasser,
CS Yang,
Harvard Law/BKC & Governance of Artificial Intelligence Initiative > /Ethics

Am curious with regard to this Harvard panel about the QUALITY of translation and re "Z inspection ..." ... Translation quality would have significant impact in any hypothetical "Z-inspection ... " (but although I understood Frank-Walter Steinmeier's live presentation in German, I can't compare here because there's an overdub in English) ... and cross-ecosystem (a Roberto Zicari idea ...) ...

And re my IBM CSIG Universal Translator talk - https://youtu.be/f48b0Z4VffQ - re World Univ & Sch plans for translation -
05 May (2016)Scott MacLeod“A Universal Translator as a Cognitive System, beginning as a Guidebook with Test”World University and SchoolSlidesRecor
http://cognitive-science.info/community/weekly-update/ - (between Wikidata's 300 languages and between all 7111 known living languages), focusing on quality for such hypothetical ethics' AI questions (and 'inspections' !) would be potentially valuable.

With this example -

Gerd Moe-Behrens
@GerdMoeBehrens
Uber self-driving car involved in fatal crash couldn't detect jaywalkers

  https://twitter.com/GerdMoeBehrens/status/1192200486021144582

... how would a hypothetical retroactive "Z inspection ... " work?

Here again is my blog entry soon after Roberto Zicari's recent IBM CSIG talk - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/11/kea-where-are-object-database-systems.html .

Hi M,

Very nice to talk. And your book looks 'lovely and lyrical' - "Emma Hooper’s book about Newfoundland, Our Homesick Songs, is ‘lovely and lyrical’" ... https://www.thestar.com/entertainment/books/reviews/2018/08/03/emma-hoopers-book-about-newfoundland-our-homesick-songs-is-lovely-and-lyrical.html ... I don't think such a lovely and lyrical book has been written about St. Kilda. But maybe a realistic virtual earth will opportunity to create lovely and lyrical 'ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy' as a new form of 'writing' even :) ...

Just sent David the following:

Hi David,

Great to hear you're super busy with work in the DC area. I just spoke with my mother, and it looks like she'd like to head to Washington for possibly 2 nights, and she mentioned the 26th and 27th, so if we can find an Air BnB with your helpful thinking, and if you're going to be in town it would be really great to see you. (My mother is also hoping to see her cousin Karen Leighty, and visit some museums in your amazing city for this - all interesting from my perspective as well).
Hoping we overlap as well.

Cheers, Scott

Looks like Catherine Ashcroft (whom I mentioned living in the NW of England), whose 1 Youtube  I admire much in particular, playing the Uilleann pipies -

Catherine Ashcroft & Maurice Dickson (Mochara) - Táimse im' Chodladh/King of the Pipers
https://youtu.be/P40YOU8ggJk - with her Mochara musical partner, is 'with' Steven Johnston, another piper / musician and reed maker, another musical partner/boyfriend - and in the NW of England. Catherine and Steven appear to make a good couple. Perhaps I will connect similarly here in the SF Bay Area with a good fit!

Am curious about the psychology of my bagpiping ... and the ways a teacher will open ways in these regards ... Possibly Finlay .... who's teaching I enjoy ... on with recording for learning here ... as I seek a partner who might be both musical, as well as listen in unique connecting ways ... and possibly what I texted you recently ...

How was your day? One hope re upcoming piping House Concert. SINCE it's near Open Band at St. Clement's in a nice house, if a 28 yo musician came, might she come play in on Mondays, (might she have gone to Oberlin or high achieving college), might someone like Barbara have talked with her, might we even play together in other contexts + ... and might we have coffee ? :)

PS Just announced to the WUaS Board that next Saturday is the Annual Meeting for WUaS.

PPS I also just emailed a number of UC Berkeley Anthropology faculty members with regard to introducing the Laotian speaker from Friday evening with UC Berkeley Prof. Aiwha Ong, a formed professor of mine, and originally from Malaysia, see - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/11/drooping-she-oak-allocasuarina.html  - and perhaps this will open ways for WUaS to collaborate with the University of California.

Looking forward to seeing  and traveling with you over Christmas, M!

Hi Ma,

Nice to talk again last night.

After your mentioning in Emma Hooper's book "Our Homesick Songs" those Newfoundland towns that ran out of fish and therefore food and had to be evacuated, and our also talking about St. Kilda (Hirta) off of the west coast of Scotland and its evacuation, and my Univ of Edinburgh's Master's thesis in 2003-2004 on St. Kilda as virtual place, I wanted to find out more about what a "Factor" (in Scotland) is, since I had mentioned that MacLeods at Dunvegan were the Factors of St. Kilda. So a Factor is a property manager - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Factor_(Scotland) ... and St. Kilda had a Factor's house I just learned here - https://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/research/learning/features/stories-from-st-kilda ... which all makes more sense now (compared with the 'tax collector' idea - see my 2012 description below).

Per your question last night, here's a description of my engagement with St. Kilda academically in 2003-2004 from 2012 in my blog (https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2012/09/macleod-piping-stories-traditions-and.html):

Scotland 2003-2004

I lived in Scotland in 2003-2004 studying at the University of Edinburgh in the School of Celtic and Scottish Studies on the very picturesque George Square at the University of Edinburgh.

Gary West, who does the BBC Pipeline Radio show, was my adviser.

My focus of study in Edinburgh was St. Kilda, the island archipelago off the west coast of Scotland, for which the MacLeods were the factors, or tax-collectors. I was interested in studying St. Kilda as a kind of virtual place on the world wide web, which people could visit at the National Trust for Scotland's web site. I wanted to think through whether people were visiting a virtual site via the internet.

So when I went to visit actual St. Kilda, which is the largest island archipelago at the greatest distance from Britain, which you can only get to by hiring a boat, I also went to Dunvegan Castle again, for the 3rd time.

There's no ferry or anything to St. Kilda, it's so remote. St. Kildans, many MacLeods included, were birders. They made their living by rappelling from the steep cliffs of St. Kilda, and capturing Gannets, Puffins and Fulmars, by hand I think – at least back 2000 or so years.

And St. Kilda, was evacuated by the British government in 1930, when its population had dwindled to around 30 people. At its most populous, St. Kildans numbered around 180 in the late 1700s.

What the MacLeods as factors came over a rough sea annually to collect was a share of these oily birds.

(And with regards to how you signed off last night, I'm reminded that fish and food metaphors for women seem in the air here in California as well. I hope in my whistle-blowing that California law will be observed with regard too to the sex trade re these questions (re Stanford too?). Let the sex trade operate under legal auspices, for example, in Nevada and the Netherlands; what goes on under-the-radar culture or discourse-wise sometimes comes to light eventually, and it can be media-attention that can limit or lessen the illegal sex trade, for example. Ethics' questions seem 'operative' here as well. And perhaps in a realistic virtual earth / realistic virtual Harbin, with avatar bots, societies, countries and legal systems will be able to address such questions anew - and re the actual-virtual, physical-digital, and even re law enforcement on-the-ground for example. In my experience, the illegal sex trade brings people down and creates un-great cultural processes ... and can make criminals and victims of people too. Becoming an adult in the 1970s, I'd like to envision a good flourishing society world ... free and and improving ... and to echo IBM's Jim Spohrer re questions of process re Ethical AI, the law is a good place to start. California law has probably improved over the decades as well, even as its limits were stretched ... and can be smart in its regulatory processes. Women are neither food nor fish (and I wrote a feminist theology thesis at Reed), and yet a realistic virtual Harbin Hot Springs may be also a place to explore sexual freedom and creativity as well (but perhaps not Stanford), in addition to developing actual-virtual research approaches to ethnography and STEM. I'm not clear at this stage how all of us will represent such questions iteratively via ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy in a realistic virtual earth for history and anthropology yet (but books and film have paved the way for centuries). )

Your book looks interesting, Ma, ... and good luck getting it read by Wednesday!

I was envisioning a realistic virtual earth in 2003-2004 when I was studying at the University of Edinburgh, pre Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic field work as well. My field site was - https://www.nts.org.uk/visit/places/st-kilda - but back in 2004, and as nascent place you could visit online. So I visited the 360 degree QuickTime surround-videos of specific places on the virtual St. Kilda web site, looked at the pictures of the wildlife, and listened to some bird sounds, and importantly, looked at comments from the online guest book where people had also left their email addresses. As part of my study, I contacted this people with a questionnaire, to inquire if and how they had visited the NTS online St. Kilda virtually as place.  My Edinburgh MSc thesis - http://scottmacleod.com/MacLeod%20Physical%20and%20Online%20St%20Kilda%20A%20%20Comparison%20of%20Senses%20of%20Place%20MSc%20Dissertation%20University%20of%20Edinburgh.pdf

Looked up too the Scottish clan system to learn more, and found https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_clan and https://www.scotclans.com/scottish-clans/the-clan-system/ and https://theculturetrip.com/europe/united-kingdom/scotland/articles/a-brief-history-of-the-scottish-clan-system/ but would appreciate a more pacific interpretation ... Appreciating too that Scotland in these recent centuries is a very civil place, and that the crazed-in-part clan system of yore appears to be history.

All identity-questions in part (and re Manuel Castells'"The Power of Identity," his middle book in his Information Age trilogy, "The Rise of the Network Society" being the first book in the series) I recall too that you and Dad went to the Isle of Skye for your honeymoon in these regards, pre-dating my interest in piping and Scottish Country Dancing in my teens in Pittsburgh, for example. ... On with circulating and seeking a life-partner, perhaps via my outgoing-ness and re meeting friends in groups (here in individualistic California).

Hi M, (and friends),

How's your day going? And how are you?

Am curious how to get out of the Google AI loop besides by adding the disclaimer below ... just walked into Google Starbucks, and Auld Lang Syne and into Joy to the World started playing ... Don't think I'll contact Peter Norvig about this, but Google usually thinks through how to let end users opt out of this kind of stuff ... so perhaps it's an indication of their not thinking this through ... or a new twist in their company's culture ... (if their AI could put together my smartphone with GPS on it, the name "Scott,' and arriving at this Starbucks and playing Auld Lang Syne ... seems plausible ... ) ... So I turned on this Steeleye Span - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PUogwLKJ54 (1975) -  on my laptop which played "Long Lankin" ... where I find the words to many of Steeleye Span's ballads interesting, and a kind of history as well, and also which share an orientation to freedom from oppression even ...

As I think through my piping album for next year 2020 re forward momentum here ... am exploring saying something creatively rather than just playing well and inspiringly these 'Gobies'"Honey in the Bag" (tentative title album / CD) tunes - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/02/gobies-scott-macleods-honey-in-bag-cd.html - but possibly adding lyrics, of potentially that I wrote, eg. this beginning "Boston Tea Party" song ... https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/10/tea-camellia-sinensis-bring-eric.html ... but I may keep CD simple and just play the tunes. However, I may also simply play some of the above tunes slowly on SSP while seeking to sing to some of these SSP tunes that could be good fits. This could get me actively exploring in new ways musically and word-wise in preparation for my album ... I continue to enjoy this folk rock from the early 1970s as a possible thing to come in conversation with.

Fairly big Scottish focus in blog post today - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/11/northern-gannett-virtual-college-stem.html - as well as quite creative virtual science focus, as well as ethics' focus, actually.

Fondly, Scott

HIPAA compliant - Google partners with major US health system gaining access to vast patient data

Dear Rebecca,

I saw your Tweet -
"one of the interesting things about this story is that there is no dispute as to whether this is hipaa compliant (it is) but people are very mad anyway" per https://www.statnews.com/2019/11/11/google-partners-with-major-u-s-health-system-gaining-access-to-vast-patient-data-in-the-process/ ...
https://twitter.com/RebeccaDRobbins/status/1194012092484870144 - posted at the top of Stanford Law Professor Hank Greely's feed - https://twitter.com/HankGreelyLSJU - and wanted to contact you about a realistic virtual earth for everything which MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School is developing. One goal of World University and School is to create online law schools eg https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/China_Law_School_at_WUaS and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Law_School in each of ~200 countries' official languages to teach (and contribute to writing) law with regards to this single developing realistic virtual earth (think Google Street View with TIME SLIDER / Maps / Earth / TensorFlow / Translate at the cellular and atomic levels, and with avatar bots of individuals and species as in group-buildable Second LIfe, but realistic, and planning, for example, for tele-robotic surgery in WUaS's online Medical Schools). All of this would inform developing legal questions with regards to health data such as that which Google just acquired in 21 states, and which your Tweet points to as well.

For further information about a realistic virtual earth, and CC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch, see, for example, the Law Schools' blog label in my blog here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/Law%20Schools.

How best to communicate further about this?

I hope to blog about some of this today as well. Thank you.

Sincerely, Scott

(Could Google be helping Harbin with this? ) And what kind of signals and communication with visitors could Harbin create with this potentially? ... if they could do what I think Google Starbucks did with me yesterday?

And what role could a realistic virtual Harbin play in this (am thinking Google Street View / Maps / Earth with people's smart phones and GPS information)?

Dear Madeline,

Greetings from the SF Bay Area. I just noticed your Tweet on Rebecca Robbins' on her feed, and wanted to contact you in Chicago as well. (See my email to her below, from earlier today, re Tweets). Do you know Lillian Thomas from the City Desk of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - https://www.post-gazette.com/contact/editors - from 2014? She's a friend from my high school years, and I also know her family (and knew her father Clarke Thomas, who also was an editor at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette).

I'm writing to let you know about the Journalism wiki school at MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School (of which I'm the founder) - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Journalism and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Journalism_School - since you mentioned online an interest in data journalism. WUaS seeks to create wiki subject pages, see - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects - in all ~200 countries' official / main languages, for open teaching and learning (a bit like Wikipedia, which is in ~300 languages, - and WUaS donated ourselves to Wikidata in 2015 and received WUaS Miraheze MiediaWiki in 2017, but they're not yet interoperable; together these offer remarkable opportunity for data journalism, in brand new ways).

Since there isn't much MIT OpenCourseWare in Journalism that I can see e.g. - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/comparative-media-studies-writing/ - WUaS seeks to create course ware for this, and for credit eventually relating to WUaS's planned Bachelor, Ph.D. Law, and M.D. as well as I.B. degrees, - again in ~200 countries' main languages. (Harvard might have more to build upon in these regards).

I also want to mention planning for ...
The "Universitian" Newspaper at WUaS -
https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/The_%22Universitian%22_Newspaper_at_WUaS
- also in these ~300 Wikidata languages, and potetially in all 7,111 known living languages with machine translation. Since you were a managing editor at The Harvard Crimson, I wonder too whether you might be interested in exploring brainstorming-wise developing this further even?

How might we communicate further about all of this? Thank you.

Sincerely, Scott

To the Dance or the Pools ~ Virtually?: How Different it is to Soak at Harbin, than to Realize it in Virtual Reality

Drive them back to the wine-dark taste of home,
The smell of damsons simmering in a pot,
Jam ladled thick and steaming down the sunlight.
- Seamus Heaney

To the dance, then the pools,
First at actual Harbin, over years,
Dancing free, dancing be,
Dancing bee, buzzing, its own honey ~
This movement-freedom grows
With warmth and energy
In concert with the music.

Connecting with dancing begins,
Connecting with dancing beings,
Singing inside with freedom in rhythm,
I delight in this liberation, ~
but depends on the music too ~
Blues, Grateful Dead, jamming, Rock & Roll,
Make it happen for me, actually.

Heat comes, the music closes at evening's end,
and people head to the pools,
To cool down,
to complement the body-movement jam,
With serene soaking under starlight
- and the warm waters - ease.
These Harbin warm pool waters,
This elixir of encompassing body suits ~
One's whole being received by
This geo-thermally warmed liquid, ~
We like.

Virtually?

Dancing at home - wearing the Glasses -
I'm there, and so are you,
in the Harbin Conference Center,
And people be jamming,
this be music is hop-happening,
Virtually.

I start to move here at home,
Glasses revealing new openings
through which to glide,
And around my body goes,
Dancing at home, dancing my home.

How Different it is to dance at home in virtual Harbin, ~
and cool - a realization.

... "Question:
whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them?"

Or, to head to Harbin actually or virtually,
different it is,
To seek and find freedom,
By traveling from the SF bay,
The way, the Napa Valley
Wine way to Harbin,
Or to find one's way
There, Virtually there,
'as if' and by multimedia,
With gorgeous visuals
On a screen, currently
What a scream!

Yet beyond this traveling difference -
A big difference - this venturing out
In bodymind, locomotively, to move through,
To see, to interact with, the world,

The Soaking in warm pool
Actually, in waters there,
While being in Harbin all around,
Communicating silently, communing that is,
with fellow soakers, is wondrous.

The Soaking in one's bathtub,
Virtually, from home, Glasses on,
digital screens behind the glass,
newfangled things,
While surround-seeing in Harbin ~
Brainwave headset too to come
For communication,
Tan Le's* or Brainfingers* or EEG*
(only functional when able to relax) ~
Still wondrous
Yet you don't hang out actually ~
By mingling silently in warm pool ~
Or visiting quietly naked

Sunning on the Sun Deck.
Immersive both, in different ways,
The warm waters help
meditation deepen ~
Release inwardly deeply ~
a relaxation response in both,
And all is one in the now,
Consciousness changes.
Yet there's more space too
in the actual Harbin's warm pool
than in this bathtub.

How best to understand consciousness,
and this consciousness?
Subjective-Objective accounts,
1st person-3rd person scientific narratives ~
In the warm waters, with the Glasses,
Re visually observing,
And beginning to examine neural processing ~
as sentience,
awareness,
perception and
feeling
In the brain the mind, the BodyMind?
These neurophysiological e-states
Are consciousness.

(And how far does sentience extend
down the phylogenetic tree?
Won't study this here now at Harbin,
Yet Tononi's integrated information theory - IIT - holds promise
- 'that consciousness is identical to a certain kind of information' -
and measurable as Phi, the symbol for integrated information.
How could brainwave headset devices best turn their
information gathering inwardly
in these regards - and from the Harbin warm pool?)

Qualia, infinite qualities,
('the internal and subjective component of sense perceptions,
arising from stimulation of the senses by phenomena' too),
Perceived by many,
in myriad ways, in many bodyminds?
At actual Harbin in the warm pool,
with brain wave headsets monitoring the brain,
might one be able to study these anew?

At home with Glasses,
and brainwave headsets,
people could talk more readily
adding a language element
to the 'subjective,'
their 1st person accounts, - and
in studying the brain technologically,
actually-virtually & physically-digitally,
where the 'as-if' virtual experience
created by multimedia and
perceived in the brain could be
digitally developed
in virtual brains
in a realistic virtual earth for STEM
and brain science,
And of species and individuals,
like you and me,
soaking, soaking, soaking
in the warm pool at Harbin,
in the bath tub at home
in real virtual Harbin,
... and yet Virtually:
How Different it is to Soak at Harbin,
than to Realize it in Virtual Reality

And loving bliss neurophysiology,
Uniquely Harbin warm pool generated
As it bubbles up, While soaking?

How to measure this with headsets,
Distinguishing even between,
Objectively,
The relaxation response,
The relaxation response
in the Harbin warm pool,
And brain chemistry
of neural cascades of pleasure,

And also then, Subjectively, I say,
In words?

And with machine learning, further,
On the objective, 3rd person
Scientific accounts' side,
Could we add cameras to cells,
cameras, or wee antennae, to atoms,
(have George Church,* Ed Bowden* and Karl Deisseroth* done something like this?)
As well as send ontogenetic signals
In from the headsets
While
In the warm pool,
In the bath tub,
at Harbin soaking?

And subjectively, when we're blissing,
After releasing into meditation,
After eliciting the relaxation response ~
Self reported, ~
use language to talk about this?
I know it consciously when I'm blissing
in the Harbin warm pool,
when bliss is simply bubbling up.
So can we measure such,
And bring this together with what we say about this ~
With our awareness, consciousness that is,
in an account of infinite qualities?

Long way to go to measure
integrated information Phi in the brain,
To hypothesize this further,
And then objectively and 3rd person-wise
Observe this scientifically (& consciously)
In the brain,
But maybe nakedness,
Actually, and
Virtually,
And examining desire,
Further, too, will open ways ...

So first the dance, then the pools
This time, and
How Different it is to Soak at Harbin, than to Realize it in Virtual Reality.

Understanding consciousness
And realizing bliss further
in complement with scientific sentience,
Thanks to Harbin.

to mathieuaguesse, jc, Larry, me

Bonjour Jean-Claude, Mathieu, and Brittany (whose email I don't have),

Thank you for the invitation to the get together this Friday at SF Schoolab International. Does Schoolab engage CC-4 MIT OCW's Sloan School of Management / Business - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/sloan-school-of-management/ - in any way, en Anglais? FYI World Univ & Sch, of which I'm the founder, seeks to offer free-to-students' online Bachelor degrees FIRST IN ENGLISH as WUaS accredits with the state of California (BPPE), then MIT OCW-centric business degrees in French.

One 'value proposition' I could see in communicating further incubator-wise is Schoolab's Founders' and Management's connections (https://theschoolab.com/en/about/team/) with your universities in France and their relationship to the French government. Since World Univ & Sch seeks to build from the 'gold mine' or 'mother lode' of Creative Commons' 4 licensed MIT OpenCourseWare (in its 5 languages), where CC-4 licensing says users can, with MIT OCW, A) share it, B) adapt it, C) but non-commercially, WUaS cannot ask for tuition from students - so online WUaS will be free-to-students - but WUaS will seek reimbursement from governments (eg federal, state, local, etc) per student per year; this could extend to all 29 French speaking countries (planned in French - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/French_language).

So, for example, since you -

Jean-Claude Charlet
SCHOOLAB CEO and co-founder

went to ...

- Stanford University Graduate School of Business - Business Administration

- Université Paris La Sorbonne

- ESSEC Business School - Business Administration

... WUaS would like to explore developing networks with these great universities and related governments (eg state of CA in Sacramento, Federal Government in Washington DC, the French government in Paris, etc), and all via the internet.

Similarly, Matthieu, Audiencia's Business School (your alma mater - https://www.linkedin.com/in/mathieuaguesse/detail/contact-info/) could benefit from Wolrd Univ & Sch's MIT OCW arrangements. If WUaS could get, over time, French students interested in MIT OCW-centric management degrees, in English and French, and if then WUaS could get reimbursement from the French government due to the CC-4 licensing, and Schoolab's ESSEC, Sorbonne and Audencia's connections, I suspect that people affiliated with French World University and School would do very well for themselves, for example, too.

This would extend to Colombia, (and Uruguay, too, and with regards to Brittany's recent trip there), and with respect to

Ana Maria Zuluaga
Co-founder at Schoolab San Francisco
EHESS - Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales

And WUaS seeks to create online Colombia and Uruguay World University and School - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States - in official / major languages there. Here's the Spanish Language with subject at WUaS - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Spanish_language - planned in Spanish, and informing major online MIT OCW-centric WUaS Universities in all Spanish speaking countries (21?).

World Univ & Sch seeks to offer online Bachelor, Ph.D., Law and Medicine (M.D.) degrees as well as I.B. high school degrees, all online and accrediting, and in ~200 countries' official / main languages.

And while WUaS seeks to offer online Business Degrees at the Bachelor and Ph.D. levels, based on MIT OCW Sloan courses - see WUaS'a 6 present undergraduate majors in the course catalog here ... http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - WUaS hasn't matriculated any undergraduate students for this yet. World Univ & Sch is seeking an online undergraduate class of 500-2000 English speaking students from all 200 countries in the autumn of 2000. WUaS website development in multiple languages will be a major part of this.

I see another 'value proposition' with regard to translating of MIT OCW into French, for example, and job creation as well as knowledge generation for France, and in French-speaking countries. For example, these French universities above, and faculty translators too (learning new courses to teach in French), could benefit from the knowledge in MIT OCW for their own universities. (Againn, this could extend to all countries with French as their official languages too, so in Africa, for example, and for reimbursement too - as well as for knowledge generation).

WUaS is very digitally focused, so not seeking office space, yet I'd like to invite you to Monday Morning 10 am WUaS talk sessions if you might be interested -

World Univ & Sch Monday TALK Q & A News 10am PT > https://youtu.be/vZcp2zqkI9w>NEWLY in LightStream > https://youtube.com/WorldUnivandSch> #WorldUnivAndSchNewsQandA info @ http://worlduniversityandschool.org Seeking 2nd online class for free-to-students' best STEM CC-4 OCW Bachelor's degrees

https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1188152443386777601. Could WUaS explore interviewing you here, Jean-Claude, for example?

And for your information too, WUaS is 2 legal entities: A) World University and School, a non-profit 501 c 3 tax exempt charity, and B) the WUaS Corporation / Press a for-profit general stock company. Both are planned in each of all ~200 countries, and in 7111 known living languages, and both are not yet financially operational to speak of. Here are the most recent Minutes to give you more information about WUaS:

(and Larry Viehland, above, is chair of the Board, as well as CFO, acting, on both wings).

Looking forward to meeting you tomorrow evening Matthieu - and Jean-Claude if you happen to make a cameo appearance via Skype in the middle of the night :)

Agenda

0
World Univ & Sch is seeking an online undergraduate class of 500-2000 English speaking students from all 200 countries in the autumn of 2000. WUaS website development in multiple languages will be a major part of this - worlduniversityandschool.org

1
Finances - WUaS calendar year is January-December, so the annual financial report will come out in January 2020

i) need to set a budget for 2020

ii) WUaS will send out the WUaS financial report for October 2019 with the Minutes in a few days; it's the same as last months

2
Information Technology -
WUaS is glad to be in Wikidata (and in WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki - but they aren't yet interoperable), and newly communicating in Wikidata Office Hours in the Telegram App,(which first Wikidata office hour meeting there WUaS just attended on 5 Nov 2019); see transcript at bottom here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/11/hop-bush-dodonaea-viscosa-all-75.html - and in WUaS planning for:

All 7.5 billion people, each a Wikidata Q-item number for

1) wiki Universitians in 7,111 known living languages, and matriculated students in all ~200 countries,

2) Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records, with genetic therapies, and for molecular tele robotic surgery,

3) Universal Basic Income EXPERIMENTS (and to alleviate poverty), and to distribute a single cryptocurrency backed by some number of ~200 countries' central banks

4) a single family tree for genealogy research as in WikiTree, and for aggregating DNA samples too

3
Organizational structure for WUaS developments -

i) Building on the WUaS Monthly Business Meeting organizational structure (see links to 2019 WUaS Minutes below)

ii) Seeking to move from writing as management style to Chief Operating Officer approach

iii) Seeking to code the WUaS web site ... (on Google platform, with best STEM CC-4 OpenCourseWare and in Wikidata's 300 languages, - and with licensing and accreditation)

iii) seeking to develop financial processes in these regards

With respect to this, how best to structure WUaS

A) As a unicorn company, to become a billion dollar company  - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicorn_(finance) ?

B) For growth, and brainstorming-wise, potentially with a French entrepreneurial incubator called Schoolab (which meeting WUaS will attend this Friday evening, 15 Nov 2019, in SF - see below) ...

C) And how can WUaS become financially operational, and begin to hire? (ie how can we develop the organizational culture to support this growth, and then develop organizational structures beyond Friendly open Monthly Business Meeting ... ?

WUaS seeks to develop monies-wise, and re broadest organizational and IT structures, for this by exploring reaching out further to the Washington DC / Boston / Pittsburgh areas, as well as in the SF Bay Area ... and potentially in Europe now too.

to Janie, Ed, Larry, David, Andrew, Mary, Sandy, Jerry, Dean

Dear Ma (Janie), Ed, Larry and All,

Working here on getting the Agenda and News out for MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School's Annual Meeting at WUaS Monthly Business Meeting on Saturday.

Here are the most recent Minutes in these regards:

Minutes:

Another reason to explore a faculty position at Harvard Anthropology is to facilitate the research for and writing of a next book I'm planning, namely a MIT-Stanford STEM innovation ethnography, since the 1960s. See, for example: http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/07/carrot-compare-stem-cultures-of-mit.html. Being a Harvard Professor, in Cambridge, would allow me to do ethnographic field work at MIT, talking to people who were MIT students, faculty, staff et al. at the time, about STEM innovation at MIT, for example, as well as access technologies and archives. With this faculty position, I would then be able to also carry out comparative ethnographic research in California, both at Stanford, as well as at Harbin Hot Springs, as I develop a realistic virtual Harbin for actual-virtual, physical-digital ethnographic comparison and field work, and via ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy. I know a number of the Harvard Anthropology faculty, having met them at Stanford, and have cited a few of them in my academic publications / blog.

Sincerely, Scott

Hi Ma (Janie), and All,

Per my email the other day to  you about not getting the MIT Media Lab faculty position last year, and ongoing lack of monies' issues re World Univ & Sch and personally, I wonder these days about getting a Harvard Anthropology faculty position and re my actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic project, as well as the creation of a realistic virtual earth for anthropology - http://www.scottmacleod.com/research-group.html - and also re this new social science / ethnography / STEM method and theory I'm calling ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy?m=0. I'm also curious if Stanford Anthropology and other faculty and possibly John Hennessy too could help with this, and potentially Berkeley Anthropology faculty too. Would be interesting to explore moving back to the Boston area in the autumn of 2020, for example, in these regards.

Thoughts about whom I might contact in these regards?  Joi Ito was a main contact at MIT until he stepped down because of the craziness of big money and children sexual victims I'll call this. And it's possible I may have saved a lot of kids even by my whistle-blowing at the San Francisco Quaker Meeting in these regards too. And I'd be much closer proximity-wise to MIT re developing CC-4 MIT OCW-centric World University and School in MIT OCW's 5 languages for example, and hopefully with MIT graduate students teaching sections to some of the courses and their faculty ... and in their planning to become faculty themselves. What do you think?

You might enjoy again re-visiting some of the writing in this recent blog entry - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/11/northern-gannett-virtual-college-stem.html - which is quite long now, but kinda interesting as well ... and full of good ideas too - especially about ethics, with a new related blog label for this - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethics?m=0.

Love, Scott

Good afternoon, Ma,

House concert was enjoyable, in a beautiful "Berkeley craftsman style house" and good to hear Dick Hensold play well the Northumbrian small pipes (will blog a bit about this today - and re creativity and upcoming SSP album). Didn't meet anyone who might come to Open Band that I know of, and most of the folks there were in possibly their 60s. The owner of the house, Cathy, was a great kind of 'old hippy' I'd say ... Being among the audience leads me to think through exploring how I might want to seek a Harvard Anthropology Professor's position next year ... re my research, but also with regard to MIT OCW-centric World Univ & Sch. I imagine most people in the room would bear some resemblance to the social circles I might be finding my way into in Cambridge, and Boston, and re music too ... and especially re my various research and book projects  ... back and forth, both in Cambridge, as well as in northern California ...

Good to get a nice note from Karen Leighty yesterday after sending out the WUaS Agenda and News ... and looking forward to seeing them in December in DC. Time to go through past emails and add some more people to the WUaS email lists, and send out one more Agenda announcement.

Heading to "Schoolab SF's International Night: Happy Hour Rendezvous with global entrepreneurs and startups" - https://www.eventbrite.com/e/schoolab-sfs-international-night-tickets-78662013199 - and am thinking Brittany would be a good startup Chief Operating Officer of WUaS, if she could be assigned to this - or similar (French is an official language in about 29 of ~200 countries, re online course ware in these regards for degrees, and although a Californian, she seems fluent in French). It could be interesting with time to meet a 28 year old MD who communicated a bit like she does and is personality-wise somewhat similar - and looking to begin a family as well.

Humorously and having heard back from Deirdre, a 'MD' - so-called 'managing director' - at Harbin about 3 weeks ago, I'm curious how Harbin will do 'security' from the 'inside.' (Deirdre's an insider' in a way ... while I am only in the participant side of Anthropological participant-observation methods' wise). Harbin's 'security' in the past has been about as funky as Harbin itself (a joke? ... or Harbin's own creation, with Harbin's own sanctions - including probably / possibly use of force????) ... Is Neil, Deirdre's partner (and long time Harbin person too), now head of security ... I ask in a kind of joking way?  And if somehow Harbin and Harbin security collaborated with both the database people re visitors (would this be Google? ... as well as even, say, the US army, for example in one way or another, and not the CA police or other outsider groups/identities ... which could be a funky conversation unfolding now as Harbin re-builds after opening in January 2019 and after the fire of September 2015), how will the cultural aspects of security (not motivated by money or capitalism aspects ... since they're rebuilding so very slowly) at Harbin and re California law especially work out? And what might get institutionalized in these regards, as they as work through and develop a discourse / culture in 'thinking' through these 'security' questions, since it was probably a kind of 'hippy' unthought through 'security' from a beyond-Harbin perspective for decades. :) (How might I be protected if I were to head up their again for example in 2020 ... and how to weed out the bad apples, and even identify them, for example, in the post-hippy 'morass' or cultural chaos of Harbin after the fire?) And how would possible victims be protected, for example, and criminals prosecuted - a language that isn't as evolved as in Pennsylvania in the same ways? Just some Harbin musings ... and also re this blog post ...

Know Harbin's "40 Years of Living the Future" text ... http://harbin.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Harbin_40th_anniversary.pdf  ... @HarbinBook? & also re a #RealisticVirtualHarbin for #ActualVirtual #PhysicalDigital Ethnography: Have often thought Drax is living the future: Hop in NOW https://twitter.com/draxtor/status/119500923450246758 ~ #RealisticVirtualEarth ~
https://twitter.com/scottmacleod/status/1195085480250920960
(Have a glance at the pamphlet above which I've found inspiring, and representative of Harbin's vision for itself ... :)

What are you up to this weekend, and how was your week?

L, Scott

Thanks, Dick,

I enjoyed your concert and meeting you, too. A friend, Barbara Salisbury (with whom I play in Open Band for Scottish Country Dancers on Mondays - https://twitter.com/TheOpenBand/status/1171460986571644929 - and with Patti above too), let me know about your house concert in that beautiful 'Berkeley craftsman style house' and re your Northumbrian piping (and I play the Scottish small pipes, as we talked about). I noticed you play many different instruments - http://www.dickhensold.com/instruments.htm - and wanted to bring, further, to your attention the Music School at World University and School - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Music_School (planning each of all instruments in each of all 7,111 known living languages - with machine translation - each a wiki subject page for open teaching and learning, to begin, and with further wiki page creation possible) - especially since you have a music degree from Oberlin. See the Bagpipe Tutorials' wiki page - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Bagpipe_Tutorials - as an example of a wiki subject page that is furthest along, but since MIT OpenCourseWare doesn't have any bagpipe related courses, there are no MIT OCW courses here (to give you an idea of how WUaS will work for credit, too) ... but there are College of Piping Tutor resources, for example. (I just searched on and found interestingly this MIT resource - https://lit.mit.edu/people/wdonaldson/ - re his two bagpipe books, with a third on the way:).
Eventually the Music School will move into real real time music making over the internet and in a realistic virtual earth (perhaps on Google's Stacks and re their recent claims of Quantum supremacy ... re lack of lag).

(Ongoing envisioning of my Scottish small pipes'"Honey in the Bag" album in 2020 here in the bagpiping label in my daily blog - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/bagpiping - and see creative exploration newly of putting my beginning "Boston Tea Party Song"'verse' to SSP music and singing this with SSP - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/10/tea-camellia-sinensis-bring-eric.html - as well as - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/02/gobies-scott-macleods-honey-in-bag-cd.html and re the Music School at WUaS for SSP Tutorials - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/07/cape-cod-national-seashore-video-tune.html).

Am seeking too for the Press at World University and School to make possible musicians creating their own albums - a compilation of MP3s? - and also printing to CDs and distributing via the WUaS bookstore, as easy as pie. ... http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html ...
Thanks again for your good piping and music-making, and an enjoyable Berkeley house concert.

Sincerely, Scott

Here some related free open bagpiping wiki subjects at MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School
... and there are a few more piping wiki subject pages at WUaS - check in the "Links" sections ...

Cheers, Scott

Barbara,

Somewhere across the English channel in a distant time and place ... I re-added this but as a shorter excerpt from Lacan with the young French hippy
public demonstration -
excerpt from lacan parle (1972).mp4

 https://youtu.be/6aqGYYBwKbQ

to
https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/04/flax-nectar-jacques-lacan-parle-what.html
- and updated 2015 post ... and to other recent blog posts as well.

What do you think of this?

(I find the translation subtitles particularly good, multi-meaning, and interesting re the dialogue, and shared language ... ah parole ... très Belge? :).

à bientôt, Scott

to Byron, JoAnne, Scott, Jane, Bruce, Patti, Barbara, Peter, Janie, me, Alden, Gantt, Ed, Bruce, David, Heather, Ann, Alex, Jonathan, Linda, lovell

Hi Patti, Barbara, Heather, David and All,

Nice to see some of you last night at Scottish Country Dancing. And nice to play piano beside you, Patti ... a potentially good way to grow my piano playing. (Thanks too for putting the Beethoven book in my hand 2 weeks ago, Heather, and which I didn't see again last night).

Looks like power may be out again in Canyon 94516 tomorrow once again ... Received an email recently on the Canyon email list:

"Canyon will likely be included in the Public Safety Power Shutoff that is
scheduled to begin at
9am on Wednesday morning (11/20).

The National Weather Service has also issued a Red Flag Warning for the
East Bay from 4am Weds to 7pm Thursday."

Not clear how to interpret this, but there seem to be a lot of utilities' outages in Canyon, in general.

Glad too to talk with Scottish Country Dancer Dave Deacon and Chief Operating Officer of Ria Health in SF (with BSc physics and EE degrees from MIT, and a physics' Ph.D. from Stanford) and potentially about World University and School's online Medical Schools and online teaching hospitals, after SCD yesterday evening. Am posting my email I sent today, and two weeks ago below in these regards.

Power is still out for MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School ... and perhaps conversations with Dave will eventually help turn this on for WUaS.

I would welcome all of your thoughts too about growing World Univ & Sch, and with regards too to the Agenda and News from WUaS's Annual Meeting on Saturday (with Minutes to come):

Keeping in touch too re the 8.0 Earthquake potential + ...

Sincerely, and SCD cheers, Scott

Hi Dave,
(COO at Ria Health - https://riahealth.com/team/)

Nice to talk last night after Scottish Country Dancing with you again.

Per your questions about 501 c 3's World Univ & Sch's revenue and business plan, I looked up

tuition at Stanford
47,940 USD
2016–17

tuition at UC Berkeley
In-state 13,509 USD, Out-of-state 40,191 USD
2016–17

tuition at MIT
48,452 USD
2016–17

And CC-4 MIT OCW-centric World Univ & Sch seeks to offer an online education comparable to Stanford's and MIT's as WUaS accredits with the state of California's BPPE (Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education) - so as a private university, in the context of the US. For this WUaS is seeking the $5000 fee potentially in January.

And WUaS can use the MIT OCW name if we add these clarifications - see: worlduniversityandschool.org

MIT OCW Creative Commons' licensing and endorsement clarifications:

a) MIT is not affiliated with, and does not endorse, World University and School b) MIT does not offer credit to WUaS students, and c) All MIT OpenCourseWare materials are available for free through http://ocw.mit.edu

- so WUaS isn't entirely a 'no-name' startup university, and there's also a gold mine or motherlode of courses to grow from here in 5 languages as WUaS seeks highest achieving students online in all ~200 countries' main languages.

And here are WUaS's 14 planned revenue streams (2016) - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html - and you'll see on the for-profit general stock company wing, the WUaS Corporation, a separate parallel legal entity - with both wings planned in ~200 countries' languages, and in all 7111 known living languages with machine translation - and much that investors would be interested in.

So how best to offer the quality of an online MIT or Stanford education to be able to seek reimbursement from departments of Education in all ~200 countries' official / main languages, and beginning with a Bachelor's degree in English, but potentially soon thereafter for Medical Doctor degrees in same - in order to offer free-to-students' degrees (thus making WUaS very competitive in many ways)? WUaS would thus be able to begin to be able to seek the additional $8,000 dollars that MIT and Stanford ask from students compared with out-of-state Cal students (and the ~$23,000 more per student per year compared with the in-state Cal tuition) provided we can offer highest-quality education newly online.

And could Ria Health's approach to telemedicine for alcoholism help further inform WUaS online medical schools/teaching hospitals in each of ~200 countries' main languages (Scotland as out-of-country test case?) ... in terms of quality (and re Stanford / Duke / Google's Project Baseline, and Project ECHO too)?

Looked up Project ECHO re alcoholism, and found:

https://dellmed.utexas.edu/blog/project-echo-seeks-to-improve-access-to-mental-health-care-for-everyone-everywhere

https://www.c4tbh.org/project-echo-extension-community-healthcare-outcomes-new-model-educating-primary-care-providers-treatment-substance-use-disorders/

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4873719/

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26848803

And, for my own information, here's Dr. Andy Weil's approach of many to alcoholism, aimed at readers (and not health care providers):
https://www.drweil.com/health-wellness/body-mind-spirit/addiction/alcoholism/

On the for-profit side, I suspect that your knowledge with regards to Ria Health could inform many hospital technologies in WUaS's planned Online<>On-the-ground robotics' / hospital technologies' stores, with partly a 'big box' model in all ~200 countries' too.

Here's the Agenda and News from WUaS's Annual Meeting on Saturday (with Minutes to come), with MUCH more in the above regards:

... with potentially enormous numbers of potential alcoholic patients re Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records planned brainstorming-wise at WUaS for all 7.5 billion people on the planet.

(Am in communication with both Stanford Law Prof Roland Vogl, and Stanford Medicine Chair Bob Harrington MD with regard to WUaS Medical Schools, and WUaS Law Schools, as well).

Looking forward to talking further potentially next week after SCD.

Sincerely, Scott

This might give you another idea of how WUaS is thinking in terms of MIT OCW and in other languages with regards to the IB degree:

Hi Dave,

Since it looks like there's no SCD or Open Band music-making at St. Clement's due to Veteran's Day - and so we won't be able to talk then as you had suggested - I thought I'd email you now. I know your CMO, Jon, a little from some years ago. ...

From LinkedIn:
"Hi Dave, Nice to talk after SCD yesterday. FYI: beginning WUaS Med Schs & /Hospital https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Medical_School & some thoughts about Projects Baseline & ECHO -https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/12/chiricahua-national-monument-projects.html -S"

Some thoughts came to mind with regards to what you told me about yesterday evening:

Brainstorming-wise, and with regards to successful interventions for your addiction and alcoholism patients, I wonder if you/RIA might be able to network with Project Baseline, and use getting your patients into a Project Baseline clinic IDEA, or similar, (your own clinics? ) to give their physical samples of blood, sweat, tears, saliva, stool, etc., and do a cardio exam in a clinic (or eventually even from home), where Project Baseline would then turn these physical samples into data ... to chart a path way to health for them. This is the idea behind Project Baseline as I understand it but best to 'brush up' on your Project Baseline knowledge for yourself, from Youtubes or similar) ...

So if your patients could be 'incentivized' to change their drinking habits and by getting on a cardio machine (and to exercise) initially, in the name of contributing to science and a study, and get into the clinic too, they might be incentivized to change their alcoholic behavior - a kind of educational approach too - and then you might be able to show further results, and thereby help you get RIA into the value chain (ie financial reimbursement loops). Your Stanford and MIT links might help you find your way into openings in Project Baseline study, created by Alphabet / Google / Verily / Stanford / Duke University 10,000 person project / study (and Project Baseline may already be showing results among alcoholics - re data to show Anthem etc.).

More about Project Baseline and Project ECHO here from 2017 -
https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/12/chiricahua-national-monument-projects.html (and sprinkled throughout my active blog as well).

World University and School is envisioning our first online Medical School in English beginning about 4 years from now (after a CC-4 MIT OCW-centric Bachelor's degree class beginning in 2020, a first Ph.D. class beginning in 2021, a first law class beginning in 2022, and potentially a Med Sch class in 2023 - as WUAS licenses with the state of CA's BPPE.

Project Baseline in this WUaS actual-virtual physical-digital envisioning would become the online hospital (re its virtual or digital focus)- https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Hospital - brainstorming-wise, and even for genetic engineering therapies on corresponding-to-humans' avatar bots via avatar bot electronic medical records,

And since MIT itself doesn't have a Med School or a Law School, WUaS seeks to emerge out of Stanford Medicine and Law for OpenCourseWare for these schools in ~200 countries' official / main languages.

WUaS sees Project ECHO - think MD specialists to rural populations in group video with a mentoring aspect (like a GI doctor, a pharmacologist and a psychiatrist for Hepatitis C) - with a mentoring aspect in group video, as budding Medical Schools in group video - https://twitter.com/ProjectECHO - and I heard and met its founder, Sanjiv Arora MD (whose daughter went to Stanford) at a Stanford Medicine Grand Rounds' talk.

Here's an example of an early experimental genetic therapy for longevity ...

Harvard Medical School @harvardmed 4h
Scientists used a combination of 3 longevity-associated genes, delivered through a one-time injection, to dramatically improve or reverse multiple age-related diseases in mice (via @BostonGlobe)

https://twitter.com/harvardmed/status/1191802354271686657

... which could be seen as a surgical procedure even with regard to the needle insertion, and which could conceivably be done in such an online WUaS hospital by a tele-robotic surgeon, and even with regards to an actual-virtual, physical-digital realistic virtual earth at the cellular and atomic levels too for STEM and for tele-robotic surgery (something I'm heralding) ... and think Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth / TensorFlow and with group build-able Second Life with avatar bots, but realistic ones.

So with tele-medicine alcoholism approaches, and your company with its MD, entrepreneurial focus, and its legal relationship with the state of California, it would be interesting to explore further talking about how this could emerge as a part of the online hospital at WUaS, and also even as part of a medical course at World Univ & Sch in Med Schs in all 200 countries' official / main languages. What do you think about getting RIA into the value chain further by RIA networking with Project Baseline, brainstorming-wise?

Just some thoughts, and hope to talk further with you about this, perhaps at SCD in two Mondays.

Best, Scott

PS
re a realistic virtual earth, I'm thinking in terms of a realistic virtual Harbin Hot Springs, which is my actual-virtual ethnographic field site:

Wikidata Q-item # for 7.5 billion people?

Wednesday, November 20, 2019

Thanks, Aleš, and Magnus, and All,

I'm curious if WikiTree might be interested in exploring developing a single family tree, and planning, brainstorming-wise, for all 7.5 billion people. Conceptually, let's go further back to begin, but GDPR-wise, World Univ & Sch seeks to develop online Law Schools - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Law_School - in each of all ~200 countries in which these 7.5 billion people live, so may be able to teach about and code for unfolding legal developments. WikiTree has impressive data already  with regards to "20 million of public profiles connected to a single tree and over 6 million people have some DNA info."

Aleš: MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School (like Wikipedia in 300 languages with MIT OCW in 5 languages), in donating itself to Wikidata for co-development and having received WUaS Miraheze MedIaWiki as a consequence, is seeking to make them interoperable for online matriculating WUaS students, in 200 countries, and for volunteer editors, open wiki teachers and learners (or 'Universitians' at WUaS), so for speakers in each of all 7,111 known living languages ... and then potentially a Person item # or Qitem# for 7.5 billion people, conceptually.

Additionally, WUaS is seeking to plan for, brainstorming-wise, all 7.5 billion people for the following reasons:

All 7.5 billion people, each a Wikidata Q-item number for

1) wiki Universitians in 7,111 known living languages, and matriculated students in all ~200 countries,
2) Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records, with genetic therapies, and for molecular tele robotic surgery, for ex.,

3) Universal Basic Income (UBI) experiments (and to alleviate poverty), and to DISTRIBUTE a single cryptocurrency backed by some number of ~200 countries' central banks (where the Euro is in 19 out of 28 EU countries, and backed by their central banks in one way or another)

4) a single family tree for genealogy research as in WikiTree, and for aggregating DNA samples too (see item 2 again).

In what ways could Wikdiata plan for all 7.5 billion people each a Wikidata Q-item # and for the above reasons and many more (and keeping in sync with Wikipeidia's mission of "the sum of all human knowledge" where all 7.5 billion people generate this with their language, for example).

Lydia, shall we explore bringing Denny into this conversation and with regards to a possible remarkable growth story for Wikidata potentially (since wiki World Univ & Sch in Wikidata seeks to create potentially 2.2 million jobs on both of our wings)?

Thanks, Aleš, Lydia, Chris, Magnus (Peter and Mark)!

Cheers, Scott

IF NOT Wikidata Q-item # for 7.5 billion, then WUaS P-item # for all 7.5 billion people?

to PeterLydiasalgo60aleschrisMacLeodScott
Greetings, Aleš Trtnik, Magnus Sälgö, Chris Whitten, Lydia Pintscher, and All,

Aleš and Chris, Magnus in Sweden just shared your emails with me, and we've been talking about planning presumably for all 7.5 billion people per WikiTree planning for 'growing an accurate single family tree' (see, too - https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/user/Trtnik-2 ) and MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School planning for all 7.5 billion people, each a Wikidata Q-item or similar:

From Wikidata conversation in the new Telegram App today:
Hi Magnus, thanks, I looked at the video with Lydia, and found it a helpful overview ... perhaps with World Univ & Sch's donation to Wikidata for co-development in 2015 and receiving WUaS Miraheze Mediawiki in 2017, something like Person-item-#s will emerge re QIDs, - so PIDs, or similar (and on the WUaS side, but collaborating with Wikidata). WUaS is seeking to begin coding for matriculating students in all ~200 countries, and Universitians in all 7,111 known living languages - and per this same blog entry for 3 other reasons to begin ... https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/11/hop-bush-dodonaea-viscosa-all-75.html ... Thanks.

WUaS is seeking to plan, brainstorming-wise, for all 7.5 billion people for these reasons, to begin:

All 7.5 billion people, each a Wikidata Q-item number for

1) wiki Universitians in 7,111 known living languages, and matriculated students in all ~200 countries,

2) Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records, with genetic therapies, and for molecular tele robotic surgery,

4) a single family tree for genealogy research as in WikiTree, and for aggregating DNA samples too
https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/11/hop-bush-dodonaea-viscosa-all-75.html

Aleš, and Chris, How might we best explore this further and in Wikibase as well potentially?

Thank you! (Am posting some of my and Magnus Telegram chat for further context here).

Sincerely, Scott

Scott GK MacLeod, [07.11.19 08:15]
Magnus I just want to introduce you to @Carl-JohnSveningsson ... do you know each other? You're both active in Wikidata in Sweden ... and potentially re both 7.5 billion people, each a Wikidata Q-item, as well as a realistic virtual earth for everything with Wikidata data, ie with your Swedish churches' project (conceptually like Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth / TensorFlow / Translate with 7.5 billion avatar bots reprsenting all of us, and for medicine, and at the cellular and atomic levels too).

Scott GK MacLeod, [07.11.19 09:18]
Just blogged a bit about this, Magnus - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/11/hop-bush-dodonaea-viscosa-all-75.html ....

Magnus Sälgö, [07.11.19 12:31]
Yes Carl and I have met-....

Magnus Sälgö, [07.11.19 12:34]
Wikidata will noit scale to 7.5 billion people.... we have had discussions for years if
* every research article should be in WIkidata https://tools.wmflabs.org/scholia/
* every book should be there https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_Books

Scott GK MacLeod, [07.11.19 12:35]
Wiki WUaS is also seeking to create all museums in all languages ever (thinking Google Street View with time slider / maps / earth with TensorFlow ... and re your data-work about Swedish churches )

Scott GK MacLeod, [07.11.19 12:36]
Ok ... Wiki WUaS in Wikidata, and re Wikidata's ~300 languages, will explore a variety of approaches brainstorming-wise

Scott GK MacLeod, [07.11.19 12:36]
Glad to learn that you and Carl-Johan have met

Scott GK MacLeod, [07.11.19 12:38]
WUaS is also in Google/Alphabet .. and may head in this direction re 7.5 billion people as well - Can we do this on Google's Stacks and with Quantum computing (in a realistic virtual earth at the atomic level too?:)

Scott GK MacLeod, [07.11.19 12:39]
Cool ...

Scott GK MacLeod, [07.11.19 12:42]
My main focus in these regards is to make interoperable the WUaS "front end" in WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University - with Wikidata as "back end" structured knowledge database ... and potentially by anticipating speakers of all 7,111 known living languages be able to register as 'Universitians' ... it may make sense here for WUaS brainstorming-wise to plan for all 7.5 billion people in whatever multi-lingual database ... This making interoperable has been a long time in the making!😊

Scott GK MacLeod, [07.11.19 12:47]
Thnx!

Scott GK MacLeod, [19.11.19 14:43]
Thanks.

Magnus Sälgö, [19.11.19 14:49]
We have already performance problems today... we could add all political documents produced in all goverments, we are trying to add all research papers.... why all people... seems just dangerous.....

All living languages and lexemes for all words in all languages is the user story they work with,.,,,
https://twitter.com/salgo60/status/1196625780744314880?s=20

Check the chaos Wikidata has .... the problem with a scope like WIkiTree is that not many people check every object —> the quality is very bad,.....

Examople of WIkiTree mess https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/498405/wikitree-statistics-nov-2017?show=498622#a498622

[ Photo ]
14 children in one family in WikiTree was 7......  a wiki with not more peoople checking all items degenerate.... most people spend time on your own family tree and maybe famous people....

Scott GK MacLeod, [19.11.19 14:52]
Interesting ... it comes back in part, in my thinking, to Wikipedia's mission of "sum of all human knowledge" (which people generate) 😁or similar, and Wikidata continues to take on enormous projects ... and WUaS's mission too ... Thanks, @Magnus

Magnus Sälgö, [19.11.19 14:53]
Now part of the project is Wikibase....  then its possible,.... convince Ales to test it

https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/user/Trtnik-2

Scott GK MacLeod, [19.11.19 14:57]
Could be good idea, Magnus, since WikiTree is Wiki and has a stated goal of all 7.5 billion people presumably too in a single family tree (and WUaS similarly is seeking to develop for all 7.5 billion people) ... do you happen to have his email address, or do you know if he is in this Wikidata group, for example? Thanks.

And in the Wikidata channel in the Telegram App ... (today)

Robin van der Vliet, [19.11.19 13:47]
I think it gives errors, because there are too many values in P17 ("country"): https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q49542#P17

Andrew Gray, [19.11.19 13:58]
For most things I would suggest "make the biggest one preferred", which would presumably solve it, but that doesn't quite seem right for fragmented populations.

Scott GK MacLeod, [19.11.19 14:10]
@Robin I counted about 70 countries in https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q49542#P17 out of the ~206 countries in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil and 206 countries anticipated in Tokyo in 2020. Am curious in what ways Wikidata might make this more precise - and possibly by, for example and brainstorming-wise, giving all 7.5 a Wikidata Q-item number, and re whether they 'identify' Russian or not. I'd hypothesize there are Russians in most of all ~206 countries, but Wikidata could proof this. What do you think?

Scott GK MacLeod, [19.11.19 14:11]
Wikidata could *prove this ('7.5' *billion people on planet)

*
IF NOT #WikidataQitem # for 7.5 billion, then WUaS P-item # for all 7.5 billion people? Collaboration with Wikidata re WUaS donation of WUaS to Wikidata in 2015 for co-development, & having received WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki in 2015 https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University but not yet interoperable

Arabian sand gazelle: Minutes for ANNUAL MEETING on Saturday, November 16, 2019 for A) World University & School and B) WUaS Corporation at WUaS Monthly Business Meeting

Previous: Tunicate (sea squirts): Tele-medicine, Chief Operating Officer (COO) brainstorming. Per your Qs about 501c3 World Univ & Sch's biz plan, looked up A) tuition at Stanford $47,940 USD 2016–17 . . . tuition at UC Berkeley In-state $13,509 USD, Out-of-state $40,191 USD 2016–17 . . . tuition at MIT $ 48,452 USD 2016–17 . . . Telemedicine and a specific condition: Alcoholism - Approaches for Scotland too . . . and re all 7.5 billion people as well? * * * Aleš and Chris, Magnus in Sweden just shared your emails with me, and we've been talking about planning presumably for all 7.5 billion people per WikiTree planning for 'growing an accurate single family tree' . . . IF NOT Wikidata Q-item for 7.5 billion, then WUaS P-item for all 7.5 billion people? . . . WUaS is seeking to plan, brainstorming-wise, for all 7.5 billion people for these reasons, to begin: All 7.5 billion people, each a Wikidata Q-item number for 1) wiki Universitians in 7,111 known living languages, and matriculated students in all ~200 countries, 2) Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records, with genetic therapies, and for molecular tele robotic surgery, 3) Universal Basic Income EXPERIMENTS (and to alleviate poverty), and to distribute a single cryptocurrency backed by some number of ~200 countries' central banks 4) a single family tree for genealogy research as in WikiTree, and for aggregating DNA samples too

World University and School

Minutes for Annual Meeting
on Saturday, November 16, 2019
at World University & School
Monthly Business Meeting

Minutes

(Agenda & News ...

Present:
-       Larry Viehland (World Univ and Sch Board Chair, and CFO)
-       Scott MacLeod (President, CEO, Professor, Founder, Presiding Clerk +)

Minutes -

0
To seek and reach out to World University and School's second undergraduate class for the autumn of 2020, at licensing WUaS (with CA's BPPE), WUaS is seeking the initial $5000 in fees, and committed funding annually after this for both licensing and accreditation. WUaS seeks hereby too to become listed in High School Counseling Offices (see, for ex., - https://www.nacacnet.org/globalassets/documents/publications/research/hsls_counseling.pdf).

See the WUaS 6 Bachelor degree majors in the course catalog here - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VRHhXYsk-V9lvSh5onaU2hnEhwoapSN7HyBK1P09LIk/edit?usp=sharing (accessible from - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/) - including especially the 2 undergraduate MIT OCW-centric Engineering degrees, in EECS, and General Engineering, (where WUaS will build upon this Engineering OCW - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/find-by-topic/#cat=engineering), as well as the Business (see: https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/sloan-school-of-management/) degrees.

0.i
In seeking to develop the WUaS high school international baccalaureate (IB) diploma - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/WUaS_International_Baccalaureate_Diploma_and_Programme - in all ~200 countries' official / main languages, WUaS seeks to collaborate with or create inspiring IB course ware online, and emerging both from MIT OCW High School - https://ocw-origin.odl.mit.edu/high-school/ - and which in part is potentially 'makey-makey,' possibly coding and gaming-centric, project based learning oriented, builds on the conference method (Harkness table method - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harkness_table ?) and which cultivates critical thinking, from home. WUaS doesn't want to lose high school students from the beginning of their online studies.

1
Financial reports -

Please find the monthly financial reports attached to the WUaS Annual Meeting Minutes' email.

The annual financial report will be emailed in January, after the close of the WUaS Jan-Dec fiscal year.

1.i
In terms of reimbursement from Departments of Education in all ~200 countries, and 501 c 3's World Univ & Sch's revenue and business plan, WUaS is seeking comparable reimbursement to the following great universities' tuitions . . .

tuition at Stanford
47,940 USD
2016–17

tuition at UC Berkeley
In-state 13,509 USD, Out-of-state 40,191 USD
2016–17

tuition at MIT
48,452 USD
2016–17

And CC-4 MIT OCW-centric World Univ & Sch seeks to offer a world class online education  education comparable to Stanford's and MIT's as WUaS accredits first with the state of California's BPPE (Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education) - so as a private university, in the context of the USA.

And, again, WUaS can use the MIT OCW name if we add the following clarifications - see: worlduniversityandschool.org ...

"MIT OCW Creative Commons' licensing and endorsement clarifications:

a) MIT is not affiliated with, and does not endorse, World University and School b) MIT does not offer credit to WUaS students, and c) All MIT OpenCourseWare materials are available for free through http://ocw.mit.edu"

- so WUaS isn't entirely a 'no-name' startup university, and there's also a gold mine or motherlode of courses to grow from here in MIT OCW's 5 languages as WUaS seeks highest achieving students online in all ~200 countries' main languages.

2
Information Technology -
Re beginning with ...
'You at World University' ...

MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School (which is like Wikipedia in 300 languages with MIT OCW in 5 languages), in donating itself to Wikidata for co-development and having received WUaS Miraheze MedIaWiki as a consequence, is seeking to make them interoperable for online matriculating WUaS students, in 200 countries, and for volunteer editors, open wiki teachers and learners (or 'Universitians' at WUaS), so for speakers in each of all 7,111 known living languages ... and then potentially a Person item # or Qitem# for 7.5 billion people, conceptually.

Additionally, WUaS is seeking to plan for, brainstorming-wise, coding for all 7.5 billion people for the following reasons:

All 7.5 billion people, each a Wikidata Q-item number for

i) wiki Universitians in 7,111 known living languages, and matriculated students in all ~200 countries,

ii) Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records, with genetic therapies, and for molecular tele robotic surgery, for ex.,

iii) Universal Basic Income (UBI) experiments (and to alleviate poverty), and to DISTRIBUTE a single cryptocurrency backed by some number of ~200 countries' central banks (where the Euro is in 19 out of 28 EU countries, and backed by their central banks in one way or another) ... and potentially with UBI experiment recipients able, for example, to mine the "Mine Pi" cryptocurrency (as a mineable single cryptocurrency), developed by Stanford graduates, by clicking on the 'lightning button' brainstorming-wise.

iv) a single family tree for genealogy research as in WikiTree (https://www.wikitree.com, and see too World Family Tree - https://www.geni.com/worldfamilytree), and for aggregating DNA samples too (see item 2 again).

In what ways could Wikdiata plan for all 7.5 billion people each a Wikidata Q-item # and for the above reasons and many more (and keeping in sync with Wikipedia's mission of "the sum of all human knowledge" where all 7.5 billion people generate this with their language, for example)?

3
Organizational structure for WUaS developments -

WUaS is two parallel legal entities, and re questions of ownership as well:

a
World Univ & Sch, a non profit 501 (c) 3 (in the US), and in California -

C3289561    WORLD UNIVERSITY AND SCHOOL

b
WUaS Corporation, a for profit general stock company (with named CEO Julian Dumitrascu)

C4018051    WUaS CORPORATION

... where both of these are planned in all ~200 countries' official languages, and in all 7111 known living languages (with machine translation too).

In addition to ...

i) Building on the WUaS Monthly Business Meeting organizational structure (see links to 2019 WUaS Minutes in Agenda)

ii) Seeking to move from writing as management style to Chief Operating Officer approach

iii) Seeking to code the WUaS web site - on A) Google platform in its ~100 languages with Translate, with B) best STEM CC-4 OpenCourseWare in its 5 languages, and in C) Wikidata's 300 languages, - and with licensing (BPPE) and accreditation (WASC senior?)

iv) seeking to develop financial processes in these regards

... WUaS seeks to create 2.2 million jobs in all ~200 countries and 7111 known living languages on both wings.

4
WUaS as startup will explore incubation by Schoolab SF International, a French entrepreneurial education innovation hub, further ...

See:
Rosa chinensis: Schoolab San Francisco International - and incubating World Univ & Sch? * * * The 'gold mine' or 'mother lode' of Creative Commons' 4 licensed MIT OpenCourseWare (in its 5 languages), where CC-4 licensing says users can, with MIT OCW, A) share it, B) adapt it, C) but non-commercially, WUaS cannot ask for tuition from students - so online WUaS will be free-to-students - but WUaS will seek reimbursement from governments (eg federal, state, local, etc) per student per year; this could extend to all 29 French speaking countries

5
WUaS seeks to begin now in 2020 with BPPE Licensing - https://twitter.com/CaBPPE (& possibly WASC senior Accreditation)

World Univ & Sch is seeking $5,000 to begin licensing with the state of California's BPPE (Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education) in January, and annual fees for this, and for accreditation too (potentially with WASC senior). WUaS is seeking to matriculate our 2nd online undergraduate class for free-to-students' CC-4 MIT OCW-centric Bachelor degrees (taking 4 years to complete) in the autumn of 2020, with online students from all ~200 countries first in English, - and has had to postpone this licensing process this year, once already, due to lack of funding.

6
Some WUaS highlights in this past year included

i)
BPPE licensing workshop on 2/20/2019 - but WUaS still need $5000 to begin the licensing process, now in 2020

ii)
Further developing in the Google Search / Google My Business / other Google platforms . . .

WUaS seeks to grow potentially online IB schools https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/WUaS_International_Baccalaureate_Diploma_and_Programme in Arabic @Csisc1994, English, French, Spanish+ & which are also MIT OCW High School-centric https://ocw-origin.odl.mit.edu/high-school/ & https://local.google.com/place?id=13580134555851014887&use=posts&lpsid=792871498435883844 (@WUaSPress Languages-World Univ: @sgkmacleod)

7
World University and School is developing a new academic methodology, Ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - and in facilitating co-creating a single realistic virtual earth - as related methodology ...

8
World Univ & Sch is developing actual-virtual, physical-digital methodologies in seeking to do research and, for example, further understand consciousness, - as potential developments in neuroscience / philosophy of mind / brain and cognitive science ...

WUaS seeks to explore this further too via:

Pixels & Qubits in a #RealisticVirtualEarthForAnthropology a #RealisticVirtualEarth a #RealisticVirtualEarthForSTEM? #FilmTo3D App into Google Street View w TIME SLIDER/Maps/Earth/TensorFlow/Translate & at cell/atomic levels wi group build-able SL #VR w avatar bots but realistic

And with ...
Language too ~ Pixels & Qubits in #RealisticVirtualEarthForAnthropology #RealisticVirtualEarth #RealisticVirtualEarthForLanguages? #FilmTo3D App > Google Street View w TIME SLIDER/Maps/Earth/TensorFlow/Translate & at cell/atomic levels w group build-able SL #VR w real avatar bots

We approved (in the manner of Friends/Quakers' monthly business meeting) the following in Annual Meeting:

World University and School will repeat same budget as last year.

World University and School will elect the same officers as last year.

WUaS Corporation / WUaS Press

Minutes for November 16, 2019, 2019
WUaS Corporation Annual Board Meeting

Present:
-       Larry Viehland (Acting WUaS Corporation Board Chair, and acting CFO)

-       Scott MacLeod (Acting President, acting CEO, Professor, Founder, Presiding Clerk +)

A
WUaS seeks to develop our online bookstores / computer stores / robotics' stores / hospital technologies' stores, with web site platform developments (see above) ... in ~200 countries and 7,111 living languages.

See too, 14 planned revenue streams - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html

This will occur both Actually-Virtually, and Physically-Digitally, and includes the on-the-ground "Big Box" stores' idea in all ~200 countries.

And these stores may carry food as well with time, to attract people to them. (World University and School academics, including medical schools with online teaching hospitals, still plan to be as much online and distributed as possible).

B
The WUaS Press's next book is due out soon -

tentatively titled -

"To the Dance or the Pools? ~ Virtually! How different it is to soak at Harbin Hot Springs, than to realize it in virtual reality"

C
The WUaS Press will now have published 4 books -
neither yet available in the WUaS online bookstore, nor yet with machine translation.

D
We approved (in the manner of Friends/Quakers' monthly business meeting) the following in Annual Meeting:

WUaS Corporation will repeat the same budget as last year.

And WUaS Corporation will elect the same officers as last year

Gohar Khan PhD in New Zealand asks the AoIR (Association of Internet Researchers' email list):

Greetings,

A student asked me to provide my opinion on the following questions.  Some
of these questions are easy to answer but others require independent
research inquiry (and data) to answer it.

I will appreciate your thoughts and possible responses to these questions,
if possible. Or perhaps share some articles which may have answered some of
your questions.

   1. What is the ‘definition’ of a viral trend?
   2. What qualities define a social media (viral) trend?
   3. How are social media trends usually started?
   4. How do social media trends become global trends?
   5. What social media platforms display most of these trends?
   6. How long do social media trends usually last for? Why?
   7. What causes a trend to lose popularity?
   8. What have been some of the most significant viral trends in the past
   decade?
   9. What were the more popular social media platforms in the beginning of
   the 2010’s?
   10. Are there any viral trends that have caused big changes socially,
either positively or negatively, in the past decade? If so, what trend was
it and what was the effect?
   11. What viral trends do you know of from the past decade?
   12. What are the current most popular social media platforms?

Thanks,
Gohar

Here's "Going Viral" in the ACM Digital Library - https://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=2601815 - and a book review about it -
https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/lsereviewofbooks/2014/06/09/book-review-going-viral-by-karine-nahon-and-jeff-hemsley/.

And here's "The World Made Meme" - https://mitpress.mit.edu/books/world-made-meme - and a book review about it - https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/51d7/8b688d48ae40e5c85f1b877573f9a26f36d8.pdf - too.

I find Milner's definition of meme helpful - “multimodal texts that facilitate participation by reappropriation, by balancing a fixed premise with novel expression” (p. 14) ( in the above book review, and with regard to the 'replicating cultural unit' idea in this 'meme' label in blog - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/meme).

Just searched on "Manuel Castells and virality" (am a Castellian in many ways with regards to the Information Age), and found:

"Castells emphasizes that the idea is, we’re not alone in the world. These movements are organized by anyone, they achieve Virality through the connection of the minds." ... from ...  https://civic.mit.edu/2014/02/20/manuel-castells-the-space-of-autonomy-cyberspace-and-urban-space-in-networked-social/ -

"Virality

Karine Nahon, in her recent book Going Viral (http://www.amazon.com/Going-Viral-Karine-Nahon/dp/0745671292) describes the constant process of virality in networked communication. In the movement context, anything you start in one place has the possibility of emerging in other locations. “Tunisia is the Solution” was a slogan across the Arab uprisings. The old slogan was “Islam is the solution.” In Syria people rose up saying “We’ll do it like in Egypt.” In Bahrain, the same: replicating. Castells emphasizes that the idea is, we’re not alone in the world. These movements are organized by anyone, they achieve Virality through the connection of the minds."

curled up with a good book

Hi Ma,

I curled up with a good book, after sitting in meditation this morning (enjoyably!) ...

'Communication Power' by Manuel Castells, it still is - the good book, that is

... and curled up with it under warm covers, departing from another often practiced process of getting to work on my computer (having sent out WUaS Annual Meeting Minutes yesterday - a kinda big job)

... on with writing my next book here . . . "To the Dance of the Pools? ~ Virtually! ... " ... and on the TV screen in my living room, which never shows any TV, but I rather keep viewing on it beautiful images from Google TV, both natural and urban ... and which make me wonder how far we are from Google making a realistic virtual Harbin Hot Springs, so that we all can make virtual Harbin, - and for virtual reality visiting ... (and then perhaps later with ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy! ... https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy ) :)

Love, Scott

Funnyman John Cleese (of Monty Python renown) again - https://twitter.com/JohnCleese/status/1197580125061238785?s=20 :

"With the appallingly low level of honesty in the UK election campaign, I think the only choice for me is to vote for the Greens

Unless David Attenborough decides to stand"

(Attenborough is a bit of an old hippy as well ... and a bit green too ... well, an old green man out of British depths of green-man culture :))

And I just did a switcho-change-o to the Green Party - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/10/nelumbo-nucifera-to-refract-to-make.html - (appreciating too its ecological platform, and that it's more of an international group than other US ones, not that it matters much in California) ...

Hi M,

From the WUaS Minutes, and in particular this Google link - https://local.google.com/place?id=13580134555851014887&use=posts&lpsid=792871498435883844 - I 'teleported' into Google Street View to Ridgecrest Road down the lane a bit from where I lived, and 'walked' in Google Street View 6/10ths of a mile almost to the post office, but couldn't turn right past the garden to go down the last tiny stretch due to the I.T. Then I searched in Street View on Canyon PO 94516, and 'teleported' there, and then walked all the way up 6/10 of a mile to where I live ... it's a bit of a mirage, since there aren't quite enough 'tiles' of photos to show me what I want, or what I look for, but cool nevertheless.
A report from journeying from home in Street View with time slider. (And while Street View said it was April 2019 throughout my 'walk,' my old Toyota Prius was in the driveway ... which made me think it was inaccurate, but could well after all be accurate).

You can make these journeys too - https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&pb=!1s0x808f880dea6bfff9%3A0xbc76546d8b81c2e7!3m1!7e115!4s%2Fmaps%2Fplace%2FWorld%2BUniversity%2B%2526%2BSchool%2F%4037.8345399%2C-122.1633653%2C3a%2C75y%2C228.03h%2C90t%2Fdata%3D*213m4*211e1*213m2*211sTI0JJ49hw2wBQ92y54FeUA*212e0*214m2*213m1*211s0x808f880dea6bfff9%3A0xbc76546d8b81c2e7%3Fsa%3DX!5sWorld%20University%20%26%20School%20-%20Google%20Search!15sCAQ&imagekey=!1e2!2sTI0JJ49hw2wBQ92y54FeUA&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjSpofx6v7lAhWUsZ4KHaW0DTMQpx8wE3oECAsQCw ... and by searching too in Street View on the Canyon Post Office 94516

And it will soon be possible to curl up with your smartphone in a Google cardboard viewer of virtual reality, and perhaps take these journeys without clicking a mousepad or similar ... so potentially with a brain wave headset built in ...  :)

... and maybe even 'walk through' the 1906 San Francisco earthquake as it's happening in Google Street View with TIME SLIDER / Maps / Earth - and for learning purposes as well :) ... or visit realistic virtual Harbin Hot Springs :)

Good morning, M,

What do you have ahead of you this weekend?

'Big box' university stores' idea and WUaS? Mentioned this big box idea in the WUaS Annual Meeting Minutes - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/11/arabian-sand-gazelle-minutes-for-annual.html?m=0 - and I think it would be great to learn from Ikea how to grow these, rather than from many of the others out there (e.g. W-M etc) - - on the physical side. Ikea is excellent, and also has much international, multilibgual, and multicultural experience; Swedes are high achievers in so many ways, commerce-wise esp.

On the virtual or digital side, - - perhaps learning from Google could make sense although they're not 'retailers,' like Ikea is with home furnishings. This would be for physical-digital bookstores, computer stores, robotics' stores, hospital technologies' distribution (surgery supplies etc) centers + ... re World Univ & Sch and its Med Sch's / teaching hospitals in 200 countries' languages. See too, 14 WUaS planned revenue streams - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html ...

Would like for WUaS to become a very creative coding university - like MIT or Stanford - and perhaps to organically develop this approach to Actual-Virtual, Physical-Digital big box university stores and with an academic press in all 7112 living languages !!! May involve creating a new language even!!

It would be great too if a realistic virtual Harbin Hot Springs could emerge in Google Street View with time slider as my "To the Dance or the Pools? ~ Virtuslly!..." book is published in the next few weeks, and for even visiting aspects of the poems :) ... to be seen ...

But maybe we can do it. Here's the idea:

https://twitter.com/scottmacleod/status/1198010439315050496?s=19 (with a photo) - Patch together pictures & videos of @HarbinBook POOL in #RealisticVirtualHarbin https://t.co/i6Sa6kcURf for LEARNING & SOAKING purposes? How best to add SUCH to 1 #RealisticVirtualEarth #RealisticVirtualEarthForGeology in Google Street View wi TIME SLIDER/Maps/Earth & Patch them? https://t.co/XooikTR4iS ...

Time to write some, interspersed by curling up with a good book :

Am enjoying poetry-wise Reedie (Reed College's) Gary Snyder's Tweets -

https://twitter.com/GarySnyderQuote/status/1197765929595232256?s=19

- as well as Nobel laureate Seamus Heaney's ...

https://twitter.com/HeaneyDaily/status/1193626002553004032?s=19 ...

What are you up to today, M?

L ove, Scott
